i went here about a week ago and the food was actually pretty good. my only issue was that our server tried to upsell us way too much. i get it because i'm a server too, and i know you're supposed to suggest add ons and help increase sales, but there comes a point where it's just too much. for example, we were told the kitchen was closing in 10 minutes. when the server asked if we wanted anything else, we said we were happy with what we had. instead of leaving it at that, he said he'd give us a few more minutes to think about it and come back, even though we had already said no. another time, we asked for a bowl of rice. instead of just ringing it in, he asked if we wanted fried rice instead. after i said sure, fried rice is fine, he asked if i wanted kimchi fried rice. i said just regular fried rice, and then he asked if i wanted to add a fried egg on top. it felt like every order turned into three or four extra questions trying to get us to spend more. again, the food was good and i'd come back for that, but the constant upselling made the experience feel a little exhausting. Dinner here with some friends was a great time. Great service. Nice staff and waiters. Clean and casual. For apps, I ordered the chicken wings. They were delicious! Flavored nicely. Sauce was powerful and tasty. For my main entree, got the beef rice bowl. It was huge and I had some leftovers for the next day. Good portions of meat. The restaurant was clean, modern with a really cool dragon mural on the wall. The service was quick and friendly. Best of all the food: -Steam Buns with Pork Belly (5/5): 2nd fav item. The bun was pillow soft, the pork belly was tender and this was an overall flavor bomb. As others have mentioned, wait times are terrible. 30+ minutes for the signature ichiro ramen. Had to ask the waiter multiple times where our orders were when we noticed patrons get their food which arrived AFTER us. Supposedly each bowl is made one by one but they didn't come out staggered so probably not one by one. The ramen soup lacked flavor and almost felt watered down. Not a thick bone broth at all. Worst ramen I've ever had. I will not return or recommend. The ramen had no flavor and was super greasy. The gyoza was soggy and coming apart. When he brought our sake bottle over he just slammed it on the table with the glasses stacked and walked away. We decided to step out of our usual routine and explore something new together. I chose the beef ramen, upgraded with udon noodles, and added the soy garlic wings to my order. Initially, the broth lacked a distinct depth of flavor, so I enhanced it with a dash of sriracha hot sauce. Unfortunately, the seasoning on the wings--using both fish sauce and soy sauce--overpowered the garlic, resulting in a notably fishy, salty taste. My friend wanted ramen for lunch so we landed here. We started off with the chicken karaage and gyoza which were both lovely and we thoroughly enjoyed. Ever since I have come to the DFW area, I have been on a quest to find the best ramen in Dallas. My litmus test is a tonkatsu ramen, and I have to say that Ichiro has the best one in the entire DFW area. Here are some of my comments on a couple of criteria I use to judge tonkatsu ramen: Criteria 1: Much be thick and fatty broth In terms of broth quality, it's not the best I've had compared to other places across the country, but it's acceptable and far better than other bland/diluted broths I've had at other places in the DFW. Criteria 2: Noodles are not overcooked and do a good job of grabbing the broth The noodles were cooked just right and do an above-average job at bringing the broth with each slurp. My only issue is that the noodle length is cut too short for my liking. Criteria 3: Toppings must be filling I'm not asking for a lot of toppings, but I really feel like other places are rationing. That is certainly not the case at Ichiro. Just look at how many Chashu pieces I got with a normal bowl. Criteria 4: Broth is given at just the right temperature. Shouldn't be too cold on presentation and not hot enough to give you 2nd-degree burns. Just a couple of points that I noticed when eating Ichiro ramen. It's definitely a place I go back to whenever I need a solid bowl of ramen. read more
