Huntington Beach also known as Surd City is what I would consider a traditional Southern California beach town especially if you're looking for a younger crowd. That being said, Huntington is a summer haven for both the Southern young and old. The Main Street offers shopping, bars and eateries. The newer Surf City mall is also a great place to enjoy a good meal and to watch the sunset from the steps.

For those who know me well I've been always been kinda in a South Bay bubble. (Hey, nothing wrong with loving my hometown and exploring it all it has to offer.) But Huntington Beach was one of the first cities I've ever really ventured out to. The drive down PCH can be long but it is always worth it. As soon as I see that Surf City USA sign, I get that feeling of beach side bliss. The ocean views plus the sun rays coming down bring So Cal vibes like no other. Whether it be walking down to the pier, walking around Main St or shopping at Pacific City, I've really come to appreciate this beach town. They've also got quite the foodie scene for foodies like me. From a hidden gem LSXO to cute coffee spots like 1 Oz Coffee; there is something for everyone. I appreciate all that this town has to offer and grateful for sunny summer outings and winter bliss evenings!

Huntington Beach is our reset button. My wife and I come here whenever we need to relax and honestly, the only downside is we don't live closer. Right by the pier, there are spots where you can set up a bonfire, throw down some blankets and beach chairs, and just exist for a while. No rush, no stress. Just quality time, whether it's just the two of us or hanging out with friends. Nighttime is especially nice. Way less chaotic, cooler air, and just peaceful vibes. Yes, it does get crowded during the day, especially weekends, but once the sun goes down, it's a whole different mood. Perfect for unwinding, talking, and enjoying the ocean sounds. Crowds fade. Stress fades. Ocean stays winning. Simple pleasures done right.

Surf City, USA! This is a nice beach with plenty to do. The pier is nice and there are lots of places to rent beach items, restaurants and shops. They were also having the annual Purina Dog Show and Surfing Competition this past weekend. Perfect place to sit back, relax and take it all in!

1045 am, Friday, September 5, 2025, I went to Lifeguard HQ to apply for a HB Parking pass. Plenty of parking at this time of day. There was a table set up outside with blank applications and pens. There was a sign that also said 1 occupant in the lobby at a time, something to that effect. Interesting... We're no longer in COVID protocol but it's posted on the entry. Good thing, I was the only one there at the time. Okay, I completed the application outside and had my required documents to receive my complimentary pass courtesy of Norm Reeves Honda Huntington Beach. Easy peasy, the documents were photocopied. I was handed the parking sticker and told a summary of what to do. Everything is explained in the paperwork included with the pass. The city clerk/lifeguard was very friendly. I was done in about ten minutes and out of there.

One of the beaches closest to home is a very special place for me, so I thought I would take a moment to write about it. I love this beach, especially during summer, when the sunsets are absolutely stunning. It's a great spot for letting the kids run free while I take a moment to center myself. However, it's always important to keep a close eye on the kids. The water can be shallow, and the waves can pull you in unexpectedly. We had a great time.

Huntington beach is well known as surf city, but it has a very nice collection of restaurants, shops, eateries, rental places along Main Street, which extends through the small town and then to the pier. My review is mostly of Main Street and the shops. The layout of the town is very nice, elegant, and has a charm to it. They have a few really well known places to visit like Duke's seafood restaurant, Jack's Surfboards (which is huge), the Sugar Shack cafe, Bruno's, and a very modern and cool looking Starbucks! They have surf rental and bicycle rentals shops, a badkin robbins, and even a rocky mountain chocolate shop. There are a lot of places to eat and shop at, and they have a nice beach as well. I recommend a day trip here, and some sunshine.

As many times as we been here we have never actually spent a day on the beach. Im always hesitant to go to a Cali beach -being from Hawaii, unfortunately I cant help to compare lol. This was our first time laying out and enjoying the beach. It was 4th of July and IT WAS BUSY! What made it extra busy and packed was the main street they closed down and they had a 4th of July parade. There is parking located right in front of beach along with street parking but because of the parade we had to park in one of the neighborhoods. Across the beach there are many shops and food spots to check out and walk around. There is also beach equipment rentals also. Considering how busy it was, we found a perfect spot not too far from shore and enjoyed the perfect weather. The pier wasn't too far from where we were. My boys enjoyed playing in the sand and running around in the water. It was cold but once you're in it isnt too bad. It aint the beach Im used to being from Hawaii but it was doable. We all enjoyed our day. Anyways definitely worth visiting when you need to cool off or just hang out on the beach. Would definitely come back and preferably not on a holiday.

Have been to Disneyland and this part of California but never been to this beach. This time got recommendation from my office colleague to decided to go and we were surprised with this place. Great vibe, clean beaches, plenty of shower and restroom areas, parking was nearby and was not expensive. Has plenty of restaurants as well nearby. This beach checks all the expectations from a beach needs. I would highly recommend this spot.

Bonfire and s'mores but the fire was so beautiful

A beautiful hot day to spend the day at the beach with our family friends. It was hot out so we needed something to do with the kids so we decided to meet here and do a bonfire. We road around a little, I used my electric scooter. We walked around a little on Main Street because they had a little surf fair thing going on with lots of vendors and food and snacks and music and bands. The kids got shaved ice, which was delicious baby girl got cotton candy and her friend got bubblegum and cotton candy. We watch the bands play a little bit. Got some chips and salsa somewhere. Road back to our car and then we set up a little bonfire. Brought blankets and food and snacks and lots of laughter and smiles. It was an amazing day at the beach with friends. It was nice to just sit out on our chairs and just watch the fire and make hot dogs and s'mores. It was such a beautiful night cool breeze and watch the beautiful sunset by the beach was the best it's been so long. There is a lot of other people doing bonfires too. I haven't done that in so many years, I hope we get to do that again. It was an awesome day at the beach! Have the most beautiful day, be kind to everyone :) Aloha

We've been going to Corgi Beach Day for a few years now, but this is the first year it was moved from the actual dog beach down closer to the pier where parking is more accessible and greatly appreciated. Actual bathrooms instead of porta potties are also an improvement, although the stalls are tight and the sinks outside don't have soap. The vendor stalls have a lot of cute merchandise, there's a few food trucks to choose from, and the main stage events are fun to watch, especially Fetch Fanatic and the costume contests. It's a great excuse to enjoy a beautiful sunny day on the beach.

Well known beach for surfing! When we visited, it was just about opening up for tournament for surfing and the beach was setting up for the big event!! The weather was perfect and great experience! Love the sun and beach as well as the ocean! :) cheers

Love downtown HB especially on the Fourth of July Everyone is in good spirits and neighborly and super friendly. The parade is always an enjoyable time.

Ask the Community - Huntington Beach

    Are dogs allowed?

There's a dog beach down Goldenwest and pch

How much is Parking now? Not the meter parking as we are trying to stay all day I heard $15 but that was a review back 4-5 years ago?

Yup still a flat $15/day at the lots but there are also parking meters at $1.50/hr for shorter stays. Credit cards accepted.

I need information about public street meters, days and hours. Got a ticket by parking on a public meter on 2nd street on Sunday, I was informed meters do not work on Sundays on Huntington Beach. I can't seem to find this information ANYWHERE. Tnx?

might need to go to city hall about that

Can you drink while having a bonfire here?

    No. It's a public beach.

Are you allowed to have bonfires?

Sure are. On busy weekends arrive early to claim one.

Are dogs allowed on the beach?

Dogs are not allowed on the beach. Just on cement areas and must be on a 6 foot or less leash l.

How early would one have to go in order to reserve a fire pit?

They are first come. So it would depend on the day of the week and time of year. I would say get there by 11am for your best chance.

With a nickname of surf City, is it safe to swim here or will you get run over by surfers? Specifically the beach in front of the Hilton? First time visitor, appreciate any info.

Yes it's safe to swim. There are lifeguards stations for safety. The surfers are on the other side of the pier.

Instead of volleyball games can we play badminton here? thanks in advance!

Yes, of course. The nets are open and public.

    Do they allow grills?

    Yes

Are the dog friendly areas near the bonfire pits?

No...the fire pits are close to the HB pier...but the dog beach is all the way north at Goldenwest

    Is it Handicapped accessibile?

Yes, handicap parking with connecting concrete side walks. There are sections where the concrete sidewalks turn towards the water and loops. It ends half way before the water but it makes it easier to settle on the sand.

    Dog friendly beach?

There's Huntington Dog Beach off Goldenwest St and Rosie's Dog Beach in Belmont Shore, Long Beach off Ocean Blvd.

Is it a good beach to go to on Spring Break? Will it be crowded?

    Yes it is

Moving to Huntington Beach from Sacramento area just wondering on how it's like living there? We are a young family of 3!

    10 times better than Sac

Is this a good beach to go to for 4th of July?

Definitely go early. We went there at 7am and by 9-10am the fire pits were pretty much all taken.

    Is it good for swimming?

Obviously, it doesn't compare to the shores or the warm waters of Maui, but it's just ok. Honestly, I would go to Crystal Cove in Newport Beach, it's nicer and less crowded. HB is really crowded with tons of teeny boppers, people constantly kicking…

Is there free parking? If so where. Thanks

Good luck, buddy. For all I know, you'd have to pay. Don't risk getting your car towed if you park in the residential areas. Just pay the toll and don't be (kuripot) cheap. LMAO
