So, I LOVE Dr. Tarjan and her staff. What I love just as much as all of them is the service you get when coming here. I truly get excited to go to the dentist. Who can say that?! I have been going here for a little over a year and I will never go anywhere else. I am always greeted with a smile and true warmth and that warmth continues throughout the appointment. I am immediately brought back at my appointment time, so I am able to schedule around my crazy work schedule. Dr. Tarjan is so great about telling me what she is doing and why she is doing it. I had some large metal fillings, from when I was a kid, that ended up cracking my teeth. She not only took them out, but then re-filled them with composite and guess what... it didn't hurt at all! She uses a topical numbing agent before she numbs the nerve and even when that wore off my bite felt perfectly normal and I went straight back to work with no hesitation. On a even higher note, I recently got engaged and I was so excited to tell all the girls at Icon Dental. They were all so excited for us and asked me the story of how he did it and ooed and awed over my ring. How great of a feeling. THEN, Dr. Tarjan informed me that they do FREE TEETH WHITENING for their brides and grooms! This review is getting a little long, but I could go on and on. Friendly staff and clean environment. The first time I came in for an appointment it took two hours for a routine cleaning and x-rays, which was crazy to me but I figured it was just an off morning. The second time I came for some sealants and had to wait 25 min for the dentist which was particularly irritating considering the parking situation. I was told the process would take 30 minutes total and I was there for two and a half hours. I was also told there were zero complications so I assume they wanted me to spend the $$$ ASAP on their overpriced services by getting me in the door telling me it was a very easy and short procedure. The dentist didn't even come to check my sealants at the end. I would do your research and compare this place to others before you come in, I really wish I had. read more

Pretty high tech with different options. I like that they don't push services on you that you don't need. I wish the dentists/staff were a little more experienced, but that's generally the trade off. I was also kind of disappointed the dentist didn't do my filling (the technician did) or that they were unable to put fillings where I have tooth sensitivities as my dentist in SF was able to. I typically don't take time to write reviews, but, the experience with this dental provider has motivated me to tell of my experience. In short, beyond having some extremely rude employees, this provider pushes questionably necessary procedures and will not consult with the patient for the treatment plan to take. In fact, they won't even ask your permission before doing procedures such as taking X-rays (a first of any provider I have ever seen). A little over a year ago while visiting this dental provider I was told based on X-Rays that I should see a specialist due to what appeared to be nerve damage in one tooth. The thought of a root canal did not sound like fun, so, I asked Dr. Tarjan what would happen if I did nothing. Without a hint of humor she responded, "it could become infected and you could die". Like wow, it's not every day I get a life and death prognosis from my dentist. I laughed it off, but, this was the first time I got the feeling that they absolutely wanted me to go see a specialist (they recommended) and no other option should be considered. A year later during a scheduled cleaning they performed a gum examination. I have had gum issues my entire adult life so I have been quite familiar with process. The dental assistant refused to do a cleaning because, in her opinion, I needed a "deep cleaning" which, of course, costs more money and requires I come back to the office again. I was very confused as to why my gums would have deteriorated so severely since when I had seen them 6 months earlier. Dr. Tarjan then came for the examination. After looking at my mouth she just wanted to talk about root canals again. After talking about this again for a bit, she said, "i will leave you to get your cleaning". Oops.. I guess Dr. Tarjan didn't get the memo that I was being upsold a "deep cleaning". Feeling that something was fishing, when the assistant came back I questioned why the deep cleaning was necessary and at this point the assistant became extremely rude and refused any option for service other than a deep cleaning. Dr. Tarjan came back and parroted this assessment this time around. I found it telling that she did not do any further examination of my mouth. I left and told them I would get a second opinion to confirm my intuition that they were being overzealous in their treatment plan. So, I have just returned from a different dental provider (with better reviews than Icon Dental) and without any prompting from the backstory I was told after the exam, "your gums look great, let's clean your teeth and get you out of here". The other thing I noticed at this other provider is that they actually asked me if they could do an X-Ray. I told them no since my insurance just paid Icon for this and asked if i could just email them the images from a month earlier. That was beyond fine. Also, this other provider was more strict than Icon Dental in terms of Covid precaution and procedure. We were asked to wait outside and first taken to an area of the office for Covid screening and cleaning hands. The number of people I interacted with was less overall. And, of course, I was not asked to come back for another questionably necessary appointment which would have doubled risk of virus exposure. read more

Is there such a thing as being too good?! lol. I found Icon last year when looking for a walkable dentist that took my insurance. I have had a positive experience every time. The front desk person is SO friendly and helpful when calling with questions. I do think it was 'oversold' on a few things that I have never been suggested to me by other dentists such as the mouthwash, toothpaste and a gum treatment but in the end if its going to help my pearly whites last well into my 90's I am fine with the out of pocket expense. I never felt pressured to buy any of the "extra services or products" but was asked a few times, all of the hygienists are SUPER nice and if they are using the products then why not (they always rave about their results)!?! zero stars. stay clear of this dentist. do not believe the recommended work. get a second opinion or better, go to another dentist. when they say the insurance approved the work do not believe them unless they can show you the approval. they are botching up the work they do and creating issues with your teeth to make claims. they will also submit a claim knowing the work will not be approved but tell you it is approved before they have gotten approval so you will agree to the work. read anything you sign. this is a shady and dishonest practice. read more

Everyone at this practice is super friendly! It was pretty easy to get in, it's very high-tech, and the office is beautiful. Their staff is easy to work with and has pretty good customer service skills. However, Icon is a pretty big practice, and you may not meet with Dr. Tarjan, as they have another dentist on staff. In fact, you may not really see the actual dentist for long-- usually about 5-10 minutes at the end of your appointment or a bit longer if you're having fillings (apparently only dentists can remove enamel). You spend most of your time with the hygienist and the dental assistant. Unfortunately, you will probably not see any of the same people more than once, even if you come in for post-op needs as I did, which I think is a mistake on the practice's part as you have to re-explain everything to the new staff each time. My main complaint is that they don't seem to take patients at their word. I came in with no pain at all and was told I needed several cavities filled. No big deal, that has happened to me before. I got the cavities filled, and then spent the next few months with multiple appointments trying to get my bite back to a point where it wouldn't hurt me anymore. The staff seemed to doubt that there was anything wrong with my bite and seemed perplexed. When the dentist (with the best of intentions!) widened the space between two teeth so I could floss better (her idea, not my request), something happened and that tooth became incredibly sensitive. Even after X-rays, they seemed to not believe that this tooth 1) didn't hurt me before they started working on it, and 2) that there was anything wrong with it at all. Staff pushed back when I told them that I believed they were responsible, as it only started becoming sensitive immediately after they widened the space. They decided that I would need to see a root canal specialist, and at that point I chose to get a second opinion. The doctor at the new practice told me I needed three crowns, two of them on teeth this practice worked on and one of them on the aforementioned sensitive tooth, as well as needing fillings replaced. This was never brought up at Icon. Essentially, I walked into their practice for the first time with absolutely no pain, looking for a checkup, and almost eight months later, I have an extremely sensitive tooth and need to get major dental work done. I recommend this spot because they are very friendly and high-tech, and if you don't need a lot of dental work or follow-up, I think this practice would be really great. It was easy to schedule with ZocDoc (again, you may not meet with the dentist they say you will), and it was really conveniently located for me. For some reason they're offering Botox now, too. My experience was just poor. read more

Got my teeth cleaned and the hygienist was very nice, he didn't pressure me to purchase any toothpaste products of theirs (I did anyway). I hadn't been to the dentist in an embarrassing length of time. I knew I had to get my wisdom teeth removed and possibly needed some other work done that I was doing some intense procrastination on. It was finally time and Icon Dental kept popping up on my search. Michelle answered and instantly put me at ease. She got me an urgent appt for the very next day(bc I was having some pain). She was also there when I checked in and was so sweet and welcoming. The nurse/assistant came to do X-rays and the doctor to check out the afflicted area. Everyone I came in contact with was so nice and made me feel right at home in what is typically an uncomfortable atmosphere. The whole appt took 30 mins and I was out of there feeling a whole lot better about future Icon Dental experiences. read more
