There was trash in the room when we came in...a bunch of paper and bags stuffed behind the chair in the corner. When we first called down to tell the front desk, we were put on hold for several minutes and had to call back. Finally did get a hold of someone. We went for a walk and when we returned, some of the trash had been cleaned up, but there was still paper stuffed behind the chair (even though we had told the front desk that that was where the trash was). On top of this, the room we were given was the ADA-compliant room, which we were told was our only option if we wanted a king bed. It was very clear that this hotel 'phoned-in' conversion of this room for ADA-compliance; many of the fixtures were poorly converted or useless, regardless of one's ability status. For example, the bathroom sink was incredibly small and shallow. More the size of a sink in an RV than a full bathroom. Instead of installing ADA-compliant towel racks, there were simply no towels in the bathroom. It really was unpleasant to step out of the shower and realize that you have to walk out into the bedroom and into the closet to get a bath towel. Annoyingly, the room's security latch was installed at the same height as the main light switch. When the latch was unlocked, it covered the light switch. The was very frustrating when coming into a dark room for the evening and having to fumble behind the latch to get to the switch. The overall ambiance of the hotel lobby felt more like a mall food court than a relaxing hotel. Parking was shockingly expensive, and increased the cost of our stay by 50%. The breakfast scrambled eggs were oh my god horrible "almost powdery". Their fitness center is shameful and there is no swimming pool. One thing I always pay attention to is the bathroom when I stay at a hotel - Does it smell? Are the curtains moldy? Are there enough towels for everyone?- And for the first time ever, this place passed with flying colors! I ended up on the 23rd floor in a double room. We were facing the city so the view wasn't as great, but who cares when you have a super soft bed with 4 pillows? The hotel staff were friendly at check-in and check-out and we had no major issues with our stay. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars - no pool (Why!?) and no internet included (WHAT!?). I stayed here over the weekend and WOW I was very impressed! I was happy to get such a good rate on Hotwire which made up for the Price of parking overnight $59 :( The hotel is BEAUTIFUL starting with the escalators that take you up to check in and the floor to ceiling bar. We had our rooms on the 19th floor and it was a nice view to people watch from. The beds were extremely comfortable, nice TV and bathroom. I would have given it 5 stars but I didn't think the menu for room service was that great and the food was just o.k. We ended up still leaving and going to grab something else. This hotel is a nice hotel but the rooms leave a lot to be desired compared to my previous stay in Chicago. I was at this hotel for a conference and the conference facilities are nice. The restaurant and bar area are a good place to enjoy a drink but it is very loud. I upgraded to a junior suit and was put on the 3rd floor with absolutely no view. $400+ a night usually gets you a pretty salty view. In addition the tv was grainy and internet service was slow as well. I've stayed in the junior suites at TheWit a couple of blocks over and the difference is night and day. TheWit puts you up on the 25+ floor level, gives you two tvs that actually show in clear HD, give you a kitchen with fridge and bar and give you a jetted tub with seperate shower. Much better bang for the buck and I won't make the mistake of choosing the Hyatt again even if future conferences are held here. read more

Was woken up at 7:30 AM to the very loud sound of hammering and drilling directly on the outside wall of our room on the 21st floor. It was loud enough that when I called the front desk to ask what was going on that they asked me to speak up to hear me over the drilling. This was in a room we paid extra for to have a view. The drilling was schedule to end nine hours later at 5:30 PM. I was unable to make business calls due to the noise. It was louder than a tv on maximum volume. Two nights earlier it took three calls - over a two hour period - to security to get them to deal with the yelling/screaming occurring in the room next to ours. This was from 11 PM to 1 AM. Felt nickled and dimed the rest of the stay. $4.50 charge for me to print my boarding pass? I've never been charged at any other hotel and travel monthly. Avoid unless you like to be woken up late at night and early morning. read more

Great location! The staff in the front desk were very helpful and friendly. Made checking-in really easy, the rooms where clean I had an excellent view. The hotel itself was ok, but we used the event planning/catering service for a private event and the service we received was atrocious. The main event planners here are completely incompetent and totally dishonest. Not only did they make promises that were left unfulfilled, but they also blatantly lied and stated that they provided services that were not provided. The food was passable, but it was not served according to plan, the service workers were late, and the planners/managers were absent and unreachable when food and drinks were not provided in accordance with our contract.. I will never provide this company any more money after this botched event, and I advise that others not use any event services/catering services offered by these people. read more

Back from friday & saturday nite stays in King Deluxe room 3002.... oct 21 & 22...Bed was Posture Pedic Grand and hardly a pillow top!!!! pillow tops give a floating on cloud feeling and this bed was lumpy and hard as rock!!!! We observed on the floor and around the base of the walls filthy dust and dirt!!! Absolutely the worst discovery Sunday morning were finger & toe nails scattered about the floor, not noticed before but now in the bright daylight very disgusting!!!! I recently booked a reservation for a family member through a website that I will not name. On our way to the hotel, we decided to call to confirm the reservation, JUST IN CASE, and the hotel had stated that they did not have a reservation under my name. Now, I had a confirmation e-mail and the payment was already processed. I had to call the hotel again and was put on hold for 20 minutes. Then was told to contact the website I booked it through. I was then on hold for another 40 minutes!!! The three people I was put through to were all very helpful and the hotel ended up upgrading the room for the inconvenience so that was nice but I just did not understand the confusion. All in all the stay was very nice for this family member but the being on hold and calling back and forth was not the greatest to say the least. read more

Stayed here for a weekend. Staff was very polite and accommodating. The place was very clean. We stayed on the 14th floor of the west tower and we had beautiful views of the city/river/and lake. Two weeks ago I attended a conference here and had a pair of pants and jacket destroyed by their janitorial staff who dropped a container of bleach cleaning solution which splashed onto me. The rooms were nice enough, luckily we found a really good deal online for the rooms. We had requested early check-in (for a $15 fee) but we did not get it, even at regular check in time, our rooms were not ready (we requested adjoining rooms that were not ready so settled on 2 neighboring rooms). One room was ready for us when we arrived after check in but the second took an additional 45 minutes to be ready to be checked into (an hour and a half after check in time). This was one of the worst experience I had gone through out of all my trips... I had booked a room with 2 queen beds and when I got there they didn't have any rooms available so the put me in a room with two full beds..I went back down to tell them that I had booked 2 queens and want what I paid for so they put me in another room that said were queen beds and when I got to the room they were exactly the same full beds as the first room they put me in. I went back to complain again and they keep telling me the beds were queen when u can see they weren't for them to believe me we took pics of the tags on the bed and they were a full I shouldn't have to prove what u can see.. They made us stay in that room till the morning that they will have a room for us that we can go out and enjoy our day and when we would get back to the hotel all we would have to do is pick up the new room keys.. Not how it went we got back to the hotel from being out all day and they didn't have no room ready and we still had to explain the situation all over again to someone else and they didn't have no notes from the person we talked to the night before over all it was just not a good experience and the customer service was not that well and all this inconvenience with a baby who is only 6 months old read more

Although this hotel has quite the attractions within and surrounding, I was deeply unimpressed with my experience here. The fact that I was charged a whopping $217 a night ( roughly $680 for 3 nights), you would think small perks like a microwave, a refrigerator, a blanket, steady running water, wifi, a properly working tv, and a proper running coffee pot would all be apart of one's stay. I'm from Texas and had never been to a hotel that didn't have a microwave to warm food, or a fridge to cool food and drinks - or at least one or the other, to be completely fair. I just assumed that a seemingly nice, fancy hotel like the Hyatt Regency would have such minimal items in their rooms....Well, they don't! At least they didn't when I was there. And I was extremely disappointed that these were my experiences. I SO wanted to enjoy being there and love the experience, it was my first visit to Chicago! We stayed for 3 nights and the entire time, we had issues w/our tv continuing to freeze up. It did this every single time we tried to watch it and it seems as if it would freeze for a longer period the more we tried to watch...VERY frustrating! We called the front desk and all they could advise was to keep turning the tv on & off to reset it...What?!?! We arrived and realized there was no microwave OR fridge in the room. Considering this room was so expensive per night, the last thing I wanted to have to do is keep running downstairs after 15 minutes of waiting for elevator to go down & come back up to the 1st floor's cafe to warm my food each time I was ready to eat something. We had to wait when we became parched & thirsty. We wanted a cold drink often enough, but we'd have to get ice fr/down the hall and also go down to the lobby floor's cafe to buy cold drinks - another elevator trip in this 30-35 floor hotel. The rooms didn't have any fleece or big enough blankets for the cold room, so we called down and asked for blankets and were told they didn't have anymore. Are you kidding me?!?! Then, I get up the first morning to make coffee w/the coffee pot and coffee included in the room, and the coffee begins to leak all over the counter/desk where it was sitting, directly next to the television. It leaked onto the floor where we had to grab a big towel to keep from damaging the floor's carpet. We ultimately turned the coffee pot off to never use again. Now, I wonder if the coffee pot had anything to do with why the television could never work properly, who knows. And lastly, the "free" wifi would never work properly or consistently. I had to work during this stay and literally had to log off of their "free" wifi to use my own hotspot in order to get my work done in a timely manner. No sites would pull up completely when I tried to work on the hotel's wifi. It was extremely slow and seemingly inoperable. I think for the money paid for this room and stay, it was a terrible experience and honestly, I didn't and still don't appreciate it. I wish it was better, much better....after $700 later, Smh...Never again! read more

Mixed feelings for this Hyatt. THE GOOD: - Location is pretty good as you're on the south end of Magnificent Mile and you're about 3 blocks from the Loop. - Usual Hyatt Regency level accommodations - Quick check-in/check-out options with the automated computer terminals (there was a monster line up for front desk staff when we arrived) - free printing of airline boarding passes at the lobby computers - quick baggage checking service - they had a machine dispensing free ice-cold lemon water at the lobby (was a lifesaver after walking around in Chicago in the summer) - like all Hyatts now - free WiFi in rooms - staff were quick to respond whenever I called - they had a guy making balloon animals in the lobby the day we checked in - presumably to entertain the kids... but he also made balloon animals for... 'bigger kids' THE BAD: - it's basically a business convention hotel - it's huge and very impersonal - all extra amenities were very expensive to take advantage of business accounts - we arrived before check-in time and the check-in computer said I could 'pre'-check-in and promised to text/email my phone as soon as my room was 'ready' -- we came back an hour after check-in time (I didn't receive any notification) and my room was magically available - the fuck, man... - the big snack bar on the desk which warns you if you move anything from it, a sensor will trigger and you will be billed. Come on, man - I know you want to avoid people messing around with the food or eating it and then 'rebuying' replacement elsewhere -- but I don't want to be near a booby-trapped snack bar - no usable refrigerator - the fridge in the room is exclusively for the hotel bar and warns that opening it will trigger a charge and they don't want you using it for your personal goods for 'hygenic' reasons. I called front desk to request a personal fridge and they said it was $25/stay. FUCK OFF. The fridge thing really irked me. We requested a fridge for the... ahem... "insulin" (which was free) and they sent us a tiny fridge that can fit about 2 canned beverages. So we just kept an ice bath in the sink. One of the shittier Hyatts I've stayed at. read more

Just minutes into my weekend in Chicago, I stepped into the Hyatt Regency and thought, wait a minute, did I just walk into Las Vegas? The massive hotel is a conventioneer's dream. Two huge towers of rooms and an atrium that was so big it had me looking around for the missing slot machines. I was lucky to be attending along with a tattoo convention...a very large tattoo convention. The cheesiness of the lobby continued on to my first room that reeked of the strongest cleaner ever created. Luckily, they were very nice about changing my room. The view of the Chicago River and out to the lake was probably the greatest part of my room. Even with a fancy flat screen tv, I felt like I might as be in a Holiday Inn. Also, $13.50 for wifi? Really? I think I would rank this hotel as two stars but the price can't be beat for its great location. I was blocks away from Michigan Ave, the Art Institute and Millennium Park. Also, I admit I can't really complain since I got a great deal for his hotel through Priceline. If you are on a budget or just looking for a place to crash then is the hotel for you. read more

This hotel unfortunately tries to nickle and dime you at each opportunity. First we had to wait until 6:30 please to check in. They then tried to direct us to eat at their restaurant and get "20% off" as they pulled out a coupon from a large stack of at least of 1000+ of those coupons on the counter. Then they have me a twin room instead of the king room that I reserved. Then I ordered room service for something that cost $17. Only to find out that they charge an $18 fee to bring the food upstairs which doesn't include tip. This $18 fee is not mentioned anywhere. Then I got charged $4.75 to print one piece of paper. Overall it's a nice hotel and I enjoyed Chicago but just be careful of the hidden cost read more

All right. Me, I usually can be found staying in budget class hotels, like Super 8, Red Roof Inn, and places such as that. But this place changed my outlook on everything. Now when I'm stuck at the Budgetel, I long for a place like this. I stayed here after a north side pub crawl. The room was fabulous in itself, with comfortable furniture, dark colored upholstery (but not depressing), mini-bar (I do have to admit- I had to have myself a Jagerbomb. I just wanted to know if the $12 airline-style bottle of Jager was any different than the regular bar variety!) data-port, big comfy beds complete with lots of pillows! To me that was heavenly. Not to mention the in-room coffee maker complete with Gevalia coffees (Double-yum!). So to someone who is usually budget conscious, this was heaven! The next morning, we went downstairs to the breakfast buffet, and I was even more impressed. The custom-made omelet I had was off the charts (Swiss cheese and Portabella mushroom!) and the strawberry kiwi smoothie I had accompanying it was good as well. The only problem I encountered during my stay was upon check in; they seemed to have lost our reservations. So the process to get checked in took a bit longer than normal. But the staff was very friendly and apologetic about the whole situation, which made the wait bearable. If I ever need to stay the night downtown again, this is my spot! read more

Just ok. It's clean, large, and relatively well located if you enjoy the loop tourism. It's huge. This can be an issue if you want to just find a coffee not brewed in your room. We were in the west tower, so walking up the road a bit got us some coffee unless we wanted to go underground and search (and smell like the tempura being fried by the sushi place down there). The coffee shop down there was really just a counter as the outside was closed for construction. I've stayed at other Hyatt properties, and this one just doesn't wow me. Note that the west tower is somewhat disconnected from the swank that is the east tower (restaurants, bars, overpriced market and shops). The people were helpful and nice enough, and I'm betting if I was on the other side of the tracks I would have been more happy. That said, last time I stayed was at the Hampton downtown, and there I've got breakfast, upgraded to a suite because I told them it was a special occasion, and got a basket of wine and cheese for it. This trip was my birthday, and I got a Hepatitis C flyer outside my door. (There was an infectious disease conference there). read more

Oh, Hyatt Regency Chicago. How your Lost and Found department has tainted my review so. I attended the NYE 2009 bash at the hotel and let me tell you, it was a bash and a half. I went with a bunch of friends and we ended up getting three rooms total and all of the rooms were incredibly nice, big flat screens, ipod docks, granite counters in the bathroom, great views, etc. The party allegedly had 2000 people attending but the Hyatt was definitely ready for everyone, checking in was a breeze, and they gave us our three rooms all on the same floor, which was a total perk. The party was a blast - the top level was the band and it had lots of light, and the second level was much more dark, clubby, and had a DJ. I would HIGHLY recommend if you attend the shindig next year to get to the party as early as you can because finding seats to eat was a struggle. Partially because we had a large group but that was pretty much the only negative for the party. You occasionally had to wait a long time for a drink but almost every bartender handed them out two at a time and they were all strong. The party was a huge success, the hotel was beautiful, and everyone had a great time. HOWEVER - upon checking out the next day and heading back to the burbs, I realized that I had left something in the room. Right around the same time, my friend called and told me she had left something in her room too. OK partially our faults because hey, check and make sure you have all your stuff. So I called and talked to the Lost and Found department and they told me they'd look for it and get back to me. They didn't get back to me. I called the next day. They said they still hadn't found it but that doesn't mean that it had not shown up. My friend stopped by the next day. They didn't have either thing. I have called about every other day for almost two weeks now and neither of our items have shown up. Their voice mail message says they will call you back in 24 hours and I've probably left four messages and gotten one call back. I just think it's insane that they have a designated lost and found department ... employees whose ENTIRE job is recovering guest's lost items... and they haven't found either item OR gotten back to us about our lost stuff. So that really negatively affects my overall Hyatt experience, sadly. I understand that NYE was really busy and a lot of people probably left stuff but I have called multiple times and they are well aware of me and what I am looking for.... how could they have not found either thing, almost two weeks later? Bogus. In short, the NYE party is a GREAT value but if you attend next year, MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE WITH WHAT YA BRUNG!! read more

I never really hop on yelp to review hotels but they really went above and beyond for me this weekend. I just checked in and was about to start unpacking when I noticed that due to rough baggage handling by American Airlines, my carefully packed travel mirror still shattered all over my luggage :( I dusted it off my clothes as best I could and called the Exceptional Stay number to ask for help. Sure enough, they sent a housekeeping staff to help me vacuum what had gotten on the floor and she went so far as to use a wet towel to thoroughly clean the inside of my luggage! I've never been so taken care of like this by a hotel, most other places I would assume would just vacuum the floor haphazardly and shake out my suitcase but she was legit scrubbing at the fabric and inspecting it for shards. She was an older Asian lady, I didn't catch her name or anything and I don't know how to sing her praises to Hyatt management but her help alone (and genuine concern for my safety) totally won me over. read more

I stayed in this hotel from May 7, 2015 to May 10, 2015. Overall, my experience at the Hyatt Regency Chicago was negative due to the poor hotel management. Problem 1) We had to change room during our stay When we got there, we were informed that they made a mistake during the booking process and we had to change room after the first night. This was already annoying, but they were able to make the room change even worse. They: - did not give us a new room until after 4:00pm. Notice that check-in time is 3:00pm. So, not only we had to check-in again the second day of our stay, but they didn't even honor their own check-in time. - did not deliver our bags (that we left in the old room, as suggested by the hotel front-desk) in the new room for another solid 45 minutes. When I called the front-desk, they transferred me to the guys in charge of deliveries. It turns out that the front-desk never told them to deliver our bags.. After complaining about it, we received a free breakfast and 50% discount on one night. The best thing about this is that they still charged us for the free breakfast! We told them about this mistake at check-out. Try to guess what happened next... We checked the credit card statement a few days later and the charge was still there. We called the hotel and they said that there was a problem with the reimbursement. We should finally get our money back in 5-6 days, more than 2 weeks after the wrong charge. Problem 2) Noisy neighbors If you are a hotel manager and you are asking a couple of customers to change room in the middle of their stay (due to your own mistake), in what room should you transfer them? In the room next to a group of 20-something-year-old guys that shout and "party" until 4:30am, obviously! These guys were truly something. Instead of going out and hitting the clubs, they spent two nights in their room watching tv super loud, shouting, wrestling, and being obnoxious. I called the front desk several times during both nights and apparently they sent security to the adjacent room. I say apparently, because nothing changed: the loud neighbors kept doing what they wanted. I would not be surprised if the from desk didn't actually contact security. When we reported this at check-out, the hotel employee was surprised and told us that our neighbors should have been handled differently. In conclusion, the hotel itself is nice, the rooms are ok, the restaurants in the hotel are ok as well. The location is very good. However, the management in this hotel is horrible. The area is full of hotels, just go somewhere else. For sure, we won't be back. read more

This hotel is absolutely stunning. Everything was top notch. The service. The rooms were excellent! Loved every second of my stay!

NEVER, EVER, NEVER, EVER, EVER AGAIN! Horrible Customer Service!! :( My wife, son and I had reservations for an Easter weekend stay at the Hyatt Regency, 151 E. Wacker Dr in Chicago. We left the hotel and returned home after 4 hours. Why, you might ask? We had a room with 2 Queen beds, and one had a SERIOUS sagging problem across 80% of the bed, perhaps 6-8 inches deep. Given the fact I have 2 bulging discs, that is a major problem. After informing management of this, we were told the beds were recently changed because of the ongoing renovation. Really? Well it is sagging now and unusable. We asked to be moved to another room and were told they were sold out. As an insult, we were offered a rollaway bed instead. ("Did I not say I have 2 bulging discs?"). We informed management we were leaving instantly and asked for a complete refund and reversal of a free night I had used for one of the nights. Upon checkout, the front desk associate was very concerned about our experience, and asked if there were anything she could do or possibly book us in another hotel. We thanked her and said no. We never saw a manager and apparently they could have cared less. This was an appalling, annoying and totally unsatisfactory experience. To add insult to injury, the free night expires today, March 31 2012 and of course they put the day back in my account with the same expiration date. Cancelling my Hyatt Visa, burning the rest of my Gold Passport Platinum points and moving back to Starwood. Nice, clean room, comfortable bed, great bathroom, and friendly staff. The bar on the 2nd floor is quite nice! Bartender on Thursday night 12/27 had zero personality though. We didn't order a 2nd round of drinks. We stayed on the 12th floor. Would stay there again. read more

This hotel does a lot of things right! When we checked in, Al pretty easily helped us switch our reservation to be paid for with points. He also upgraded us to a "junior suite". The room was large and clean, although when we arrived back from dinner around midnight, the group in the adjoining room was really, really loud. We called the operator, got connected back to Al, and he moved us to a new room with no questions asked. The new room ended up being even nicer than the first! It also had an adjoining room (but it was quiet!). The free WiFi was easy and worked well. We had a great night's sleep. In our two giant rooms, I wished that the layout of the space was different--maybe a bigger bathroom and less space allocated to the sitting area. The toiletries were pretty nice, although the shower didn't drain well. Given how unexpectedly fancy our rooms were, I was surprised there weren't robes in the closets. Hyatt Regency hotels always have a list of items you can keep or borrow (like slippers, phone chargers, etc.). Check out was easy with lots of kiosks and a key drop off, so we were able to get out quickly. We didn't park at the hotel, but it was pretty pricey (like $60/day). We chose a nearby garage on ParkWhiz and paid about half of that. Overall, this hotel isn't the fanciest option in Chicago, but it was plenty nice and I would definitely return. Easy check in process, they had plenty of staff on hand to help. The rooms are nice and clean. The bed is fairly comfortable. I have stayed here once or twice before and haven't had any problems. It is a short walk to restaurants and the restaurant and bar they have in the hotel are good. The only thing that was a little off putting was when I checked in I asked if I could get a fridge in my room because unlike the Hyatt attached to McCormick place this location doesn't have them in the rooms. I was told it was not a problem they would send it up. After waiting for over 30min I called down to see if it was on its way. They lady on the phone said oh well you know if you want a fridge that is going to be a $25 charge. I am staying for 8 nights so $25 for a fridge for that long is really not bad, other hotels have had similar charges, and I agreed to it but it was the fact that when I checked in the lady who I put the first request in with didn't tell me there was a charge for it and never sent it up. read more
