    Chicken Katsu

Excellent food and service by cho93. I get the chicken katsu every time. Best chicken katsu in Tacoma.

    Edimame

Writing a review because this food was hardly edible. The edamame is brown and the chicken is soaked in so much glaze, it turned into a mush.

The food was really good here. Clean, fast and friendly. Prices are very reasonable. No complaints I ordered the chicken teriyaki, and my other half ordered shrimp fried rice with tempura. He didn't like that the fried rice had small shrimp some that were un-vained. They gave us a lot of food. We had plenty to take home. The tempura was large and Crispy just like the picture. I will definitely be back.

This is for Ichiban Teriyaki #3 address 8425 S Hosmer ST Tacoma, WA. According to the menu. I can't find this location on here so this is the closest one. Maybe the same place. I don't know if they have 2 on the same street. Anyways. My mom is having me write this review. My mother and grandmother were very unhappy. The advertised prices on the windows and menu said one thing. A good price! However they were charged DOUBLE what is advertised. When they inquired about it, they were told those were "old" prices. Well that's false advertising! The receipt doesn't have a breakdown of charges. Just simply says the grand total. Seems like a great way to scam people. Oh we had a bad day today so let's make up for it by charging double! As for the food .... The dressing was miracle whip. That was sitting on the counter for god knows how long. It was pre set in little cups sitting on the counter. It was nasty. Plus they were expecting real dressing not that. Yes we know it's technically salad dressing but I'm sure you understand what I mean. The food was extremely salty. They ordered chicken teriyaki, my mom asked for breast. The lady replied saying they don't have breast. The chicken was gristly, too hard to chew. It was just all around gross. They had to add water to the meal at home just to try to tone down the salt. The noddles were extremely oily. They were extremely disappointed all the way around.

I should have come earlier. Really nice food. I have been in this area for 2-3 years. Not like East side lots of choices. I tried couples of Asia restaurants not good. This one is by far one of the best in Tacoma area. Unfortunately I am moving back to north, but I definitely will come back as I still have business in Tacoma and Lacey.

I got the spicy teriyaki and it was delicious. Good mix of flavors and has some spicy but not too spicy. I would recommend.

The food is my favorite part. I can have a beer anywhere, but the food is actually pretty on point minus the nachos, sad to say. Always overcooked, cheese is hardened and well beyond melted, but a massive portion in size. The sandwiches are amazing, the quesadillas are amazing, have yet to make it there before breakfast ends but I'm betting it's probably pretty good. Staff are friendly, efficient, and do well on checking to make sure you're not waiting too long for service without being too bothersome. It gets a little loud, busy and crowded on nights especially on the weekends, but that's typical bar atmosphere. Patio seating is nice on sunny days like today. 5/5 for a hometown spot in the neighborhood.

You can leave your tab open, which we almost did just try more food! We got three vegan dishes: the vegan nachos, the vegan Cubano, and the Chef Daddy Mac (vegan). Everything was so good! The nachos were a huge serving. There were two of us, and even though we had two more dishes coming, we still ate almost all of them. My friend got the vegan Cubano. She's not a vegan, and she said she really enjoyed it. She would definitely get it again. I got the Chef Daddy Mac. I ended up only taking a bite because we had eaten so much already I brought it home and it served me two more dinners! And it was delicious. I went to the bar and flagged down one of the bartenders to let them know how much I appreciated that they had a vegan menu at their restaurant. I was so pleased with the food and the thoughtfulness that went into the dishes. It wasn't just food without meat, and it wasn't just regular dishes with a meat alternative. These were crafted vegan dishes that can stand up in any restaurant against any animal-based dish. The atmosphere wasn't my vibe. As a Christian, it felt a little odd to be in that environment. The food was so good, though, I can't wait to come back and try more vegan options on the menu.

Without a doubt this is one of Tacoma's best dining experiences. Chef Shawn's team is small but mighty. The staff that we encountered were all super kind and attentive. It's widely known that Chef Shawn has a radiant personality and treats everybody in his restaurant like a longtime friend. He walked around chatting with everybody personally, showed off dishes as he walked through the restaurant, and was even happy to let diners take a peek at his kitchen (how does he make all this magic happen on TWO CAMP STOVES?!) The menu isn't massive, but everything on the menu is executed with precision and grace. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted but I've had my eyes on the Lobster Bomb for years. My husband got the "Tiny Burrito" which is quite literally the size of a newborn. The Lobster Bomb was excellent. Generous chunks of succulent lobster and the hollandaise was perfect! Subtle on the lemon flavor as to not overpower, but still rich and creamy. I tried my husband's burrito and the chorizo gravy is stellar. You could easily share this with 1-2 other people in my opinion. It lasted my husband two leftover meals! The restaurant itself is small but it's cozy and feels like you're at home. No frills, nothing over the top, nothing trendy. Just a relaxed vibe with lots of authentic touches from Chef Shawn. While this was our first visit it definitely won't be our last. Exactly the kind of hospitality that makes a meal memorable. We started with the Guacamole Sampler -- Traditional, Carlito's Way, and Austin Style -- served with warm housemade chips and their signature salsa. Every style had its own personality, and the flavors were spot‑on across the board. A fantastic way to kick off the meal. For my entrée, I went with the Seasonal Al Pastor Tamales, and wow... this dish is a true taste of the south. The ancho, guajillo, and achiote citrus slow‑roasted pork was rich and tender, perfectly balanced by cumin black beans, pickled pineapple, white onion, and serrano salsa. Every bite had depth, heat, and brightness. My wife ordered the Smoked Chicken Tomatillo Soup -- hominy, red bell peppers, carrots, onions, chipotle, buttermilk crema, cilantro, and blue corn tortilla strips. Served with fresh housemade sopes, it was comforting, flavorful, and beautifully layered. A perfect bowl for any season. We also shared the Navajo Fry Bread -- honestly, this should be listed under desserts. Warm, soft, slightly sweet, and absolutely delicious. The overall vibe was relaxed and inviting. It can get a bit noisy -- especially for someone like me who's hard of hearing -- but the energy is still warm and enjoyable. Cactus never disappoints.
