I've been here a few times for weekday lunch and they always hit the spot. The staff are always friendly and speedy with service. There's a decent number of tables and they also have a large volume of takeout orders. For the recent visit, our group of four arrived just before noon. The food came quickly for our party. The combination pho was delicious and came with a good mix of meats and flavorful broth. The pork and shrimp summer rolls were decent size and came three to an order, cut in half. There didn't appear to be an option to get it without pork though (unless you get only tofu). I've previously also gotten the bahn mi and rice vermicelli. All options were good. I was super skeptical but decided to give it a try since my dad assured me this establishment has never gotten him sick and it tastes good. Thankfully, he was right! I absolutely love peanut sauce whenever I make beef & rice wraps at home so I was glad Huong Tra was able to bring that out to me! Strictly a review on the banh mi. Picked up a banh mi for lunch on a weekday since I was passing through the area. The bread was surprisingly soft, not crunchy like other banh mis that I've had. They also had the three bean che dessert on their online menu and when I got there to order they said they didn't have it, which was a bit of a bummer because that was the one thing I was really craving. I'm surprised I've never written a review before. I have been coming here regularly for 7 or 8 years. The food has always been outstanding. I really love their Vietnamese Crispy Pork & Shrimp Pancake, and many of the dishes with Grilled Pork. These days, I usually end up getting the same dish every time: #78 (Stir Fried Shrimp w. Vegetables, Bell Pepper & Jalapeño over White Rice) with extra chicken. It's really delicious. And each time, I'm blown away by the quantity. The photo shows my leftovers! One full meal there, at least. Another thing I love to do is take home a container of just grilled pork. Then I use it to complement my meals at home for a few days. You must try the dark hot sauce that sits at the table in one of the white containers. It's not very spicy but has a wonderful flavor. Goes well with anything you order. The service is always great too. Everyone is really warm and friendly. 3.5/5 It was only after we ate here and noticed a hair in one of the dishes that we saw they passed the most recent health inspection with some major violations. Nonetheless, once we ignored the hair the rest of the meal was pretty tasty! The portion size was great and everything was fresh and warm. We picked up our food since this was still during the pandemic, so I'm not sure what the inside is like. The price was fair and the location is convenient if you're passing through El Cerrito. As a heads up, you can also request a vegetarian alternative. And at $4.95 you can't beat that. I enjoyed their chow fun. Flavorful and a nice portion with plenty of meat. I have been eating here for probably 15 years. Get the lemongrass chicken with garlic rice. It's absolutely delicious, fantastic and so flavorful. The meat quality is always hella high and the seasoning and sauce are perfect. I also recommend their imperial rolls and strawberry shakes, it's good for eat in or take out, the service is friendly and fantastic and the prices are amazing. I take everyone I can here and then they turn their friends on to it to because it is SO good. I wish I still lived closer but every time I go to the Costco out there I come in and it's impeccable. I've tried a bunch of their dishes and I think they are all tasty. The banh xeo is huge. My bf really loves their bun bo hue. I just change it up every time I come here. One thing I didn't care too much for was their spring rolls. Other than that, this is our go to spot for bun bo hue. Downfall for not dining in is not being able to use their hot oil. I had to call several times to get through and place my order waited in a line that was out the door. My food was ready by the time I got in and up to the counter.
