Yum! Came here on a whim and my friends and me came out with some delicious treats! The $1 egg tarts, ube filled bread and the strawberry cake was my fave! Staff were fantastic and atmosphere makes you hungry for some baked goods!

After landing back in San Diego, I immediately started craving the egg tarts we had while visiting San Francisco. I searched Yelp for bakeries nearby and ended up at Sunmerry Bakery. To my surprise they were running a special where the egg tarts were only $1 each. Sunmerry Bakery is a Taiwanese-style bakery chain known for offering a wide variety of Asian breads, pastries, and desserts along with drinks like teas and coffee. The location had a good amount of parking which made the visit easy. Inside, the layout felt a little overwhelming. There were so many breads, pastries, and promotional signs packed into a small space that it felt a bit overstimulating. They did have a lot of unique breads though. Things like mochi taro bread and mochi donuts in different variations of flavors. I was hoping to find something airy and light, and the pistachio bread caught my eye because it felt incredibly soft when I picked it up. Along with the pistachio bread we ordered two egg tarts. Service was friendly and the checkout process was quick. Our total came out to about $5.20. There is very limited seating inside with only a couple of tables outside. Unfortunately the pistachio bread ended up being a disappointment. It tasted like it had been sitting for a while and old, which surprised me since it was only around 10 AM. The pistachio cream filling also tasted artificial and the ratio of cream to bread felt lacking. It was basically a fluffy bread cut in half with a layer of cream squeezed inside. The egg tarts were the highlight though. I wish they were served a little warmer, but they had a nice egg-forward flavor that I really enjoyed. The flaky crust made them even better. Unfortunately this visit left me feeling like Sunmerry Bakery falls a bit lower on the list compared to other bakeries that offer similar items.

my family and i have come here a couple times. A little bakery, both visits have been in the afternoon when some items were sold out. even then, we were still able to pick out several savory and sweet options. their breads are soft, a hint of sweet, and all good choices depending on your preferences. it's a quiet shop, the employees have been polite. i have yet to try their drinks and cakes. there's a couples tables and chairs inside and out. prices are comparable to similar bakeries. about $2-3+ each.

This Sunmerry is very convenient to get to in Kearny Mesa and has plenty of parking in the same lot as Costco Business center. This one is a little more spacious than Mira Mesa location with some indoor tables. I really like that Sunmerry will often run Buy one get one free BOGO promos on different drinks and this location participates. The drinks aren't the tastiest, but they're solid and good value. I haven't had anything amazing, but also haven't had anything terrible. The service is always fast and friendly. Reliable stop. All the baked pastries look good and are competitively priced.

Best bakery. Nicely priced and delicious. They have drinks too. Our go-to are the Mochi, red bean and the sesame buns. There are some great cake-like desserts in the refrigerator also. The strawberry and mango ones are good. Love that they have seasonal treats. Got the mummy chocolate mochi bun today. It was cute and yummy Since up for their rewards. It links to your credit card (even via apply pay). We usually get a few dollars off every other visit.

I was emailed a deal for $32 Snoopy Fruit Paradise cake and I could not resist. Cake was beautifully decorated and coated in whipped cream. Whipped cream was light and sweet. Loved the fruity flavor from the fresh strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. Vanilla chiffon cake was light and fluffy with a delicious sweet vanilla flavor. This is one of my favorite cakes in town.

I was looking for a rainbow cake and was surprised to find one! Super cute cake not too sweet but a bit small. It came in a cute package.

    a lot missing

Their pastries are always so soft, fluffy, and delicious! We love their taro mochi and the cute seasonal offerings! Sadly this time on Saturday lunchtime- ish there were a lot of blank spaces on their display! When you walk in, it's a burst of sweet, bakery delicious smell - dangerous because you'll want them all!

Sunmerry Bakery is always a solid choice no matter which city I'm at. I came in for some baked goods such as taro mochi bread and bolo bao. They're delicious. I also tried out their honey milk tea and it also hit the spot for me. It had perfect sweetness. Service was quick. Price is average. Quality always good. It's located in a plaza with plenty of parking.

I have been wanting to check this place out for quite some time. One of my friends noted this was her favorite bakery. She lives in Seattle so I was very excited when this landed in SD. My sister stopped by and grabbed some items for us to try: 1. Tuna Bun- this bun was good, it had circular layers of very thin dough, I wish it was more savory 4/5 2. black sesame mochi bun - had pretty good flavor- 4/5 3. Taro Bun- my niece liked this bun 4/5 4. Coconut twist roll- this was pretty standard coconut twist roll 4/5 5. Custard roll- This one was the best, one of my favorite standard picks. The bun was uber soft outside and the inside had lots of soft custard 5/5 (pic attached) 6. Nutella bun- This was pretty good if you're in the mood for nutella 4/5 7. Walnut bun- This was my 2nd favorite bun. There is no middle of any kind but the bun is packed with walnuts. The bread is slightly sweet. I was very surprised about this bun. 5/5 Service:N/A (I was not there, so I can't rate) Ambiance:N/A (I was not there, so I can't rate) Food:4/5

First time here. Got their bogo deal, but only 3 drinks options, I think it was honey cold brew, honey green tea, and passion fruit green tea. Only applies to the same drink. Wish they allowed mix&match. Pastries were okay. Tried their coconut raisins pastries and taro mochi bread. Honestly not sure what differentiates them from other pastries. But will probably be back to try other pastries.

I had seen the bakery sign for years but didn't know what it was, but walking today (Sunday afternoon) because we got some ramen next door. Oh my goodness! I didn't realize it was a Japanese bakery!! Had I known would have come way before! It reminded me of a bakery I went to in Kyoto bullet train station, so very nostalgic for me. Even the set up and packaging kind of the same! I tried the green onion and sausage pastries and the tropical cake. I also had a cold brew black coffee. First the coffee was really good! I was quite surprised because I'm kind of a coffee snob. So thank you for that! The pastries were so delicious and so fresh! It really brought me back to Japan. There were so many others I wanted to try but I would be able to eat them all, so I'll just have to come back . I want to try the chicken, ham & cheese, ham & egg as well. So, I'm not a dessert person. I know, I know. But the guy helping me recommended the tropical cake slice so I got it. I tried it and it was just like deserts in Japan not sweet at all and very light. The person helping me with my items was so nice and helpful even if it was a Sunday afternoon. I appreciate that. All in all great experience andhighly recommend. I'm going to be a regular!

Based on other comments and the AI summaries I saw on Yelp and Google, it was recommended that I order ahead which is exactly what I did and it was a fairly easy and a quick system. It looks like their weekly menu keeps changing which is a both a good thing and a bad thing because you get to try new things but may not always get to eat your favorites again. I pre-ordered on a Thursday for a pick up on Friday and they were already out of their seasonal Black Forest Bun which sounded delicious. After scrolling through the menu multiple times, I decided to get the Pistachio Strawberry croissant and the Kouign Amann. When I arrived at the store, I immediately noticed the pre-order pick up window and was so glad that I wasn't standing in what seems to be on atleast a 25-30 line which I though was crazy for a weekday morning. The staff that gave my order was so friendly and it was so quick. What's great is they hold your order for atleast 24 hours in case you're unable to pick it up. There is some seating in the patio but honestly it's not meant for sitting and enjoying the pastries because there aren't really any tables but only seating. So it's best to pick up and take it home or eat by the beach which is what I did. The place is cute with a lot of plants and good vibes though. Since they don't warm up the croissants , I was worried that it wouldn't taste good while eating it at the beach but I was absolutely wrong. The Kouign Amann was okay, I'd give it a 4/5. The Pistachio Strawberry croissant however, was so absolutely delicious I'd give it a 5/5 even though it wasn't warmed up, it had the perfect amount of sweetness. It's easily one of the best croissants I've ever had. Overall this place has absolutely delicious pastries, but I'm not sure if I'd stand in a 30 mins line, maybe 10-15 mins, so good for them to have the pre order system.

As a tip, order ahead for pickup! Wayfarer opens its doors at 8 am, with online pickups avaliable as early as 9 - 9:15am. We walked right up, passed the already growing line, and enjoyed our breakfast. Truly the only way to skip waiting in line; going early won't cut it! We got three different croissants, as well as a baguette. Can't go wrong with the original, but the standout (to me) was the almond, with a crunchy top and stuffed with almond filling (think marzipan!). Perfectly balanced, and the almond, nor the sweetness, was not too overpowering. The Kouign-Amann had a crunchy, sugary shell. Almost like a creme brulee topping on a croissant. Sticky, but so delicious. Also shoutout to the baguette! One of the best I've had. Next time I'll have to bring some fruit, cheese, and honey. Wayfarer's vibes transported me to a community garden in Santa Cruz, and the tastes and techniques to Europe. Good thing it's inconvenient to get here from UC San Diego or else I'd be here much more often.

Lines are always better with a friend and even though we all arrived before opening there was still a healthy line. I was really excited, to finally get to check them out, I saw on their socials that a new chef had taken residency and that they came with some Filipino flair. As a fellow Filipino I definitely wanted to support. I ended up ordering a lumpia roll, ube butter ensaymada, a halo halo tart and a egg sando sandwich along with an iced matcha with honey, with tip my total was $48, which isn't horrible considering these are meant to be higher quality pastries. My girlfriends and I found a table and decided we would share, I shared my egg sando sandwich and the lumpia roll, while they shared their ube butter ensaymada and the turon kouign amann. My matcha, was a horrible, it was a muddy green and really lacked any matcha flavor, my friend didn't like her matcha either and she had the miso caramel matcha. I didn't even finish my matcha and I can really take one down. We joked about how we should have opted for the orange juice instead. Now for the pastries, I was really underwhelmed by them, the ensaymada was just fine, I honestly cannot remember the taste of it, it lacked something. The egg sando sandwich, the filling was plentiful and flavorful BUT the bread was dry, was that potato bread? The texture was off for me and I ended up just scooping out the filling and eating it like that. Where the sando had a good amount of filling the lumpia roll lacked it, it was so sparse I figured it would be more like a sausage roll so I was taken aback by how little there was in it. Flavors were fine, the pastry was buttery but I just wanted a little more. The one pastry we agreed was better than the rest was the turon kouign amann, the crunchy bits of sugar was so reminiscent of turon but the filling, for me was like uncooked banana bread batter, that threw me off entirely. It was better, but not the filling. So overall, I would say it was okay, I guess for the costs it just didn't meet my expectations.

Then to top it all off, it had pistachio cream on top of the cookie! I only wish I got another one. CAPPUCCINO It was okay. But love the foam! It was frothy and foamy! PAVLOVA The meringue was a bit too hard and too sweet and the pastry cream was overwhipped. Loved the fresh fig and blueberries though. I was looking forward to eating pavlova and this was very disappointing! KOUIGN AMANN Very buttery and sticky! Crispy on the outside. Every bite was not dry, but chewy. There was this sticky and chewy texture that wasn't unpleasant, yet it wasn't fully flaky like a croissant. But glad it was not dry! The kouign amann was not as tall like others I've tried, but I preferred it this way because it was not dry. The last kouign amann I had from Bread Lounge was dryyyy. But bought mine at a coffee shop too. PAIN AU CHOCOLAT Crispy on the outside, but I must have toasted a bit more, so the outside was a bit more toasted than desired. Inside was good. Good dark chocolate. BUTTER CROISSANT Really buttery, flaky, crispy! Ate it next day, so reheated it in the toaster oven to bring a more crispness all around. Really enjoyed this! Adding butter and jam is so good! LEMON MERINGUE Meringue had a strong eggy smell and flavor, the lemon was tangy, but not enough to rid of the eggy smell and flavor. The tart was hard and almost stale. I took a few bites and threw the rest out. PAIN SUISSE Chocolate flavor. Crispy on the outside, fluffy like a light spongy cake inside. Enjoyed this! CUSTOMER SERVICE Got there early afternoon. There was only one person in front of me. Good service overall. Quick service. Hits and misses of the various pastries I've tried. It will not deter me from trying their pastries though, as the really good ones were really good! Would love to return! Especially for that Choco Chip Pistachio Cookie! LOCATED INSIDE ANOTHER STORE Located inside a store called Floral Palette, which is a floral shop and specialty gift store. Beautiful store! The sign is big, so you cannot miss it!

They were amazing!!! I got the biscoff matcha latte with the biscoff foam and a few slices of cake. It was soooo good. I'm going try to plan for some relaxing time next time. The inside was beautiful and peaceful. Looks like a great place to start my day.

The crowd will come and go, so there's some moments of reprieve if you're considering this spot for reading/working. My "low" rating is because I feel quite mixed about the quality of the consumables. I really enjoyed my orange blossom latte. They accommodated a decaf shot for me, given how late it was in the day. I got a sesame raspberry cake to go, planning for it to be a nice dessert treat for dinner. The mini cake tastes like sesame, and the thin spread of raspberry was nice to break th creaminess. So while it tastes really nice, I was let down by the uneven raspberry taste and since it wasn't enough, the cake turned out to be too sweet when I got to the second half. Maybe this is a quality control issue, but I'm not sure I'll get another $12 mini cake from them any time soon.
