My friend got me their banana bread cake for the first time a few months ago, and it was SO good! I finally got a chance to stop by myself, and they have so many other dessert options to choose from, including cupcakes, cookies, and different cake flavors. When you walk in, make sure to grab a number since the staff assists customers in order by number. Once you know what you want, the line moves pretty quickly and they're efficient with getting your order together. They also have a bunch of other things you can purchase around the store, so it's fun to browse while you wait. Definitely a great spot for anyone with a sweet tooth, and I'll be back to try more of their desserts! read more

Icing on the cake has to be my favorite Bay Area bakery, maybe my favorite bakery in the whole state of California. I first came for the cupcakes but I keep coming back for the COOKIES. I mean, my goodness, they are so good. My favorites are 1. Ted Lasso Shortbread Cookes (soft buttery unlike ANYTHING, best shortbread cookie you will ever have) 2. Dominos (two dense and rich chocolate cookies sandwiching some cream) 3.Chocolate dipped peanut butter Cookes (self explanatory) 4. Sprinkle vanilla cookie (don't be fooled, perfect bite and vanilla taste) 5. Lemon cream cookie, super nice tang lemon flavor. A great summer or spring cookie Each cookie is so different too! I feel like some bakeries take a base dough recipe and add a little lemon or add a little coco powder to build out their cookie selection. NOT icing on the cake. Each cookie has its OWN texture and a strong flavor profile. They are unique and absolutely delicious! I cry inside because I used to live in Campbell but did not know about this bakery, I now make the occasional hour drive and stock up on cookies to freeze. THEY ARE THAT GOOD. I have also tried their traditional cookies (i.e. chocolate chip cookie etc) I have to say the snickerdoodle was my favorite but I do not think they are as stand-out as the list above. The edible egg-less cookie dough is a perfect little sweet treat. And of course the cupcakes here are really unique and yummy! I particularly like the old school vanilla cupcake, peanut butter cupcake, and the cookie dough cupcake. If you like mint chocolate chip ice cream you will also like that one. Different from most the reviews, we chose Icing on the Cake for our Wedding! We taste tested in the form of cupcakes and can't wait to serve this deliciousness at our wedding. Their popular items - the banana and almond cupcakes sell out quickly, so the front desk recommended to call ahead. I tried their banana cake since it's one of the things they're best known for. It was fluffy, moist, buttery, and didn't have a weird artificial taste. This tasted more like banana bread with added cream cheese frosting, but still very good. Their cookies were also popular because the selection was almost gone. Perhaps I came on a Saturday early evening. My only issue were the cake slices were wrapped in plastic wrap. The frosting clinging onto the wrap made it messy and threw off the cake/frosting ratio. I hope they find a better way to package slices because wrapping baked goods with plastic wrap looks bit tacky. Overall, I like their desserts aren't overly fancy, but still have that cute touch. i ordered a wedding cake sampler box from icing on the cake, and it did not disappoint! i called in to order about 3 days in advance, and they graciously helped me pick out some of their best selling flavors. i got 5 different flavors, and they came in the form of cupcakes! when i arrived for pickup, they have everyone take a ticket and wait for your number. on a saturday afternoon it was decently crowded, but i got called right away. they handed my my box fresh from the fridge and offered me forks! we tried their red velvet with cream cheese, lemon, chocolate chip, pistachio with a brown butter icing, and banana! each cupcake had their respective fillings inside, and were all frosted in their white buttercream on the outside. i loved that you can mix and match! my favorite was the pistachio with brown butter icing, the contrast between the nutty cake and the slightly salty icing was soooo good. my boyfriend's favorite was the banana cake with cream cheese frosting, which wasn't too sweet and had a nice tang from the cream cheese. i would highly recommend icing on the cake! read more

As soon as you walk in, you'll be hit with the incredible scents of freshly baked goods. You'll see a sea of greeting cards and cute knick knacks available for purchase. Everything in the store is very cutesy and colorful. If you look to the right you will see a ticketing system similar to those in a deli. Its not clear if you still need to wait in line if you've preordered and prepaid for a cake but I did anyway. Service was ok. I asked someone if I needed to wait in line if I had already purchased a cake over the phone. The worker said she didn't know the answer. I also asked that same worker for help because the numbering system was stuck and I wasn't able to pull a number. The worker had the same response of not knowing how to fix the number dispenser. When I came to pick up my cake on a busy Sunday morning, I was pretty disappointed by the result. None of the directions I asked for were correct but I guess all that really matters is the taste. But more on that later. I requested for " a smiski bit older" in small green colored font at the lower bottom half of the cake with no piped frosting decor, just simple style. They wrote down about half of what I asked for on their invoice receipt so the cake was not at all what I was expecting. Instead they wrote the letters in big font across the middle of the cake so my plan to put smiski figurines on top of the cake was ruined. Banana cake with cream cheese frosting- The banana cake was more of the crumbly side- similar to a loaf or banana bread. I do wish it was more moist and spongy like in consistency like a normal cake. The frosting was sweet, more sugar forward than cream cheese. The cake held up well even after 3 days without getting too dry. We enjoyed the cake per the instructions of letting it get to room temperature for one hour. The banana cake itself was good- not mind blowing but a decent option when Asian flavor cakes get a bit repetitive. I wouldn't expect too much from the custom designs here. read more

I ordered cupcakes for a gender reveal for myself. I was able to order and pay over the phone and later that day provided them with an envelope that contained the gender. It all worked very seamless. Pick up was easy and fast as well. The employee who helped me was conscientious on, not revealing the gender. The problem was while setting up our cupcakes for our reveal. I held the cupcake and could see the blue frosting coming from beneath the cream cheese frosting. It was very obvious and unable to be missed by anyone. I think they made the whole to large and filled it with too much blue frosting., Because also when you bit into it, the entire cupcake crumbled because it lacked structure with how much cake was removed from the center. We've been going here for banana cake for years! I recently ordered 2 cakes from them for an event, a banana sheet cake and 8in(I think) German chocolate cake. Ordering over the phone was easy and pick up was quick. You can park in the lot in the back and they'll wheel the cakes out to you in cart. What a charming bakery! As soon as you walk in you notice how nicely organized and decorated the store is. There's so much to see in the store while you decide what to indulge in. With such a vast array of options, we're already planning our return visit. The service was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, answering all our questions with a smile. We inquired about the difference between the banana cake and the banana cupcake. They explained that both use the same recipe, but the cupcake has more cream cheese frosting. We opted for the cake, which, while not as fresh as we'd hoped, still tasted amazing. The true star of our visit was the Peanut Butter Cream Pie! WOW! Beware if you have Celiac Desease and order gluten free. My mother ordered a dozen (or so) cupcakes for my daughters High School graduation party. Four of the dozen were supposed to be gluten free. When my mother arrived to pick up the cupcakes the row of four were labeled as "vegan". When she pointed it out and said that she actually ordered gluten-free not vegan the worker told her "oh we just labeled it incorrectly those ARE gluten-free." My daughter didn't finish half a cupcake before she had a reaction. My daughter isn't gluten-free because of a diet trend, she has celiac disease. I called this bakery twice yesterday regarding a custom birthday cake. During the first call, I asked about pricing, timing, and availability for a 10-inch cake needed for Saturday. During the second call, I explained clearly that I planned to serve the cake on Saturday and pick it up Friday. I was ready to place the order over the phone, but I was told there was no need and that I could simply come in the next day because they only required a 2-day notice. So today, I drove there shortly after opening (around 9:30 AM) to place the order, only to be told they were no longer accepting cake orders for Saturday. When I explained that I had specifically called the day before and was told to come today, the response I received was: "We changed our minds." I completely understand that custom cakes require time and that businesses can only take a certain number of orders. That's not the issue. The issue is misleading customers and showing zero respect for their time. We spent time going through their poorly designed website trying to figure out flavors and colors, made the drive there based on what we were told, and then were dismissed with "we changed our minds." To make it worse, the only solution offered was to order the cake today, pick it up Thursday, refrigerate it, and serve an old cake on Saturday. At this point, it's not even about the cake anymore. I've been meaning to try it out on multiple occasions for YEARS now but I either never made it during opening hours or just got sidetracked by other things. BUT NOW THAT DAY HAS FINALLY COME. I wandered in with the sole mission of procuring a slice of this famous banana cake ($6). When I entered the store, I was greeted with a plethora of goodies. They have several vegan options too, so vegans can rejoice! Maybe I'll give that a try next time. Staff was very friendly and helped me immediately upon entry. I lasered in on the banana cake, but then the ginger molasses cookie ($4) caught my eye, so I caved in and got that too. The banana cake, as promised, was delightful. I found it to be very moist and loved how the banana flavor wasn't too overwhelming. I also didn't mind the cream cheese frosting because it wasn't a super thick layer! The cookie though, was very underwhelming. I didn't really taste much of the ginger molasses flavor. It's very faint and I got an aftertaste of baking soda/powder.
