I came in on a whim thanks to all the great Yelp reviews and a few hours to kill before my hair appointment in Hollywood. First off, the store is very clean, classy and well organized. I had popped into a few other shops and started to get that "Walmart Sensation" where I felt like I wanted to slather my body in hand sanitizer every time I touched something. I was greeted by Ara who was incredibly patient and attentive while I explained my long winded situation. He showed me several settings that met the requirements that I wanted, and even let me take some snapshots so that I could show my Fiance who was assisting with the decision making via Skype since he was not in the same country. I had explained that we had the possibility of estate stones that we would like to use and he even showed me a comparable stone so I could get an idea of what the stone might look like. I did end up using the estate stones, but because of circumstances out of our control, got them later than I was expecting which made it nearly impossible to swap settings. That being said, given the incredible, non-pushy, customer service and follow-up Ara gave me, I would absolutely come back for future jewelry needs. We kind of went backwards. We eloped first and got the ring a lot later. Thank god we didn't buy a cheap ring just for the wedding in Vegas. The rings we got here are the first rings of ours. And both our rings are absolutely beautiful and they are even better than what we wanted so we can't be happier. This place was introduced to us by my hubby's sister and her husband. They got married about two months later than we did. I never got a closer look at my sister-in-law's ring, but hey, it looks beautiful and they are happy with it, so it's great. I came here with a soon-to-be-wedded couple so we could pick up their rings on the way to a party. We're all deaf, and as soon as we walked in, Raffi recognized the couple and got out paper and pen, ready to use if needed. As it turned out, the groom's ring wasn't ready, and he wrote down how embarrassed and sorry he was that it wasn't ready on time. The wedding's still five months away, so no big deal, but we were surprised at how genuinely sorry he was for this lapse in timeliness. He threw in a whole jewelry cleaning kit thingy for free, and gave the groom a better-than-most stainless steel ring (it's included with the official groom's ring...a ring for vacation or hard work if the guy wants to look married but doesn't want to risk losing the ring). The bride had a custom-made wedding band to match her unique, rather sizable engagement ring, and it looks gorgeous. Raffi was SO nice throughout the whole process. The place is amazing, a real gem (pun intended) among dozens of boring jewelry stores. I live in San Diego but when it's my turn to get married, I'm driving 100+ miles to this place, no question about it. For obvious reasons I had to wait until after I proposed to my girlfriend (now fiance) to write this review! NO SPOILERS! Buying a ring is a terrifying thing. I should know, I've canvassed many ring shops trying to find the right ring and each time I felt overwhelmed, pressured, and confused. When I finally decided to go with Icing on the Ring, I was as nervous as could be. After describing the ring I wanted to buy her (the one she unknowingly selected on the website) Vic, my new diamond guy, explained to me that I overlooked the fact that the price did not include the center stone! HOLY CRAP. Any other jeweler would scoff and put someone down but Vic calmed my anxiety and we explored our options. We were still able to get the ring at a reasonable price. One thing about the experience that I loved is that Vic gave us a "Diamond 101." Being that I have never done this before he was able to explain to me what I am buying and why. I even got to pick out the center stone. He also informed me to get the ring a size up to avoid humiliation and disappointment in the unlikely event that I might have a smaller measurement! After much research, she had a picture in her mind of what she wanted, but we weren't finding anything quite right at any jewelry stores. Rather than finding a ready-made match to what she was looking for, they ended up custom-making her wedding band by going off an existing model and modifying it to blend more closely with her engagement ring. With the quality of the diamonds and all of the work involved, the price sounded too good to be true. But sure enough, we came in to pick it up weeks later and it was perfect, exactly what she had been looking for. Bottom line, my ring is out of this world. Icing on the Ring did a beautiful job with my engagement ring. Granted, my fiancé is an architect and extremely artistic so he deserves partial credit but the execution and diamond are top quality. I would imagine that if you weren't very creative, they would be able to guide the process and help you. They have tons of rings on display! I went to their store for the first time for the annual cleaning and inspection. This is "required" as a portion of your warranty. Um, my mom's ring is from Tiffany's and she has to PAY for them to clean her ring! Everyone was super friendly and helpful! We looked at wedding bands and they knew we wouldn't buy that day but still spent 15+ minutes showing us options and making suggestions. I constantly receive compliments like "that is my ideal engagement ring!" Or "wow - your ring is just so sparkly!" It's amazing and I love it. This place... You dont find too many companies like this one around anymore. I can go on and on about how amazing this place is (Please see Harrison A. review) but I would like to speak about my most recent experience. So my fiance is amazing and spent all this time and almost a years worth of effort creating/designing my gorgeous ring. So you can imagine how devastated I was when I slammed my hand down (very hard and several times) on a glass table and dented the platinum on my ring; but because my ring has diamonds on all three sides of my band I bent the band too! I was a mess, crying everything I felt AWFUL! The ring was still wearable but it wasnt in its pristine condition anymore. My Fiance (although not thrilled with me) emailed Vic asking if they would be able to fix it and when. I was willing to recast the whole thing if thats what it meant I just wanted it fixed like brand new. Vic assured my husband to be that they could fix it one way or another but that they would need to see the ring. My Fiance brought the ring and Vic offered to meet my fiance downstairs so he didnt have to pay for parking and to save time (he brought the ring to Vic when he was working so he needed to come and go quickly). Within 3 hours my fiance got a call from Vic saying the ring was fixed and good as new. I couldn't believe that they fixed it that fast and we didnt even have to wait to bring it in. We brought it in the very next day it was damaged. My ring looks BRAND NEW like the day I got it, like nothing happened. My fiance went to go pick it up and AGAIN Vic met him downstairs and gave him the ring. So lets recap: 1. brought ring in the next day the damage happened 2. met my fiance downstairs 3. finished work within hours 4. got ring back the same day and the work was amazing AND they didnt charge us for a thing (which was so nice of them). While I don't have a lot of experience shopping for jewelry, I couldn't have asked for a better experience than at this store. I had a stone but needed a setting and to have it set. Everyone I interacted with at the store was extremely polite and helpful; for my purchase my fiancé and I specifically worked with Ani who went above and beyond to help. Although I ordered my ring ~3-4 weeks in advanced (custom made) from the manufacturer, it did not arrive on time for my engagement which was somewhat disappointing (Not the fault of Ani or Icing on the Ring, it was out of their hands and at the mercy of the manufacturing process). Ani was however able and willing to set my stone in a temporary setting free of charge for me to use for the engagement which I could not be more grateful for. Their in house jeweler Garo (who can also custom fabricate any design of your choosing) is a very pleasant man to speak with and fantastic to watch work. He is a true artist. When my now fiancé asked if I wanted to go shopping for a ring, I said OF COURSE! He did his research, and so we headed downtown to IOTR. We were greeted by Salpie, who was absolutely AMAZING!! I had done my research regarding the 4 Cs, but Salpie took it to a whole new level. She let me try on any and everything I wanted, and that was pretty much every single Halo and Double Shank ring they had. After finding the 3 that I liked, she informed us, that since all rings are custom, they could combine all 3 into my 1 dream ring. We then went into her office to look through diamonds for the center setting. We were given a full on lesson of the 4 Cs. We looked at at least 20 diamonds, before finding the perfect one. What I didn't know, when I went to the restroom, the ring was ordered. It took a little over 2 weeks to get the ring. When I came to pick it up, I was assisted by other members of the family, who were all very friendly and helpful. I get the biggest compliments on my ring. And I find myself staring at it every day. They made the process of turning my engagement ring into my wedding ring very easy. He spent a great deal of time with us that first day, and we never felt pressured to use them or make a haste decision. Vic remembered us when BH and I came in again to re-inspect their settings. That was a wonderfully nice touch - it really speaks a lot about their customer service. We had just come in from Balian & Sons, and I wanted to see if their wares compared. They did, but in my humble opinion, the settings were not as unique as Balian but were still absolutely beautiful and stunning. But what really set IOTR apart from other stores was their warranty. Not only do they have a warranty for their settings and the stones in the settings, but also the CENTER stones. You definitely don't hear that at ANY of the other stores in downtown LA. Not even Bridal Rings could compare. You only get warranties like that at overpriced-stores-with-crappy-wares like Kay's, Zales, Ben Bridge, etc. Their setting prices are a little higher than places like Balian & Sons and Pop Gems, but because their warranty is so amazing, BH and I believe it's well worth the extra cost (which really isn't that much when it comes to peace of mind)! All you have to do is bring back the ring once a year (totally doable) for inspection, and your ring is basically in wonderful hands. This place is awesome. read more
