Ahi Sushi is a family favorite! We've been coming to this restaurant since it was Ninja. This place is a hidden gem, located next to a Little Caesars in the Rosedale Shopping Center. When you walk inside, you're immediately greeted. The service has always been great! It's a nice, cozy vibe. The sushi bar is to the left of the entrance and there's booth-style seating on the right side by the wall. I love ordering their tempura rolls. Very clean establishment, especially their restrooms. Dim lighting is always a favorite for me, especially when I'm out with my hubby. We had dinner here and it was both of our first-time. I really hate that I have to give this place a 4 but it's because the spicy edamame was not to my liking and they do not carry pineapple soju. The food is definitely a must try, especially the beautiful yellowtail sashimi. The seafood yakisoba was so delicious. I did not care much for the baked salmon roll, Love Sushi takes first place for that roll and Prime Sushi take first place for spicy edamame. The crazy tuna roll I ordered was so big! To my absolute surprise, the cucumber salad is THEE BEST CUCUMBER SALAD I HAVE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE!! I'm dead serious, you must try it, super fresh, great flavor and portions are bountiful. We were here with 12 starving young adults. There were a decent amount of customers for around 5pm. Initially I thought that it was but pricey as rolls were about $20 each and dinner bentos for two items were $23-25 bucks (considering we are from California) I was pleasantly surprised when our food came that there portion size were huge, good enough for sharing. Went to Ahi Sushi to celebrate a friend's birthday with a group of 10, and overall it was a great experience. We timed it well and beat the rush, which definitely helped with seating and service. The service was good and the server was attentive and friendly, especially considering the size of our group. The food was fresh and came out in a reasonable amount of time. I get so sad when I have to down-grade my review... but I dislike misinforming people, so here we go. I visited yesterday. We were there before the dinner rush started so they were not busy at all. We ordered our usual - sashimi set B, salmon dance roll, poke appetizer and dynamite roll. The portion decreased on all dishes, the quality of sashimi used were poor and fishy(some still frozen and crunchy) and the rice used for the roll was way so overcooked. I was never disappointed with their food before, so I was in a bit of shock to see the poor quality, portion and presentation, so I turned and checked out the sushi staff, and I did not see one/usual Korean staff that used to be there. Plus, they were understaffed in the dining area too compared to before. Based on this, my assumption is that the ownership changed or something. The staff were all very welcoming and extremely friendly. The sushi was all excellent. Everything tasted so fresh and was so flavorful. My favorite was the monster roll. Was invited to a birthday dinner and they had reserved a table for a large group. The restaurant itself is not very big. However, it is very popular, as we noticed, a huge turnout. 3 years have passed and though we don't visit as much as we did in the past, the food is still great and the staff is great.. Looks like the prices have increased slightly but can't blame them for that and the portions (tuna dance, Hama Hama, edamame, and cucumber salad) continue to be healthy.. Came on a Friday for lunch and i was surprised how many people came at lunch time! But looking at their menu They have some good lunch deals. Interior was warm and clean, and had great soft lighting. Great fast and friendly service. My friend and I were seated quickly and given drink options. We had some questions about the menu and then ordered. They brought out 2 bowls of miso soup which was a nice touch, really yummy. I had 2 rolls, rainbow and Las Vegas. Both had some of the biggest pieces of fish I've seen at a sushi place! Really appreciate the big portions. Out here in Bakersfield I went to try this sushi restaurant. Encouraged by some of the reviews. Everyone was friendly and seated right away. I had to take one star away because of two things. First, when served the nigiri I was told what type of fish I ordered. It is normal for the server to at least explain which pieces I ordered. I ordered salmon belly (worth it if you find it at a sushi restaurant), yellow tail belly, bluefin tuna, and Uni (from Santa Barbara more sweeter than from Japan and good). Second, I asked for their most popular roll and was told they had already thrown away my ticket when I asked about it.... It wasn't that big a deal for me but definitely something to note. The quality of the fish was good. Tasty and fresh. They did not place a dab of wasabi under each piece of fish in the nigiri which was a little disappointing. I did notice at the sushi bar it was reserved and as a single surprised I wasn't offered a seat at the bar but was seated at a two top. Again just a detail. Makes sense with how thin they flattened the meat. I love that the salmon roll came with some slices of sashimi. The tempuras were great as expected, and you get lots of veggies between the steamed ones and the salad. Health is wealth! We ordered three rolls and enjoyed them all! Tuna dance was our favorite. There's so much going on with it! The marinated ahi tuna on top was so delicious! That was definitely the highlight of our meal. If we could just have a plate of what was on top we'd be happy! The roll itself got a bit wet under all the toppings but we'd still get it again. Summer breeze is such a refreshing roll with the lemon on top! Crazy horse is a huge roll and so unique. I don't think we've seen anything with a cross section like that. Delicious! My husband and I were having a date night on Friday and decided on the ol' reliable dinner and a movie. Our movie didn't start until 7:05 PM and it was barely 5, so we decided to stop here for dinner. I have had Ahi before as a To-Go order and really loved the food, so I thought eating in person would be an even better experience. We walked in at about 5:05 pm and every table was filled, but there was only one or two other parties waiting to be seated and the gal that greeted us said it would be about 20-25 minutes before we could be seated. We agreed and put our names on the list. The other parties were seated as people were leaving and we were confident we would be seated next. But then a new party walked in with hugs and smiles for all the staff and they were seated right away! About 15 more minutes pass, people are leaving, tables are cleared. They still don't seat us. At this point, my husband is annoyed and decides that if we aren't seated in the next few minutes, we would have to pick something up on the way or we would be late for the movie. That's when an older couple walks in with a vase full of flowers and hugs all the staff and - I get it if they are friends or family or whatever, you want to help them first - but what REALLY ruined the experience for me, was that the greeter asked if the couple wanted something to eat and they said "Of course, but we don't have a reservation" and the greeter looks at us and the other people waiting, and goes "No worries! I'll get you seated right away!" and busses a table to seat them! Mind you, we are only about 4 ft from where this conversation is being loudly held. We ended up walking out of the place around 6:15 pm; mind you, were told it would be 20-25 minutes. All in all, I do enjoy the food here, so I will give them one star, but I wouldn't recommend eating here in person unless you have an inner circle connection to the owners or their staff. read more
