Painkiller
Danielle J.

Casual restaurant and we went for happy hour. The server was great and everyone was friendly. The restaurant wasn't dirty. We went for happy hour. I didn't taste a lot of alcohol in the painkiller, but it was delicious! I did feel the three I drank! At happy hour you fill out a card with how many of each special you want and then you order more as you go. The wings were VERY good! We got them naked and couldn't stop eating them. The shrimp were good, though work for peeling and cleaning. We didn't care for the beef in the tacos. We also got crab dip, a small side salad and onion rings. Everyone enjoyed all of it. The side salad was a good size as well. I will go back and try other food. It was a lot of fun and yummy.

Always one of our favorite stops in the Outer Banks! Love the decor - the painted ceiling is awesome. Food is always great. And you have to try their she crab soup!

Happy hour shrimps, wings and tacos

Recently moved here from Hawai'i and we decided to go out for dinner and we found this place and let me say the happy hour for shrimp and wings shocked us since the prices in Hawai'i are insane. The wings were so good me and my husband said we will definitely be back for the wings. The shrimp were good with a bit of sweetness dipped in the butter sooooo good. Dollar tacos no complaints. The staff is so friendly.

Grilled chicken wrap

We've been here a few times. My aunt loves this place. They have the best happy hour specials in the OBX. We came here for lunch on a Sunday. I ordered the grilled chicken wrap with fries. The food was pretty good. Loved their fries and their ranch was great too. The wrap felt like it was 70% romaine lettuce with a tiny bit of chicken and other ingredients. Service was great and prices were VERY reasonable too!

We arrived and waited about 20 minutes for a table. We sat outside and enjoyed the nice fresh air and breeze that was blowing. We were then notified via text our table was ready and we were seated and almost immediately greeted by our server. The restaurant has a tropical theme atmosphere and the inside is painted nicely to reflect the vibe. The food was good and came out quickly. They have a pretty nice selection of seafood choices. They also have a large drink menu. My girlfriend had the chicken bowl and she really enjoyed it. I had the rajun cajun dolphin sandwich which was very good. The fries were also cooked crispy which I prefer. The 3 fish tacos were a larger portion of food and tasted very good. Overall I would definitely eat here again. It can be a little loud inside especially with large groups but overall the experience was very good.

Shrimp Tacos

The place is bright and colorful inside. We would have been happy to sit at the bar had there not been tables available. The food was "fine" - not bad, not great. We shared some fried okra - I was pleasantly surprised by it - it didn't seem to be frozen - had a really fresh flavor and texture. The shrimp tacos were good - albeit a touch skimpy. The coconut infused rice that was served with black beans was tasty. The wings were good - had a flavorful sauce - a nice spicy sweet.

Shows bar area and ample family seating.

We went when it was happy hour. Simply it was good food and drinks at very good price. Good service as well.

Great spot! We really loved the she crab soup. The ahi bites were sooooo good! Especially with the side of the Thai glaze/sauce. They have a really good happy hour- we were not here for it but .10 cent wings .25 cent shrimp $1 tacos

Went on a Monday night, probably our 6th or 7th visit. Food is always on point! I had the Shrimp Tacos and they were so so good. Bonus points to the rice and beans. We were told it was a 45 minute wait and it took about 55 minutes The soft drinks were pretty bad, watered down or the machine needed to be changed. Fried pickles probably needed a bit more bread. Prices aren't terrible compared to other restaurants. We love the atmosphere, the staff is always great.

This place hit hurst right for us on vacation in the outer banks. The service was swift, polite, and attentive. The happy hour specials were great, cheap apps were excellent. I thought the peel and eat shrimp were great. Worth a visit if you are in town. The burger and sandwiches we had were also definitely above the average fast casual place.

Seared Shrimp Platter

This is my second time trying Hurricane MO's. Came in 2023 but just got a salad. This time I got the she-crab soup. It was creamy and very good! 9/10. Then I got the seared shrimp with Cole slaw and fries. I'm not a big French Fry fan, but they don't serve baked potatoes until after 4pm and we went for lunch. But I have to say, those were the best French Fries that I've had in a very long time. Crispy and seasoned to perfection! The Seared Shrimp was seasoned well and I used the jalapeno sauce that came with my husband's meal and it took it to another level. The Cole Slaw wasn't my favorite. But when you've had really good Cole slaw in your life, it's hard to compete with what you know. My husband got the OBX sampler. It had Tuna, Shrimp, and Mahi Mahi. It was all fried. He said it was great and fried just right. He also loved the French Fries. He got steamed veggies for his side and he said they were seasoned well and loved them. We will be back to try more things on the menu. Service was excellent even though they were busy.

Had lunch during happy hour at Hurricane Mo's -- amazing food, great prices, and a fun beach vibe! The seafood was fresh and the service was awesome. Perfect spot to relax by the beach!

Neither one was worth the money. Everything is expensive anymore when you eat out, I don't mind paying if the food is good. The soup had no signs of fish or seafood in either serving. It tasted like a spicy vegetable soup. It was good but no fish and not worth $9. The Quinoa bowl was average, tomatoes were spongy and tasteless and 3-4 pearl mozzarella balls. How is that $19? Very disappointing. I gave 1 star for our wine and our waitress Emily did an awesome job. She was prompt and took care of all the tables in the dining room. She did a fantastic job ensuring we had everything we needed. It wasn't her fault for the food. We are both locals and wanted a girl lunch, and appreciate the challenges restaurants face. Trio is always busy So not sure why today's food was so poor. I still bought wine at the store, again great shop.

The restaurant was running a bit lean with staff but our server was attentive and helpful. There's a lot on the menu to choose from -- we had the crab dip appetizer as well as the fish bites. Shipwreck's serves excellent shrimp that are large, fresh, plump, lightly battered, fried perfectly and salted just right. We again shared the order of calamari that is billed as an appetizer, but we split both plates, so it was part of our meal, and it all was plenty of food. They do a very good job on the fried food that we had and there is much more that tempted me. I don't think that the slaw was quite as good as what we had the previous time, but still a bug improvement over what it was a couple of years ago. Again, I don't know if this was a conscious change or if they are just very inconsistent. I'm pretty sure we will remain customers and I am increasing the rating because they do serve excellent seafood. The slaw cannot be the driver for the rating.

Dining extends to 2nd floor, which is where we sat. Nice menu with higher-end choices. The menu says no subs, but some of the entrees come with accouterments for advanced palettes, so I would ask about substitutions (squid ink pasta w/rockfish , for example). The Fish & Chips were among the best I've ever had. I'm very picky about slaw, and this was perfect. More pickly than sweet. He explained the special's and took our drink and appetizer order. It took quite a while for an alcoholic drink to arrive. As a matter of fact, the appetizer showed up first. He apologized and said if it wasn't ready soon, he'd stare at the bartender until it was made. Keep in mind, we were sitting at a high top across from the bar. While I was waiting for my drink, I saw one of the two bartenders come from the bar and take an order at the table that sat a good 10 minutes after us. Note, still no drink. Fast forward to the food. It was great! Everything was prepared well and tasted great. Oh, and yes my drink finally arrived. My biggest issue with this place is the credit card fee. I understand seeing this in some places, but when you charge $36 bucks for a double shot of bourbon, there shouldn't be an additional fee applied! To be fair to the server, he did stay on top of things, once we received everything, and he was a nice guy.
