I was so happy to find this place!!! I had a medical appointment that went over because I unexpectedly needed X-rays, but I had an urgent meeting to get to and needed WiFi stat. Usually Starbucks can handle me but there was no indoor option and construction was underway, so I booked it across the street to Harbor Cafe in hopes they could help me - and they did!!! I was pleasantly surprised over their eggs with chorizo and I would take their coffee over Starbucks any day. The waitress made sure to refill it proactively when she saw how stressed I was, and even gave me a to-go mug with a military discount on the bill without me even having to ask. I love the murals all over, it made for a great nautical background for my meeting, the music was chill, and even the bathroom was fun! Everything always goes well! When we visit Oceanside, Harbor House is always our breakfast choice for the next morning. It was the marathon weekend and it was busy but we were seated and immediately taken care of within about 20 minutes. The food is quick and there are SO many choices. Their portions are also generous. We love it. The atmosphere is great. We typically see a lot of military folks enjoying their breakfast and they offer a small discount to them. First time trying Harbor House Cafe, and overall happy with our experience! The service was a bit slow , although we were seated right away which was nice. The coffees came half filled, presumably leaving space for cream, but I just drink it black. There were lots of good breakfast and lunch options to choose from on the menu, and prices are very reasonable. They also have monthly specials offered throughout the week. I got the Spanish omelette and it was pretty good! They offer both indoor and outdoor seating with a dog friendly patio as well. read more

Second time here. Again I didn't care very much for what I had, wouldn't order it again but somehow it was good enough that I will be back to try something else. This time I had the Cobb salad. Unfortunately it was very plain for a Cobb and I couldn't figure it out until I was half way through and realized they omitted the blue cheese which is a big part of a Cobb in my opinion. I got the combo plate with French toast, eggs, bacon, and sausage. The French toast was really good. Probably some of the better French toast I had in a while even. The bacon wasn't the best. This is one of those places that you can go to that has a variety of foods to choose from. On this day I came through with a group of 8 people. They do automatically add the gratuity on large parties. We held a meeting and stayed for 3 hrs out on the patio. The wait staff are really nice and we never feel rushed. Today I had the BLTA with onion rings. I loved the sandwich & the onions were good. I saw someone order the coffee cake and had to order one myself. It was so good (I highly recommend). The restrooms are clean and the restaurant has a large open seating area. We sat outside on the patio to not bother the other patrons. If you're in Oceanside you gotta try this place. read more

If you are looking for a local restaurant that serves delicious breakfast then you need to check out this location! This place is set up with a view towards the ocean with in and out door dinning. Place does get packed after church on Sundays but the service and food is worth the wait. I recommend to try everything because it was all delicious! We had such a great experience at this restaurant! My mom, grandma, and I stopped by for a meal. Everyone was so attentive and genuinely friendly--it made us feel very welcome. I ordered the BBQ pulled pork sandwich(amazing), my mom ordered the french dip (delicious) and my grandma ordered the steak and eggs. While everything else was delicious, the steak initially came out lacking flavor. When Diego stopped by to check on us, we let him know. He immediately took action, brought the plate back to the kitchen, and assured us they would fix it. Shortly after, Diego returned with a new plate, personally apologized, and the second steak was perfect--flavorful, juicy, and cooked just right. We really appreciated the effort and care they put into making things right. Great food, even better service. I haven't been here since 2004; all I remembered was that they used real fruit on their waffles and that was huge for me. Flash forward to last weekend; we had family out from Arizona and we wanted a casual, homey spot away from the super-busy, tourist attracting, gentrified parts of the coast. It wasn't busy at 10 am; we got seated quickly on the covered patio. I ordered the corned beef with home style potatoes and the coffee cake. Everything was fresh and of good quality. The corned beef came cooked with potatoes (read: less meat is served) but I would definitely order this dish again. A huge plus is the doggie bowls all over the patio- I can bring Cali with me and sit at the high-bar. I didn't notice a puppy menu but she can always eat beforehand. Service was just okay; one person didn't know the menu, our server was polite but inattentive (had to ask for drinks numerous times). The flies came en masse as soon as the food was dropped- I wish they had a better management system for them. Overall, this is one of the last hold-outs (I miss all the breakfast nooks near Coast Hwy- anyone remember BC/DC, Longboarder, etc) and I will happily support this small cafe. I wish there was a way to give this restaurant zero stars as it was likely the worst food I've ever tasted in my 50+ years. The only bright spot was my server who kept it 100% with me when asking questions about the menu... thus the 1-star rating. Food: 1. I ordered the homemade cinnamon roll. It was jam-packed with cinnamon, which I love. However, the entire roll is drowned in sugar icing. In fact, it is served in a bowl & the icing covers the entire bowl about halfway up the cinnamon roll. I think this item will turn a healthy person into a diabetic instantly. 2. On the recommendation of my server, I ordered the Carne Asada Chiliquites. My server said it was one of the only flavorful items on the menu. They said the beef is good (over the chicken) as it comes from their own butcher shop, so it's fresh. Now if you consider old beef jerky fresh, then this may be your get down. The beans at the bottom of the dish tasted like they were poured directly out of a can as you could taste a very salty metallic flavor. I actually got dizzy after taking a bite of the beans as I believe my blood pressure spiked as a result of the salt. The beans, sauce & carne asada were all inedible. My eggs were cooked as requested & the homemade salsa was decent. 3. My partner ordered the Big Rig breakfast consisting of 2 pork chops, eggs & potatoes. Mind you, the server told us that the cooks do NOT season the food, so everything is very bland. They referred to the restaurant as "Heaven's waiting room", explaining that their patrons are mostly elderly. The server recommended getting the country potatoes over the hash browns as they would contain peppers & onions. The server delivered the food with every hot sauce option available in the restaurant, without requesting it... knowing how bland it would be. The potatoes tasted boiled instead of grilled. The eggs were bland. But the pork chops were old. The chops tasted to be cooked several days earlier, refrigerated & then reheated. They were as hard as hockey pucks and lacked any flavor. The English muffin was just sliced open & served. It was not toasted & tasted doughy. The entire meal was inedible & the server was kind enough to take it off of the bill. Service: My server was honest & I appreciated that. The second they told me that the cooks don't season the food, I should have known better & left. They said that the cooks would, however ownership will not allow them to do so as they want to highlight the flavor of their meat from their butcher shop. If the meat was freshly cooked, it may have been slightly better, but my experience was they are using old food. This is a shame as it's a cute restaurant in a growing tourist area & with a smaller menu & better food, it could really do well. I suggest avoiding this restaurant at any cost. It's expensive & the food sucks! If you're looking for a similar menu, I hear Don's Country Kitchen a few miles down the road is pretty good. read more

Ordered at 1:30, lights were turned off at 1:45 (they close a 2) Luckily there are big windows to let in plenty of light but it sent a negative message. Like hurry up and get out, we close at 2 dammit. Had to ask for iced tea refills, although that's normal here depending on who's working. I've learned over the years to order the Eggs Florentine on an English muffin instead of the super hard French roll they serve it on. To order a side of tomatoes instead of potatoes since the potatoes are hit and miss. And of course to add Bacon. This will be my last visit here since we've moved to San Juan Capistrano and there's breakfast places in Dana Point that are better. But if you're in the area and need breakfast without a huge wait, this place fits the bill. read more

With decent ratings and in the area that this place is, I would've expected a lot better. I was strolling, appetite building all morning until I finally walked through these doors. Aesthetically the place was appealing but the food on the other hand? It took away my entire appetite. The vegetables were raw in the scramble I ordered, there was no seasoning and felt like it was thrown together by someone possessing a black heart. The cinnamon roll was a 4/10, below avg but not horrible. The other food was at most a 2/10. I can't believe this place is still open with the food culture present around the area. Service wise they were great and took the input we gave them, however I guarantee they won't apply it. My partner was working on the Pendleton base so we met here for lunch. It was not busy when we came and they have a dog friendly patio. The food was good and coffee was decent diner coffee. our server was expecting our needs before we could ask for things which was a wonderful change of pace in today's service industry. I only give 4 stars because I over analyze the cleanliness of restaurants due to my own anxieties and I feel this area could use a little bit of work.
