I'm extremely detail oriented and particular, and Ideal Cut is a hidden gem of quality + value. The shop itself is plain -- don't let that fool you. The handiwork is awesome and the prices are incredibly reasonable specifically because (1) genuine honesty, and (2) lack of insane real estate overhead and working capital that any other jeweler with a flashy showroom prices into the markups they pass onto customers. Tan does truly amazing work (both in custom designs and repairs) - work many other jewelers told me couldn't be done. 1) He repaired/fixed up my vintage engagement ring, which is at least 70 years old. The ring has delicate cut outs on the base, so you can see through it. A few months ago, I took it to another jeweler in town (Treasure Trove) mistakenly filled in one of the holes. A number of jewelers in town told me they couldn't fix it, and they didn't want to touch the ring at all because it was so delicate and they couldn't put heat to it. Tan uses lasers so he fixed it with no problems - in less than a day. He also worked to fill in the top and make it more uniform (when it had been damaged from years of wear). Finally, he also re-rhodium'd the ring and shined it up so it looked brand new. 2) Tan created a brand new wedding ring to match the vintage ring perfectly. He uses computer technology and scanned in the design, and created a digital image of the ring. He 3D printed a rubber ring so I could see what it would look like on, and then made it in only a week. Again, other jewelers had told me they weren't sure how it would turn out, and they couldn't guarantee the ring would look like what I wanted, but Tan's work came with all of the assurances of the computer technology and rubber 3D print. It also was flawless - he was able to re-create the cut outs from the engagement ring so they aligned perfectly and looking through you can see straight through (pictures attached). This is truly delicate work and I didn't think it could be done. On top of all this - the prices were significantly less than other places. I will be coming here for all of my future jewelry needs, and suggest you do as well! read more

Tan custom designed my engagement ring and 1 year later, I am just as happy with my ring as the day I got it. I sent Tan a few styles for inspiration and it was easy to work with him to make adjustments to the design. We communicated entirely through email with a few visits to the store so I could further customize the design in person. I had an excellent experience getting a necklace repaired at Ideal Cut Jewelers. The very fine chain on my sterling silver necklace had snapped and required soldering. The proprietor quoted me a very reasonable price for the repair, said he could do it in 30 minutes, and when I returned, it was ready (and even polished!). Having had less positive experiences getting inexpensive (but meaningful to me) jewelry repaired at 'fine jewelry' merchants, I am pleased to have found a fine jewelry establishment that treated me superbly even for my minor repair. First, the owner Tan is amazing! I was out for a walk at lunchtime and stopped in to check out the new jewelry store close to my office. Everything was beautiful and the owner was very kind and attentive. I began discussing an old pair of $20 Zara earrings that I was considering having remade. Since I was wearing them, he was able to look at them and provide me with an on the spot quote to remake them in 14k gold with cubic zirconia. That day I gave him the earrings and in less than a week he called to let me know that the custom pieces were ready! They turned out perfect and I couldn't be happier! Absolutely five stars. Tan was able to custom make the most lovely cuff links in less than three days. He has a 3-d CAD design system that allows him to design the jewelry on a computer, so I saw an image of exactly what the cuff links would look like. Then, he creates a 3D printed copy, right in his shop, so I was able to actually see a 3D plastic version. He custom ordered the yellow and white diamonds I wanted--overnight.
