Ommmmggggggg I found my happy place
    Brooke L.

Takes me back to working at an amazing spot with RIDICULOUS food and staff as a teen. The wooden structure the way that the floor feels in the creek of the door. The ridiculously good salsa along with the menu items.... easily going to be my go to spot whenever I come up to a while in the future. I've been looking for a good restaurant and as soon as a little bit further up but I didn't even know it was here! I got the lingua plate that had the option to get a bongo soup which of course as a kid growing up with Spanish families as friends I had to get the bongo soup! Linguine and flan is something that I judge a place off of addition to their salsa and their rice and beans. Arnold needs to be a waiter. Great work ethic and manners and was on point with asking when I needed something. With a two rooms full of tables they just meticulously handled everything. My food came out fast the salsa is unreal. I'm very impressed with this location!!!!

First time visiting Idyllwild and I am very happy picking this place to try! Staff was incredibly sweet and attending. Atmosphere was great and food was very delicious!

Usually go to this mountain city for breakfast but this day we wanted to try going later and experiencing lunch on the mountain. Restaurant is up the main Street and had a patio which was perfect for our dog. The restaurant definitely had mountain ambience decked out with Mexican touches. There was a stanchion blocking you from going to the hostess stand, which seemed a little bit odd, but maybe they get very very busy. We were given a table and sat fairly quickly. Just seemed odd that even though they had a lot of open tables, they only gave us a choice of one. Service was quick - a basket of chips and salsa hit our table just as we sat down. Hubby and I ordered and received our food pretty quickly. Honestly, food was just average - hubby ordered two shredded beef tacos. I ordered a chicken tostada. Food had a lack of flavor- seemed like it was geared to "American" palates and so we had to ask for extra salsa to amp up the flavor for our taste buds. Other people seemed to be enjoying the food. Probably will stick to breakfast on the mountain in the future.

Service was fast, the waitress were polite and attentive, food we ordered were okay i just wished they have hot salsas or sauce on the side. The place is small but cozy. Worth a try if youre visiting idlwild.

#21 combo with shredded beef burrito and crispy veggie taco

Time and time again, I find that La Casita just HITS THE SPOT! Yesterday, I was craving a crispy veggie taco (and their DELECTABLY tasty jalapeño-based salsa) and not only had my cravings satisfied but was once again reminded of how deliciously consistent La Casita is. I've been coming here sporadicly throughout the past few years and can honestly say that they continue to deliver GREAT food and a cozy-kinda vibe. Asides from the standard complimentary chips and salsa, I asked for "the green salsa" and LICKED THAT BOWL CLEAN. Gosh it is SO tasty! I also ordered the #21 combo with the shredded beef burrito and opted for the crispy veggie taco (versus a chicken or beef) with a side of rice and beans. The portions were aplenty and I was only able to knock back the taco and the burrito. I boxed the yummy rice and beans for leftovers. As always, the staff are friendly, the food is delicious, the ambience is quiet and cozy, and this location is tucked away JUST far enough where, when Idy is BUZZING with tourists and vacationers, you can still snag yourself a table in good-timing and treat yourself to a tasty meal.

A local lady that works at the thrift store referred us to this place. The food here was good authentic Mexican food. The decor was traditional and there was cute things everywhere to look at. Nice size portions and complementary chips and salsa.

Food was ok, definitely mountaintop style Mexican food. Service was not good at all. Never refilled anything or checked on us. Even processed the wrong check.

Cabin feel restaurant across the AirBnB we stayed at so we had to check it out. We sat at their front porch and had a nice view of all the trees and mountains. I had the lengua soft tacos and it was very tender. I always like Spanish rice and they make a good one. Their spicy salsa was on point too. My husband had the beef taquitos which he also enjoyed. He loves beans and finished them all. His soda was comped bc our server forgot us and took our order a little late which was not a big deal.

What a great experience all around. Super friendly. Quick service. Amazing food. One of the better Mexican meals we've had in a while and we live in Los Angeles. Be sure to end your meal with the deep fried ice cream (pictured). It's $14 but worth it. And the jalapeño olive oil sauce is insane. So glad we stumbled upon this spot on our little mountain getaway.

I think they have the best-looking deer in town.

Very friendly and quick service and the food was fantastic. I got the Chile Rellenos and my husband got the Huevos Racheros. They offer a lot of great vegetarian options. Plus free chips and salsa.

Good stop for some tasty Mexican food! Came here for dinner on our trip. Weather was nice so we sat outside - they have a lovely outdoor seating area. They also allow dogs here, which was a big bonus! Of course they start you off with some chips and salsa - and their salsa is bomb. Went through it much faster than normal and even asked for extra to go with our meals! Both the chile relleno and wet burrito are delicious options. Not the best we've ever had, but still super tasty and will definitely satisfy you. They only serve beer and wine, but they make a delicious strawberry margarita with wine. Dangerous because you do not taste the alcohol, but a great job of making one with wine. They offer a pitcher for like $25, which is a great deal compared to about $10 for 1 margarita. I'd recommend this if you have a party of 3 or more - could not finish it with only two. Great service. We found parking in their back lot, but it wasn't busy. It's smaller, so I'd imagine it might be difficult when super busy. Good stop for dinner!

    Beautiful outside scene worth it

Enjoyed this restaurant for our anniversary weekend. The views were so nice especially going to sunset. Food was delicious, their special salsa was so good too and the servers wehad were so nice. Had a good conversation with them getting to know the area and little town. Loved it all.

Since we didn't have reservations, we were seated at the bar, which ended up being a blessing in disguise. Our bartender and server, I believe her name was Katie, was outstanding. She was friendly, attentive, and made the entire experience even more enjoyable. We started with a couple of glasses of wine and the Insalata Burrata with heirloom tomatoes, fresh burrata, basil, olive oil, prosecco vinegar, local microgreens, Maldon salt, and freshly ground black pepper. It was incredibly fresh, beautifully balanced, and the perfect way to begin the meal. For our entrées, we ordered the Lasagne di Verdure with seasonal vegetables, house-made ricotta, mozzarella, marinara, and Parmigiano-Reggiano. The house-made ricotta was absolutely incredible and elevated the entire dish, making it an easy favorite. We also shared the Salame e Funghi pizza with San Marzano tomato sauce, mozzarella, pepperoni, and mushrooms. The thin, wood-fired crust had the perfect texture, and the pizza easily rivaled--if not surpassed--many restaurants that specialize in pizza. To finish the evening, we couldn't pass on the Torta di Nocciole, a flourless hazelnut cake served with vanilla gelato, a drizzle of local raw honey, and freshly grated nutmeg. It was the perfect ending to an outstanding meal--rich, balanced, and absolutely delicious. From the exceptional service to the thoughtfully prepared food, every part of our visit exceeded our expectations. We only wish there were a location closer to home. We'll definitely be back, hopefully sooner rather than later. Thank you for an unforgettable meal and outstanding hospitality!

We got lucky*) Server was amazing Food expediter was super nice Food was delicious Elegant, fine dining experience Music was my mountain playlist (and not too loud) View of mountains for me. View of architecture for my wife. PARKING: Parking can be difficult in the small lot, but there's parking along the street too. INSIDE: It was perfect weather. 68ºF at 6pm after a warm day. They have "indoor/patio" style seating which may be difficult for some to access by multiple steps. We were seated at the top, a table away from the music, along the window side. They have heat lamps - but temps were perfect (lots of people and hot food warmed everyone up). I wanted to walk around the restaurant. The tiered architecture is interesting. FOOD: High End Vegan! Yes - I'm guilty of wanting to give them 5 stars just looking at their vegan menu. (And omnivore selection) Yes - I appreciate the care that it takes to prepare a plate. BUT This food was just delicious by itself. Even in a cardboard box, this food would've been amazing. VEGAN "cheese" appetizer (great for 2-3 people) Nut cheese was warm and tangy. This is NOT just cashews and nooch in a blender. It is spiced with something that brings a little heat. *you will want to lick the bowl. PRO TIP: The welcome bread with ... oh shit.... WELCOME BREAD / Garlic Olive Oil This crusty bread served with microplaned garlic + olive oil is fantastic. Garlic Fiend? You're gonna love this. Not a fan of garlic? What's wrong with you?! I mean... just serve from the oil side. Save some bread for your vegan cheese.... VEGAN CHEESE (cont.) Order the gluten free bread (a little more like Uti's toasted dinner roll) with your vegan cheese app. Omnivores at your table will be surprised how well this vegan cheese and wine pair with each other. TROUT I think my wife got the trout. She loved it. Light and delicate. VEGAN KIMCHI TOFU I've had kimchi. I've had tofu. We all have. This was prepared on a bed of roasty veg that was a great match to the salty kimchi. I don't know if there was a marinade preparation (sesame paste?) with the tofu, or it was made locally, or both, but this firm tofu was excellent. Sweet. Nutty. Salty. Fresh tasting and filling. The vegan menu here isn't just an "alternate version" of an omnivore dish. It is its own thing. DESSERT MISTAKE = not getting it. We thought there would be dessert in town, but we got out late. Town had closed. MUSIC Tonight's music was a pair of musicians playing CS&N, Neil Young, Bob Seger... acoustic session: Guitar, Violin, Mandolin. Quiet & sentimental performance was a perfect accompaniment to a long hike day. THERE ARE 1-STAR REVIEWS of this place. They have their reasons. I've only been here once. But I experienced NONE of the things they've mentioned. Moreover, we experienced even better than what other 5-star reviews suggested. This is an elegant spot, framed by a perfect day in Idyllwild. If I come back to the town, I will want to try other restaurants, but I'll definitely come back here. Not *just* because of their vegan options, but definitely *for* their vegan options.

It's a GOLD mine! The service and friendliness is second to none! Delightful. I was just gonna try a couple of à la carte breakfast items to save money, BUT I was quickly "flipped" to a full meal package (much to my chagrin) and with tax and tip over $21! Well, that's a little pricey for a senior on a budget. I hate to say this, but when I'm traveling on a highway (and there's almost no alternative) Denny's does this right with their "senior menu" offerings at half this price! And that's kind of a grand slam. I make the same mistake frequently and I'm not even a big fan of eggs, but I didn't have much choice other than the veggie burger. I decided on scrambled eggs with hashbrowns and the veggie sausage from MorningStar brand (which origin is rooted in the vegetarian friendly Seventh-day Adventist Church.) My side dish was a generous portion of sliced avocado, nicely plated. To me, this spot was kind of like a "SYSCO" food depot. (If you know what I mean). The standard fair for many cafés. But, the service is very warm, old school charm where everybody chats with you to make sure you're doing OK and comes by and taps your shoulder or gives you a little back rub in passing. Not Harvey Weinstein weird but rather kind, friendly, vibes. I was transported to the set of "Andy of Mayberry" just wondering when Aunt Bea was gonna bring out the apple pie! Next time I'll try a veggie burger because it's a comfortable spot and the people are so damn friendly! Wait a second, is that Floyd the Barber, Goober the Mechanic, Otis on a bender? Oh no, I have to run! I see Barney giving me a ticket! Shazam, Shazam!
