I was soooo disappointed in this place. We've been here before and I loved the Shrimp Po' Boy Sandwich, they no longer have that on the menu. I had the French Onion Soup and was not good. I've eaten here several times each summer while down here on vacation. Up until this summer, I would have given it 5 Stars, hands down. Came in the other day to discover the menu had changed. No big deal, I thought, the food is always good. Apparently, there is new management or a new owner who has decided to cut portions drastically. The food was still good, which is why they still get 3 stars, but the seafood platter that they claimed would easily feed three adults would barely satisfy one. This review is meant for the bar and the food, not the servers who seemed to have been working very very productively. This is also a review based on 3 times visiting the bar with the same bartender. He was rude, cold and sloppy, each and every time. He walked away as we were ordering dinner mid way through, sloppily tossed drinks at us, spilling half of them and consistently walked away with an attitude. He explained nothing about special food or drink items and seemed to give servers attitude while they were waiting for drinks at the service bar. He just did not care, a patron shouldn't feel like they need to beg for service, if you don't want to be there working , you probably shouldn't. Nobody seemed to be in the weeds aside from him and you could easily read it on his face. The wings were better than the entrees. Even though the wings were slightly over cooked the spicy ranch wings were very good and saucy. I got the fried clam strip platter- Horrible- the clam strips were soooo tiny, I thought I was eating onion straws.. very poor quality. My fiancé ordered a chicken dinner that had a couple of shrimp on top- had to send it back to the kitchen because the chicken was so overcooked - it was chewy and stringy. Outside seating was nice. We made our first visit to Hurricane Patty's tonight, we had an Entertainment coupon for a BOGO meal. We were seated immediately, the music was loud! A man that said he's been singing there for 9 years was playing. He was good , but too loud for a dinner crowd indoors. We ordered drinks and were told of the steak special, I took out my coupon and set it on the table in plain view before ordering for the server. My husband ordered steak special, I ordered a side salad and a fish sandwich. Before I was halfway through my salad my sandwich and his meal came out. The portions were large, the salad was good. I wish they paced the meal, it was cold once I got to eat it. The server came and cleared off the table, and picked up my coupon and at that time informed us they no longer accepted them. He said the new owner took over the restaurant and didn't renew her contract with Entertainment . They continue to receive the coupons, he gets quite a few of them. He offered to see if he could get a manager to give us 10% off. He came back to say, "sorry can't help you." My husband asked to speak to this manager, he came to our table, we showed our coupon. He said the new owner had no idea those coupons were even being printed. We asked him why they don't have a sign on the door letting people know they don't accept them, or something inside the menu. He said he's been trying to get the owner to take care of that. We asked him if was going to give us an adjustment being we came there specifically because of the offer. He said no, he could/would not offer us anything because it would come out of his pocket. This is poor customer service. Waiting until after we eat, and then saying too bad is unacceptable. He could have explained they don't take them, and made an adjustment. This apparently is an ongoing issue. We won't be back, and we will be sure to spread the word. read more

First time visiting, me and my husband sat outside. Never got service. They were not even busy,, maybe five people total! After 15 minutes we walked out, they just told us, "have a good night," we looked at the hostess and complained, he just stared at us. When we were backing the car out to leave the hostess ran out yelling come back we are sorry for the inconvenience. Talk about a delayed reaction. This is without a doubt the worst restaurant I have been in over the last 40 years. We had a 6:15 pm reservation, got seated around 6:30 to a soak and wet table top. not bad since it was Thanksgiving. It took over 30 minutes for a waitress to come to our table and ask for our drink desires. A half hour later a beer with no glass and a bottle of wine "plopped" on the table arrived ( how classy ) . Eventually, a half hour later the waitress comes and asks for our dinner order. We order two app's and the Thanksgiving dinner specials, one turkey dinner and one prime rib dinner. As this was their heavily advertised special, one would think they would have it readily available. Now an hour and half later ( thank god I ordered a bottle of wine ) the waitress comes by and say's " we are running behind in the kitchen", what an understatement ! Two and a half hours after being seated we finally confront our waitress who tells us "the restaurant over booked and the kitchen is not prepared". We ask her to just make our order to go and ask to speak to the owner. She stated, "the owner is never here" and the manager is working in the kitchen. When we get home, we open the app's we ordered and they were fair at best ( coconut shrimp and stuffed mushrooms ) how could you mess that up ? The Turkey dinner had no mashed potatos and the prime rib dinner (end cut) was disgusting ( no mashed potatos as well and a gross piece of meat , all fat and about 1/2 inch thick. ) At this point I am looking for some hungry dogs in our neighborhood to feed. My boyfriend and I ate here in May 2009. It was pouring down rain when we went for a late lunch/early dinner (around 4pm), so there weren't too many people there. I ordered crab legs and beer, and my boyfriend had shrimp and beer. Both loved it. They had a live band, and we noticed some of the locals who we met earlier that day that worked at the attractions (Fountain of Youth, the Fort, etc). You know if the locals are there, it's a good spot. I love the low key, high fun local establishments that are as far away from tourist traps as possible, so this was perfect. read more

just go somewhere else. our server was MIA most of the night. the first beer was cold the rest were warm. my hurricane drink was mostly ice. my stuffed shrimp was spicy hot and dry plus did not come to the table with the sides (sent that back). my husband had fish and chips and said the fish was fresh but bland and his fries were cold so he could not eat (or send back cause the waitress was MIA). After waiting at least 30 minutes for water I went to the bar and got it myself. Went to Patty's for good food and some atmosphere. Food was acceptable, not as good as usual, but the service of the kitchen was terrible. When we arrived we saw that they were setting up for a large group, but they had not arrived or been seated yet. We were seated and placed order. Then the wait started. Every 20-30 minutes waitress would come by and tell us the order should be out soon. At an hour fifteen she said they were having trouble in the kitchen and the manager was working on it. I went to where the large group was seated..... they had eaten and some were leaving. As most know leaving one busy restaurant to go to another makes no sense. After 1.5 hours finally got food..... like said before very sub-par. All we got for explanation was sorry it happened. They did comp the meal, but hope this service style does not continue. read more

The food is never consistent. I have been served raw wings twice. The service is horrible and if you eat outside , you will have to wait a long time to get waited on. May as well get your drinks at the bar. The manager who now manages the place is rude and is not fit for her job at all!! I used to go here often but the place has gone down hill fast!! In town for a conference and looking for a place on the water for a quick bite to eat and happened to find this place where, according to their website, "The locals go to eat and kick back." What a big disappointment, in so many ways. We signed up for their newsletter since they promised a free Hurricane Crab Dip. The coupon that arrived in my email had expired three weeks earlier. They advertise a Happy Hour, but when we asked the hostess if we needed to sit at the bar to get those prices, she said, "We don't offer that anymore." It's still on the website today. As far as the food is concerned, I am not sure the locals still eat there. They shouldn't. We decided to have the Hurricane Crab Dip, despite the fact that they no longer accepted the coupon. The dried-out top made it look like it had been under a heat lamp for some time. My wife then had the Mahi Bites. Instead of "Fried to Perfection" they were soggy and barely warm. The house specialty Minorcan Clam Chowder was indeed made with potatoes, many of them, but few clams. It was at this point that we decided to pay the bill, skip the entrees, and end our evening. Nice location, but you might want to skip the food. And they do need to update their website. If you're not offering the "Happy Hour" deals, don't advertise them. read more

We had reservations for 6 people for 5 p.m. in the restaurant. We wanted to be in the restaurant instead of the outdoor patio because we wanted to listen to the group appearing in the restaurant. I confirmed our reservation twice. When we arrived, there was a tour bus full of people in the restaurant area and we had no table available. We had to wait 90 minutes to get a table in the restaurant. We had drinks as we waited, patiently! During our wait and after the tour bus left 45 minutes later, we asked the manager what was happening he said they had to set up for the group. After 90 minutes of waiting, we again asked the manager about our table and he got VERY RUDE to us. Staff excellent especially our waitress. Food good but the MANAGER was HORRIBLE! read more

First time here. Was looking for a place to eat oysters. Went here because of the positive reviews. Meh! First off, no dozen oysters even though they are on the menu. Only by the bucket that you have to shuck. At almost $30 bucket I didn't feel like working for my dinner tonight. Live soloist guitar was too loud for the place. Decent music just turn the amp down. Patrons had to yell to converse. There happened to be a table of signers and I was wishing i was one of them so I didn't have to hear the noise. Food was good. We shared the tuna dip, calamari and she crab soup. Boys had kids cheeseburgers. They said good and cheesy! The calamari was a little stringy and not sure what the dipping sauce was. The down side was the service. Not all the food got delivered and we had to track our waiter down and ask. Was waiting for him to come check on us but never did so we had to ask. Had to ask for another beer which he never brought even though we could see it in the bar window so we just asked for the check. With a headache from the noise level I was just ready to leave. Went on a Monday night with a family of 10. Hostess didn't seem to care that we had to split up into 2 separate tables and they made no attempt to accommodate all of us into one table. With a tiny bit of effort, it could have been done. The wait for the food was much longer than it should have been. Food was below average. Could have eaten much better shrimp tacos off a food truck. The lobster was chewy. Clam chowder was cold & tasted old. Steak was fatty. The waiter tried, but couldn't get our orders right. There was no light to see our food on the deck so we used the flashlights on our phones. Seems this fishing shack place has seen it's better days. If you like locals, smoking, karaoke and below average food, this place is for you. If you're a family wanting a good dining experience while on vacation, I'd check in early at Salt Life (knowing you'll wait about an hour or two), leave for some other activity, then return before they text you that your table is ready. We had not been here in years; last time we went we had bad service. But I wanted some steamed oysters, so we tried it again. The menu showed oysters by the bucket, dozen or 1/2 dozen. We wanted a dozen. The waitress said they only sell them by the bucket now. ($27.) So we ordered 6 clams & 6 mussels. And our entrees. After 45 minutes the waitress brought the entrees. She said "They didn't bring out the appetizers, did they?" We said, "NO, so just cancel them now." We pretty much felt ignored by the waitress the whole time. Was not at all impressed with the food. Ordered calamari for an appetizer. It was very soft when it came out. Not sure if it was from being frozen or what. Was hoping this place would have really fresh seafood since it was on the water but was very disappointed. Ordered stuffed shrimp for entree and even asked how big were the shrimp before I ordered. Was not the size I was told. In fact the shrimp was so small and overcooked that there's no way they were stuffed instead the crab stuffing was squeezed around the shrimp and cooked. Was horrible. Didn't even eat it. The clam chowder soup was like water. Tasted like greasy water. Vacationing in st. Augustine and have read about this place. The menu looked great so we decided to give it a shot! Arrived and put our name on the wait list (I literally watched the hostess write my name). We had a party of 4. She told me it would be 45 min wait due to being short-staffed. There are sooo many places hiring I totally believe it so I said no problem. It had been about 30 min and my husband said I think you need to double check with them because other people have passed us and been seated. A huge party (22) also came in and were immediately sat. Maybe they had reservations, but I think they just showed up and the staff didn't want to deal with making them wait. Anyway, I waited for the entire 45 minutes and still nothing. Finally, another person in our party asked what was up. He stated "it'll be 25-30 min". We said no, you said that 50 minutes ago. He said 50?? And then proceeded to tell us we weren't even on his list. He apologized and stated they are so short-staffed. I get it, to an extent, but because I watched the previous hostess/waitress write my name down (saw it with my own eyes) & this person tells us it's not there we are SOL, I just don't buy it. Total inefficiency, regardless of being short-staffed. The waitress looked at me multiple times walking by as well. Don't waste your time here. We ended up at sunset grille--delicious food, friendly staff, efficient service. read more

I went to the St. Augustine location thursday night and was appalled at how I was treated! I go there often and usually have no problems, but thursday night was much different. I was sitting at the bar minding my own business when a drunk employee decided to start cussing at me, accusing me of looking at his girlfriend. Which I definitely was not! He proceeded to make a scene wanting to fight. Being that I go there often I expected management to step in and either calm him down or make him leave. They did neither, instead the manager (who was also intoxicated) sided with the drunk, vulgar employee. I could not believe it! Any decent establishment would have fired him on the spot! If this is the kind of business they are running there, then I will definitely never be back!!!! Since this review I have met with the owner. She assured me that this was unacceptable and that she would discipline the employee as well as the manager who allowed this to happen. She also offered to comp my next meal. Like stated above, I go there often and normally have no problems, so I will give them another shot. As long as everything goes well, I will be happy to edit this review with the positive comments about the restaurant. read more

Really nice seafood "dive". And I say that affectionately having grown up around these type of bars. The seafood was well done, the fries really good and the "make your own" bloody Mary bar was pretty cool. Without a doubt a place bound to become a regular haunt. The one surprise was the "bucket of oysters". I wasn't expecting to shuck my own oysters, so if you aren't up to it, just get the dozen. Oh and Tuesday nights they have an oyster special. It says "Make reservations" and I guess that is pretty accurate. My only knock and why it's only a 4-star is that our oyster shucker needed to fine tune his abilities. Shucked oysters should be free of shell bits, contain a lot of oyster juice and not have stab holes in the meet. Perhaps we'll get a better shucker next time. read more

Our go-to place for a relaxing, laid back atmosphere. We go there at least once a week for happy hour 49 cent wings. Try the sweet and spicy datil wings, my favorite. We can chow down on a dozen wings, a dozen raw oysters and a couple drinks each and get a bill for less than $20 (at happy hour). They have live music just about every night. Try and go when JW Gilmore is there for blues you would pay to see in New Orleans. Usually full of locals and a few tourists. We always take out of town company here and they are usually charmed. Had not been for some time so we decided to go back. Sat at the bar and ordered drinks. The beer tasted "off". I mentioned this to the bartender and another was promptly served. Later, I saw why. I six year old child went to the sink and started washing glasses. The bartender accepted the glasses and placed them on the shelf and in the fridge to be used. Later two more showed up behind the bar. These could have been twins maybe three or four. I observed the bartender who was obviously their mother, wipe a baby nose and continue serving. All three were now behind the bar. I told my wife that I would speak to the Manager. She told me not to bother because the other person behind the bar was the manager. He introduced himself as Mike. So while visiting st Augustine I found this place on yelp and a friend of mine says she had been here once before. So glad we decided to stop here. I was traveling with my family of kids including a 6 week old baby. The atmosphere was appealing to both families and bar goers which I liked. The food was good. Best conch fritters I have had in a long time, loaded with conch and served fresh out the oil. My friend had the endless shrimp and they served a boatload at a time and again extremely fresh. The service was ok, waitress could have been a bit more attentive but it was Saturday night with a bar full of people. Overall a nice spot and I would love to go back during the day. read more

We have been dining at Hurricane Patty's for several years. We have watched the manager's come and go. And every time, getting alittle worse. The best manager they had was Patty. However, she has left there, to open her own place, Woodpeckers BBQ. Under new management, we went there to enjoy the weekend special. Wings were .60 a pc., shrimp were, I think $1.00 a pc., oysters shucked table side for .50, along with pitchers of beer being I think, $8.00. So that much had not changed. I always have to tell the servers, to please let the cooks know, that I am allergic to scallops, and please be aware to not cross contaminate. Well, that did not happen. I was very ill for three days. So that was our last trip there. Although, Hurricane Patty's had been sold, there is now an outside dining deck, live music, and a tiki bar, that overlooks the San Sebastian river. A really nice place to sit on a warm sunny afternoon. The menu has changed drastically, and the prices have really gone up. The wings had gone up from 10 for $8.99 to 10 for $12.95. and very pricey seafood dishes. We received a coupon in the mail, for $10.00 off, so being a gluten for punishment, we tried them again! Our server was very nice, although not real versed in knowing the menu, she was very accomadating and did find out answers for us. We decided on burgers and beer. Even though, with prior problems, they always made a great burger. They place wasn't terribly busy, more patrons at the bar, than seated in dining area. After all it was happy hour, LOL! And their happy hour does have good specials. Our food came out 45 minutes later, and apparently the cook was still working on the onion rings. Whaaaat? I am guessing he had to go pick the onions from the garden. Hee hee! The burgers were terrible, I say, TERRIBLE! We ordered med. and they were so over cooked and dry, I took it off the bun and had to use a fork and knife to cut it. The fork would not even cut through it. I guess you get what you pay for, OR DON'T! So sad. This place could really be something great. So much money has been invested in this place to make it wonderful. Little things that the customers see, should be attended to. The soap dispenser in the ladies room is ready to fall off the wall. I think it may be the weight of the soap inside it. OH WAIT, there was no soap. It seems the owner/manager, has opened another tourist trap restaurant that preys on tourist to get there one time visit. And the sad truth is there are so many restaurants in St. Auggie, that seems to run their businesses this way. The owner/manager should be more hands on. The cooks makes the restaurant. If the food is hit and miss, and not consistent, You will run your name in no time. It would also be nice to see the manager visiting with the patrons, and promote a friendly caring atmosphere. And give attention to the things that need to be fixed, that patrons see and used. After all, if the common areas of a restaurant are not right, how can the kitchen area be right.
