In the quest for *reasonably* priced sushi we gave the very imaginatively named I Luv Sushi a shot... Underripe avocado is a huge sin in sushi, I typically will get an avocado roll alongside more traditional rolls and a few Americanized sauced up rolls. Avocado rolls pair nicely with soy sauce, are usually around 5 bucks, and help to satisfy my insatiable sushi appetite. Their avocado was hard and milly, basically unforgivable - if you're out of ripe avocado it's a much better policy to say you're out of avocado. Sushi rice was a bit soggy and bland, maybe a miss in their ratios of rice vinegar... who knows. Very reminiscent of convenience store sushi. Spicy tuna was great! Poor sushi rice be damned, they have a nice recipe which conveys a nice spice with good all around flavor. Crunch roll was decent, tempura shrimp with a gentle saucing of eel or teriyaki sauce. Atomic roll was fishy, other than the fishiness it had a nice flavor. On to the next one! read more

Came on a Friday night, kind of late so the place wasn't overly busy. Very few tables where we were given a choice to eat. Servers wear masks while patrons can take theirs off while seated. Overall experience was ok, service wasn't the best. Some of the sashimi was super good while some them still felt slightly frozen. I love this place. Once in a while I venture out and try another (usually because I'm meeting friends on another side of town), but nothing makes me as happy as I luv sushi. Brandon is great and imaginative. The food is fresh and super delicious. The service is friendly too. I really can't talk to the rolls, because I do not like to eat a lot of rice, but the sashimi is great and always beautifully decorated. I'm amazed at how often other sushi chefs forget to design the plate. Every time I get a plate, I take a moment to appreciate the effort that Brandon and the other chefs put in to the entire plate. One of my last visits, I came with a couple of friends and we shared the I Luv Sushi boat, and it was soo much food. They made each of us up a little to go plate for our lunches the next day. This place is alright. We got here around 4pm so it wasn't really dinner time yet. There was one lady working in the restaurant. She was the greeter, server and chef. Our food came out slow, probably because she was by herself. We ordered 2 sushi rolls each. My fiancé's came out first, so instead of waiting, I let him start eating while I eat the fresh shrimp roll. Sadly, the fresh shrimp roll was not very fresh. The wrap was chewy so that means it was pre-made. It was a big disappointment. After more minutes passed, 1 of my rolls finally came and I started eating. My fiancé had finished his food already and I finished my first sushi roll before my second roll came. The rolls weren't bad. The last roll was the poke roll which was too spicy for me. Usually I don't see chili sprinkled on spicy tuna roll, so that just made it too much so me. Ended up not eating it. By the end of our meal, 2 or 3 more staff arrived, which was good since 2 more tables got filled. I don't think I'd come back here. Service was too slow even though they were nice. Asked for no onions on my Mongolian beef, got a ton of them instead, gyoza smelled bad and tasted like rubber, sushi was okay, placed the order online just to get a call from the lady asking why no tip was included and if we were going to tip, and said since we were a few miles out of the delivery zone we had to pay 5$ additional for delivery. Very pleased with my experience here. I've been to both locations and have enjoyed their sushi. Sashimi, sushi and rolls are all fresh and delicious. Many of the rolls are like ones found in other restaurants but with a different name. I enjoyed my calamari salad and spicy tuna salmon roll. I tried my friend's Wow Roll and liked the spicy tuna top paired with avocado, smoked salmon and toasty tempura outside. Be sure to get a cup of their tea! It's delicious. I have enjoyed eating at I Luv Sushi during my summers in Anchorage for the past 10 years. I had lunch there last week and today. I ordered the exact same lunch special D on the menu . Last week it was $15, this week $16. That's okay with price going up. when I went to pay they would not let me pay by card because it was under $20. I have a small business also, I pay the card fees its part of doing business. They have sadly lost a weekly customer over this. Foods amazing, bring cash if you plan on eating by yourself. read more

At 4:07 Pm I received a message from my DoorDash driver that the restaurant closed their DoorDash orders at 4:00pm and they would not make my order. Their hours show from 11am till 10pm. I called the restaurant and I was given an excuse saying that their chef didn't come in till 4pm and now they couldn't see my DoorDash order and wouldn't make it for me. read more

I LOVE, I Luv Sushi! Again, these strip mall restaurants are impressing me more everyday! The sushi is great and the variety of rolls is impressive. I'd like to try every roll one day but I can barely finish 2 rolls in one sitting and leftover sushi from anywhere is not my favorite. So don't over order and enjoy your first couple rolls before you go crazy and order a ton of variety. Law of diminishing returns is a real thing. The staff is friendly, I've never seen this place completely full but it does get busy. Their take out option is good too and they're quick with the order. read more

I use to love this place! Today walked in on Christmas Eve, Eve with my husband. The lady glared at us both. We asked for a table she pointed and walked away. We sat at the table for 15 mins had to ask for our menus. She glared again. At this point another couple male and female walked in. They got seated with a smile and menus in hand. We're now up to 20 mins. The same rude lady is giving them water and taking there order. We still have not been greeted or gotten water so we stand up and start to head out. They tried to stop us. This other straight couple had only been sitting for 3-5 mins. This is not the way you treat anyone! My husband is a first responder and felt like we were being targeted. The layout of the restaurant is okay and it is nice inside. However, dear restaurant. I know you need to get your food inside, however, use a back door maybe? Or before you open. Because I froze my arse off at the sushi bar as you toted in about six carts full of food leaving that front door open when the temperature was 1 degree outside. It made my meal very uncomfortable. My first time to this restaurant, my wife is a frequent patron. The restaurant is larger than I expected, being in a strip mall but occupying 2 suites. Wasn't crowded by the tables as some places are. Very comfortable atmosphere. Service is prompt, friendly and attentive. The food was great. I had the shrimp pad Thai, my wife had beef and broccoli. We split a shrimp fried rice. Large portions on all three, had to get to go boxes. My Pad Thai was great, definitely will reorder in the future. My wife's beef & broccoli was good too, she shared a sliver of beef. I'm glad my wife suggested going here and we'll definitely be back. read more

Usually I dine in, and order the Waikiki Roll & Cowboy Sushi Roll. Expect to be in the restaurant for 2 hours due to slow service. I have a sprained ankle. Yesterday, I had a heavy heart, and there was no way I was going to make it out of the house. I was craving sushi, so I placed an order online. Bad decisions were made to try something new. I ordered the I Luv Sushi Roll & the Broccoli beef. I was starving, and expecting my food to be here at any minute because it had been an hour. I received a call that the delivery fee was $2 more because I live more than 4 miles away. They have to refund the transaction and rerun my card. Okay whatever. Just bring me my food! An hour and a half after I had placed my order, I began to wonder if it was even coming. However, the doorbell rang and the delivery man saved the day! Or, so I thought. The sushi was flavorless, the Broccoli Beef was cold. I should have just stuck with my usual. I was just having a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. Since I was in no mental health condition to complain over the phone, I left I Luv Sushi an FB message. I waited for a response before Yelping a review. Their dessert rocks my socks! My bestie and I have been on a hunt for the best sushi in Anchorage. We've been here four times now, so I guess I can say we've found it. Consistent service, attentive without being overbearing, and even a freebie now and then. Tonight we went for dinner and had some appetizers, two rolls, soup and salad and dessert. I walked away feeling fabulous. Pros: the rolls are nicely presented and easy to eat (not too big or floppy!) Service is on point. Atmosphere is enjoyable, not too quiet- you can have a conversation without feeling like everyone can hear you, and not too loud- you can actually hear the people across the table. We got some free cinnamon tea after our meal and although I'm not a big fan, it was tasty. The menu is diverse without being overwhelming. Cons: The parking lot is very tight, and has been full every time we've been in. Since it's usually winter here... the spots get packed in, you can't see the lines, and Quiznos (down the way) has several spots marked for their customers only. Be prepared to walk. The salad dressing is too citrus-y for my taste, but that's a personal preference. It was definitely worth the price (including the $10 dessert) read more

It's A-OK, but I probably won't return. Decent staff and a well rounded menu (even had a pho option), but I have never been wowed by this restaurant. First time I came in and had a sushi roll, but eh not too exciting. Second time (6 years later) I tried the tempura combo with chicken teriyaki and a crunch roll. I think I have been spoiled by Sushi Ya prices or Yakitori Sushi house for freshest fish. It's a long standing restaurant, but it's just not for me. read more

It is one of the better restaurants to eat at if you want authentic sushi made fresh. The tonkatsu is also good. It's a little pricey but you get authentic Japanese food. The workers are friendly and attentive. If you want sushi done a certain way they are very accommodating. One of the only restaurants I like in Anchorage. Decided to try this place on a whim. It is nice looking from the outside, and very cute inside as well. Service is slow, and the food is nothing remarkable. I had a california hand roll, a dragon roll, and the accompanying salad. It was all just average tasting and very slow service. When I went in I was ravenously hungry and in desperate need of some quick food! I thought I was going to expire before it arrived. When it did arrive, it was quite dissapointing, butI was just to hungry to not finish it. I won't be going back. I've talked to several friends and they all say the same. It's been awhile since I've been here, so I was surprised to see how much they had expanded into the neighboring space, and updated the decor. Very nice and open, with a nice-sized stage for live music. It wasn't very crowded when I went with a friend, but we heard that they had a happy hour from 4-6. We weren't sure about it, but were pleased that they indeed have half-priced rolls. Naturally, they're not going to be as big as a normal-priced roll, but there's still plenty to eat. The waitress was pretty distracted talking on the phone when she seated us, which was kind of ehh, but afterward she was very nice and pleasant. Only thing is that delicious cinnamon-ginger tea I raved about before now costs $3.50 (!!!!!) a mug, and it gets cold really fast. :( Only real downside. Either way, this is a pretty awesome place, and one of the few places that still have a happy hour. It's Mondays through Thursdays from 4-6pm. I have a feeling I'll be making more visits here, even though it's quite out of my way. read more
