I love the location of this place more than anything. You can sit outside and really enjoy the beautiful weather being in the middle of everything. Their seafood is great. Iguanas has raw oysters on the half shell! Finally after going from restaurant to restaurant around the village I finally found some raw oysters at Iguanas. They weren't the greatest in the world, but boy did they satisfy our cravings for some raw oysters upon a cracker covered with hot sauce and a squeeze of lemon. Yum! The drinks at Iguanas were great as well. They were served Island Style, strong and tasty! The bartender really knew her stuff when it came to making a mean drink; she was also very friendly and told us where the fun was to be had that night on the island. read more

I love St. Simmons and make it a point to eat at Iguanas Seafood Restaurant. We visited in July when there was a spike in pandemic cases: the servers/employees were all practicing safety measures and made every effort to sit us outside. We found the staff to be friendly, knowledgeable and very professional. They get double 5s. The food.... my husband and i always eat shrimp and it dis not disappoint. I had the shrimp and grits which if you like fried grits and cheese, these are deadly. My husband had the shrimp plate and he left only crumbs. I highly recommend eating here and getting the shrimp. Good food and good service Our Group was touring St. Simons and Jekyll Islands recently. During our trip we were recommended to get some great food at Iguana's, in part because of their incredible "local" shrimp. Now most of our group had the shrimp and said it was fantastic - local shrimp are sooo much better than frozen. Although I had Chicken Fingers because I'm not a "Sea-Foodie", I did try 1 of my wife's shrimp and it WAS very good. Oh, I don't even have time to tell you about how good the "adult beverages" were. Paula was our server and she did a great job with the 40+ folks we had. I'm guessing it was because not so many folks order Chicken Fingers, but they said that they were late in getting it to me. Well, they then chose to NOT charge me for the Chicken Fingers. Say what?? They apologized and said it was their choice to not charge me for the Chicken. Very gracious, unexpected, but quite appreciated. Good Southern Hospitality! After we ate, we were able to go down the street to the Lighthouse. Although time did not allow us to take the tour, the area around it - the trees with the Spanish Moss and the water - all made for a pleasant, albeit brief visit. When you come, make plans to tour the Lighthouse itself while you enjoy the "small town feel" of the area. Food and Foot traffic, both good. If you hadn't already planned to go anyway, the food - and the folks - at Iguana's are well worth checking out. That is if you like good, fresh seafood "with a side" of hospitality. read more

Holy cow! My tastebuds are dancing within my mouth! Most fried shrimp, at most places, all taste the same, but not here! The spices and seasoning were on point and crazy good! The blackened grouper was prepared to perfection, as was the blackened shrimp! To top it off, free ice cream, Lt. Dan.... Ice cream Lt Dan!!! Definitely worth a try. It was pretty good. The wait staff were very nice but very disorganized (likely not their fault). Nobody could seem to get a drink menu and it had to migrate from table to table. If I were the owner I'd be horrified because drinks are where the profit is. Shrimp was very good (fried was the best), burger was good as well as Mac and cheese. Iguanas is dialed in. Absolutely loved it. Took the wife and 3 pickiest eaters ever (my kids), and every single person approved. We had the raw oysters as an app. Very fresh and absolutely fantastic! Me and the wife had the Seafood Pick 2 (Fish & Shrimp). Shrimp was phenomenal and the fish was good, not great, but good. Beer selection is on point and cold, which is a plus, and the ice cream bar was the topper for the kids.... and included. Service was also good. Waitress checked in regularly and was friendly. I would have given this 5 stars except I had better fish on St. Simons Island, but the shrimp is probably the best I could find. Constantly hearing commercials for this place so I thought I'd stop in for lunch. Menu seemed to be lacking, kind of wish for more options or lunch specials. Our waitress was great and attentive. Food was just ok. I got the crab bisque, flavor was good but it almost had a powder texture finish. Also got the grilled oysters and those were good. Overall it was just "okay." This place is delicious. We were lucky enough to go on a non busy day and was seated quickly. We ordered the pick 2 platter. Our order consisted of blackened salmon, fried shrimp and baked potato. We paid 1.99 extra for some onion rings that were delicious as well ( my mom who hates them ate most of them) we also decided to get some drinks. I ordered the mango sunrise which was a frozen drink and it was amazing. I recommend this place the food is amazing. The service was amazing and we had an amazing talk with the manger as well. We went into this restaurant knowing it was going to be an overpriced tourist trap, and it lived up to the expectations. We came for an early lunch and decided to sit out on the patio as the temperature was nice, and it was a good view for people/car watching. They had blaring music that made conversation nearly impossible, but thankfully another set of older guest that sat near us asked to have it turned down just after our arrival. Our server was pleasant and courteous, however when we asked for recommendations between a small list of options he was not particularly helpful by saying that everything there was good. We started with the buffalo shrimp appetizer however we found it was only six small shrimp in a very large bowl. The shrimp themselves were good, however the portion size was decidedly disappointing. Main entrées started at $15 and up. Since we were just having lunch and didn't want to spend a whole lot, we both just ordered sandwiches. I had the crabcake sandwich and my husband had the shrimp burger. Both were good, but nothing to write home about. Our server did earn some kudos by adding a few hush puppies to my plate after I asked if they came with the sandwiches (they do not). This is a great restaurant with a fun atmosphere and terrific service! We are visiting SSI for three weeks and we asked many locals where to eat. Many said go to Iguana for great shrimp! We loved the "choose your favorite shrimp sampler" appetizer, especially the bacon wrapped shrimp. I was allowed to sample the crab bisque before ordering it...loved it! My husband had shrimp over fried grits, a first for us northerners! He loved it. Free soft serve ice cream with toppings for dessert was an unexpected treat. The only downside I would say is it feels very "touristy".. which is a personal turnoff. Not sure about for others. I read the reviews, and the majority of the reviews claimed that this was the place to go to. The restaurant could have been should have been a lot cleaner. The food was ok, nothing spectacular. Portions were small for the price. ( Probably due to inflation caused by Mr. Putin and not the clowns in the White House.)
