i ordered a wedding cake sampler box from icing on the cake, and it did not disappoint! i called in to order about 3 days in advance, and they graciously helped me pick out some of their best selling flavors. i got 5 different flavors, and they came in the form of cupcakes! when i arrived for pickup, they have everyone take a ticket and wait for your number. on a saturday afternoon it was decently crowded, but i got called right away. they handed my my box fresh from the fridge and offered me forks! we tried their red velvet with cream cheese, lemon, chocolate chip, pistachio with a brown butter icing, and banana! each cupcake had their respective fillings inside, and were all frosted in their white buttercream on the outside. i loved that you can mix and match! my favorite was the pistachio with brown butter icing, the contrast between the nutty cake and the slightly salty icing was soooo good. my boyfriend's favorite was the banana cake with cream cheese frosting, which wasn't too sweet and had a nice tang from the cream cheese. i would highly recommend icing on the cake! read more

I wanted a cake for my birthday and this is the only place I wanted to get a cake from. Thankfully they still had a small 6inch banana cake..They were also able to write happy birthday on it for me. For being a busy place, they all worked so fast to help everyone. The staff was very kind to my toddler as well. She was very excited to be in new bakery. As soon as you walk in, you'll be hit with the incredible scents of freshly baked goods. You'll see a sea of greeting cards and cute knick knacks available for purchase. Everything in the store is very cutesy and colorful. If you look to the right you will see a ticketing system similar to those in a deli. Its not clear if you still need to wait in line if you've preordered and prepaid for a cake but I did anyway. Service was ok. I asked someone if I needed to wait in line if I had already purchased a cake over the phone. The worker said she didn't know the answer. I also asked that same worker for help because the numbering system was stuck and I wasn't able to pull a number. The worker had the same response of not knowing how to fix the number dispenser. When I came to pick up my cake on a busy Sunday morning, I was pretty disappointed by the result. None of the directions I asked for were correct but I guess all that really matters is the taste. But more on that later. I requested for " a smiski bit older" in small green colored font at the lower bottom half of the cake with no piped frosting decor, just simple style. They wrote down about half of what I asked for on their invoice receipt so the cake was not at all what I was expecting. Instead they wrote the letters in big font across the middle of the cake so my plan to put smiski figurines on top of the cake was ruined. Banana cake with cream cheese frosting- The banana cake was more of the crumbly side- similar to a loaf or banana bread. I do wish it was more moist and spongy like in consistency like a normal cake. The frosting was sweet, more sugar forward than cream cheese. The cake held up well even after 3 days without getting too dry. We enjoyed the cake per the instructions of letting it get to room temperature for one hour. The banana cake itself was good- not mind blowing but a decent option when Asian flavor cakes get a bit repetitive. I wouldn't expect too much from the custom designs here. read more

IOC reached out and apologized for the cake quality. However, they noted cake consistency can change from time to time as the banana composition changes from shipment to shipment. The manager said she would look into QC and thanked me for bringing this to their attention. They offered bakery credits but that wasn't necessary or accepted. I just wanted them to know and hopefully address my valid concern. Bumping up my review to 4 stars, I appreciate the follow-up nothing is perfect. I'll continue to frequent this spot. Beware if you have Celiac Desease and order gluten free. My mother ordered a dozen (or so) cupcakes for my daughters High School graduation party. Four of the dozen were supposed to be gluten free. When my mother arrived to pick up the cupcakes the row of four were labeled as "vegan". When she pointed it out and said that she actually ordered gluten-free not vegan the worker told her "oh we just labeled it incorrectly those ARE gluten-free." My daughter didn't finish half a cupcake before she had a reaction. My daughter isn't gluten-free because of a diet trend, she has celiac disease. I called this bakery twice yesterday regarding a custom birthday cake. During the first call, I asked about pricing, timing, and availability for a 10-inch cake needed for Saturday. During the second call, I explained clearly that I planned to serve the cake on Saturday and pick it up Friday. I was ready to place the order over the phone, but I was told there was no need and that I could simply come in the next day because they only required a 2-day notice. So today, I drove there shortly after opening (around 9:30 AM) to place the order, only to be told they were no longer accepting cake orders for Saturday. When I explained that I had specifically called the day before and was told to come today, the response I received was: "We changed our minds." I completely understand that custom cakes require time and that businesses can only take a certain number of orders. That's not the issue. The issue is misleading customers and showing zero respect for their time. We spent time going through their poorly designed website trying to figure out flavors and colors, made the drive there based on what we were told, and then were dismissed with "we changed our minds." To make it worse, the only solution offered was to order the cake today, pick it up Thursday, refrigerate it, and serve an old cake on Saturday. At this point, it's not even about the cake anymore. We've been going here for banana cake for years! I recently ordered 2 cakes from them for an event, a banana sheet cake and 8in(I think) German chocolate cake. Ordering over the phone was easy and pick up was quick. You can park in the lot in the back and they'll wheel the cakes out to you in cart. Just a heads up, they only accept orders within 30 days of the event date. What a charming bakery! As soon as you walk in you notice how nicely organized and decorated the store is. There's so much to see in the store while you decide what to indulge in. With such a vast array of options, we're already planning our return visit. The service was exceptionally friendly and accommodating, answering all our questions with a smile. We inquired about the difference between the banana cake and the banana cupcake. They explained that both use the same recipe, but the cupcake has more cream cheese frosting. We opted for the cake, which, while not as fresh as we'd hoped, still tasted amazing. The true star of our visit was the Peanut Butter Cream Pie! WOW! I've heard so much about this bakery - specifically the banana cake. I've been meaning to try it out on multiple occasions for YEARS now but I either never made it during opening hours or just got sidetracked by other things. BUT NOW THAT DAY HAS FINALLY COME. I wandered in with the sole mission of procuring a slice of this famous banana cake ($6). When I entered the store, I was greeted with a plethora of goodies. They have several vegan options too, so vegans can rejoice! Maybe I'll give that a try next time. Staff was very friendly and helped me immediately upon entry. I lasered in on the banana cake, but then the ginger molasses cookie ($4) caught my eye, so I caved in and got that too. The banana cake, as promised, was delightful. I found it to be very moist and loved how the banana flavor wasn't too overwhelming. I also didn't mind the cream cheese frosting because it wasn't a super thick layer! The cookie though, was very underwhelming. I didn't really taste much of the ginger molasses flavor. It's very faint and I got an aftertaste of baking soda/powder. This place is pretty busy so make sure to grab your number from the machine once you go in. There's no actual line, so it's a little confusing if you've never been in there before. It felt chaotic to me inside. If I wasn't with people that knew what to do, I would've been standing there for awhile just waiting. It's not completely clear at first to get a number, and staff didn't say anything at all to those that walk in. I was told they do cakes and bigger things, and they have a parking long in the back so that you're not walking far with a gigantic order. Dark choc brownie was rich, fudgy with a smooth layer of chocolate on top. Banana bread with walnuts also good, no artificial flavors and a nice crumb topping. Molasses cookie is nicely spiced, tender center and crisp edged. Nothing was cloyingly sweet. Dreamy.
