This is a very nice hotel. Unfortunately it is poorly lit by the entrance. Parking is horrendous. They try and make you pay $38 a night to valet and they will not let you use the garage on the property. You have to go down the street and park in a public parking garage. Save your money and go somewhere else. I booked for 5 nights thru Hyatt one month before my stay. When I went to check in, they told me I was in one room for first night and a different room the rest of the visit. I was told I would have to check out, move my stuff, and when they got another room together I could take my luggage to that room. Place smells musty and moldy. A third of elevators do not work. Toilet in the room they ended up giving me leaks on the floor. Thermostat was set for 90 when I got into room, it was 90 outside. Other guests told me they had similar issues with one lady telling me she had to ask for bedding as the room they gave her did not have sheets or blankets. Hyatt is definitely second rate compared to Marriott and Hilton's I have stayed in. read more

I flew across the country and drove for nearly 4 hours only to be told my reserved wellness king room was not available. This room was reserved more than a month prior. I was offered an upgrade to a room with two double beds. As this is a downgrade to me it was very insulting. I said it was not acceptable and was then offered $50 in dining credit. This was also meaningless to me as I would not be changing my trip just to find a way to use it. I had to find much more expensive accommodations elsewhere with no aid from the hotel. The desk staff was uncaring and not helpful. They told me they were going to wave the cancellation fee which just made me angrier since that should not have even been a consideration. Why would I be charged a cancellation fee when they cancelled my room before I even arrived? Only the valet and other guests showed any empathy. After complaining I was contacted by the hotel and told I would receive information so that I could get a discount next time I stay there. This too is useless as they have given me no reason for there to be a next time. I also did not receive the follow up email I was told would come. Purely an empty promise. Somewhere between 2 and 3 stars. For location, you cannot beat this place. It's right in the thick of activity on River St. You can literally take an elevator from the lobby level down to the street avoiding the crazy stairs. The atrium looks nice and airy, but still a bit muted when comparing it to the Hyatt in San Francisco. There are 3 elevators and 7 floors of rooms, so getting to your room isn't too bad. We've gone during Christmas and recently 4th of July. The hotel was much more crowded during July but it was still ok from an elevator perspective. The rooms are ok at best. The bathrooms need some serious renovations. The first room we had was a standard studio. This last room we had was a much larger room. It was still a studio, but the room was divided by the 52" tv which swivelled. One one side was the bed and desk while the other had a couch and footrests. Additionally it has a wetbar and fridge (empty). Even though the AC was running at full blast the entire time we were there, the room would get stuffy sometimes in the middle of the night. This is when I wasn't happy to have a larger room. Check in and check out is relatively painless. They have express checkout with a machine (but put it near the line to work with the front-desk -- a bit awkward) I'm more into a modern contemporary look, but old charm is what Savannah is all about and this hotel fits into that. read more

"Our Trip to Savannah" We were recommended this hotel by the fiance of one of my best friends from college. Being a Hyatt Platinum member, it took no effort to convince me. We made reservations on line; and, were sent reminders, an option for on-line check-in; and, options for special requests. At check-in, we were greeted with fresh, chilled water; and, everything as it should. I was greeted as a valued member of Hyatt's Gold Passport; and, as a Platinum member I was upgraded to a superior view of the river that was just awe inspiring. During our stay, on one particularly hot day, the concierge brought out ice pops for everyone in the lobby, to help them cool down. Valet parking was smooth and efficient; and, the valet service was well-appreciated after our long drive. The room was recently upgraded; and, meets all the new standards for a Hyatt Regency, with minimalist decor, a coffee maker; upgraded beds and linens, I did use the gym one morning, which is located just above River Street, with nice views. It was well laid out, with fresh towels; and, even moist towels for a quick cleanup. It had full facilities for showering, changing and the restroom. However, some of the equipment has started to show some wear from being exposed to the high humidity of the river... a quick wipe-down with some WD40 should take care of that! The best thing about this hotel is the location. Right on the Savannah River and walking distance to everything downtown... tons of restaurants, bars, historical sites and Savannah's famous parks. The hotel bar, the Vu, is also great location overlooking River St and the river... and the drinks are pretty good too. But take away the location and what your left with is a dated, tired, dingy 90's conference hotel. If you stay here, definitely stay in one of the rooms overlooking the river as that is the only real positives about the rooms. Otherwise the rooms are basic and dated. We stayed in a Jr suite and while the extra space in the room was nice, the bathroom was tiny, the couch was dumpy complete with stains. On a plus note, the beds was comfortable and the room was clean. Overall, I thought the room was pricey for what it offered. read more

Advertised a rate of $164 via Expedia as a pet friendly hotel. When booking there was no option for adding a pet (1 small dog). No problem I thought... Upon calling the front dest to inform them we had a pet, they informed me the pet fee was nonrefundable $150 for a 1 night stay. When canceling the reservation neither Hyatt nor Expedia would issue a credit. Last time I use either company. The most we have ever paid at a hotel was $35. We stayed here the end of February for a conference. Conference facilities were nice. The housekeeping did not come to the room daily until after 3 pm, and at that time we were usually in our room so we did not take advantage of housekeeping. I realized 2 days after checking out that I left a pair of tennis shoes in the closet. I contacted housekeeping and they said they were not found. I find that interesting as I know I had left them in the closet. Very disappointed as I don't know what happened with my pair of shoes that I left in the room. Also we were charged a daily parking fee even though we did not have a car to park at the hotel. We realized this after checking out and had to go back to the hotel to clear this up. read more

This hotel left much to be desired. The elevators were being worked on so they service was extremely slow and old. The room setup was uncomfortable. The bathroom is tiny and old, while the bedroom had a lot of wasted space. Beds are not too comfortable. Great location, close to restaurants, parks, clubs and little cute stores. Parking cost $24 but we parked in a parking close by for $10/day. Only later on we found out that that there is a VISITORS PARKING PASS!!! VISITOR DAYPASS - Visitors may purchase a two-day parking pass for $12, or a single day parking pass for $7 from the Savannah Visitors Center or the Mobility & Parking Services Department. However, there was also a very small gym, lots of "slammimg doors" noises from 8am and VERY HARD and UNCOMFORTABLE BED, PILLOWS. I could not sleep on my pillow for couple of hours and later, when I was woken up by slamming doors outside in a hallway, my shoulders and hips were hurting really bad. Then my husband woke up and said that his shoulders and arms hurt too. So I guess I wasn't the only one who thought the mattress was super hard and painful. After staying on Tybee Island 4th of July, 2010, we loved visiting Savannah. Now with kids in college, we wanted to stay in Savannah during a cooler, less hectic time. Wanting to be close to the historic downtown district, I spun the Priceline name your price wheel and got the Hyatt Regency. So, the price was very good. I had one of those "half-river" views, which look better at night with the bridge lit up. ALL the staff were very pleasant and eager to please. The concierge booked us a private horse/buggy tour where we were picked up at the front door...nice! We decided to eat light and dine on 2 for 1 apps at the Vu Lounge. The drinks and apps were very good and our waitress again friendly and attentive. The elevator right down to River St. was awesome to have available. Now, again, for the price I paid I'm not complaining, but the rooms as alluded to by other posters, are very tired and dated, like '80's dated. No refrigerator and no bathroom exhaust fan, and older lime crusted plumbing were noted. In their defense, they were renovating a couple of floors. Overall a good 4 night stay. But some of the classic housekeeping problems came up. My hair is short and mostly gray. So when I find long red hair in the bed it is not (generally) a good sign. The housekeeping was done early and I do appreciate that. The hotel catering was also generally good. the food was properly prepared and served and of high quality. Its a cookie-cutter, slightly dated large hotel in a place where there should be a much hipper place. But you will be fine there, its clean and meets your expectations. The rates are a bit high - with valet parking and taxes it was over $280/night. Room was slightly on the small side and the bathroom is so small that only one person can fit in it. Needed some basic TLC, paint, spot cleaning. The pool is an after thought, murky and small and kind of creepy. The lobby is the atrium type where rooms face out and their is a glass elevator. Another sign of its age. There is no restaurant serving dinner other than the bar, but that is probably a good thing since Savannah has plenty of dining choices. Our first night here was pretty miserable, we were in a room with a patio overlooking the elevators and we were kept awake by the dings of the elevator. After talking to the front desk staff we got moved to a beautiful city view room. Now we're loving our stay in Savannah! Bathroom finishes are beautiful and the staff has gone above and beyond. Per my experience and per my needs, this hotel met all expectations. I would highly recommend staying here. The rooms and hotel were clean and well maintained. The staff was friendly and accommodating. By far the best highlight was the location. Absolutely perfect spot to go out on foot and be able to explore Savannah! And the view, if you get a river view, is breathtaking. If you don't have that in mind, it's worth an upgrade! There's some reviews out there that (I believe) discuss that the Hyatt is an eyesore and shouldn't have been built... But it's here now and you may as well take advantage of it's convience of location, views, and friendly staff. Lastly, we only ate at the "Windows" restaurant one time for breakfast and I feel it was a bit over priced, and while it's better to go out and find some local fare, the breakfast bar was fantastic. 100% enjoyed my stay here and my stay in Savannah! read more

Hotel was clean & the lobby was nice. The staff was friendly and professional. The service was good. However, I called down for an extra blanket at about 930 and was told there were none available. hmmmmm. The two worst nights sleep I've ever gotten. The bed was hard as a rock. The pillows, I believe, were feather pillows, so they offered no support. What should have been a fitted sheet was a flat sheet which meant being tangled up in the sheets all night, Because the bottom sheet did not stay in place.. Also the room did not get cold enough during the night. I actually thought about trying to find another hotel for our second night stay in Savannah.....It also had a musky smell when we walked in the room & down the hall.....we had our Thanksgiving meal in the restaurant and it was EXCELLENT, so we decided to have breakfast there the next morning. Mistake. I got a waffle and it was actually crumbly.... hmmmm. We will not stay here again. They were very diligent about making sure everyone had on a mask. read more

I'll give a 4 due to the great location the Hyatt is in. You can walk anywhere downtown. It helps especially if you're having a long night of partying/drinking and don't feel like driving/ubering. You HAVE to valet. No matter what. Otherwise, you'll have to park on the street (which is tough to do btw). I believe overnight parking is 30 bucks per night. You will be given a blue tab when you valet. The actual blue tab for the valet people to see will be placed in front of your driving window. If you're like me and had to use your car once a day or so - just show the valet your blue tab and keep it.... only give it permanently to the valet once you're leaving. Service was fine. But I was kind of irritated that our room was not serviced. I understand we had the Do Not Disturb sign, but on my way out of the hotel, I told them to service it... came back home - nothing was done :( Room itself was great! Comfy and awesome. Very modern and up to date. Fun note: their TVs have Netflix installed, so you just log on with your info and watch. The elevators that go up to the floors are all see through - pretty neat. Major note: I think between 10pm - like 5am, you'll need your room pass for the elevators. read more

I think two stars is the best I can give here. I would love to give it more, but the fact that it so long in the tooth and so 80s, I just can't do it. The atrium is beautiful, but also very dated carpeting and fixtures. The rooms are comfortable, but again so dated! The paint is chipped in various spots, there's dust, and they just need a complete overhaul of this property. The price was right and it's right on the river so I got a river view which is good. However, I can't get past the fact that I feel like I'm partying like it's 1989. I was shocked upon check-in to find out that there was no bellman. Meaning to say we pulled up, the valet took out our bags, and he gave them to us, and we dragged them up the ramp. When I went inside, I asked the girl if there was a bellman. She said "oh yeah there's one right over there". I said "too late now"! I mean that was really strange for a Hyatt Regency right? Anyway like I said the bed is comfy, the TV is large, It has all the stations I want, an in-room safe, and refrigerator. It's very close to the Savannah historic District which is worth it's weight in gold really. However, Hyatt needs to redo this property and they cannot wait any longer. read more

The only reason I gave this hotel 2 stars was because of the location. At check-in, the gal was VERY rude. I let her know after the check-in process that the bad reviews I read were true. She replied with, 'Ok'. Believe the reviews! The hotel is worn out, staff is very unfriendly. Shower doesn't drain. Attempted to sit at an empty table in the outdoor bar area (which had no sign on it stating it was reserved) and as I went to sit, a big guy in a suit approached me and said we couldn't sit there and placed a reserved sign on the table. Not a big deal, but he was nasty about it. The bed is nice. The bathroom is about the size of a jewelry box. 2 ppl cannot be in it at once. Water pressure in the shower sucks. BED BUGS ON 5TH FLOOR Last weekend, my family stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Savannah for 3 nights. Early on the 3rd night, I noticed an insect crawling on the floor in the bathroom. I picked it up with toilet paper expecting to find that it's just some brown beetle, but some Google searching showed me that this is a bed bug. I captured it inside an empty water bottle and showed it to the assistant manager. That manager kindly changed our bed sheets and said he'd report the issue to the head manager the following morning. I explained repeatedly to both managers that my main concern was that my house could get infested when I take my suitcase and belongings home, but both managers refused several times to give me anything in writing acknowledging the bed bug I turned into them or promising to help me with any damages that I might incur as a result of their bed bugs. I never asked anyone for money or anything else, and Hyatt never offered me money or anything else. I just don't want to get stuck with paying for damages that Hyatt should be responsible for. Instead, the head manager told me that the issue was in the hands of their insurance company, which I believe means I will have to fight to get any compensation if I ever need any. He told me that Hyatt cares about its customers yet he was contradicting that by making me leave empty-handed with no guarantee that Hyatt will help me if their bed bugs spread into my house. They were quick, however, to hire a pest control company to inspect their hotel room after we checked out. That company confirmed that the insect I found was indeed a live bed bug, but they found no more evidence of bed bugs in that room. They said they'll inspect the nearby rooms soon. I guess that one of those rooms could be infested, which caused some of its bed bugs to spread out and look for a new room that has less competition. We left the hotel with all our belongings embarrassingly wrapped in black garbage bags to protect our van from the bed bugs. Once home, I spent several hours carefully unloading the van, inspecting and cleaning every item, while my daughter was inside the house crying because she couldn't be with her daddy. Thank you for that, Hyatt. In short, I found a bed bug in our hotel room and Hyatt gave us exactly nothing. Not even a promise to help us if their nasty bed bugs infest our home. DRUG PILL LEFT ON FLOOR After finding the bed bug, I searched the rest of our room to see how bad the situation was. I didn't find any more bed bugs but I did find a random yellow pill sitting on the carpet in the corner of the room, presumably left by a previous guest and not removed by the cleaning staff. Since I'm here with my family of 4, including 2 young babies, finding a random drug pill on the floor is alarming. If my babies had found that pill on the floor, they would have immediately and silently put it in their mouth. ------------- I wrote a much more detailed review and tried to copy/paste it here, but Yelp limits the word count, so here are the summaries. If Hyatt reads this and disagrees with anything, blame Yelp's limit: * Our room's toilet and shower area is in line of sight of the front door, so strangers in the hallway could see us clearly if someone enters/exits the door * Hotel elevator closes in your face too soon, annoys guests who have to wait for the next elevator * Elevator doors might allow you to hold open the outer doors while the elevator's inner doors continue to close, allowing you to fall down into the pit and die * Elevator to the valet area is too small to fit a baby stroller plus a luggage cart * Insufficient number of luggage carts so guests get angry and have to hunt for them * Luggage carts' top bar is too weak to hold a heavy bag * Hotel shower is unsanitary. Curtain rod positioned poorly so water pours down onto the bathroom floor where you'll step in it and have to dry the floor with your towel. * Room phone is not intuitive or labelled correctly. You may get a "junk message" from the hotel and no way to make the red lights stop flashing unless you know that you are supposed to dial "4747" to check your messages. * Two redundant sets of smoke detectors in the bedroom with red lights that flash all night * Black Lives Matter protests involving guns in the street outside the hotel's front doors * No police patrolling the tourist areas (or anywhere that I've seen) * Many unsettling groups of people hanging out on the sidewalks * Our first night, a homeless man entered a restaurant and came up to my family's table to start a conversation with us * Extreme crowds on river street force people to walk on the street with vehicle traffic * Many people not wearing masks in the tight crowds outside * Several restaurants have 45 minute waits, so you'll want to get reservations in advance * Many shops and restaurants have stairs and no ramps, so wheelchair and stroller users will struggle to enter and exit. read more

From the moment we entered this Hyatt Regency, something just seemed off. My family and I visited Savannah for a family reunion. We found something that was sort of midway for everyone. We had booked a whole lot of rooms together including a larger suite in order to have an area for socialization. I would say the pros, were our proximity to access the river walk and how walkable everything was from this hotel. My husband and I were able to walk to a lot of parks, restaurants, hotels, and bars as well as up and down the riverwalk. The little rooftop area on the fourth floor (don't quote me on the floor) was super cute as well. Some things I was not impressed by was the customer service. In my experience, if you are checking into a hotel early and there is a room available, the hotel will typically accommodate you at no extra cost. My husband and I were being upsold, told we can get a suite, a room with a view, etc. but each 'suggestion' would cost us more and more money. We then asked if we can have a regular king room, the one we had paid for. They insisted we pay an early check-in fee. If we did not, we could not check in until 4 pm. This to me was odd. You have a room that is available, what are you saving it for? Why can you not provide this accommodation as my family was already paying so much to stay at the hotel? Maybe I'm expecting too much, but I was not impressed by the upselling and customer service. In addition, you could hear everything happening outside of your room, including what was going on in adjoining rooms. I've stayed at many hotels and this has never really been an issue for me. Overall, I would probably choose to stay at an inn or a smaller hotel as they are sometimes more accommodating if I ever visit again. read more

Last night I head a situation late night with my daughter and i was looking for a hotel for her. I booked with Hotels.com a room for 129$. When she showed up at the hotel they told her that they never got the reservation even that I have a confirmation number they didn't want to accept it for some unknown reason. So they ask me if I want to pay by phone and without telling me the price they charge my AMEX 219$ . I called Hotels.com and they said that the hotel was refusing to approve the reservation . Very disappointed In this hotel. We paid quite a bit more for this hotel than other similar hotels were priced at. I assumed it was going to ensure a nicer stay, so we didn't mind the price difference at first. We requested a river view room with two double beds. When we got to our room, there was a king bed. I called to let them know about the issue, but they said there were no rooms available with double beds that were river view. Not a huge deal, and they told me they would comp both days of breakfast for the four of us, so I thought that was a nice thing to do The room was average. Needs updating for sure , which looks like they were in the middle of doing in the atrium anyways The buffet breakfast was good, better than most I was surprised at the reviews that mentioned quality service. Besides the luggage guys and Carolyn ( who made the omelettes at the restaurant), I found all the other staff pretty rude and unwelcoming. Last night, when my daughter went to the restroom around 2 am, she called me inside to show me a ROACH. This did it for me, as I have quite a fear and think this is unacceptable in a hotel. When we mentioned at checkout, the girl at the desk was unfazed and acted as if this was normal. This is a good pub! I don't much like reviewing hotels because it makes me sound like a snoob. And, I'm not a snoob! I prefer to stick with the restaurants. Suffice it to say, we loved the Hyatt's accommodation. I want to review the breakfast eatery. For twenty bucks each we headed down to the brekky restaurant overlooking the busy and delightful Savannah River and sundry old fashioned river boats. It's a great venue. A lovely woman sat us down, chatted and cared for us. In my book that's worth more than money. Another lovely woman came by for a chat and told us all about the food and the regime, and she brought us coffee. Good coffee..not the usual hotel breakfast swill, served with that awful non dairy whitener rubbish, instead of the wonderful cow juice that god invented for those of us who crave white coffee in the AM. So, in a distinctly non-snoobish way, we went to the buffet. Loads of good food was ready for us: Cereals, breads, baked goodies, sausages, grits (Y'all) biscuits, and so much more, including tailor made omelettes and waffles and little baby spuds in herbs and butter...and other stuff. And you could walk back for more...and back..and back And if you want to waddle your big fat bum back to the food, just to prove yer a pig; you can keep doing that until you burst your jeans. In Savannah for breakfast? Go to the ground floor restaurant in the Hyatt Regency. It's a perfect way to start the day in the wonderful, magical, history rich city that is Savannah. Everyone was polite, accommodating, and hospitable Beautiful and clean rooms Great location in historic savannah for walking Free wifi Nice amenities The bad: $30/day for parking Not good or bad: the hotel lobby is currently under renovations. This, however, was never noisy in our room and the traffic was well contained Overall we had a great stay. We were given a complimentary upgrade to the hospitality suite... it was a great space with huge couch and dining table, patio, and wet bar. The perks included free parking and free breakfast. The only catch-the bed is in the pullout couch. It's a great room for a party/get together. I would definitely recommend the Hyatt for families, couples, and business travelers. read more

I enjoyed my recent stay at the Hyatt. I love that there is an elevator right beside the entrance that puts you right out on River Street without risking those narrow stairways. There is no other hotel more conveniently located to all of the River Street attractions and restaurants. There is a bar and restaurant right inside the lobby. There is also a handy little store with assorted snacks and toiletries right beside the check in/out. The best find was the 4th floor garden terrace where there is plenty of seating to sit and watch the boats going up and down the river. The room itself was clean with an updated bathroom. However, I wouldn't stay longer than a weekend because that bed really killed my back. The pillows were awful. Nothing beats your own bed though so I'm really not going to knock them for that. We always stay at the hotel when attending the Georgia Emergency Management Conference in April. Located on the Savannah River near all the great eateries. The staff at this hotel always does a great job and will make you feel welcome. Valet parking is pricey. :(. An expense you can't avoid when driving in. Very modern and quiet. Suggestion to management. A fire element on the 4th floor patio would be a nice addition. (suggestion) Wifi was acceptable. read more

I came to Savannah for a weekend with friends and my boyfriend and I decided to extend our stay by one night. We had been staying in an AirBnB but I really was wanting the experiencing of a nice hotel right in the middle of all the excitement. I looked at a few hotels online Sunday morning and ultimately decided the Hyatt was the best choice. And boy was I RIGHT! I booked the hotel late morning on Sunday. By the time we had taken a stroll on River Street we decided to pop in and see how the parking situation was and when we could check in. Much to my surprise our room was already ready! Just a mere hour or two after booking. We had the mostly pleasant check in experience and opted to upgrade our room for a better view. The view was perfect and our room was top notch, not to mention affordable. We decided against valet parking because it was a Sunday night. Despite going off in our car a few times we were always able to find street parking nearby for free as it was Sunday. Later in the evening we realized we had at some point lost some of our personal hygiene items and the front desk provided some complimentary. The next morning we had to check out so early to get home in time for work, and even in the wee hours of the morning the staff was excellent. I will absolutely stay here every time I come to Savannah and will recommend to everyone who visits! read more

Stayed overnight while on the road and could not be more pleased. It is the perfect location for getting a quick but accurate taste of the city, located right on the water with plenty of shops, restaurants and hangouts a few steps away. I'm super picky about hotels after several less than great experiences. I did a lot of research on where to stay in Savannah before we arrived. I am so glad we chose to go with Hyatt. The staff was extremely accommodating before we even arrived and everything went smooth from the moment I checked in. We stayed in a king river view room which turned out to be my favorite part about our visit to Savannah (the view is amazing). The staff went above and beyond for us, even going to our room to look for my debit card I had accidentally thrown away. The location is better than any hotel in River Street. We were in and out a lot to return purchased items to our room and use the restroom. There are several elevators from the hotel that open directly on River Street. I will recommend this hotel to everyone and we will stay here each time we visit. Thank you Hyatt for making our trip enjoyable! read more
