The sushi and ramen at Idy Sushi Rolls rivals anything we've had in Los Angeles or elsewhere (except maybe in Japan). It is located on the edge of downtown Idyllwild, and at the time we went they were only doing take out. Everything we tried was 5 stars, including the 8 piece sushi sampler, rainbow roll, California roll, and the mild chicken ramen. The rolls were made with real crab meat and the rice was just the right consistency of sticky and moist. The ramen is large enough for two people to share. This will definitely be one of our go-to places whenever we visit Idyllwild. read more

My mouth is actually watering remembering this meal! The jalapeño poppers were great but the real star of the meal was the Soon Tofu. Never had Soon Tofu? You are in for a treat! It's soft un fermented Tofu. Think an egg custard consistency in fire broth. Both temp and spice level. It has gochugaru peppers and be prepared if you order it extra spicy. It's served with rice on the side and some fresh homemade kimchi. I definitely recommend it. Next time, I will get the beef added. Would definitely add a good mouth feel. They don't have alcohol but do allow you to BYOB. And outside when the weather is warm is not recommended unless you make sure there is constant shade. And ask for an extra glass of water if you order the X spicy Soon Tofu! My son got the udon and he said that was excellent. Also none of their noodles are gluten free. So be aware. read more

Great spot for authentic asian food! We ordered the soon tofu (beef), tempura udon, ca roll, and popcorn chicken. Everything was flavorful and satisfied our cravings. The soon tofu was similar to bcd, however has a sweeter flavor and not as spicy (even though we ordered spicy). Popcorn chicken has a different breading than the normal breading for popcorn chicken at your normal boba shops, but still pretty good. read more

Quality hospitality!! We pulled into Idyllwild a little late last night and made it here a few minutes before they closed and they were kind enough to make our sushi to go. While we were waiting one of the sushi chefs brought out a little piece of chicken katsu for our dog. For food the Double Double roll was good and the Mexican Roll as well as the Jalapeño bombs. Takeout It's one of the couple Asian own restaurants in the area and we were craving something soupy and warm. chicken udon - noodles and chicken are delicious, but the broth is too sweet/salty for us. It could be lighter. Spicy tuna roll - fresh fish and delicious! Seasfood soon tofu - medium spicy is perfect, there's a lot of tofu and some egg, comes with rice and kimchi (delicious btw). Pretty decent mountain top Asian cuisine. The sashimi was pretty fresh. The beef udon was good. The Korean style beef soon came out as expected, piping hot, with a raw egg, and plenty of tofu (unlike BCD tofu house *cough* ). The place was clean and the service was wonderful. read more

Good sushi in the mountains? Yep! We love this little hidden spot. Our latest trip we ordered: chicken ramen, Mexican roll, hot night roll and the golden Cali roll. Everything tasted so fresh and delicious. Prices are a little bit higher but worth it, especially if you need a sushi or ramen fix. My 7 year old especially loved the ramen and has wanted it every day since. It does have a little spice to it but delicious. Our service was great! The rolls took a little bit of time but understandably so as there was a lot of other customers and only one sushi chef. Absolutely recommend and will be back. read more

I was told I had to order it as a side but I could only get the side if I ordered in entree. I was told we were get 8 pieces per order, so I order three entrees for myself( I am not vegan) so that we could get fried tofu for my partner. Paid extra for the bare minimum. They did not even fry it completely, worst tofu we've had. They only gave us about 4 piece per order, so half the amount we were told. Then we ordered the Bento box lunch - which is a LOT of food. I had the chicken teriyaki, and because I'm allergic to shellfish, the substituted additional tempura veggies in place of the California roll. It comes with miso soup, salad, tempura and rice, along with the California roll. My husband had the same, but beef teriyaki. His beef was shaved, and my chicken was sliced. I felt the teriyaki lacked flavor. We also got a Philly roll and chicken fried rice, because we wanted leftovers. Some things were good, and some things were bland. The people were nice. I was so disappointed. I ordered the chicken bowl and veggie bowl for take out and gave them a 15% tip. Lady who took my order misheard me and thought I ordered a veggie roll, which is a reasonable mistake and happens on occasion across all restaurants from time to time. Where I was disappointed was with how this mistake was handled. Typically, most restaurant would simply fix the order for the customer and move on. The person who took my order continued to say that I was the one who made the mistake and if I wanted the veggie bowl I would have to pay extra for it. I hate leaving bad reviews, especially during times like these and also since I love Japanese food so much. Regarding the food, it was average- Cheap cuts of fatty dark meat chicken in a bowl with thick congealed teriyaki sauce. And obviously, I can't speak to the veggie bowl that I ordered. This small, tucked away restaurant is slightly off the beaten path but well worth finding. The staff was friendly and welcoming, taking their time to explain everything since they knew we were first-time dinners. The menu is very inclusive and contains a few items that i haven't seen in years. The service was fast and the food was incredible. The drinks were the standard restaurant selection with no adult beverages offered but they are considering adding them. Ridiculously overpriced!! $12 for a basic avocado roll is outrageous!! Shrimp bowl was pretty basic too, and the spring rolls were mushy on the inside (as if they'd been in the freezer too long.
