Worst customer service ever. I will only ever eat here if it's take out. The waitresses are some of the worst I've ever seen. My fiancé and I came the other night and asked to sit outside. The hostess told us to just pick a table and a waitress would be with us soon, 20 minutes later and still no waitress. I believe the waitress was actively avoiding us because whenever we made eye contact, she would go the opposite direction. Boy was I wrong about a few things when I tried this place's inside. It was just too easy. I remember mentioning in my last review how there was no real parking, however, when I really looked around, I found their legal parking around the outside of the location, with 10-minute spots right directly next to their door (apparently solely for to-go and delivery driver order pickup). But things felt warmer when I got inside the door. I was greeted, by not just one or two servers, but by four employees. After they all figured out who was going to take and seat me (after I told them it would only be me), they promptly asked if I wanted a table inside or outside. I knew the pollen was heavy, but had mentioned that any space was good. They picked a spot right there by the door - inside. And although they brought over extra menus, when they saw other menus on the table, they seated me and walked away. I would have had the beverage portion of the order ready, had they have stayed put a second. But that's okay. After studying the double-sided cardboard menu, it took a few extra moments for a waiter to come over and take my order- I asked a question and they promptly answered. I gave my choice, and since I already had my menu choice in mind, (the same burger as the last time, this time with cheese for a few coins extra), I gave my order to them. I didn't remember that you had to pick a side and there was no mention on the menu that the burger came with a side - but whatever. Thankful the waitress asked. It took many minutes to make my rather simple order and bring it to the table. While waiting, I looked around and spotted some outdoor seating there by the business window looking at the bar (something I had not seen before). I spotted the trophies and lanterns on the windowsill and thought "how neat". They brought the food, and I began to ate. It was definitely prepared to order, although a few (2-3) fries did taste a tiny bit underdone (with one edge seeming barely cooked at the edge, which I ripped off and placed to the side). That actually made it more palatable. Also, a little bit of salt might have made it better (something I added by the salt shakers nearby) tasting. I liked how they put it in former alcohol bottles that were cleared and dried. After I got most of the way done with both the burger and some of the fries, the manager came through and asked me about the food, and even asked about their choice of server. But then again, I couldn't tell his name (he had no name tag at first look). I yessed him to not have to deal with his survey about the order, and he left me at the table - thank god. I finished the fries, and being an Uber driver, watched as the employees started gathering near my table, waiting for the last fry to enter my mouth and drink (Sierra Mist) get sipped to the bottom. Not seconds later, they came and took away the plates (they are totally up on cleanliness here). I asked for my "bill" and after the nearest employee had it printed out and stuffed it in the tin, brought it over. I looked at the bill (after estimating the cost), placed my card inside. The transaction went well- although I ended up giving the bar employee the tin with the signed receipt and even a cash tip which I made mention of (I rarely do give cash tips, let alone tips at any restaurant.) It just felt natural to do it, although the dollar was double the estimate of the tip estimate on the bill itself. Although this was rather something different for a change of pace, perhaps it would have been more appealing if the door from the outside would have been closed- you let in lots of pollen and you could seen pollen running rampant all over the restaurant, and on top the big open window at or near the bar; that let even more pollen in from there too. Please change some of your policy during high pollen count days of mid-to-late spring (May/June) because you were lucky I didn't get sick from all this pollen floating around - getting up my nose and whatnot. I know a lot of people complain about allergies, but this place really didn't do it. read more

This place is my favorite in nice weather because they have outdoor seating. The outside area is made to look like a little beach. Very cute. Great location too - right on Raymond ave. Hurricanes is the perfect spot if you're looking for affordable, super casual and fairly quick. Beer selections are always up to par. The menu has wings - of course - with a large variety of sauces to go on them. You can also choose the sauces for your chicken dishes. I usually get a salad and have no complaints. It seems like every time we come here there's problem with either service or the food itself. Well after 6 months we decided to come back for some wings and wouldn't you know it hasn't changed. So after we waited 20 minutes for appetizers to t finally came. Less then 5 minutes later our food came out which is fine until we began to eat. Food look good but as I took a bite it was cold and under cooked. Told our waiter the problem and he doesn't have any answer, he walked away and brought back the manager. I was looking for something cute to do with my friends being that it was one of their birthday. This is the worst of the worst! So in order to order a drink you have to order a meal... ok once I order my appetizer and my drink I will order my meal. The waitress had no clue what was going on and disappeared for about 30mins. I've only been here for some light fare and drinks, but the beer is cheap ($3-5 for bud to craft), the servers are friendly and attentive, and the 'pub grub' is standard (obviously wings, dip, etc.). This is a great place for watching sports (huge tvs), meeting with large groups (seating and space easily accommodates more than 10), and not being cramped in a standing bar in other parts of town. I came to this restaurant with a group to celebrate my brother's and his friends' graduation from Vassar College. We were greeted upon entry. The staff was friendly throughout our time there. One of my brothers noticed the tables were dirty / sticky before we sat down and he advised me to check my chairs. That can be discouraging when I "dressed up" for the occasion. Even though there was a large group, our order was taken within 10 minutes of our arrival and we received our food about 15 minutes after that. I thought that was reasonable, given the quantity of people in our group. The food was decent but we all felt our portions were small compared to other restaurants we patronized. I currently attend a college in the Poughkeepsie area near Hurricane Grill & Wings. Sometimes the dining hall closes before students are let out of their night classes. Unfortunately, us students are still in need of dinner. Personally, I resort to UberEats, as most students do not have cars or kitchens on campus. Knowing classmates of mine are somewhat enthusiasts of Hurricane, I decided to play it safe and order a meal of chicken tenders and french fries. Through the app, the delivery time was about a half hour. Aside from the app fees, the actual meal was not a fortune; However, I am slightly dissatisfied with what I received. The meal was not bad, but it was satisfactory. The tenders came crispy, and my desired sauce, BBQ, tagged along. Near-Perfect. The problem that occurred was with the Natural-Cut French Fries. For the amount of money paid through UberEats and to this restaurant, one would expect that the container is filled. Most college students do not have extra money to be paying for meals through UberEats, but if an individual happens to order, they should not be ripped-off! I asked for my fries crispy, and not only did they come un-crisped, but the container was practically empty! That just is not nice. Shame on Hurricane. For the out-of-pocket price that a struggling college student has to shell out for a meal of chicken nuggets and french fries, you would expect that a restaurant has standards. Small portions, for a pretty hefty price to pay and a long wait. Maybe next time I'll try McDonalds and get a better meal with a bang for my buck. read more

Three of us ordered the Seared Ahi Tuna Salad which was outstanding. The other 5 orders were generally okay. The beer selection included a good mix of local brews. I ordered the 10 piece bone-in wings: 5 were ancho lime and the other 5 were gold rush (honey mustard with a spicy kick). After eating 2 wings of each flavor, everything tasted homogenous. The texture of the meat was also weird... there were hard chewy protrusions in the meat. I've eaten at the restaurant a few times before and I have enjoyed the food . It's a bit on the pricier side when it comes to the wings but still tasty never the less . Unfortunately my low review stems from the the experience I had today with ordering delivery . I ordered a fajita bowl and 5 bone in wings with fire and ice sauce and blue cheese dressing . The food came on time . I used cash to pay and the delivery guy did not have any cash on him to give me my change! So he had to leave and come back in order to give me my change . The guy was very nice so nothing negative to say about him but if someone orders delivery and they are paying cash ( when I placed the order it was indicated I was paying cash) I would think that the delivery guy would have cash on him to make change ??? Anyways my food was the most disappointing thing . Everything was cold! ( I only live about 5-8 minutes away). the fajita bowl was in a flat to go container that was lined with paper so everything in the fajita bowl made this paper soggy and now I had soggy paper mixed in with my food . Instead of them putting the sour cream and guacamole in a small condiment container they just plopped it on the side of the food which cause the paper underneath to get even more soggy . My wings were dry and overcooked . Very little sauce on the wings . And they didn't not give me blue cheese dressing. Spent almost 30$ on lunch and barely ate a thing . Hurricane has improved in the time that it's been open, from then to now everything from the food to the service has gotten better. During the warmer months it is nice to sit outside on the patio and enjoy a beer with some friends, during the cold months I wish that they had some sort of propane fire pit or propane torch so I could still enjoy sitting outside when the weather isn't freezing. You can't go wrong with any of the wings, and the burgers are actually a pretty decent size. One of the things i expect from a place like this is a longer beer list that includes more local or statewide beers. read more

We sat outside a few times on a sunny day and when we remarked to the waitress about the blinding sun, she offered to set up an umbrella at our table. Customer service was great. I usually order to-go and that food always comes out quickly and tasty. I did make the mistake of ordering a dressing I'd never had and ended up with a bad salad, but that was on me. Overpriced, terrible food! There is an assumption of stupidity on the part of the management if they think customers wouldn't notice that paying $9 for a 2-for-1 beer isn't really 2-for-1. I've been about three times, every time the food has resembled something that came straight from the freezer into the fryer or microwave. Stay away from the garlic french fry upgrade unless you like your french fries tossed in margarine. If you like places like Applebee's, maybe this would be your scene, if you don't mind an even higher price point. Right off the bat the service by all staff members is above and beyond spectacular and they have tons of TVs for sports events, but we didn't come to eat the staff or TVs, we came for a good time and eat, what we heard was good food--which is mediocre at best, but that's what you get when you choose to eat at a chain. We got nickel and dimed for every extra thing we asked for (without them telling us there's an extra charge). The wings are decent, but they give you a weak serving of blue cheese and every "extra" blue cheese is a la carte--which is lame. The 2-for-1 drink special isn't a deal at all. They force you to buy two of the same drink (one at a time) and those drinks range from $8-$13 so you're basically paying for two drinks (where's the "deal" in that?) Overall, it's a new place, so everyone's trying it out, but if they don't remedy the "nickel and dime policy", I can't imagine it'll last very long. Went there last night for dinner. Yes, it was Sunday, but not busy for 6pm. The Hostess was on the telephone when we arrived and had to call for a waiter to seat us when our negative body language became apparent. Our waitress was very friendly and took our drink and meal orders post-haste. Ten minutes later, our drinks arrived (water and Diet Coke). After another 15 minutes, (an eternity when you're starving), our wings showed up. They were obviously sitting in the kitchen for awhile because they were warm, not hot. Nevertheless, they were very tasty. We ordered the Philly steak sandwich and the beef sliders for our entrees. Twenty-five minutes later, THEY arrived. I will give the waitress credit, however. She kept telling us the food will be arriving in "just a minute". I just wish they were Earth minutes and not Saturn minutes. Although the rest room was clean, there was no soap in the receptacle. I thought things like that were checked on a regular basis. Yuck! I'm sure air-born pathogens run rampant through that place. Our entrees arrived and the Philly cheese steak sandwich had an enormous piece of gristle on it, making it impossible to eat and the slider consisted of a swedish meatball (yes, it was round) on a bun. The cole slaw was flavorless and watery while the kettle chips were hard enough to break teeth. After dinner was over, the waitress came over and handed us the check without asking us for a dessert, stating "This is for your convenience". I was there last year when they had just opened and had a similar experience. I thought after some time had gone by, things would improve. They hadn't. I don't hate Hurricane, but I don't love it either. The set up is great. The place first opened smack dab in the middle of summer, and the patio was/is a great place to be. Even inside you feel the summer breeze wafting through the open windowed bar and various doors held open to bring in the sunshine. It makes you forget that you live in Poughkeepsie, which is ALWAYS a bonus. The drinks are great, I can't deny that. Most of the food is OK, nothing to die for though. I primarily enjoy their salads, which was surprising, and the wing sauces are excellent. But here is the problem... The service is TERRIBLE. Having said that, I feel like I should mention the fact that I have been there over ten (10) times, and I feel like I have a pretty good sense of the wait staff by now. The only reason that I continued to go back there was because of the patio, the fact that they used to have BOGO drinks and that it was walking distance from my apartment for quite a while. Now there are no more BOGO drinks and I moved out of Poughkeepsie. Even though I am still local, I don't expect that I will be back at hurricane until the Summer months. The service was OK, waitress wasn't given much of an order (there were only two of us) and the requested water wasn't brought out. Should water not be a standard part of NY dining experience, without having to ask? Food was pretty much terrible. It looked like frozen dinner. The broccoli only comes with a butter/parm sauce, presumably because it's pre prepared, so it's insanely salty and immeasurably over seasoned. The Coco Loco hot sauce was third from the top on the heat index for their hot sauces, and it was sweet like a pitcher of summer iced tea. The setting is cool on a nice summer night. Makeshift beach, tiki torches, island music.. But that's all they have going for them. If I realised the food was going to be this horrible I wouldn't have gone. Of course, I knew just by looking at their Disney coloured menus chock full of stock photos of food they didn't cook it was gonna suck, and I still ordered. Fool me once, shame on me. Maybe more like 2.5 stars. Apparently this is a chain, so the food experience is distinctly in the Chili's/Applebee's/et al vein. Deep fried wings coated in your choice of roughly a gazillion different sauces. On the pro side, the wings are big and meaty. On the con side, they are decidedly forgettable flavor-wise. Also, they get you for about $1/wing. We also had some fried pickles that weren't the worst I've ever had, but pretty unexciting. The 2-for-1 drink deals are reasonably decent, although they (obviously) jack up the prices to make it work. Order two beers of the same stripe and you'll do just fine -- $8 for two microbrews is pretty competitively priced. Service is super friendly and quick, if you like that kind of thing. Maybe a little too "Tchotchky"-like, but that's just how it goes to one of these places where the servers are your new best friend the minute you walk in the door.
