I hate that I know about this place bc it's my new addiction. I usually grab two when I'm there, one to eat now and one to eat later my absolute favorite is the black sesame walnut dessert. The texture is so light and creamy so it feels like eating healthy ice cream. You can order at the counter but there's also a convenient kiosk if you already know what you want. Only downside is that when I initially looked at the nutrition facts I was like "oh, it's 165 calories for this dessert! Nice" but if you look at it more closely it says the there's 3 servings in a container. Okay, no way there's 3 servings in that jar read more

If you've never been you must try! Rio the shift lead and Harris took care of us. It was our first time at this location. Our previous trip was at an LA location where the service was lacking. Rio and Harris were understanding of the importance of great customer service and they more than made up for the lacking at the LA location. The kindness we experienced here today in comparison was like night and day. Rio shared some samples of the coconut base where was super tasty. The pudding was light and easy to eat. All Asians like desserts that aren't too sweet and this wasn't too sweet. A promotion was going on for spending $20 and getting the 3rd one half off. They have so many yummy options we picked mango, durian and banana Nutella. Rio opened up a container of the mango to show us how ripe the mango coconut pudding was. My kid picked that because what's better than juicy ripe mango? The answer is durian. Durian cannot be eaten at the store, there was a sign by the display. This was such a refreshing dessert for the abnormally hot weather we've been having. Right after I got home, I dug right into the durian coconut pudding. On the bottom were big pieces of creamy sweet ripe durian. The aroma perfumed my entire home. Each dessert comes with this cute reusable glass container and a lid. I've been reusing them for chia puddings, overnight oats, salad dressings, spice mixes...etc. I saw on their website that we can return 10 clean containers for one free Jasmine coconut pudding! The quality of the contents is great! Our experience was odd because we ordered on their kiosk then were basically forgotten about. We gave them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they needed to make/assemble the order. After 10-15 minutes I asked them how long it generally takes. They asked if XYZ was my order and pulled it from the case where it was already prepped and sitting from before we arrived (so they saw it but didn't complete it during that time). Having a store dedicated to coconut jelly is different. I purchased the mango coconut jelly and sesame coconut jelly. The mango jelly came with fresh fruit. The sesame coconut jelly had a couple of walnuts and a black nutty sesame paste. Both were light, not overly sweet and refreshing. I preferred the mango coconut since the flavor was more balanced. These desserts are costly partly due to the packaging (glass containers that are reusable) and prime space and location in the UTC mall. The store is small, airy, bright and welcoming. I enjoy the mango coconut -- fresh, not too sweet, and clean-tasting. The yogurt itself is super light and smooth, almost tastes like a crossover between yogurt and the Asian soft tofu dessert. If you like delicate textures rather than thick or tangy yogurt, this will be right up your alley. They also have a bunch of options and toppings to choose from. Both were equally delicious .The Mango Purée Coconut was like coconut puddling with chunks of sweet mango . And the Mango River was all mango chucks , puree with sago. It's $9.99 each, not cheap but they are in glass containers that you can reuse and repurpose. They also packaged them to go nicely in the resealable red bag. MeloMelo is SO good and SO refreshing. If you love coconut it's a must try. They make many different flavors but if you want the coconut flavor to stand out, the double coconut is the best option. The other flavors tend to overpower the natural taste of the coconut milk and coconut jelly. Was looking for a replacement to the Hui Lau Shan which closed in Kearny Mesa last year. They still have one in Irvine but too far of a drive. Unfortunately the coconut mousse/cream was a miss. Love going to Melo Melo when we are at UTC. There is usually a line, sometimes longer than others, but the staff is awesome and the wait is never too long. The store is very bright, open, and welcoming inside as well. There are plenty of options from the plain coconut to various toppings. I think my favorite has been just the plain and simple coconut melo melo and the coffee melo melo. My daughter loves the options with the fresh fruit (strawberries or dragon fruit usually are her go to if not plain). They are all so light and refreshing and you feel like you are eating something indulgent yet not too bad for you if that makes sense. They have three sizes in most, single, double, and triple. Prices range but I believe they are all under $10 and they are packed in these awesome glass mason jars (which are great for reuse at home). read more

It was so soft and jiggly - the slurp was almost like a gulp/sip. BANANA NUTELLA COCONUT ($12.99) - milk, coconut milk, coconut water, Nutella, banana. OK, this was the one that truly spun my heart. I love banana flavored things and so I had to have this one. And best paired with Nutella! Let me say, the banana is not a typical Chiquita banana... it's more like the saba bananas (or plantains). The texture is cooked down almost to mush but still keeping a little bit of shape. Now imagine the combination of silky creamy slurpable coconut jelly, Nutella, and that banana all in a small jar of heavily goodness. I think MeloMelo has the best tasting & best textured coconut jelly that I've ever tried. It's super silky, smooth, and light so it's a great refreshing dessert to have when you want something sweet but not too heavy. They offer a huge variety of flavors with fresh ingredients. The only reason I can't give it 5 stars is because of how expensive each little jar is. The regular sized jars are $11 or $14 depending on the toppings, and the small jar is $10 (you may as well get the larger size). You do get to keep the nice glass jars and re-purpose them for other things, and the to go packaging is really nice (ready for gift giving). I will still swing by on occasion, but this is definitely more like a special treat than a go to dessert spot. read more

We took our coconut jelly to go and they packaged them in these adorable durable containers. Can definitely repurpose the jars. The price is a little on the higher side (~$13) but might be due to the glass containers. I got the pistachio rose and it was 5/5. Very flavorful and a good balance without the rose overpowering the coconut jelly. I would appreciate more pistachio flavoring though. My friend got the dragonfruit and it was 4/5. I tried the double coconut and strawberry. It was both really good. It was like $10 a pop, so it is on a slightly expensive side. So I kept it in my fridge and I was taking a bite after every meal for next 3 days. It does say on the lid, it don't contain no preservatives so I should eat it asap. I was so excited to try this place!! This is located right by Shake shack in UTC! The closest parking would be where the gym is located. We got the rose pistachio which was AMAZING so delicious I wish there was just more pistachio in it! And the mango one was very very good and so refreshing! The mango chunks are just so large and only at the top of the jar but it was still very good. My favorite was the rose pistachio and it's more on the sweet floral side! The service was pretty disappointing. There are so many flavors so naturally you have questions to ask and even though we were there first the lady at the front just kept skipping us and prioritizing others and then checking people out but then taking forever to give them their ready jars even though it's just sitting there. So that was odd and disappointing. They have a large outdoor seating and a few indoor seats as well inside!! read more

The inevitable has occurred again with another LA/OC area chain business making a launch into the SD market. Melo Melo has opened in the middle of the Westfield UTC Mall in the corridor leading to the AMC theaters, but it's closer to the end near Hai Di Lao. They specialize in gourmet coconut desserts with lots of flavor combinations. The inside of the suite had only a few small round tables for seating, but there was plenty more outside in the mall corridor. Two large glass cases displaying numerous products were at the service counter. The menu screen was behind the counter showing over two dozen varieties separated into six categories. The pixels on the screen were kind of fuzzy so perhaps they have to adjust the resolution to allow for clearer views. Because I came near the end of the day, the choices had become limited. I was able to snag a Coconut Double and a Strawberry Puree Coconut from The Classics and The Tropicals, respectively. The Coconut Double consisted of signature coconut jelly made with fresh coconut water and topped with another layer of milk-blended signature coconut jelly. This was very smooth and delicious. The Strawberry Puree Coconut had signature coconut jelly with a swirl of natural strawberry puree. It wasn't my first choice as I wanted one of the mango fruit options, but those had already sold out. It was still a sweet and refreshing combination though. The prices were on the high side, especially those varieties that had ingredients like mochi, ube, matcha, peach gum, etc. Yet, I can't say this was unexpected because the revamped mall has elevated its quality of businesses/clients, therefore the costs (and rent) will be proportionally more expensive. I did enjoy my two jars from Melo Melo Coconut Dessert that were placed inside a handy, peach-colored takeout bag with drawstrings. read more
