We tried Hy-Vee Market Grille for their Easter brunch this year and were very disappointed in the product. After being seated, no one came to our table to take our drink orders and ended up having to ask a bartender after 10 minutes. The buffet line was extremely disorganized and only had 1-2 people working. They had to scoop and serve everything so it made it a slow process. I was the 3rd in line and easily took over 5 minutes to start my plate. The food ended up being room temperature and not hot. I'm not sure if this is indicative of the Market Grille on a normal operational day but Easter Brunch did not provide a good first impression. This is no real reflection on Sharon who is a new server at The Market Grille and was trying hard. This Market Grille has a nice decor and is huge. Unfortunately, two big for two people to wait on everyone even if not hugely busy. The bigger issue is the daily HyVee meal special as we came for the steak special and the food was cold! In addition, side choices ran thin and we didn't want to wait 5 min until new quantities were provided. Again, there was new staff trying hard, but if HyVee is trying to get you to be a regular at this location it didn't work for us. We like their dinner specials, especially the steak special. We've been trying out the various Market Grille locations (mostly in South Overland Park) and our favorite is the one in Lee's Summit off 3rd Street & Ward Road because the food is always hot, sometimes cooked to order and at times with drink tastings. I have had really good luck with this restaurant. I happened to go on half price sushi night, and have returned many times. Their wings have been hit and miss. Coke was flat, grilled veggies weren't grilled, honey glazed roll was overcooked and dry and the Shepard's pie was wrong in so many ways. Shocking, absolutely astonishing. After surviving some fairly pedestrian food at an older Hy-Vee store, my expectations for this place were fairly low and I was blown away. It's a full fledged nice restaurant attached to a nice Hy-Vee store. The service was top notch and the food was rich, full of flavor, and ample in portion. Mac-n-cheese burger with grilled asparagus? Oh yes, most definitely one of my best burger experiences: cooked medium, buried in really cheesy shells, chunks of bacon, and well seasoned bread crumbs. Just perfect. They also have half price sushi on Wednesday (which I will certainly be back to try), brunch on Sunday, and if you have kids, they eat free on Tuesday nights. The only caveat? If you don't catch a special, you'll be paying the $$-$$$ price for a meal. read more

The food here is very average when comparing the prices. I actually enjoy eating the regular buffet style food they offer better. I just have a hard time sitting in Hyvee and ordering a sit down meal for the same price you can go to a nice restaurant. The servers were very new to not only the location but to serving in general. It was almost embarrassing listening to our waitress explain why it was taking so long. I have been to the Hy-Vee Market Grille several times since they opened and I have never had a meal that was satisfactory. Today I ordered Chinese food and a child's cheese pizza, through the Hy-Vee Market Grille app. I receive a text message letting me know my order was ready but when I got there it was not ready and I was there over 5 minutes before they even started the pizza. I couldn't wait, I had to get back to work, so I had to tell them to forget the pizza. I fed my kid a pb&j instead. The beef with broccoli I ordered was TERRIBLE. This is my kids favorite spot for some reason. We end up going there after special events when the kids get to pick where we eat. We keep going back, issues from previous dinners seem fixed but others come to light. One kind young lady stoped at our table and found out who our server was so that we could be served. Then a little boy walks in clearly looking for something and he walks up to the server and bartender and was ignored. I finally stood up and said something asking the little boy to come to me. The same young lady that helped us find out who our server was, helped him. And got on his level and assisted him. The manager who was at the server station clearly heard my displeasure but still did nothing. Never checked on tables about our experiences. I can overlook a lot since I work in the industry but the service is the key. The highlight to our evening was the young dark haired lady that wasn't our server. read more

We just moved to the area and was not sure where to go for breakfast. Since we had to get groceries anyway we decided to try brunch here. The food was very good besides the eggs, they seemed a bit watery. I avoided them all together and went to the omelet station. Not only do you get s breakfast bar that they have set up, you get to visit the other bars in the store( ie salad bar, Asian bar, etc) the whole thing seemed a bit pricy until I found the prime rib station. After multiple trips, I felt I got my money's worth. They have a regular menu as well and it small, but has all the basics. Earlier this evening my family and I decided to try out the Hyvee Market Grille. When we got seated, we were informed that there was a half-off appetizers special. We decided to order boneless wings to make use of the half off appetizers. The wings took about 15 minutes to come out and then came out bone-in, so we sent them back and received a fresh set of boneless wings about 15 minutes later. Our food took approximately 45 minutes to come out due to being "backed up." This was very odd since the restaraunt was practically empty except for us and maybe three other tables. During this time the waiter came to refill waters and ask us how we were doing only two times. When it came time to pay, he handed us the check with both sets of wings being charged and no half-off appetizer discount applied. We asked him to change this and he came back with only one set of wings being charged to us with the discount. But our coupon that we had used was not on the check. He began to explain that because the wings were half-off, the coupon was not valid. We then looked at the coupon/coupon sheet and there was no mention of anything like this. So he eventually went back and changed the check for a third time. In the end we were very disappointed by the terrible service and distraught that we paid over $50 and spent over an hour and a half for miserable service read more

Hy-Vee is my go to grocery store. I have their app downloaded and linked to my fuel savers card. I can access digital coupons, make my list, and etc through the app. I love the fact they offer free produce for the kids while you shop. People/staff are very friendly. I've had a few issues here but it's not gonna stop me from coming. I address the big issues with management and they are thankful for the feed back to strive for better service. They hire high school kids at the registers who are easily distracted so you really have to watch to make sure they do their job correctly. I've stopped ordering pizza from the bakery because they are so inconsistent! I feel they need someone who knows how to properly work that amazing oven they have! read more

Came for breakfast on a Sunday morning. After waiting twenty minutes for a table, with several open tables available, we were sat. I also want to point out that someone who came in behind us was sat before us. When I asked for a breakfast menu I was told breakfast ended at 12:00. We've been regulars for a couple of years and have overall been VERY happy with them. Particularly when Vance was their manager, the service was stellar and the food consistently good. When we gave feedback, it usually resulted in noticeable improvements. For example, they have complimentary honey rolls as an appetizer. When done right, they are a form a bread crack, they are so good. For awhile, they were not done right and sometimes barely edible. Having mentioned it to Vance, there was a change in who managed that offering; from that point on, they were incredible. Recently, Vance was promoted and new folks took their place. Not thinking anything bad, we went to have dinner. We were seated reasonably fast, but then no one took our drink order or gave us menus for about 15 minutes. While we know most of the wait staff, this was a new person. After getting our drinks, she took our order. We never saw her again, except as she talked with a table of guys for about 10 minutes, then again disappeared. After about 40 minutes of waiting for our food, we asked another server that we knew if she could check on our order. It had been waiting on the line, forgotten, and was served to us cold. My wife was too hungry to return the dish, but I did complain to the kind server who helped us out. I had also requested that she take over our table, since we've had many, many positive experiences with her (shout out to Jasmine). She was not allowed, and our server came back apologizing. Again she disappeared and never came back to check on us. Eventually the manager came back and defensively told us we ordered our food wrong if we wanted it hot (baloney - we'd ordered these dishes many times before). When I called him on it and told him the food had been left on the line, he grunted and walked off. No apology, no comp or discount, and he felt it was my fault. I was upset enough that I wrote in on the HyVee feedback line. I eventually got a "we're looking into it, thanks for the feedback" response. So we left the place alone for about a month or so (different than when we visited it at least once a week). Recently, we tried it once more. That manager wasn't there at the time (I don't know if he was replaced or was just off-shift). This time, the service was OUTSTANDING, better than ever. The server was attentive without being intrusive, and the food was brought out fresh and hot. I complimented the server on his work, and he seemed genuinely surprised and pleased. I go there primarily for their excellent sushi, and it's back to being excellent. Other dishes are good as well. Maybe the place just had a "bad hair" day, but whatever the problem was, it seems to have been corrected. BTW: Try the "Cha Ching" sushi - totally awesome! read more

We ate here a couple of months ago and loved it. The burgers were delicious and cooked to order. The service was fast and friendly. We were even given complimentary loaded tater tots as an appetizer that were delicious. The prices were a little high but worth it. Now for the downside: I'm so disappointed. We went back 2 days ago and they no longer have table service. I was so impressed and happy with that level of service in a Hy-Vee, now you have to go to the cashier and wait in line to place an order like a fast food place, then they'll bring your food to you when it's done. You have to get your own drinks. So if you want something from the bar, not only do you have to wait in line to pay for your food, you have to wait in another line and pay separately for your drink. If you want soda, water, coffee, or tea, those are self serve. I was impressed with the service the first time, but when we saw the changes they made we turned around and went somewhere else. We won't likely be back and pay those prices now that there is no table service. read more
