So I like this place. It's diner food, to be sure. But the mashed potatoes are real potatoes. The rolls are fresh. And the salads (mostly iceberg) are large and nourishing. Think of it as on par with the Village Inn in St. Helens. I'm there weekly. My buddy likes the biscuits and gravy. I'm a fan of the small chef salad, extra beets please and the hot turkey sandwich. This evening my daughter, Ella and I went here for dinner. The staff is nice enough and the atmosphere is very laid back. The food is typical greasy spoon American style faire. I ordered chicken strips and mashed potatoes. I found the food to be a bit bland but once I added salt and pepper it tasted better. Ella really enjoyed her grilled cheese and curly fries off the kids menu; to our delight, Monday was kids eat free day! All and all Ichabod's is a nice local restaurant with fun decor and decent food for an affordable price. read more

The service is quite quick even when busy. This is important for us as we stop there for our lunch hour. The food is delish and they will always make it right if there is ever an issue. It is great any time of day. Breakfast is really good, lunch is tops, and dinner? Well you better plan on splitting the order as the servings are LARGE! The post roast...OH MY LORD! Ive tried over and over again over 15yrs to go here and ive never been impressed. Its a local fav and I just dont get it! Last time i ordered biscuits and gravy; disgusting. Flavorless gravy; and so much gravy it was ridiculous; i tried to season it but i could barely get it down it was so gross. Ive had burnt bacon from here, small portions, left hungry multiple times. I think the prices are high. They serve alcohol; i ordered a mimosa; served in a beer mug instead of correct glassware or anything near it. Service is ok, seems clean etc but i just cant get over the bad food. read more

Steady flow of locals, friendly staff, really clean environment, great burgers & breakfasts (which is served all day!) The hash browns are old-school perfect. The room is full of busy buzz, radio music, conversations over soup and coffee. I'll definitely continue to make the 70 mile round trip to eat here when I crave a good diner experience. Friendly, fast and comfortable. Decorations are interesting but not matching to each other or the holiday. Food does not have seasonings added but they will kindly make your food how you request it. We had a group of 16 people and there were no mistakes or complaints. Great job Ichabod's. read more

I was craving French toast the other day so we stopped at Ichabod's . The atmosphere is rustic with some charm, and the service was pleasant and fast. However my order of French toast was rather soggy and the presentation was rather plane with no garnish, etc. the Price seemed a little high for what was presented. I'll keep going back as I have had other menu items that were very well prepared. Just disappointed this one tine. read more

The worst lunch I've had in ages. I didn't know that some "homestyle" cooking involved so much frozen food. If I had wanted heated frozen food from a bag I could have stayed home and done it myself and better. I could have gotten cheap deli food from a grocery store and it would have been better. Yuck! In the summer time it's nice to ride the Harley's from Portland. Breakfast is always good and service is also good.

Yet another greesy spoon but yet the consistancy of this place amazing. Everytime I go I am greeted with open arms (unlike other restaurants in town) and I get the same delicious Ichabod special breakfast to my satisfaction each time. Also getting a HUGE MUG of milk is earns this place an A+++!! read more

People told me that folks come here for the atmosphere and whenever people say that about anyplace, it means the food is shit. Well, the atmosphere of Ichabod's is good but the food is always going to be still pretty bad. No flavour, no substance, and really nothing sticks out as anything singularly good. On the flip side, good atmosphere. I don't go to breakfast restaurants to read a newspaper and socialize, I go there to stuff my face with good food. However, if I did go to read a newspaper and socialize, I'd go here...but I wouldn't order anything unless I was truly curious. At the moment though, I'm more curious about eating something like pressed cold pig ear than anything on the menu here. Pig ear is nice when it's fried, but pressed so you're eating a couple strips of pig ears with each slice has delightful possibilities. Service is generally good and the portions are a good size. The food is pretty good too. I suggest getting the Mexican omlette.

I have been all over the US and it is getting to be more difficult to find "old School", breakfast diners that are not "hipster" hangouts. If you are looking for a good, down home breakfast, greasy bacon burger with curly fries or country fried steak dinner with a stiff drink, this is the place to go! Food is consistently good and the atmosphere is mellow and old timey. Hipsters STAY away, you have ruined the rest, don't make this suck too! read more

This is a long time establishment in this community. Many of the locals come here to visit with friends over breakfast and a cup of coffee. That is very nice. I have visited several times. I generally go in for breakfast. They open early which makes it nice to drop in before the Church crowd on a Sunday. For the most part they make a pretty good biscuit and gravy. Only once I had it and it seemed the cook forgot something. It tasted starchy with no flavor. But that was only once in 6 years. I really appreciate that I can ask for an egg over medium well and the cook will give me what I ordered. Not over medium, not over hard but over medium well. A good line cook knows the difference. I know this because I was a waitress then supervisor and then a manger for many years. I know it is hard to mess up a breakfast but other establishments have done it and don't know the difference. My peppered bacon is always done correctly. Not too soft and not burnt. I would give them more stars if anything stood out but not really outstanding. This is not a fine dining epicurious gourmet delight of a place. It is basically a Grandma's house for breakfast kind of place. read more

A Sunday drive brought us to this place today for breakfast. It seemed to be quite popular, so we figured the food must be great. Unfortunately, this was not the case. The staff is friendly, and eager to make you feel welcome. The atmosphere is, well, a tad scary....FAR too many scary procelain clowns for my liking. We shared an denver omelete that completely lacked any flavor. No seasoning, and raw onion was overpowering. The hashbrown were a tad greasy and sitting in the oil they were cooked in. On the up side, the bread was good. It looks like a great place to meet friends, just wished the food was as good as the friendly staff. read more

After reading the uncouth review by a Portland person with the taste of a pond scum I just had to give my two bits worth. I am newly moved to Scappoose retired Veteran and noted how few places there were to eat in a town of 6090 (we are proud of that number as it keeps growing) but was reluctant to give in and try Icabods as it had no competition. After only a few trips there though I find it does not need competition to be able to give good food and service. It is a down home restaurant with friendly people and smiles all around. the food is like when I was a kid and we stopped by a restaurant on old Highway 99. It is good, filling and I love the protions. It is the only place we have eaten where the bill is given to you when the food arrives so you can pay anytime you want and not have to wait in line. The decor is quaint and is as it should be. They always celebrate the seasons and holidays with decorations to match. You want great food (where you can read the paper or a magazine) and still feel appre;ciated stop by Icabods when traveling through. read more

The service was really bad and the food was worse. We must have come at the wrong time.. They closed on a Friday night at 8pm..? Really we got there at 7pm and the food we got was half cooked like the stove was half on. The eggs I had tasted like plastic. The only edible thing was the pancakes not sure how you can really screw that up. Then had to wait for 10 minutes to have someone come to the register to pay my bill. They were busy cleaning so they could get out of there by 8pm. The waitress asked if everything was ok I tried to tell her the steak was horrible and the eggs were not ok and she was like oh I'm sorry.. That's it! I will never go there again!!! read more
