It's a cozy restaurant with plenty of tables and seating. We were seated right away with no issues. I noticed their menu had a lot of other types of cuisines including Chinese and Japanese dishes. I ordered the bun rieu which came with plenty of herbs and veggies while my husband got the lo mein. The lo mein doesn't taste like traditional lo mein and has more of a vietnamese flavor to it. The soft shell crab appetizer had good flavor, though I wish the crab itself had a little more crunch (batter itself). It definitely hit the spot and we left with full bellies. read more

I've never had a bad meal here. They have a variety of cultures, Vietnamese, Chinese and the usual American Asian. Everything is good. We've been going here since they opened. Authentic flavors, great service, more than reasonable pricing - what more can you ask for? This trip I got the gio cuon (spring rolls) with peanut sauce, canh chua (sweet and hot tamarind soup) with shrimp plus the ca kho to (claypot fish). Lastly a dark vietnamese iced coffee. A simple Asian takeaway place, located between a vacuum store and a Spanish Christian bookstore. It has all the trappings of the classic Chinese/Vietnamese restaurant: various Asian wall art and Buddhas scattered throughout the restaurant, one man working in the kitchen, and a cheap/fast lunchtime options. I gave into its allure one day for lunch and was not disappointed. I opted for something Vietnamese over their traditional American-Chinese options, mainly for my craving for something lighter and fresher. I had the Bun Thit Nuong Cha Gio, which was a rice vermicelli noodle dish with broiled beef pieces and cut up portions of egg rolls on top of a bed of greens. It was a simple dish that hit the spot with simple flavors. The beef with a little tough, but I cannot be upset about it too much given the price and the time I went (lunchtime on a weekday). They take covid precautions very seriously which is much appreciated. They space diners out at the tables and wipe the tables down between diners. If you are ordering takeout, you go in and order at the counter, wait in your car, and they bring the food out to you. The chicken pho was delicious and served piping hot! The accompanying vegetables were the standard lime, bean sprouts, and basil. I had to take off one star for the fresh spring rolls. They are a bit bland as the only vegetable in them is lettuce (no herbs). This definitely needed some sriracha! This place is one of the only authentic Vietnamese places in Indianapolis. Highly recommend if you want good Vietnamese food in Indy. The prices are reasonable and the service is always friendly and quick. I got the Vietnamese Coffee which is a coffee drip with condensed milk and ice. Checked this place out the other day in search of a good bowl of pho, and they didn't disappoint. Within just a few moments of placing standard order at a Vietnamese restaurant (spring roll, beef pho) I was snacking on my appetizer. Super fast service by what I assume was the owner's children. My spring rolls were very comparable to those I've had at other places, but the sauce had more of a spicy kick versus a sweeter taste that I usually get. Bonus point. The pho was pretty good too.. again, comparable to those of other places, but it was cheaper here. Bottom line.. certainly a place worth checking out. I'm a bit underwhelmed and that may be because I didn't order the Pho. Everyone that I dined with today ordered the Pho and claim it's some of the best they've had - and they're all very well traveled. This small restaurant is tucked into a plaza off of Lafayette Road and definitely gives the vibes of a good, authentic restaurant. I had really high expectations and I think they just missed the mark. The place itself wasn't extremely clean, however, the service was very fast. I ordered the Vietnamese Egg Rolls and Shrimp Fried Rice for my visit today and both were just okay. I ended up giving away my leftovers. Probably unlikely that I'll return on my own, but if my coworkers venture back, I'll join and try out the pho. read more

Been to this place since they first open. Their Shrimp Egg Foo Yong sauce is the best in town. That is the only sauce I will eat and the egg is light and fluffy. They have the only unique tasting Sour Catfish Soup. Their fried Whole Fish with Ginger Sauce is another. Their Pork Chop is awesome. There are so many good dishes here. read more

Well, I thought I had posted this long ago but apparently I didn't. I'll correct that now and include an update. We use to visit Sizzling Wok in our monthly rotation. Then we kept encountering small issues with carryout, then with service, and next came the food. Many of the issues Mike mentioned were troubling for me as well during a few visits. Since it was sporadic we speculated it was a new or different chef. I, along with several others, mentioned the loud music in the dining room and regardless of the excuse the kitchen was noisy. Since the majority of my visits are take-out I overlooked it until I dined in again. After numerous complaints by many it appears to be resolved. Attitudes and service issues are still isolated which I reflect in the tip. The periodic oily food appears to be less frequent and usually with the beef. After reading Mike's review I realized I had been lucky with my selections until my recent order of Red Curry. The Red Curry was EXTREMELY oily and made it impossible to enjoy. Others dining on their different entrees had little problems and insisted I was overly sensitive. Either way, I didn't enjoy my entree. Now after a couple more visit the oil issue appears to be resolved. The family loves the Mongolian Beef with the spices and generous amount of tender beef. Excess oil hasn't been an issue with the beef and egg rolls. Per my son, the pork chops and meat loaf are delicious and tender. We decided to give Sizzling Wok another chance today when I remembered the restaurant we were going to order from was closed on Tuesdays. Today's carryout lunch of Shrimp Spring Rolls, Crab Ragoon, Egg Drop Soup and Combination Fried Rice was yet another disappointment. We were told 20 minutes for pick up and when we arrived we had to wait an additional 25 minutes. Then they were out of sauces for the egg rolls. How can you be out?? When we arrived home the Combination Fried Rice and Crab Ragoon was terrific and flavorful. The 4 Shrimp Egg Rolls were overcooked with a tini amount of filling to the point a couple bites were shell only. My husband's comment was they were worthless. The Egg Drop Soup was white, thick and pasty. I've never seen solid white Egg Drop Soup and the flavor was very unappetizing. I'm not sure I want to try Sizzling Wok again for sometime. There are several other restaurants within a mile of Sizzling Wok that were good in the past. I'll try them next time our favorite Vietnamese restaurant is closed. Hopefully, they'll correct their issues and return to a restaurant we can depend on. read more

2 years ago I used to work in the area. I would come here at least once a week, two times in the winter. I was obsessed with their Pho. It was such a good deal too. I live 45 minutes away sadly, but my husband was in that area today. So I asked him if he could pick me some up since I had been craving it all winter. While here, the beeb and I worked our way through for dishes. Beef spring rolls: beef was grilled, accompanied by a tangy vinegar sauce. I could've ate 4 of them and called it a meal. Crab ragoon: nothing special. Fried and I could actually see bits of the imitation crab, which is nice Pork combination plate: beeb enjoyed the minced pork best while my mouthful of the pork chop was decent.
