This place is okay. It is very clean, as far as a service the waitress was nice, but not very attentive. This place was not busy. There was a couple there, besides me and my son. I ordered the heart attack sushi which the jalapeño was fried, stuffed with spicy tuna and cream cheese. It was the best part because it was delicious. What blowed my mind was, I had asked for extra sriracha sauce since I was only given one packet. If you ask for extra they charge you for each packet you request. The best sushi I've found in Bakersfield (at least so far). Recent LA transplant, had been suffering a bit missing my neighbor sushi joint. Ordered a few basics from Ichiban to give it a shot. The golden California roll was a nice twist on the "classic," topped with perfectly fried kabocha. Spicy tuna was very, very tasty and perfectly spicy. Veggie roll good too. The rice in every roll we tried was soft and flavorful. Can't wait to go back and try some of the more traditional and complex offerings. Grateful to have found this place! read more

Both locations have great service. For some reason I've always preferred Oswell location. Food is always so good and never a long wait time.

This is by far my husband and my favorite sushi spot. Whenever we want to treat ourselves, this is what we get. It's become a regular spot at least a couple times a month. The sushi is not as good as it has been in the past but not the worst I've ever had. I gave only 3 stars because I was disappointed by the fact that they wanted $.50 for a little cup of eel sauce. I know it just $ .50 but it was the principal. I think post covid19 restaurants really need to step up their game to get my business. Stopped in for a quick bite. My son's choice since he made a game-winning catch. We like coming here because it's convenient, and for the price, the sushi and specialty rolls are pretty good. Tonight we ordered two albacore rolls, a California roll, and tried an "Aloha Roll" (spicy tuna roll with red snapper and albacore). Oh and a few bowls of Miso. The service was fast as we got our rolls about 5 min after ordering. Overall the place was clean, including the bathrooms, and I gave them the extra star due to the ambiance. I mean, the hostesses/servers couldn't have been over 25 years old, yet they had a Pandora station on playing a station called "Sugar Ray", and Friends was on the TV. This a one of my go to lunch bento box places for sashimi and sushi, 10.95 at lunch. This is your average cheap sushi places, overall really solid. Front of house is limited at lunch time usually only one person working and when it is busy service can be on the slower side. The staff and chefs are helpful and friendly. Decor and environment is pretty standard. The bento box comes with miso soup, salad and rice with your choice of the two sides. I usually go with sashimi and sushi only. The fish can be hit or miss based on the day you go, sometimes it is really fresh with great textures and on other days you can tell it is a bit old and the quality can be lacking. The sushi is done really well with premium tasting rice and great attention to detail with rich deep complex flavors in the sauce or bits of wasabi placed on the rice. Ultimately, a solid go to lunch spot, sometimes not with the best consistency in quality, but I will continue to be coming back. read more

Best sushi in Bakersfield. Why? Their rice is superior to everyone else. It's clean. It's fluffy. It's sticky. It's tasty.

BEWARE: their menu is not the same as other Ichiban menus and other places that make the Philadelphia roll. They don't follow the normal recipe instead they put the salmon on the outside and they put sour or pickled asparagus inside the role and they don't have the little orange eggs or sesame seeds on the outside. I have been to Ichiban Sushi a handful of times at this point, and this place falls between a 3-star and a 4-star restaurant for me. When I crave sushi, the first restaurant that comes to mind is Ichiban Sushi on the East Side of Bakersfield. For one, the sushi is pretty good for the most part, and two, it is in a convenient location for me. The problem I have with this restaurant is that sometimes they only have 1 or 2 people working the dining room area, and depending on how busy it gets, it takes FOREVER to get our orders in, receive the food, and get the bill at the end of dinner. However, if you go during off-peak hours, then the dine-in experience is pleasant. The last time I went to Ichiban (3 days ago), I went during the off-peak hours and truly enjoyed the food and the service. I ordered one of my favorite rolls, the Bacardi Roll, which is topped with baked salmon. I recommend this roll, and consider it the perfect sushi roll for those individuals that don't eat raw fish. read more
