We had gyoza which was fried, we would have liked it steamed but it was fine. We wanted to try the shumai but they were out of it. We want so badly to like this place but each time we go it falls short. The space itself need to be updated and De-cluttered. Right when you walk in there is a storage spot that makes you a little unsure before even ordering. We asked for a crispy rice spicy tuna roll which was a spicy tuna roll topped with tempura crumbs. My husband couldn't finish his sushi as the fish wasn't fresh at all, first time I have ever seen him spit sushi out! Worst service that I have ever experience. And we were there for lunch and it was not busy. I ordered the special for lunch and my wife had miso soup and something else. Her order came at least a half hour before I recieved mine. I had to go into the kitchen as I saw their cook walking around outside the restaurant well after my wife recieved her order. The waiter totally should be fired and the cook as well. I have been in the restaurant business my whole life and have never seen such bad service. It's hard to give a mountain sushi place five stars because it's just not the same as being close to the ocean, but they do a great job and their fish is delicious. Some months later we went again and had quicker (food)... still good.This time, though, rolls came quickly and were EXCELLENT. prices were reasonable. they've taken each step to get better. Tried this place a second time. Super disappointed and frankly disgusting. The place inside was filthy!!! Clean the place man! It's so tiny it shouldnt be that hard. The food was so expensive and not good. We all had the teriyaki box. The salad had thousand island dressing, the chicken was awful, the tempura was definitely some other kind of batter,the Calif roll that comes with was ok not fantastic, miso not half bad surprisingly. Omg the vegetable udon and vegan ramen are SOOOO good here! Especially the udon... absolutely DELICIOUS it's mind blowing. The broth and noodles taste very fresh. Only thing that would make the noodle soup dishes better is if it came with plant protein like tofu. Can't believe there is such a great family owned Asian restaurant out in Idyllwild, yet I struggle to find a place remotely close to this in Palm Springs. This place was solid. If you are craving sushi this place for sure will get the job done. We decided to take out a bunch of sushi due to COVID and eat it once we got back to our place. Salmon avocado, tuna avocado, salmon nigiri, veggie roll, all for two people. The nigiri was good, the veggie roll good but there was some fishy-ness with the two others. We still ate them, it wasn't going to get us sick but it was what we expected as far as quality. It has to be really hard to get quality fish here and I think they did a decent job. The woman working there was so very nice and ran the food out to the car and we really appreciated it. If we came back to town we would probably take out from here again. We might get 2 veggie rolls and the salmon nigiri. If you look at the salmon nigiri, don't mind how they were smushed together, that was due to my driving, but you can tell that some of the cuts are a little off. Walking in, this place doesn't look like much. And it isn't. We walked in to an empty restaurant with no host or wait staff. Finally someone came from the kitchen and sat us. Took our order which was two rolls, a soup, and two waters. The food was bland, and our waters were never brought to wash down their swill. I found a dead insect in my soup halfway through the bowl, no one checked on our table, and an employee was on the phone chewing loudly next to us, but my favorite part of dinner was when this employee loudly burped. The only time the server came to our table was to ask us to pay the bill, still no waters. Horrible service, terrible food, and unsanitary. I wonder how long the soup sat in the back for a bug to climb in the pot and die. read more

Bad service all around, I had to ask multiple times for my drink and wasabi and ginger. My fish became room temp by the time I got those items. The food was mediocre. I felt like it was everyone's first day on the job. Took a peak in the back where food was prepared and it looked way to dirty for a sushi joint. I've had better service and sushi a 1000 miles away from the ocean. I would not recommend this establishment. They are just there to take advantage of tourists money and that's it. The table environment was poorly presented and I'm embarrassed that I even went there. Really wanted sushi and this was the only place in town. Should have passed. Really wierd vibe, confusing entrance, door opens directly into kitchen area. Just strange. Should have left. Placed our order, started looking around. The place was NOT CLEAN. I really wish we had left. The 'Double Double' roll I ordered was mediocre, uninspired; more like bad grocery store sushi. Hubby had some kind of chicken. Again, lame. A couple more things... had to ask twice for water, my sushi was served without wasabi/ginger. Had to ask for it and received a TINY amount. My wife and I live in Los Angeles - AKA Ramen City - so we are pretty demanding when it comes to ramen. Halfway through this weekend's getaway in Idyllwild, she suggested we try the new local ramen place. I was reluctant, sure we would be disappointed, but we gave it a try anyway. The food was outstanding: Veggie Ramen (Mild): Very flavorful broth, plenty of delicious noodles, a good assortment of vegetables and an egg. This may be the best vegetarian ramen we've tried, including Los Angeles! Despite ordering it mild, it had a definite dose of heat, so taste it before adding chili sauce. Chicken Yakisoba: Delicious, flavorful noodles, nice chunks of chicken and perfectly cooked chunks of cabbage that retained their crunch. Best of all was the hint of toastiness in the sauce - from toasted sesame oil perhaps? - that made the whole dish come together. I added some chili sauce (cuz that's who I am) and that made it even better. Outstanding. The service was excellent and the little space was very comfortable. I assumed a place this small in a little mountain town would be disappointing, but it was quite the opposite! These folks are working at a very high level of professionalism. We were both a little surprised to see an Asian restaurant in the mountains but nevertheless wanted to give it a try. The food and service were amazing! I try to be careful with raw sushi, but the sushi here was fresh. We also shared an udon & a gyoza as an appetizer, which were delicious as well.
