I've been to Ibiza twice in the past few months. The first time I went I had a really good experience. Great wine and tapas. The second time was a disaster.. It seemed extremely busy and they were understaffed. if the servers could have been a little nicer I wouldn't bother leaving a bad review but they were rude. Drinks took 45+minutes, we got one tapa within 15 and the others 30 mins later. I am in no rush to return. read more

This place should be great. The food is really good. The menu is well balanced and everything is well prepared. The ingredients are fresh and good quality. However the service is really poor. We came on a busy Friday night after the dinner rush and there were only two waitresses. People had been waiting up to an hour for food. All the tables around us had missing dishes and trying to get a drink was nearly impossible. I am probably being kind going with three stars, it was that bad. If you love tapas, this is the place to be if you are in the New Haven area. This Ibiza Im reviewing is located in Hamden. There is another Ibiza in New Haven. Different owners. The food is DELICIOUS!!! and the selection is amazing! so many different dishes to chose from so come hungry... We had a party of 4 on a Friday night a couple of weeks ago. We ordered at least 15 dishes and the bill was reasonable! The owner always stopped by to make sure we loved our food. He offered to take anything back if we didnt like it! Plenty of parking in the back and a patio in front which is great for dinner in warmer months. Staff was very friendly, quick to clean our table and remove emply plates. Writing this from my experience over a summer. Went for dinner, waitress and manager lied about checking on dairy free options after I asked for confirmation on ingredients due to a dietary issue - long story short, both waitress and manager deliberately lied to me regarding my meal which I consumed...that is a huge liability. Apparently they confirmed this with the chef - which proved to be a lie. The manager was unapologetic, argumentative and abrasive after pointing out that they had included the ingredient upon consumption. (They confirmed that they made a mistake - but no apology) Just thinking about the potential for harm to someone with a severe allergy made me want to follow up with this review to warn other people. Despite the fact that I have shared my experience with others I thought it best to warn yelpers. The worst part was the response from management. Thought I was on a reality show - that's how shocking and unprofessional this place is. I should have filed a complaint with DOH at the time to avoid future harm to others. Accidental neglect is one thing - but neglect by a restaurant to properly inform and lie to patrons regarding common allergy based ingredients is unacceptable. read more

The best reason to take a drive down Dixwell. The goat cheese and fig toast is a lesson in how to prepare food with truffle oil--present, but not overpowering. The division of the menu into "traditional" and "modern" tapas provides an intriguing way to structure your meal. The food was mediocre. The patatas were not cooked through and seemed to have a Velveeta like cheese on them. The pork tapas were chewy. Asked for a recommendation for a robust Spanish wine and was brought a bottle of California Beaujolais... Service a bit annoying--constantly topped up water glasses and wine glasses. And how silly not offer espresso, or any coffee at all! The waitress told us it's because the owner wants to make sure and "move tables." How odd considering the word "cafe" is emblazoned on the side of the building. Love Ibiza in New Haven. Overall, very disappointing night. Went to Ibiza last Friday because of a Living Social coupon. Food was good, but service was terrible. At first it was fine because the restaurant was not busy. However, as business picked up, the service declined. Waiters tried to take our plates before we were finished (more than once during the meal) and then at the end of our meal within seconds of finishing dessert, the hostess rudely asked us to leave because there were people waiting to be seated. It was appalling and we will never return to this restaurant after being treated so poorly. read more

Disappointed in the service Saturday night. I thought the food was good, but something just didn't connect with the service...we waited too long just to be asked what we wanted to drink and it was downhill from there. We were double charged for items, but could barely see the charges on the bill because the printer was out of ink and the lights kept flickering all night, so they were no help either. I've been there many times before, but I feel as though Ibiza needs to get back on the road to success. read more

This is hands down the best tapas place in the area! The food explodes with flavor yet isn't overpowering. A few favorites are pepito de filete, croquetas de bacalao, any squid dish, and of course the paella negra! The paella normally takes up to 40 minutes and they do usually warn you of that so order in the beginning if you don't like to space out your dinner! It's definitely worth the wait. I've been going here with my family for 3 years now and every special occasion we celebrate here. The space is cozy and warm. I've been here twice now, once for a party with a decent sized group, and again for dinner. Ibiza makes some really great cuisine, and the small portions are really great for sharing and getting to try many of the awesome menu items. The service is quick and friendly, and the course of the meal is timed well so your table is never bare nor overflowing with food. Plenty of Spanish and other wines are available, and all of the signature cocktails that I've tried have been great - Domain de Canton, a ginger liquor which I was previously unfamiliar with, graces several drinks on this list, adding a warm spice to your whiskey, pisco, etc. The dinner night was great, but the party night was a ton of fun. The servers kept the wine flowing like water and consistently cycled plates with different tapas, bringing out additional servings of the popular choices on demand. We love Spanish food and used to love this restaurant, and was excited to go out to Ibiza with friends for Hamden Restaurant week yesterday. The quality of food AND experience has definitely gone downhill. The food was simply mediocre ( like "crispy noodles" large tapa was a bowl of soggy egg noodles in a sauce, really?!) , service - the same ( took over an hour despite semi-empty restaurant, waiter forgot one of the items altogether...you get the idea). NOT worth the price, even the restaurant week "deal" price, so we won't be coming back read more

Second time here after a lovely first dinner. Like the funky vibe of the place and there are some very notable dishes worth traveling here for. We were the "late table" and seated a little after 9 pm on a Friday. Service was pleasant initially, but as it got later, our fifth and last main course dish was cleared and there was the check! This was one of my favorite restaurants to go to in the New Haven area. I always liked that it was not downtown, that the food was terrific, and that the prices were reasonable. I'm a vegetarian (altho I do eat fish) and can always find plenty to enjoy. However, I now give it 4 stars rather than 5 because I agree with those who complain about the service. This has gone downhill over the last year -- including the pressure to ordering everything at once. Tapas are supposed to be leisurely, but they have started serving them very quickly and everything feels rushed. No longer a pleasant dining experience. Too bad. I love Ibiza! I have been going since they opened and I never been disappointed. Every dish I have tried I've liked even if it didn't sound like something that I would. The chefs here really know what they're doing. The drinks are very good and they do have a large selection of wine as well. Some of my favorites dishes are the grilled pork loin over toast, the braised short ribs are the best and I always have to get the potato and onion omelet. Surprisingly good was the anchovies on toast. I ordered it once and it was good...if you like anchovies. :) I would definitely recommend visiting this place. It's definitely good to have a small group to share the appetizers...also gives you an excuse to order and try more! read more

Dined last night 10/16 with my BF to celebrate my birthday. I selected ITRWB based upon previous dining experiences at owner Ignacio Blanco's other restaurants- Ibiza & Pika Tapas in New Haven and the former Meson Galicia in Norwalk. Our experience was similar to Sandra W. I ordered the Costilla and Lubina (short ribs and sea bass). The short ribs were the disappointment of the two. Tasting like post roast and not served as described with smokey bacon potatos puree, but with a mound of ordinary mashed potatoes and very little sauce under the potatoes. My BF selected the garlic shrimp and the garlic chicken and both were OK except the garlic shrimp was the smallest tapas portion I have ever seen. You get more at Bistro Basque in Milford. For dessert we ordered the almond tart- lackluster with no almond flavor and the chocolate croquettes which were stellar! Also disapointing no coffee served! Lacking the expense account budget of a professional critic I would not return. read more

Normally, I never feel the need to do this but since I found this to be so funny after I finished off my third bottle of wine- I thought I'd share. The food was really awesome, actually. My favorite was probably the chorizo and fig wrapped in bacon. We also had a shrimp dish, a seafood and rice stuffed pepper and lastly a "Spanish" cheese plate. The last part there is why I'm writing this review. There were three cheeses on the plate. The first two were good- looked totes legit but THEN there was this third mystery cheese. Flat, white and shiny. Sound familiar? EXACTLY! That's because it was a piece of American cheese. Not the deli kind but the one that comes in a giant foot long packaged pre-sliced. Maybe mom would slap that little rubber ducky right on your Bologna sammie when you were just a kid. Anyway, it's not like I complained or anything. Honestly, I don't really care about the cheese. The waiter was really nice and the wine had me sold long before the cheese plate walked over to the table and introduced itself. I just haven't been able to stop thinking about it though. Did they run out? What happened to that third cheese? More importantly, if you've ordered this plate, were you one of the ones saying things like mmm so good to this little piece of white flop on your plate? If you were, that is so so so funny. I just happened to notice right away because I'm not blind. If you have any kind of eye problem..I mean, hey, we've all had a piece now and again. Anyway guys, good food. Really enjoyed it. Don't get the American cheese on a Spanish plate thing but it's worth another shot. Have a great day. read more

If you want to relax and enjoy your meal DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!! If you are looking for a great meal and are in an extreme hurry this is the place to go. My husband took me here for my birthday dinner, Food was excellent, BUT, they would not let you order a few tapas sit and enjoy them then order a few more. We were told we had to order all our tapas at once the manager even came over to our table to instruct us on how it is done here.She actually told us they need to turn over the tables. They even took our menus away. We were told if we wanted them back we would have to ask for them again. At one point we had 4 plates of tapas at the table. Needless to say at least one was COLD by the time we were able to get to it. We ordered a drink at the bar, had 7 tapas, a glass of wine and dessert and were out of the restaurant in 40+ min!!!!!!!!!!! It's a shame all they care about is table turn over because the food was excellent just a shame we could relax and enjoy it. Imagine expecting to relax and enjoy your b'day dinner and be pushed out the door within 45 min. shame shame!!! read more

Fantastic every time I go! I have brought almost everyone friend and family member here and no one has ever not enjoyed it. I am not sure about some of the negative reviews since I have never had these issues. I had a part of 15 and they split the bill for us, I almost always get there before my friends as I live close by and I have always been given a table before they arrive, even on the patio. The service is always prompt but they will slow down food delivery if you ask. They have even given our parties complimentary bottles of wine on special occassions. They do switch up the menu and have even made us dishes not currently on the menu that we fell in love with on a previous menu. The manager, Laura, is always friendly and gracious even if some other reviewers do not approve of her attire. I cannot say enough great things about the staff or the food. This is one time I would say ignore the reviews and be your own judge! read more

My girlfriend and I went to Ibiza Tapas last night for the first time. We were both very disappointed with the service. The food and wine was very good, but service was awful. Upon arriving, the one waitress, gave us direction on where to sit. She brought the menus over and explained it was restaurant week. We decided not to go with the special menu for restaurant week. We both ordered a glass of wine and the waitress brought it over in a timely manner. After ordering, we were brought our food by someone who works in the kitchen i assumed. At that point we had less than a half a glass of wine each left. The waitress did not come by even once during the time we were eating. We were left with empty glasses which was a true disappointment. Finally, after 10-15 mins of waiting with empty plates and glasses the waitress made her way over and asked if we were done. We asked for more wine and after what seemed like forever it finally made it's way to us. So we drank and decided we should just get the check and go. We both would have probably drank another glass of wine had the waitress been more attentive. It was a Tuesday night, not very crowded. We both were quite disappointed seeing how we had been looking forward to going. Most likely we will not be going back to Ibiza Tapas Restaurant again. I will certainly find another tapas restaurant nearby. read more
