As dive bars go, this one rocks! Right next to where we had a fun kayak adventure lies this hidden gem. Great bar that is open, outside and in the middle of a mangrove thicket, thus the name Hurricane Hole. We grabbed a seat and ordered some fresh shrimp and fries. These bad boys were served piping hot and so damn delicious. To accompany this delightful snack was a refreshing and cool Rum Punch. Great views, friendly people, super service and fresh food. To start, I'll say that I came from paddleboarding over 2 hours away from another part of the island through the mangroves. I had no idea where we were going. It was an awesome aimless route. When we came to a point, my friends were talking about going to Hurricane Hole and I honestly thought it was a natural alcove or some place we might post up on the paddleboards in the water. To my surprise, we arrived to a cool restaurant with places to stash the boards, cold drinks, good service, and some tasty island food. It's all outside on a deck over the water and has generous shade coverage with screen awnings. The bar was busy, but there were still plenty of tables, so we grabbed one and hung out in our swimsuits and snacked until our ride came to take us back. I tried the conch fritters and a mojito, and friends ordered some other yummy dishes and drinks. The conch fritters were large and filling and looked a lot like hushpuppies. They came out fresh with two creamy sauces on the side, one spicy, and a milder key lime sauce. The mojito had tons of fresh mint, as all the best mojitos should. The portions were generous overall. It was also fun to watch the boats across the water on the docks feed the fish! I saw some jellies and some other schools of teeny iridescent blue fish, a barracuda, bull shark, and some others. Someone else eating told me we had just missed a manatee. I'd definitely love to come back to this spot any time I visit Key West! read more

My husband picked this place and I thought he picked a dive. It's seat yourself and it took a few minutes to get waited on but we can NYE at dinnertime. So understandably busy. The atmosphere is great for Key West, right on the water you can watch the fish, the pelicans fly around. My burger was OK. I had half of it. Too much food, but it also has so much cheese on it that you could not eat it as a sandwich I had to break it down. The fries were OK and that's all you get. For $20 it's not bad, especially for down here. If you're visiting Key West, this is a neat place to stop in and check out. read more

Next door to my paddling rental place of choice- beautiful location on the water in Hurricane Hole. We were very pleasantly surprised by the tasty food, good beer selection and quick service. Be forewarned: each dish easily feeds two people with a good appetite! We had the chicken nachos appetizer and gave up with leftovers for at least one other person. Hubby enjoyed the jambalaya and we could have split this - same comment about my shrimp poboy. I normally don't comment on portion size but I was impressed that this restaurant offers tasty homemade food IN a huge portion size. Usually you only get one or the other! We will be back. Got there late. No problem. Seated ourselves. Waiter came over and explained the specials. He raved about the spicy corn tortilla soup. I had to try it and it was good ! So hot ! Loved it. Had bbq wings and conch fritter. The bbq sauce was delicious. The conch fritters were ok. The catch of the day tacos were fantastic. Pub burger perfect, the jambalaya was very very good ! Added some hot sauce to kick it up a notch. But 1 complaint amount all of us was the lame French fri's. Totally disappointing. However the key lime pie made up for it !! read more

Cute place by the marina. Manatees and sharks swim along and if you're lucky enough you can spot them! Lots of seating, and fresh catch was Mahi Mahi, super good! The Mahi bites and conch balls were great, but that aioli it's served with was so flavorful! The jambalaya was perfectly spiced and had lots of protein. After the mangrove kayaking with Lazy Dog, we ate an early dinner at a table outdoors partially shaded. The the area is clean and the restrooms were awesome. O had a mojito with tons of lime and it was on point, while my hubby had an orange cooler type drink. Both of us had burgers with fries. My pub burger had caramelized onions and a queso type cheese cooked medium while my husband had a regular burger well done. Service was fast and everything was delicious. After being on the water for a couple of hours, the salted fries were especially tasty. Our waitperson, Christina, was very accommodating- I had trouble ordering an Uber due to connectivity and she helped us out by letting us use her hotspot. I cannot say enough about this- what an awesome employee. The rest of the staff looked happy with their jobs as well- always a plus when people enjoy their jobs! read more

I hate to leave a review like this, but here it goes... DO NOT COME TO THIS ESTABLISHMENT IF YOU ARE A PERSON OF COLOR!!!! As bold of a statement as it may be, it is nothing but the truth... I came here with my family (party of 5) and my 1 year old son, and it appeared to be a cool looking and relaxed place. At first, we sat down and ordered waters. 20 minutes goes by, and we were not only NOT served, but a group of 10 came in (caucasians) and their entire group was served waters before us. Like really? Afterward, their cocktails were served before us, their food was served before us, and they were waited on hand and foot the entire time, but it was like we didn't exist... It was so apparent and obvious that this establishment caters to and serves the white crowd above all else... As far as the food, it was OK. The Mahi Mahi that was the fresh catch of the day was good, coleslaw was really good, but nothing to rave about. While we were looking for ceviche, we stumbled into this delicious, waterside eatery. Honestly, we've now been in the area for a couple of days, we've been to some of the top rated restaurants on the island, but none have hit our tongues the way HH has. We ordered the Catch Tacos (Snapper), House Salad w/grilled chicken and the Shrimp Basket. There wasn't any ceviche on the menu that we recall seeing...and it really worked out in our favor. Nice place for lunch, outdoor seating right on the marina. Good food, reasonable prices, friendly staff. My wife and I ordered the Catch of the day Reuben sandwich with a side of Caesar salad. They served the fish grilled upon request. We also ordered the Mexico bowl which was a salad with rice, beans, salsa with a blackened white fish. Everything was delicious. The only thing we didnt care for was the deep fried pickles which my wife has always wanted to try. They were interesting but just not our thing. So I was driving through to key west and started looking for lunch. Wow!!! What a great surprise this place was. It's hidden behind a marina a little dry dock, but it's super easy to find Right off of hwy 1. I sat out on the deck and got to see giant tarpon and pelicans and tales of a family of manatees, but o did t get to see them! They have incredible seafood! Pink key west shrimp for apps and a perfectly made yellow tail snapper blackened with Caribbean beans and rice! It was so fresh all of it! The fish was seasoned perfect, enough for flavor but you could still taste the fresh fish! Great place, great staff and a great beer selection too! One of their off duty employees who was obviously drunk attacked a tour operator verbally and physically after yelling at him how his clients didn't tip well. That was my fun afternoon there today. STAY AWAY FROM BAD PLACE. The employees unwontedly touch you over and over again here. I talked to the manager and the manager didn't care whatsoever, and on top of that they don't honor the discounts from the excursions like the Key West water tours. I liked this spot a lot. It was a laid back feel and casual. Our waiter was friendly but not over attentive. I liked the mussels a lot and the fish tacos were great. I'm from Texas and love spicy. I got a few great hints of heat that even impressed this Texan. I thought the rice and beans looked very generic so asked to substitute for chips and salsa but was told that would be an additional appetizer charge so opted not to. We're in KW ALL the time - the wife and I both love the atmosphere. During a motorcycle ride around the country, KW was an obvious place to spend a few extra days to smoke a few cigars, enjoy people watching and a few libations, and continue my search for an excellent cracked conch. A friend who grew up in KW recommended we try Hurricane Joe's at Hurricane Hole - she remembered it having a very solid cracked conch. I've driven by Hurricane Hole MANY times (it's right off Hwy 1 right before it turns in KW), but have never stopped. VERY poor decision making, it turns out. We headed over late in the day, and discovered HUGE Happy Hour discounts...score!!! After checking out the menu, I found the elusive cracked conch...and the wife (being a woman) found a salad (sigh). But, to her credit, it sounded pretty good....blackened shrimp Cobb salad. We placed our orders and I wandered around checking out the place, taking a few pics...DEFINITELY a locals hangout...always a good thing. I came back to the table just as our food arrived - and glory hallelujah.....a most excellent cracked conch!!!! The wife enjoyed her salad, but I assure you, not as much as I enjoyed the conch....AWESOMENESS. Totally rolled the dice on this one, and it paid off. After spending nearly the whole day on Key West, my wife, 2 teenage kids, my in laws and myself needed somewhere to eat before the one hour drive back to Marathon. Place was busy but not so much so. We were able to snag a table right by the water. Menu is typical pub grub, but done very well. Got conch fritters and fired pickles for apps. First time having conch so I had no reference. They were good as were the pickles. 4 of us got the fish and chips (catch of the day was snapper). Best fish fry I've had in awhile. You can tell the keep their dryers clean because each item tasted like it should rather than generic fried stuff. Wife had Cigar City Jai Alai on draft. I had Green Bench Sunshine City IPA in a can. Tasted fresh. Great place for anyone spending the day on KW but staying on the other keys. read more

I'm so confused... Hurricane Joe's at Hurricane Hole is apparently no longer referred to as Hurricane Joe's, just Hurricane Hole. There's plenty of parking right off the marina and boat storage area and just a short walk to the restaurant. There seem to be two options based on the sign - upstairs dining and sports bar and outside dining on the water downstairs. It was a little cooler so I chose upstairs. It's pretty much seat yourself and was fairly quiet with about four tables. The server brought me a menu and got me a drink. She wasn't very chatty or warm and at one point when she brought my food it felt like she was shoving it at me and leaving. I'm a bit of a conch fritter junky and get them any place that has them; especially when I'm in the keys. I decided on their "Best Ever" Conch Fritters ($10.95) a secret recipe made famous by their sister restaurant on Duval Street, "The Conch Shack". Enjoy a half dozen, served with Key Lime aioli and spicy Bahamian Pink sauce. I also had a bowl if Conch Chowder ($5.95) and a House Salad with blue cheese dressing ($8.95). The fritters were big and light and fluffy, crispy on the outside and moist inside with tons of flavor and plenty of chopped conch; both sauces were really flavorful and a nice contrast. These may have been the best fritters I've had. The chowder was a big bowl served with crackers; it was a slightly spicy tomato based soup with lots of vegetables and pieces of conch. Really well made, fresh and lots of flavor. The House Salad was HUGE, a big bowl of mixed greens, shredded carrots, chunks of tomato and cucumber with homemade croutons. I was actually so full from the fritters and soup that I took the salad back to my hotel. The biggest surprise of the meal ended up being the blue cheese dressing; it was REALLY GOOD. I guess I've come to expect mediocre dressing at a lot of places, this was creamy and rich with big chunks of blue cheese in it. The server warmed us a lite toward the end of the meal, the food was really good and a good value... lots of really fresh local choices and I heard raves from repeat customers. As I was leaving two gentlemen came in with a plastic bag of fresh caught fish which they had weighed and the chef was going to prepare it for them. It's worth the trip! read more

Was excited to eat here after reading all the previous reviews, so I took my wife and in-laws for dinner. And boy were we all severely disappointed. Service was either non-existent, slow, or error-prone. Food was either soggy (fries), weird (ceviche with saltines? WTF?), or flat out inedible (do NOT order the conch sandwich). Considering how long it took to even get our food, we all attempted to make the best of what was served, but in the end we had to talk with the manager after I attempted to send back the conch sandwich and the server started giving me lip. Fortunately, the manager did his best to appease everyone. But, seems to me, working at a place that serves such terrible food leaves the manager with one arm tied behind his back, and standing on one leg. While blind (servers were telling him everything was going well when in actuality we were waiting forever to get attention and correct drinks). Do yourself, and your family, a favor and skip this joint. Plenty of decent food options on the island. Unfortunately, this isn't one. read more

Was looking forward to coming here. Then, a piece of something non-food was in my fries, and I think I cracked my tooth. I told the waiter, and he came back out saying the manager said it was an overdone fry. Then, I had the opportunity to meet the bully manager, Joanna, who did not care and argued with me, insisting it was an overdone fry and kept escalating. She grabbed my plate as I was eating the shrimp and said if i don't want to pay for it, I can't have it! I never said a thing about not paying!!! I have never seen a manager act so poorly.
