Came here on Valentine's Day and tried out some of their special menu items, like the rose drink and rose pork dumplings. The standouts of the meal were the Wagyu Beef Millefeuille and the chicken wontons for me. The pastry on the wagyu was so soft and flaky, while the filling was melt-in-your-mouth savory. The chicken wontons were packed with flavor and paired well with the sauce it came in. We also got the duck, which came in two parts. First was the traditional peking duck with the thin pancakes and second was like a stir fry with green beans and cabbage wraps. I enjoyed both ways, but I felt like the second way stood out a little more because I really enjoyed the crunch from the cabbage wraps and the savoriness of the stir fry. The first way wasn't too impressive to me and I feel like I could find the same quality in other places. The tiramisu was a great way to end the meal! The portion was actually really big and I liked that they used hong kong milk tea instead of coffee in the cake, but they also gave us hong kong milk tea to drink on the side. Plus, they assembled the cake right in front of us, so that was pretty cool too. The service was elite, as expected from a fine-dining place. Experience was good! Nice high ceilings and dim lit atmosphere as soon as you walk in. There's also a fabulous hallway decorated with wine bottles where you can snap a chic picture. The service was good but not great because unfortunately they forgot to put in the last drink that I tried to order. We got the lobster squid ink dumplings and the wasabi okra to start. The okra was so fresh and tastey! The dumplings were good but they were not hot when they came out, warm at best. It also came out lighting fast so seems like it was maybe from another order? For dinner I got the ribs, my friend got the steamed Chilean sea bass, and we shared a side of bok choy. All really good, actually. The ribs weren't too salty and were very tender, the fish tasted very fresh and clean, and the bok choy was flavorful. I came here for a friends birthday and right when we entered the atmosphere blew me away. The spot is upscale and dreamy, with blue and gold/silver decorations. There was a dj in the bar room blasting fun beats. We were seated in the main dining room. It didn't look super packed but our reservation was also pretty late in the evening. As for food, everything was delicious but overpriced for the portion sizes. My favorites were the duck and the wagyu beef millefueille. Food, cocktails and ambience were absolutely amazing. The setting itself is beautiful! The chandeliers and the dark aesthetic makes it feel so luxurious. As you walk into the dining room you'll go through a wine cellar hallway- very stunning! Greet for pictures. They have a great choice of cocktails and I highly recommend the "comfortably numb" cocktail. It's definitely one of my favorite cocktails by far! We went during lunch time and eager to go back to try their dinner menu. As per food 10/10 we ordered the scallop and prawn garlic wontons, seared scallops, steamed cod fillet, the ma la beef tenderloin and off the lunch menu we also ordered the half Peking duck. Everything was delicious. We do highly recommend the Peking duck to try ! It was juicy and super flavorful. This is what wants me to come back for dinner and try their flaming duck. Went to Hutong for the first time this past Friday. It's hidden away in the courtyard of the Bloomberg building on 58th street between 3rd and Alex, so the Lexington Avenue address can be confusing, but it's worth the effort. Decor is contemporary, and understated, and the noise level was almost nonexistent: no loud music, no raucous conversations trying to keep up with loud music. The staff was professional and efficient, and they were each able to explain every dish on the menu. We had the 8 dim sum (and one main) tastings menu, and it was delicious. We were full by the time we were done. And the service was well paced. We didn't feel rushed, and we weren't waiting forever either. Didn't love the dessert, it was a bit overthought, but everything else was excellent. One drawback was that there was only one gluten free dish on the entire menu, and that was due mostly to the sauces used. You would think they could figure out how to get around that if they tried. Expect to spend money. That's the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions this fine dining Chinese restaurant in midtown. I was attracted to this spot thanks to IG. That hallway that looks like a wine cellar is for sure the top spot to pose for photos. I came here as a party of four to catch up with friends and with a budget in mind, we left a bit hungry. But that means room for dessert elsewhere. Overall, drinks were great and depending on what you order, it's great or not worth it. For drinks, I ordered the Ancient Old-Fashioned ($22). It's a bit on the sweeter side then your typical old-fashioned, but that signature taste is still there. We started off with the Dim Sum Platter ($47). This came with two of the following: Lobster Squid-Ink Dumplings, Pickled Chili Cod Dumplings, Rosé Champagne Shrimp Dumplings, and Vegetarian Spinach Dumplings. For sure enjoyed every bite. The Seafood Fried Rice ($23) is something I would pass on. Taste good, but it's not unique compared to the typical Chinese restaurant. Our veggie dish is the Dou Miao ($19), or pea shoots sautéed. Cannot go wrong with this. Our main entree was the Half Roasted Peking Duck with Pancakes ($60). This came in two stages: first is served with Pancakes and later on, they bring out Lettuce Leaf Cup. We went for the flaming duck experience, which requires a reservation in advance plus prepayment. This was a completely different experience than ordering the Peking duck off the menu. The chef comes out and lights the duck and precedes with hand cutting the duck in front of you. The duck was absolutely delicious, it is not fatty or too oily and the sauces that came with duck, such as a tangy spicy sauce and papaya slices really added to the flavor. We also ordered a few other veggies such as the Gai Lan, green beans and veggie fried rice. The only issue is after the chef cut our duck I noticed there were still SO much meat on the duck, we were disappointed that the Flaming duck experience did not equate to more meat. I'm surprised the ratings are not higher for this place. We went today for Sunday brunch and every single dish was delicious. We got the peking duck (highly recommended) which also came with the rest of the duck stir fried with string beans (very delicious) , fried lotus with diced chicken (nice tasty surprise), steamed sea bass, mala prawns and the scallops and prawn wonton. We had some cocktails as well. The cocktails weren't great - they were a bit on the weaker side. But my biggest complaint is that we ordered two bowls of white rice and the rice was... awful. It tasted like regular take out rice. It was such a disappointment since the rest of the food was so good! Please consider buying better brand rice, or maybe give a choice of different type of rice. Maybe have option of Japanese rice (which is much more moist and tasty.) Great ambiance, presentation and lovely service. Very creative menu. Really, everything was great EXCEPT for the white rice! As I continue my journey to try Michelin restaurants Hutong was a great choice, the ambiance from the entrance with the wine cellar walkway to the marble staircase and chandelier was amazing. As for the service our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and gave us the heads up of the pepper level of the Bronzino. The food was a fantastic set of courses that mixed chicken dishes, tofu a couple different ways, dim sum inspired appetizer tasting menu, peking duck prepared tables side, and finished off with a tasting menu of desserts that came out with a presentation style that was truly "magical" or at least the dried ice had other dinners taking pictures. The duck had a good meat-to-fat ratio, the skin was crispy, and I liked that it was served with crepes rather than fluffy buns (you didn't feel so full from just buns). The restaurant week celebration was enough motivation to bring one to finally give Hutong a try. While RW menus are typically not a good barometer of how great a true culinary experience is, the dim sum was delicious. The Kombu Bonito Xiao Long Bao, however, is a bit of a miss in flavor department. The RW experience made a great impression, and the staff is friendly and attentive. I'll start with the flaming peking duck as that's probably the most famous item on the menu. The duck is brought out and the chef, with gloves on to protect his hands, ignites a plate near the table, similar to a flambe demonstration. He then holds the duck by the legs and spends a few minutes moving it through the flames before cutting it into perfect pieces to wrap and eat. This is definitely an attention-grabber, though I was impressed more by the piecing of the duck than the flames, which are a cool display that in my opinion did not add much to the flavor. It's a wonderful peking duck and could be shared by a large group, but it won't necessarily be enough to fill everyone's stomach. We split it between three people and still ordered a few other items to share. Pancake refills are available for $4, allowing you to keep making wraps once the initial supply is exhausted. The remainder of the duck that can't be used for peking duck wraps is also brought back to the kitchen and cooked with string beans to create a minced filling that can be wrapped with lettuce or pancakes yet again. The only thing we didn't like was that another dish was brought out right before the performance began, getting cold in the time it took for the duck to be prepared. As for the other dishes, the dan dan noodles were fine but much soupier than I'm used to. That portion is sized for a single person. The mapo tofu bao were beautiful, with the bottom covered in black and white sesame seeds, and tasted good. For dim sum, we also tried the lobster on salted egg and aged beef xiao long bao. Both of these were tasty but perhaps not worth the upcharge compared to other restaurants serving similar dishes. Finally, the ma la beef came in cubes rather than thin slices or strips as one would expect at most Chinese restaurants. This gave it a texture more like eating pieces of steak, elevating the dish although the flavor could have been stronger. Overall, this is a fancy restaurant with wonderful service and an elegant interior. The food is good and prices are as high as you'd expect from a restaurant at this level. The duck was great, though perhaps I'd skip the flames next time. Otherwise, their menu is filled with a variety of interesting items that are fun to try once though I haven't found any that are driving me to come back and eat them again. read more

I love duck and after hearing about this place from a friend, I knew I had to come here for my birthday. Found out they are a Michelin Star Restaurant too known for "The Flaming Duck" and they only accept 5 bookings per night starting at 5:30pm through 8:30pm. You have to do the prepaid ($160- up to 6 guests) online booking from Monday to Thursday (up to 14 days in advance). We got here a little early on a Sunday, and they were able to seat us while we waited for our friend. Besides the flaming duck, we ordered a whole Peking duck, which is served in 2 stages- with pancakes and stir-fry duck & green beans with lettuce leaf cups. We also got some Hutong Signature Dishes- the chilled green asparagus, prawn roll & red lantern (soft-shell crab) as well as the dan dan noodles. The flaming duck was the best we have ever had in terms of flavor, very little fat, cooked and sliced to perfection. That alone is quite pricey but definitely worth it, a must try! The Peking duck was also delicious except I didn't really like the second stage of it- I felt like there were too many green beans and not enough flavor. The asparagus was not bad either, the ends were coated with honey but there was way too much white sesame. Prawn roll was good. The dan dan noodles was silky, smooth and had just the right level of spiciness. Lastly, the soft-shell crabs were deep fried with dried whole chillies, so it had some extra kick as well. Portion size for all the dishes were decent, price was reasonable and the modern decor made it the perfect birthday dinner. Service was exquisite with servers always there to fill up our water cups without having to ask and giving us new plates. Our server, Terence was very helpful and attentive. The food came out lightning fast with a perfect pace to the next course. The Flaming Duck Experience was great and didn't take long. I would come back just for that. Best duck ever! read more

My husband and I eat at fine dining restaurants regularly where it's hard to impress him. Everything nowadays feel and taste the same once you've tried them all. It's tough to have amazing service , food quality, taste and ambiance. However, Hutong achieved that! Management was great, staff were on point. Came here for a birthday dinner. They only had a table of 6 available but birthday girl wanted to eat here so we reserved it. Most of the group arrived late and our server seemed annoyed when it was 15 mins after our reservation time and we were still waiting for two people. People are dressed nicely here. I felt quite underdressed in my nike leggings and fleece lined denim jacket but the hosts assured me that as long as I have clothes on I am within dress code. Also note their main entrance is inside the little roundabout/plaza and not on the main street. 5/5 Koushui Steamed Chicken - cold chicken mixed in an amazing sauce. This sauce would be great with other cold veggies like cucumbers and topped over rice/noodles. It has a bit of a kick, great appetizer. 4/5 Four Seasons Beans - string bean with ground meat. Good but not particularly anything to write home about. If you're looking for a veggie dish to add to your meal, this is a decent choice. 5/5 Roasted Whole Peking Duck - the duck skin was so thin and crispy. I dont usually like to eat skin or the fat that comes with it but this was absolutely amazing. The wrap was thin and held together well. I did not feel like it was at risk of breaking at any point. There were pieces of waxy paper between each wrap to keep them from sticking. Nice touch. We were served short strips of cucumber and green onion with sauce to pair with the duck and wrap. SO GOOD. Apparently lettuce and a meat with green bean mix was a second option to eat the duck with but it came out waay after we had finished the duck. In fact our server had already taken away the tray for the duck when the lettuce and mix was brought to our table. Definitely wait til you have both wrap and filling options for the duck otherwise you'll be left loading your wraps with duck like we did. Savor this, its so good! 2/5 Zhenjiang pork ribs - dry. There was very little fat on these. I didn't mind it so much bc I prefer less fat on all of my food but my friends were not happy about it. The meat does come off pretty easily 4/5 Dandan noodles - pretty good. Saucy, with a bit of a kick. Did not taste like traditional dan dan noodles. This comes in a small rice bowl, is an individual portion, not for sharing unless you all just want a taste. Overall the food was good. The main standout is the duck. My friends said they would return only for the duck. None of our servers smiled at any point. If we helped with clearing the table they thanked us but that was the extent of the interaction. Felt a little sterile for such a nice setting. Unsure if this is standard for the type of restaurant. The interior is beautiful. Its dark but glamorous. Chandeliers across the ceiling, booth seating and mirrors along the way to the bathroom. Very classy appearance. Kind of regret not getting any photos of the inside. This place gets stars for the food and upscale interior. None of the food was bad but i expected a place of this caliber to not have any dishes less than 3/5. Deducted a star for that and a bland experience with servers. Hosts were lovely though. read more

Food: We came here for restaurant week and we got their set that included a chicken salad, dim sum, cod fish, and sorbet. On the side we also ordered half a peking duck. Peking Duck: Probably the best thing we had out of everything we ate that night. The duck was seasoned pretty good but wished the skin was crispier and if they provided us with more wraps. Cod Fish with a side of white rice: The cod fish was definitely on the overcook side and it was a bit spicy from the jalapeño. The white rice was probably my least favorite part of the meal. The rice tasted like it was unwashed and it was really dry. They gave us the dragon fruit sorbet (not pictured) as dessert and it was okay. The dim sum wasn't that authentic and the wrappers felt like they were easily broken from just picking it up. Service: The people there were pretty nice but it seemed like they didn't know too much about the menu and the food came out pretty quick but the dessert took 20 minutes to come out. Ambiance: This is definitely on the higher end side with dress code. It is a bit dark inside with a really nice hallway for pictures. I noticed a lot of people there for date nights. read more
