We just completed a project with IDEL and I I would characterize my feeling as "very satisfied." It all started when I posted a request for a custom cabinet/bookshelf builder on Angi's list and IDEL responded promptly. From the very beginning, they were very reliable and sensitive to my needs. I had a unique situation whereby I needed two custom bookcases built into an existing space. Dennise contacted me and scheduled a visit immediately. The IDEL designer (Edward), came out and was very professional. He took all of the measurements and, within a short period of time, presented me with a CAD design prototype view. At every step of the project, they kept me informed. They were very diligent in making sure they were building exactly what I requested. They called me to their shop to view the progress of the product on two occasions. They met every milestone to my satisfaction. The installation crew were very skilled and experienced. To be perfectly candid, I saw a few of the negative reviews about IDEL. I ignored them and decided to give IDEL a chance and I'm glad I did. Like others have said, working with Dennise and Edward is a frustrating. Other than bad communication, not showing up, empty promises, there were bad measurements, and just craziness like overhearing arguments with her and her workers. Then the unthinkable, one worker was mad and cut the hoses to our dishwasher, refrigerator and stove after he self imploded from ruining two expensive counter top slabs. When I told Denise, she just said, "well he doesn't work here any more" and wasn't interested in replacing the counter tops. She never returned my calls after that and we had to have another company redo the counter tops. Now, four months later, several cabinets are cracking. Dennise won't return my calls. I just looked up the contractors license number for IDEL. It appears the license is currently suspended. And don't look at reviews prior to 2019. Zero Stars! I feel obligated to let potential customers know how horrible this company is, to save others from going through the nightmare I have gone through. And be sure to check the dates on any good reviews, as this company changed hands around 2021and they now hire incompetent, unskilled and unlicensed labor to do very serious work. Not sure I'd believe any recent good review either because one company I consulted with to fix all Idel's mistakes said they had also worked other projects Idel had botched, so my disaster is definitely not a one-off. For starters, not once in the many months they were here, did anyone show up for a meeting on time or to work on time, and also had several no-shows by the owners, causing me to miss work and other appointments, to try to accommodate them. The original quote for an entire large master bath remodel was 5 weeks. it took 8 MONTHS before it was finished and I had to hire others to finish the work and repair all the damage they did. Here are just a FEW of the issues: 1- They did not pay their workers. After 2 weeks on the job, the workers came to me asking for money because they had not yet been paid by Idel, I ended up arranging to pay the workers directly for 4 weeks, then Idel was supposed to continue paying them, but never did. 2- They hired unskilled and unlicensed guys to do electrical and plumbing work, all of which was done incorrectly and I had to hire others to fix. One issue was they installed a new shower head, closed up the shower wall and tiled over it WITHOUT CHECKING TO SEE IF WATER CAME OUT!! It didn't, so the wall had to be torn apart, including all the new tile, for another company to fix the problem. They also installed the tub faucet crooked and at the corner of the tub, causing water to flow on the side, not in the tub. They refused to move it to a correct location because they said there was a gas line in the way, which I found out was a lie when the real plumber came to fix. 3- They botched the entire tile floor, installed tile without cleaning it, sealed in tons of dirt and grime, cracked and stained many tiles, and had to do the grout twice, but they mixed it wrong the second time, so the grout was 2 different colors. They also tested a pearl-like sealant in the middle of the floor instead of on a leftover piece, so now there's a large patch of discolored tile in the middle of the floor. 3- they left off an entire cabinet off the vanity. 4- they damaged other areas of my home- walls, windows, baseboard, wood floors. 5- their worker crashed their van into my truck, causing $3500 in damage, and turned out their driver was UNINSURED! Idel never took responsibility or even apologized. I had to go through my own insurance company. 6- they left mountains of trash with nails and glass, both of my dogs were injured by it. 7- they threw my new $600 toilet out a 2nd story window, busting it to pieces, 8- lost all the window screens. 9- Swept 30 lbs of construction debris into the floor beneath the tub, causing the ceiling in the room below to bow and crack, which had to be repaired by another company. Lastly, I'm the one that got stuck researching and hiring qualified people to fix all this and am now having to go to court to get reimbursed. Kitchen Transformed. Extremely pleased with my new kitchen cabinets. The staff at Idel were professional and courteous and finished the job on schedule. I was a little reluctant at first to hire them given past poor ratings, but considering that most of the posts were a few years old I decided to have them bid the job. I am glad that I did. Their bid was competitive and the workmanship top notch. Elio took his time refinishing the existing oak, which is challenging given the wood grain. And the installers lined up the doors perfectly. High marks. My only real criticism (not enough to drop the rating) was that even after sealing the kitchen from the rest of the house, paint dust found its way into the other rooms and onto the furniture. Nothing that a dust cloth and Pledge couldn't take care of, but you will need to spend some time wiping down your stuff. read more

With the project in an unfinished state, they demanded payment in full, when we pointed out numerous areas that still needed attention, Henry was belligerent and argumentative. Project Manager Chris offered a $300 discount (off of a $5K job) if they could still get a 5-star rating on ServiceMagic, a referral service that introduced us to Henry Belkin and the Idel team of fools. Bottom line up front: Decent workmanship, timely completion, terrible communication, poor workspace management and cleanliness. Idel Designs refinished and painted my kitchen cabinets and installed new countertop. I would not use or refer IDEL Design again. First, I can appreciate an owner that is vested in their own business however interactions with Henry was borderline arrogant. He definitely played on the fact that we needed work done versus encouraging us to choose his company. I do enjoy working with blunt, up front, people because you always know what the bottom line is but I also expect some level of respect which was not specifically felt while working with Henry. An example of this was experienced before agreeing on the job, I was unaware that I needed a plumber to reconnect my kitchen sink. Henry acted as though I should have known this (despite no one ever explaining this to me) and that expecting Idel Designs to reconnect the sink was baffling to him. Second yet probably most important, the level of communication was appalling. Initially, Greg and Henry each conducted a consultation with me for the job. I then received a cost estimate and job agreement form which I quickly returned. After a week, I still had not receive a start date or any communication as to what I could expect. However, after I reached out to both Greg and Henry, they very quickly got back to me and I had a start date within a day. Good communication stopped there. On the start date, the contractors were an hour late with no phone call. Oscar, the project manager, briefed my wife on the plan for the project and deadlines. The workers almost never arrived on time throughout the project. Some workers showed up on days we were not expecting them. We were consistently unsure of the next step or when workers would arrive.  I was very lucky to have a stay-at-home wife with a flexible schedule to support the complete lack of communication. The next issue revolves around the farmhouse sink I had installed. Initially, the sink was installed with the apron extended to 2.5 inches beyond the cabinet face. I asked Oscar to decrease this distance and his response was that was how they always do it. He tried to explain that the 2.5 inch distance was the most common and that it would likely not be possible to adjust it to the way I wanted it. Eventually, the contractors were able to correct to sink to the way I wanted it. The issue I have is the level of difficulty required to have my sink installed the way I wanted it. Also after a couple of Google searches, several websites detailed that aprons are most commonly at .5 to 2 inches extended beyond the cabinet face. Lastly, the level of cleanliness and workspace management was terrible. The job was left with painters tape on several surfaces, the floor still had working paper taped down, there were three small areas that paint had been removed from my cabinets by removing the painters tape, and most importantly there was paint dust everywhere in the kitchen and adjacent rooms. On the good side, the workmanship was good, the workers were all very respectful, and Idel Designs completed the job in the timeframe originally projected. We are pleased with the look of our new(ish) kitchen and happy it was completed so quickly (5 working days). If it was not for these factors the review would have been one star (because zero is not an option). The work they did was worth the two stars and with a bit more communication they easily could have been up in the four or even five star range. I would not use or refer IDEL Design again." read more

Hired Idel to paint existing kitchen and bath cabinet. Very disappointing experience. The paint work was fine but the installation of doors was a nightmare. Sent the painter to install the doors. He hung them so they opened in all different directions; the hinges didn't allow the drawers to pull out. Doors were damaged from all the drilling. 2.5 weeks after the deadline, three drawers still don't pull out correctly and it's clear they don't have the expertise for the job. I've hired someone else to come in and fix it. This on top of poor communication, being stood up several times and lied to. I don't usually post negative reviews, but when the owner told me I was the problem, I think it best to give fair warning to others. read more

Denise said that she can meet me and my client for a free estimate at noon on May 12, 2021. My client and I waited for her at the property. After past noon, I called her to check if she was on her way, she said she was in Tijuana. I find it very unprofessional without letting us know that she couldn't make it. She asked if she could re-schedule and I declined. To me first impression is lasting. If you don't show up on the first appointment, how can I trust you later on. GARBAGE!Had our cabinets done 4yrs ago, had tons of issues with his crew, very unethical, Idel only showed up once I told his workers to pick up their stuff and leave. Issues started in day 1 when no one showed up, until I called to confirm that someone was coming. Workers would come and work for 3hrs, leave unexpectedly--to go finish another job somewhere else, I was told by a worker--, workers were always talking bad about work and supervisors, different workers would show at my door every day, would ask me what had been completed the day before and what needed to be done. Never covered my furniture, wooden floors, or anything from the dust. Would leave their trash and never pick up, not even after a few complaints. Cabinetry was done poorly-we are still paying the consequences of having them done here! Would never confirm when they would come back to continue their work, expected us to be home all the time in case they decided to come to complete their work. Left the toilet sitting on my wooden floors when removed to do the floor there, and they also left some razor knives on my front yard, which caused my infant child to get a cut on her feet--and this is when I asked them to pick up and LEAVE!!! Idel very promptly showed up--had never showed up after I left him several msgs about the horrible job in the cabinetry that I saw his workers being done at my house. I would, if any, get a call from his very rude "right hand"; whose name scapes me; but very arrogant; just to inform me that the workers were doing their best. When our cabinets were completed, I pointed several horrible mistakes, yes, they were covered or fixed; but I just couldn't believe that this was their best work that they could do. To make up for all damages done, Idel gave us a piece of art, that apparently he sells as part of his designs or whatever--ended up gifting it to someone in the community. Im writing this review yrs later because we thought we needed ideal help in order to renew some of our cabinets. I left several msgs for Idel to contact us, and I'm glad we finally decided to go with someone else that is doing repairs on the cabinets and our floors now. The only reason we decided to try to contact Idel again was because this are custom made and if he could at least provide us with some information we needed. Not even a phone call back. I was referred to Henry at IDEL Designs from my aunt and uncle who had extensive flood damage to their Carmel Valley home here in San Diego. Henry's team at IDEL Designs took a great deal of stress away from them and came highly recommended. It was evident the man is passionate about his work with wood and stone, very intense and focused in listening to me and helping me decide. He was so confident when he came to my smaller condo in South Park and took care or my place with certain decisiveness I was not expecting. I hate making decisions about what color goes with what back splash or what counter top color goes with my cabinets it's all just too hard for me. Henry gave me an option that I wasn't expecting and the design and planning was completed without a hitch with Oscar his Autocad expert. The only issue was with things beyond his control like getting the right stove top range combo to fit the tight space. The type of one unit I was looking at to get was no longer available so the project took a bit longer and took a minor tweak to the counter top layout. I didn't have to pay for the work until it was done and even then, Henry and IDEL made me feel special and not rushed when it came to pay the bill. During our house restoration, we had to have our kitchen cabinets refinished and interviewed several cabinet companies. We finally decided on Idel Design because of the quality of their work and attention to detail. Idel Design took apart our cabinet doors, all hardware, and refinished them with three coats of lacquer with sanding! Then they refinished our cabinet boxes, and returned to reinstall everything. The cabinets are finished better than when we had them made! The quality of Henry's company is without peer in my mind and now we have friends using Idel Design. read more

Talk about phenomenal service and quality... First off, as if a remodel is not enough, the last thing I wanted to do was deal with my master bedroom to replace what I could make do with, but the details were driving me nuts. I finally agreed to take care of it so I would't have to deal with it again. I found Idel from a family friend who has the most beautiful wine cellar and entertainment center. Seriously, I'm not a big wine person but if I had the room I would get it just to have. It's something else. Back to my house. I spoke with Henry who provided several options for what could be done. After taking forever to decide (I hate making these big decisions), I finally settled on the material/color I wanted and his team began working on the project. I'm not an easy person to please - I'm picky about every detail, so I was shocked when I had nothing to pick at when they completed (gd that sounds bad). Anyway, they finished within a very timely manner (unlike all the other projects during the renovation). Service was amazing, installers were so nice (non invasive and didn't take too long), and got the job done correctly, just like I asked. Overall, def. would use them again. We had a media cabinet installed by Idel Designs. I met Henry 4 years ago at a home and garden show. I remembered him from there and called up when we wanted to put a cabinet in our built in space. He came over at our convenience on the weekend, brought his IPad to show us all of their installs, and a ton of samples. We picked the samples, and he sent over a design after consulting with us. They did everything we asked, completed on time and Gustavo was our installer. He was fabulous. They did the install on a Saturday at no extra charge to accomodate our busy schedule, and were clean and efficient on the install. They were consultative and custom cut the wiring holes we needed. The workmanship was fabulous, and it looks fantastic. Also they used high quality workmanship for the drawers, and at our request did dovetail for them. They also threw in some extras, we expected mesh on the cabinet fronts and they instead did a flexibile wood design which is much more durable so our little guy doesn't break it. Finally, I was installing a kitchen cabinet during the install, and they saw that I was having a few challenges, so they came to the kitchen and slammed that out for me too no charge - great guys! All in all, an excellent job. If you go to ServiceMagic you will see many more positive reviews. I just wanted to put my experience here on Yelp due to the 1 star reviews I saw here. Also - no upfront charges. They let us see the cabinet in the workshop upon completion, and we didn't write a check until they installed it and we were satisfied. I called the company and described what work I needed done and even sent pictures of the new custom cabinet to be built and another wood work project. They responded and said it would be no problem, provided a quote and sent pics of other custom cabinets they've built similar to mine. When I called back to schedule the job, the price went up a couple hundred dollars, because their jobs start at a minimum rate, however they would honor the initial quote. When they came out, the rep said we can't do the job and plus we have a minimum, which went up an additional $500 dollars from the first minimum they quoted..... I won't be able to comment on their workmanship, because we didn't get that far, but not happy with the inconsistent pricing that was given to me by 3 different individuals and the false assurance of their services. read more

They just finished a kitchen refacing in my La Costa condo on Friday and I am totally pleased. I think Henry is great, he listened to what I needed and quickly came up with an attractive, affordable solution. They started when I was out of town and finished the job in less than a week. Resurfaced the cabinets, made new doors, new counters, etc. and everything is exactly what I was expecting. I am very happy with the work, the kitchen looks 100% better. We did not get the service we requested. We requested that our kitchen cabinets be resurfaced and several drawers that were not closing properly be repaired. What we got was cabinets CLEANED with mineral spirits and drawers that still do not close properly. When we were told they would use mineral spirits we agreed, not knowing that all they do is CLEAN cabinets...we had requested resurfacing. So maybe that is our mistake for not understanding how it works (although what is why we hired a professional), but the drawers STILL do not close properly. One star because zero is not possible. Others have said this but: RUN AWAY. Between the time we committed and they started the project, the owner (the one with a good reputation) sold and is no longer associated. I started to describe details but it turned into a rant so let me just provide this list: 1) don't let these people cut an expensive stone counter. Direct quote after breaking quartzite and an epoxy repair "if you can't feel the crack it's not broken". 2) The new "management" (Dennise) isn't running the show and, in my opinion, hasn't the capacity. Each specialist tells you the next will repair what he broke, or left unfinished. 3) Don't even let these people in your house. They damage each others work and existing installations and paint. They put serious scratches in a brand new stainless steel sink. 4) Days and days go by where they didn't show or popped in at odd times. 5) They don't clean up and left oodles of trash behind. Still washing stale coffee out of trash cans. Left an open container of paint sitting on new concrete work. 6) After the job commences individual workers start telling you how things which were agreed aren't part of the job or can't be done. Did me the "favor" of hooking backup the diswasher and stove. Found disconnected hoses pushed up behind the sink where you couldn't see them. 7) the original sales guy (Ed) tells you "just tell the guys when they come and they'll do it. Then their English gets very vague and they try to avoid things which were promised. 8) Their cabinet refinishing skills - the thing they say they do are not great, no attention to detail. He came over that week and quoted me a competitive price. I was matching a specific material and he found it for me. We hired Idel Design for our kitchen reface remodeling after we had interviewed as many as 10 companies. We had 4 different companies finish our recent home remodeling projects including floor, fireplace, family room, dry wall, water damage, electrician etc. Idel Design was the best one!!! Henry is the owner and he came to our kitchen several times for details. His assistant Oscar is a very experienced and skillful guy who measured our kitchen. Gustavo and his team did the wonderful reface job! Gustavo has over 20 years of experience! Henry's plumber had done a fantastic job too. Henry sent in his specialists and they did all kinds of work for our kitchen. They offered two references when I requested. I visited their clients and saw Idel did a wonderful job for the traditional and modern style kitchen. They did not ask for a deposit before starting the work and did not ask extra money after they finished their job even though they did some extra work for us such as installing the water filter etc. They were very patient with me when I requested to revise the contract several times since I had some bad experience to work with other companies for our home projects last year. That is why I was very cautious about signing the contract with contractors. They started and finished work on time, and the quality of the work is great! They made a beautiful kitchen, fixed our sink problem, fixed our granite counter top crack issue, installed new plumbing and a new water filter, and changed out the range hood for us etc. Their price was very reasonable and much less than other companies. When I requested, they came back to fix the small problems after they had finished their work last months. They did not put it off even though I had already paid off all money for the job. They provided great service before, during and after the remodeling. I strongly recommend Idel Design to everyone! Idel's team is so confident and skillful. It is hard to find a company like Idel Design. The price and quality of the work are best that I have ever seen. We definitely will hire them again if we need to. read more

Mixed reviews, but, in the final analysis, a 2 star rating is fair. The designer that came to our home, Andrea, was excellent, helping us choose materials and colors, etc. the owner, Henry, came too one day. He ended up making extrA commitments that would not increase our costs. That sounded good, even from a gruff man. Soon we found out that he went ahead and changed some of those plans without discussing them with us - disappointing. As time went on, the project dragged out for various reasons. Then we had to begin paying subcontractors directly. When we started to close the project, with quite a few omissions, incomplete items and less than satisfactory work, meaning the agreed upon work was not fully completed or was unsatisfactory, Henry began demanding payment that included things already paid for to various subs. He was even including charges for a few materials that WE actually bought separately - like white cabinet hinges because his guys were using gray on our white cabinets. I can't say he is dishonest, but he changed things and didn't keep up with who already paid what so it looks that way. He also demanded full payment at his new rate before the job was fully completed and for more than the agreed amount. His subs were also VERY messy, leaving trash, sawdust, broken items, and tape, wood pieces, screws and cardboard virtually every work day. If you do not look closely, the whole job looks fairly good, the subcontractors were generally nice, but when something is not fully done, correctly, and are charged unfairly and incorrectly, that stings. Even one "AW SHUCKS" wipes out 10 "attaboys." It was the designer Andrea, that sold the deal or we would clearly have gone elsewhere. I can only say that everyone at this company went above and beyond. They were spot on with the work, craftsmanship, design, cost , time frame. My husband nor myself are very good with design but we do know how to run a multiple companies and everyone from Henry to Oscar made everything you need for kitchen and bath remodel simple and efficient. This guy came to our house to bid for a job. He was condescending and rude and made it a point to say that he usually works in Rancho Santa Fe and La Jolla. So, if you live outside of these two areas, do not hire his miscreant. He caught me so offguard with his demeaning attitude, that I was just shocked. My husband and I are so pleased with our resurfaced cabinets that we wanted to share our experience with others. Henry came out the day after we called to give us a bid. It was far less than the others we had gotten. He was straight-forward in analyzing and assessing our kitchen cabinets. We were so happy to hear that he could replace our old, chipped cabinet faces with new ones in less than two weeks. Other companies told us a month! Henry is a good salesman. I chose IDEL to refinish our kitchen cabinets. The final product is good. The reason for only 2 stars Henry quoted 5-7 business days and it turned out to be 10 days over a 3 weeks. The initial quote included knobs to be installed. My wife decided she wanted handles instead. The quote for handles was $3.50 each. The invoice had them at $3.75 each. The initial quote for soft close hinges was $250. Again the invoice was higher at $260. One small spice rack door (about 4"X25") was created. This was not something originally quoted nor discussed but the price of $178 seemed really high to me. I sent Henry an email about the discrepancies and he emailed back that he would call me to discuss. He never called. On the final day he wanted a check for payment. I tried to use a $1,000 coupon that he would not honor. After discussing these issues for about 30 minutes he agreed to knock off $60, $10 for the handles and another $50 because I wasn't happy with the price. I'm still not happy with the price and if this review helps anyone choose another company then it was worth my time writing it. read more

I started this journey in January and it is July and still not resolved. We hired them because we talked to Henry at a trade show but havent heard from him since. They installed all of our countertops. When they were finished you could write your name in the dirt left on the counters. They were filthy and rough. Then, the cabinets all had streaks in them. They have been out several times to apply a silicone treatment to try to make them look better. I still have a couple left with streaks. I called Oscar and he said send pictures. I did and haven't heard anything back. The only positive in this entire process was Andrea. I really feel like she has tried, yet I still am not happy with the final product. I would recommend getting new cabinets, not refacing and go somewhere else. read more
