Why the hate? Let me get it out of the way that the people I encountered who works here were nice. One of them even asked if it was our first time there and explained everything to us. That is not the issue here, but rather these things: - 48 cents an ounce adds up real quick with extra toppings and sauces. They nickel and dime you to death. Compare their pricing system to similar places in the Bay Area, LA and even Vegas where there's a set price for Small, Medium and Large and you'll feel gypped here. The quantity you're getting here is not worth the price in weight pound for pound. Or is that Lbs. for Lbs.? - Flavor, or lack of it. I had the Coconut special and Wifey had a combo of Black Sesame and Lychee. My coconut was described as "Toasted" and it was far from it. The only hint of coconut flavor I was tasting was from the toasted coconut flakes topping. To say it was mild is putting it mildly. I tasted the Wifey's and the Black Sesame tasted like charcoal and the Lychee was similar to Durian, but tasted more like artificial flavor. - Quality of the toppings are inconsistent. My order came with coconut jelly, toasted coconut flakes, bananas topped with cherry. The jelly turned into a consistency of plastic after chewing on it for a few times. I had to spit it out as it turned rubbery and inedible after a few bites that turned into a choking hazard. However, some of the jelly just melted away while others became a textural challenge. Wifey's mochi topping left a nasty and bitter aftertaste that lingered for a while. And you can guess she didn't finish her order. If the flavor and quality were there, I would justify the price they charge; however, all were lacking and I couldn't get over the fact that I was carrying something so light and was charged over 5 bucks for basically air. read more

I am completely obsessed with this place! I was the first person to fill out the repeat customer stamp card. I was also the second customer at Iceskimo's soft opening. You need to just trust me and pay a visit to Iceskimo's beautiful new brick and mortar. Once you see the bright blue walls, you know a small pocket of dessert heaven is waiting for you inside. The new Iceskimo is different from the pop-up shop at Pangea Bakery. It's better! Now you get to choose what size bowl you want - regular or large (popup size was large), choose your snow flavor, and then put on whichever toppings you want. You pay by weight. There's an assortment of toppings to choose from - very similar to Yogurtland. I was really happy to see almond jello as a topping. Hopefully sweet taro and pudding will make an appearance in the future, too. The shop is so vibrant. I love the bright colors, the clean lines, white tables, and soft Iceskimo blue chairs. I just went with the most popular flavor, which was the original milk. You have the option of adding condensed milk on top and I highly recommend opting in for the condensed milk. Let me start off by saying that the name of this place is so cute and clever! It's clever and the little logo is adorable. "Iceskimo" reflects the place perfectly. The concept of it is similar to that of froyo where you pay by the ounce, $0.48 to be specific. That's a little pricey. Not to mention, there are preset shaved snow dessert options (shaved snow plus toppings already chosen), and yet you still have to pay by the ounce. Also, you get to put on your own toppings! Honestly, I don't mind because I felt as if the shaved snow was worth every penny. The "small" size cup of shaved snow is so huge that I shared it with my sister and her boyfriend (but we had dinner prior to this)... I still think the small is capable of feeding at least two people. So when I went, I chose matcha green tea shaved snow with the following toppings: mochi, crushed Oreos, cheesecake bits, strawberries, boba, and condensed milk. It all paired really well actually. If you've never had shaved snow, I think it's comparable to shaved ice the most. It's a mixture of shaved ice and snow/slush at a boba spot. You scoop it, and it melts right in your mouth. The two females working were really helpful and nice. Since it was our first time, we were pretty confused, so they explained how it worked to clarify. They were also laughing at/with us (in a friendly way) because we were so indecisive. Iceskimo has a very cute interior, but there is limited spacing. Came here on a Saturday night with my family to check out the breads at Pangea, and saw Iceskimo on the side! I love shaved snow! But after going to Taiwan and trying the real, "authentic" shaved snow, anything in the states is hard to compare. The menu was short and sweet with signature shaved snows (original snow, matcha green tea, strawberry snow, oolong milk tea, black sesame, traditional with toppings) and a few other drinks and snacks. I ordered the "Cookie Monster": black sesame snow, fresh strawberries, crushed Oreos and condensed milk. Pros: -service is good! Friendly and relaxing servers. They also came to your table to serve you, instead of calling you up. -portion size (shaved snow amount) is good! One portion can be easily shared between two people! -price is good! $4.75 for a bowl. Cons: -I was a little disappointed the black sesame flavor was not strong enough. It seriously tasted like I was eating clumps of snow. -condensed milk was also minimal. It was only scarcely layered on top so nothing on the bottom was "touched" by the condense milk. -I'm a huge advocate of toppings on my shaved snow. Strawberries and Oreos are such cheap items, I'm sure you can afford to scoop another spoonful or two...after three people digs into the top, there is nothing left to eat with the rest of the snow. I guess the ratio between everything is off? Overall, I wouldn't come here again unless there was some discount or if changes were made. I hadn't been back here in a long while but we wanted drinks from someplace different so we came in after dinner recently. I always liked their shaved ice but after this last visit I will definitely be back to try more of their drink menu. We ordered the Ube Hot Chocolate and the Iced Tiger Milk tea and both were fantastic. The ube hot chocolate had a great creamy texture and the flavor of the ube with the chocolate was a wonderful combination. The tiger milk contained great quality milk that when mixed with the brown sugar created a great flavor profile with a lot of depth. Iceskimo is this little shaved ice place tucked in the plaza with that really popular rotating sushi place that opened up recently (Kula Rotating Sushi Bar, I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong. It also has Dumpling Inn, which is delicious~!). ANYWAYS- back to Iceskimo. This place is pretty legit in terms of Taiwanese styled shaved ice. What they do is take this block of their own, organic flavors (such as black sesame, lychee, and matcha!), shave it down in this very unique manner (always ask for condensed milk in between the sheets of ice), and then hand it to you to personalize (or help you do put in fillings if it's one of their pre-made specials!) If you do personalize it, I HIGHLY suggest the almond jelly because its milky, refreshing, and fairly unique in terms of the other frozen yogurt places that I've tried out before. Also, another good idea is to add additional condensed milk at the top! It helps the unique 'dry' feel of the ice when you first try it. I would have to say, even the small size is a lot to finish. Imagine it like this- if you and your friend ate dinner already somewhere in the plaza, you would probably want to share a small (or a large size if you are hungry still? LOL). One nice thing about this place is that its pretty good if you are gluten free (they have some gluten free ices). As for lactose-free- I'm not too sure. ASK FOR A REWARD CARD if you are hooked! Iceskimo is serving up shaved milk ice, which to me is one step up from your regular shaved ice, since the flavor is already in the silky, icy concoction. You pay by the ounce here, but as a trade off you get to add as many different toppings as you like. We tried a small black sesame and added red beans, mochi and condensed milk. My biggest pet peeve about shaved ice places is that they skimp on condensed milk, but here you control how much you put so I was very happy. All in all, it was about $5.50 for our creation which was more than enough for two of us to split after lunch. While I wouldn't make a special trip out here or wait in line, it was a good place to drop by after eating lunch across the street. read more

We're really indecisive, but we finally decided to split the large Bruce Lychee which had lychee snow, mango poppers, some jelly that I couldn't taste because overpowered by the lychee snow, and optional condensed milk, which I highly recommend. I still like Fluff Ice a little better because the texture of the snow here was different. It wasn't as "fluffy" and there also weren't as many options. However, I'm excited that there's finally one that's not a gazillion miles away and I can't wait to go back and try out all the flavours! PROTIP: Don't forget to get a stamp card! I ordered the taro/ube which didn't really taste much like taro at all, but I actually wasn't paying much attention to the flavor of my shave snow as much as I was impressed with how well the young lady who was working alone was able to manage all of the customers on her own. Even though she was busy and overwhelmed, she kept calm and was able to get everyone their orders in a timely fashion. I hope her boss recognizes her hard work. When I heard that there's a shaved snow place that just opened on Convoy, I honestly didn't think much about it. As a girl from the 626, I have very high expectation for shaved snow. I have to say, this place definitely met my expectation and more! Friends decided to come here after we had KBBQ, the place is opened in the corner of the plaza, very bright and eye catching. The interior is a bit small, but they definitely took advantage of the space. The servers were very helpful and friendly (+1), my friend who's lactose intolerant, was offered to try their soon-to-be-special dairy free shaved snow, which was very thoughtful of them. I got the Cookie Monster because I have a secret obsession of Oreo cookie crumbles. They made it right at the spot with fresh toppings and were very generous with condensed milk (+1). I also got to try other items on the menu, they were all very creative and well-made, and I cannot wait to come back and try again. Almost good as ice cream especially if you like condensed milk. Ordered Coconut Paradise and it was a good choice. I wanted lychee but didn't want nothing but. It also came with banana, toasted coconut and I added chocolate bits. I enjoyed it. We ate outside on furniture tied down with cable. The people were chatting about their day and the treats they had which is a good sign. I got a Tiger Soft Serve and while it was over the top on sweetness, the flavors were good. I've been to almost every dessert/sweets spot on Convoy, and Iceskimo is definitely in the top 3. Iceskimo is perfect for any group because of the variety of flavors and toppings for anyone. My favorite is the jasmine milk tea flavored snow, with an array of fresh fruit. No complaints here, it's an affordable dessert, great date spot as well, and easy to share! Tip: parking!! As usual convoy is a little hard to park around so anticipate it being hard to find a parking spot, or park a little farther. read more

One of the best places for shaved snow in SD :) There are pre-made combos for you to order if you don't know where to begin, but you can also choose your own flavor of shaved snow and add your own toppings. Think of it like Yogurtland, but with shaved snow. I love the lychee flavor- it's really refreshing. It's close to Kula sushi so you can go there to get dessert after dinner. The only thing I can complain about is that the parking lot is really small and crowded. read more
