In the nine months that I've lived in Denver, I've been a frequent patient at Icon. I have genetically cruddy teeth (was born with poor enamel) so at 35, despite caring for them diligently, I have experienced a LOT of dental issues over the years. I have also had run-ins with unethical dentists who perform poorly. (Last year, a dentist in Chicago performed a shoddy root canal on one of my teeth that left it structurally unsound, and dictated I pay $3,500 out of pocket for a tooth extraction & dental implant.) It is safe to say that I came to Icon with a LOT of dental related PTSD. Dr. Tarjan is great at what she does and possesses a fantastic bedside manner - she put me at ease from day one. After a very long & frustrating process (almost 6 months in temporary crowns on my 3 front teeth!) working with my previous dentist I decided to go to someone else. I went for a consult (not cheap, I think it was something like $125 just to discuss my options but by this point I needed someone who knew what they were doing) & decided to use Dr. Tarjan for my crown replacements. She was friendly, she knew what she was talking about & recommended I see a periodontist before we moved forward because my gums had been very red & puffy for as long I had my previous crowns (almost 5 years). I figured that's just how crowns were & I just lived with it. She immediately said that they were set very high under my gums & that was likely the reason for the inflammation but wanted to be sure it wasn't something else. After the go ahead from a periodontist, I scheduled my appt. The office is fancy, like TV's on the ceiling fancy! Honestly I would pay the extra cost for a litlte luxury, especially in a dental setting as my most traumatic memories are in a dentists chair. Everyone on staff is kind, friendly, & it seems like the "assistants" know a lot more than other dental assistants. The impressions, making temporaries, shots, & x-rays were all pretty standard. Those things are never going to be fun or relaxing but I was pleased with the care & precision of all of them. Especially since I was able to watch HGTV then whole time! It took 2 weeks for my new crowns to be made & I was very happy with the end result. They look very natural, the color is impeccable, & my gums look normal & pink in just 2 days! I'm pretty sure you pay a little extra that most offices but it is completely worth it to feel like you are in good hands & that they will take care of your teeth. After all, teeth don't grow back! The only thing I found frustrating was the parking situation. Because they are located right downtown, it's kind of a hassle. They do have a few (4 maybe?) designated spots in a lot just around the corner & if you are lucky enough to get one of those, good luck getting through the alley (it was blocked with loading trucks), then good luck trying to get out of the spot (really, really tight). If there aren't any available, you can use a meter on the street (not easy to find usually) or a garage across the street which is quite pricey. I paid $22 for 2 hours! I'm glad I chose someone who specialized in cosmetic dentistry because when it comes to your front teeth, they are practically priceless. I will recommend this office to my friends & anyone looking for a great dentist! read more

I had a crown replaced. For 1 1/2 years I asked the doctor to look at the area as it was very painful. "Nothing wrong, we'll just keep watching it". Finally switched dentists and the first thing of note was the crown was not fitted properly. A few minutes to file it and no more problem. Add insult to injury I received notification TWO YEARS later that they send my account to collections. When I called to ask what the $108 was for - no response. I found Icon Dental when I moved to Denver 3 years ago. On my first visit, I knew I wouldn't go to any other dentist. Even as they've grown, yes they're saving many more teeth than when I first started going, they still recognize me, remember conversations we had a few years ago, oh and they're simply the best when it comes to cleanings and procedures. My daughter's wedding was in a few months and they found an issue with a front tooth. It was a tooth that had a root canal many years ago and couldn't be saved. I was worried because I had to sing at my daughter's wedding and I couldn't whistle my way through the song through the hole in my mouth. They took good care of me, there was no whistling, and the implant that I have is perfect! read more

I requested a broken cap to be glued back and Icon Dental refused to perform this procedure. I did find a dentist and the cap is still glued without any issues for several months. I can just assume this office wanted to perform a more expensive procedure. read more

I've been going to Icon Dental for a couple of years. Initially I had a good experience, the cleanings were good, but it seems like you never saw the same hygienist. At one of my last cleanings it was suggested that I get a filling removed and crown put in its place. This tooth had never caused me any issues, but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry. I had an uneasy feeling from the start. I was surprised to see the dentist do so little. The assistant was pretty much in charge. After the numbness wore off, my tooth was throbbing. I ended up needing to have a root canal. Not blaming the dentist for this, but this tooth had never bothered me before. Skip to a month ago, I went in for my 6mo. cleaning, I'm thinking everything's good. None of my teeth are causing any issues. Then the dentist comes in and starts listing all this work that needs to be done, which included 2 new crowns and replacing my silver fillings. I felt that I was being scammed and was being told I needed work that wasn't necessary. I listened to my instincts and went to my former dentist (changed for insurance reasons) and none of the crowns need to be replaced, only one filling is needed and the other silver fillings are fine. I would much rather got to dentist that is honest and pay out-of-network, than do a bunch of unnecessary dental work. Icon dental if fine for cleanings, but I would steer clear of "recommended" dental work. read more

Great place for dentist exam. It had been two years since last time I had gone to a dentist. A lot of dentists in the past have found numerous issues they wanted to complete. This dentist office identified issues but did not pressure me to get things done right away, but will keep an eye out for when it is necessary to have the procedure done, which I feel is honest and definitely helps with the budget. With what I did have done, they let me know right away what my insurance would pay for and the quality of work and staff is outstanding! Nice cozy office with great view of city. I previously had my teeth cleaned here and it was a great experience but then I was told I needed three fillings so I scheduled an appointment to come back. Needless to say it was the worst dental experience I have ever had... To start things off the numbing injections were extremely painful, and my tongue was nicked in the process but neither the dentist or assistant acknowledged it. My old fillings were then removed and the Dental assistant was left to do my new fillings. I have never had fillings that were not done by the dentist themselves so I thought this was a little strange. During the removal there was constantly water spraying in my face and the suction was being stabbed into my gum. Then when the assistant did my fillings a block was placed in my mouth but i was never allowed to rest my jaw throughout the hour. After the procedure my left side was numb up to my eye for over four hours, as well as my entire tongue. I was unable to open my jaw more than a half inch wide for a few days following the fillings so I figured I would wait but it didn't get any better. I called to let them know what was going on and got a call back from the dentist who prescribed me a muscle relaxant and a steroid and said she would check in on me in two to three days. It has now been two weeks since the procedure, she never called me back and I still cant open my mouth wider than two fingers and have pain chewing on my left side where the fillings were done...I spoke with my previous dentist who told me they never should have left the block propped for that long without letting my jaw rest and I will probably have to have my fillings redone as well. I would suggest finding a different dentist! read more

I have had two visits with Icon and I am extremely impressed. The office itself is an amazing space, very comfortable and clean and well-appointed. Customer service is on point. When my hygienist was walking me back to my exam room, EVERY employee we passed smiled and said hello to me. And everyone who has worked with me directly has been super friendly and thorough, explaining things clearly and asking if I have any questions about the process. On my first visit, they found some issues since I hadn't had a dental visit in a while. They made up a comprehensive plan including charges, and walked me through the whole thing, including information on what was and was not covered by my insurance. I really appreciated the transparency here, as offices can tend to be indirect around this topic or tack on weird extra charges. No surprises here! On my most recent visit I had some fillings done quickly and easily, no pain or stress. At the end they even sent me off with a cute Christmas goodie bag of treats! No one really likes going to the dentist, but they make it pretty dang enjoyable here. read more

I went for my cleaning about a month ago, and the office smelled horribly of a chemical fragrance. It smelled more like a Febreeze factory than a dentist's office, and it blasted me in the face the second I opened the door. I asked the receptionist what the pungent odor was, and she told me that they were using a chemical scent diffuser machine to cover up a bad sewage smell. I was unable to stay for my appointment, and the smell gave me a bad headache. They told me they would remove the fragrance machine and get back to me to reschedule once the office had aired out, but I never heard back from anyone. read more

Far and away the best dentist I've ever been to. Even with all my dental issues, everyone at ICON makes me feel comfortable and relaxed. From the moment you walk they want to make you feel good. Coffee or water. Light conversation. And then semi private areas to discuss your teeth. It's also really nice that they let you know, every step of the way, what it is they are doing. I've long been afraid of the dentist. As the proud owner of weak British teeth, every visit can be a terrifying experience. But then I took a chance and called Icon Dental. From the very first call, Dr. Tarjan's staff has been warm, friendly and knowledgeable. The space is welcoming, clean and stylish and it is obvious that the comfort of patients was a priority in opening their clinic. When I went back and got comfy, well as comfy as can be expected, in the dental chair, Dr. Tarjan took the time to get to know me and talked through my dental history and my concerns. Yup, This is definitely as good as it gets. I guarantee it!!!! After years of crazy experiences. I became completely paralyzed with anxiety about finding a new dentist. When I was referred to Dr Tarjan I reluctantly called to schedule an appointment. I went in a complete skeptic and left knowing that I had just found my forever dentist. Since then, I have returned several times. Each time I am greeted by Michelle. Michelle is wonderful. She bends over backwards to make sure things are handles with my insurance and that I understand everything. Thank You so much for that. Dr. Tarjan is AMAZING! When I first met her she talked to me in detail about all of my concerns. I am sure she was quite exhausted when she finally finished with me. Wow. I have been to Icon twice now - once for my check up and cleaning and once to get a few cavities filled. After my cleaning, they gave me what I thought was a standard-issue post-dentist visit grab bag of tooth-related goodies. But I actually just looked in the bag TODAY (weeks later) to find that it included a hand-written thank you card from the dentist, addressed to my name. I was a fan of Icon before noticing that but that sent me over the edge and I came straight to Yelp to give them a 5-star rating. Overall, in addition to a great location and cute/comfy office, the staff is absolutely phenomenal. They are incredibly nice and I feel that my experience with them has been very personal. I have a colleague that goes to Icon as well and in comparing notes we are both over-the-top satisfied.
