This is our go to sushi spot. The food is great. Service is okay nothing memorable as the server took a while to bring drinks out.

Paradise Roll

Came during my lunch break and loved the small dimly lit charm of this restaurant. Our group was greeted immediately and were able to sit at a table of our choice. We ordered the white board specials: Sexy Roll, Paradise Roll, and Super Hungry Roll. We received complimentary edamame which was devoured immediately and my only note was a pinch more salt. Now onto the rolls, each roll we ordered was very unique! All the fish tasted very fresh and the spicy tuna in the sexy roll was the perfect amount of spice. The paradise roll had fried shrimp and topped with white tuna and tuna which I never seen white tuna before and tasted amazing. The super hungry roll was HUGE! Deep fried with spicy tuna, cream cheese and jalapeño! Definitely a favorite! Can't wait to come back to visit! One of the best and coziest sushi places in town! Only note I will add is to perhaps place the price of the special rolls on the whiteboard as my cousin was under the assumption the rolls were special due to a discounted price.

This was my lunch spot when I used to work for the county in the same parking lot. This is a very small, friendly Japanese restaurant, clean and welcoming. The chef is a nice old man, gave us an amazing appetizer on the house. One waitress but sweet, and fast. The lunch came very fast. We ordered 5 rolls, see photos. Every single roll was delicious.

Chicken teriyaki bowl. Yum.

Lunchtime. Stopped in for the first time today. Place is on the smaller size, but is clean, and spacious enough to eat comfortably without being cramped in. Flat screen TV for entertainment. Waitress welcomed us in and was friendly, couple of people sitting and eating. Not super crowded on a Tuesday afternoon. Our order consisted of 3 iced teas. 1 glass of Merlot wine. 1 order of the Las Vegas rolls. And 2 orders of The Chicken teriyaki bowls. When they brought the drinks, they also brought a little bowl of snapped peas as a complimentary appetizer, which is nice, but we didn't care for them to much, preference thing. Soup came with the teriyaki bowls, which is what came out next, not sure what kind of soup it was but it did smell funky and had like a layer/glob of mushy cream like consistency in it, like water mixed with oil, if you just let it sit there for 1 minute without touching it, it would separate... Just odd. So next came the food, we could see the chef making the Las Vegas rolls up front at the counter, but they ended up serving them at least 8 minutes before the chicken teriyaki bowls came out, so one person was half way done, before the other two got their food. Las Vegas rolls were delicious though, cooked freshly upon order and were basically deep fried California rolls, had a nice light and crispy coating with a generous amount of filling, also drizzled with a couple types of sauces. 10/10 The chicken teriyaki bowls were also delicious, rice was soft and sticky, cooked to perfection, the chicken was tender and coated in teriyaki sauce, the veggies consisted of broccoli, carrots and onions and were soft but firm, cooked very nicely. My only complaint with the bowls were they didn't have enough veggies!! I saw maybe like 4 pieces of broccoli and the carrots were shredded thickly, but we're very few as well. Still giving it a 9/10. The iced teas were refreshing and the wine was on par. Food came out all in a decent amount of time too, waitress was very accommodating throughout the entire meal. Prices are a lil steep, 70$ for everything mentioned. Not too bad for 3 people I suppose. Wish we could have enjoyed our appetizer and soup too, but we were coming for the teriyaki bowls anyway. Lol I recommend this place for the Vegas rolls and chicken teriyaki bowls. Enjoyable experience overall. The end.

Miso soup was so small. Tasted okay, but watered down. It was lacking real miso flavor. Tempura veggies were good, not too greasy.

Instead, I'm paying premium prices to sit under fluorescent lights and question my life choices. The "Combo" Math that Isn't Mathing Then there's the pricing logic--or lack thereof. Why does a chicken and steak combo cost 20% more than the steak plate alone? * Standard Logic: A combo price should land somewhere between the cost of the chicken and the steak. * Kyoto Logic: "Since you want both, we're going to tax your indecisiveness." Either they have zero respect for their customers, or they're catastrophically bad at math. I'm betting on the latter. Honestly, I could buy a Blackstone grill for the cost of three or four visits to this place. The "Service" (If You Can Call It That) To top it off, the customer service is abysmal. The staff acts personally offended by your very existence. Even the older gentleman--who I assume is the owner--is the worst of the bunch. He radiates a vibe that says, "I hope you choke on that brown rice." Final Verdict: This is the last time they get a dime from me. I'm taking my business to my backyard.

He went over our plates and started the show, which we enjoyed. I would have loved to give this place 5 stars, but unfortunately there was an issue with the meat portions for my brother and my husband. When my brother brought it to the chef's attention, the chef removed meat from my husband's plate and gave it to my brother. I honestly did not find that appropriate. The correct way to handle the situation would have been to bring out additional meat to fix the mistake, not take food directly from another guest's plate. While we are family what if we weren't? What if we had just met at that dinner? I suggest handling these types of errors in a more hygienic and professional manner. With better attention to this, the experience could truly be a 5 star one.

I'm glad we did, because it gave us a whole new feel for the place. Inside isn't massive, but it's not cramped either. Think of it like the Goldilocks of restaurant spaces: just right. The vibe leans calm and cozy, dim lighting, black walls, and splashes of color here and there. It's got that "peaceful sushi zen" atmosphere without being boring. Our waitress deserves a medal (or at least an extra roll on the house). She was the only one working the floor, yet somehow managed to be friendly, attentive, and efficient all at once. Multitasking level: expert. Now onto the food, which is really why we came back. We ordered a spread: two teriyaki chicken plates, one chicken ramen bowl, an order of sushi crunch rolls, egg rolls, a large pineapple sake, a beer, and two iced teas. (Yes, we came hungry. Don't judge.) Everything came out quickly, hot, and fresh. The chicken was juicy, the rice perfectly cooked, and the little bed of veggies under the teriyaki chicken was tender-crispy and surprisingly addictive. Whoever thought of tucking those under there deserves a raise. The ramen had bold flavors that hit the spot, and the sushi rolls lived up to their name, they really were crunchy and delicious. Now, the egg rolls. Let me tell you, these might just be the best I've ever had. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and stuffed with flavor on the inside. The kind that makes you regret ordering only one plate. Drinks? The beer was cold (and surprisingly affordable), the iced teas were strong and refreshing, and the pineapple sake... well, it was different, let's just say it's not everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I'll stick to tequila, lol, but my husband happily claimed the sake as his new favorite. Win-win. Prices here are fair and budget-friendly, which is always nice to see at a sushi spot. The place was clean and well-kept, and I'm happy to say it still holds up just as well as when I ordered takeout years ago. Bottom line: Shoyu Sushi is still doing its thing, fresh food, good prices, relaxing vibe, and service that makes you feel taken care of. If you want sushi that crunches, teriyaki that comforts, and egg rolls that just might ruin all other egg rolls for you, this is the spot.

However, during my last visit, I noticed something that didn't sit right with me, and I just wanted to make others aware. The restaurant automatically adds an 18% gratuity for parties of five or more, including small children in the party count. While I understand restaurants have policies, what bothered me was that it wasn't verbally mentioned or clearly pointed out during our visit, which makes it very easy to overlook. If you pay by card, the receipt they bring you already includes the gratuity in the total. However, the signature slip still suggests additional tip amounts at the bottom, which can easily lead people to accidentally double tip without realizing it. I'm sharing this simply so people can pay attention before signing. In today's economy, every extra dollar matters for families dining out. And while some people may say, "If you can't afford to tip, don't eat out," the reality is that restaurants rely on customers to stay in business too. Transparency goes a long way, and I think customers should be clearly informed when gratuity has already been included.

The food was prepared in a timely manner and my steak was cooked to the medium temp I ordered. It was super tasty and flavorful, but definitely on the heavy and oily side. The portion was large enough that I had leftovers for a subsequent meal. My coworkers who had chicken and shrimp versions of the experience also enjoyed their meals. Just to level set for expectations on the portion size. The gents finished their food, and the ladies had enough to take togo. Overall it is a splurge for a lunch but a good deal for teppan. Not something I would frequent because the nature of teppan can be oily and heavy, but I wouldn't mind coming back when my coworkers are in the mood for some teppan.
