My daughter and I, a black family,, decided to go to iHop at Potomac Yards for Father's day. It was around 11 AM and was packed for the holiday. My name was called for a table of 5. As we approached the host, the older female hostee asked where are the rest of my party? I responded by saying that they should be here in about ten minutes. The older female hostee said I can't seat you without the rest of your party. I had asked why not? She responded by saying, I just can't. The younger female host said that was their company policy. The older female hostee had an instant attitude with me from the start. So, we decided to wait for the rest of our party. While we were waiting the young hostee called for a party of 4. A white couple approached the hostee table. The same older female hostee sat them down without any attitude or question. So, I went to the young female hostee and asked why did you guys sat them without the rest of their party. She told me that the rest of their party is in the parking lot at the car. I had corrected her by telling her the white couple were by themselves the whole time we were there. As the older female hostee returned the hostee table, I had asked her the same questioned? She shrugged her shoulders and said they lied about their party. And continued by saying talk to the manager as if she was dismissing me. The Manager came over. I had explained the situation to him. He immediately told the older female hostee to not to seat anyone without their party. The older female hostee responded to the manager with an attitude while saying they lied to me several times. The younger female hostee kept making up excuses. At this time, I told the manager the felt discriminated against and I will not be eating at your establishment. If a 0 star could be given, I would be front and center. This location used to be my frequent until tonight. "James" the "manager" had given off a very distasteful attitude. I had came in for a little late night bite to eat with my partner. 22:59 on the dot and we were told from someone working the front, that we could not be seated for dine-in. Now, we could've argued that technically it's before 11pm (when they stop dine-in). Though, we didn't want to bother with arguing that "the customer is always right." The person referred "James" over to us to get our order. We come in during the day a lot and I always ask if I can get the cheeseburger omelette (the chef normally cooks it for me if asked). So we inquired about it tonight and "James" immediately cut it short with us before we could finish asking. We then proceeded to tell him we normally ask and they make it. He said "nope no, we do not make that. We only makes what's on the menu. We do not make that at night." My partner then asks him who he was speaking to with that manner and then asked for his name. He told us "James" We asked if he was the manager, he stated he was. I personally wouldn't go back after that encounter with him. This specific location was a lot better then the other locations that I've gone to in MD (Waldorf and Clinton) however the service wasn't that good. First time ordering iHop to-go. Food was all well-packaged and hot, but one thing really ruined it for me. My country-fried steak, which I asked to have no gravy, was covered with a thick glop of peppery, goopy white gravy. I know many people like it, but I can't stand the stuff, so my steak was pretty much ruined. Adding insult to injury, "No Gravy" is an *option* on their online ordering menu. The online menu doesn't allow you to add any special instructions - which is a big negative in my book - but it does give you some options, including No Gravy on the steak. So when they completely ignore the options that *they provide* - that's doubly bad. I like iHop and their country-fried steak is one of my favorites. Never had a problem with the no gravy request in the restaurant. Not sure I will order it as to-go again, though. read more

We visited the IHOP on route 1 today and received/experienced horrible service. Once we were seated, it took over 12 minutes to be acknowledged. They also messed my wife's order; she had asked for extra sausage, but never received it. Moreover, the server never came back to our table to inquire to see how we were doing(drinks etc...). She never even cleared our plates and/or provided us a check. We ended up walking up to the checkout area to pay our tab. I subsequently called the Manager "Matt," & informed him what had transpired; his response was rather cavalier & unprofessional! My daughter and I were here today to grab a bite to eat before shopping in Potomac Yards. We'd just been seated and provided our drinks when one of the managers began having a conversation with one of the servers about confirming her legal name. It goes on like this for some time, with the server trying to explain and him cutting her off and essentially calling her a liar. However, the point isn't the substance of the conversation, but the fact that a work-related/personnel issue was being discussed loudly on the floor of the restaurant. When I approached him and told him that I'd overheard the entire conversation and that it was inappropriate for me to know so much about his employees' personal business, he doubled down: he explained that she was his "friend," and that he knows her. When I pushed back and explained that none of that was relevant, that the conversation should have been held in the back office, he apologized and slunk away, saying that he thought no one was listening. The way he was yelling, there was no way that any customer in the immediate vicinity couldn't hear. It was horrible. The food and service here are fine. It is clear that there is a nice camaraderie among the workers. However, that manager is intolerable. It is easy to treat servers poorly when it isn't easy for them leave and other work. read more

A little part of me dies inside by reviewing IHOP, because making this public is admitting I've actually eaten here. It is true: I have eaten here. I admit it. After 14 hours at work I came here for blueberry pancakes at 8:30 at night, when nowhere else near by with blueberry pancakes and a parking lot was open. Naturally I ordered the blueberry pancakes and upon receiving them at my table, proceeded to smear them in butter and syrup and stuff them in my face. This was supposed to be an indulgence; I'd been waiting for these since I saw something similar on the menu of the new and wonderful Satellite Room in DC. I was stressed after a long day and needed fulfillment. This was pure and utter savageness, disregarding all thought and living purely on a physical need I had to fill. I had a one night stand. With blueberry pancakes. And felt like shit afterwards. I feel like I let myself down. I feel like I knew better. It was indulgent, sure, but did either of us get anything out of it? The blueberry pancakes weren't even finished off; a few soggy blueberries and their surrounding buttermilk dough remained on my plate soaked in fake syrup. Nasty, used. During the drive of shame home I already felt dirty. But why am I really writing this, and why does this particular IHOP get a passable rating after being disappointed by the quality of the blueberry pancakes and egg substitutes (which after one bite I didn't even try to eat)? Because of Julian. This boy provided excellent service, was super attentive, and was by far the most polite waiter I've had at one of these kinds of restaurants. So many really young servers don't care at all about their jobs or customers, but this was clearly not the case with Julian. After the trashy whorishness of my meal, I still felt really respected as a patron of this establishment. A job well done. Give this boy a raise! read more

Whether you're headed to a movie, out for a day of shopping in the 'burbs, or happen to live nearby and are in need of a hangover cure, it'll fit the bill. It can get crazy crowded so it's best to go during off hours. On my most recent visit a friend and I were seated at a table that smelled quite pungent. I'm not normally that sensitive to smells, but this was disgusting. Our waiter noticed our faces immediately and moved us to a much more pleasant booth that didn't reek of ass. Quite an improvement. Our waiter was incredible: you would have thought we were sitting down to a dinner at 1789. He was full of "it will be my pleasure"s and "ladies, we are honored to serve you this evening." It was pretty remarkable. The food is that of any IHOP: tons and tons of options, but honestly, who orders something other than the breakfast food? I don't know why they even bother with the salads, steaks, and burgers on the menu. read more

Yes, I'm giving an IHOP 4 stars and I'll tell you why. His name is Earl. This man was our server on a recent late night trip to IHOP after drinking. Usually, when you go to IHOP, it's the same thing, mediocre food, mediocre service, but when it's 2AM and you're drunk, no one really cares. Well, Earl cared. He was one of the friendliest, efficient servers I've ever had at any restaurant, let alone an IHOP at 2AM. This man clearly loves his job. He loves working the late shift and interacting with all the "fun" types that come in. Earl gets 5 stars. Alas, the food is the same old basic IHOP food. Omlettes, french toast, pancakes, fried food platters and some burgers. But it always hits the spot after a night of drinking. It does come out fast, hot and fresh. And it's pretty cheap. So the food gets 3 stars. Folks, if you're having a late night hankering for IHOP, give this one a try. I hope Earl is there to serve you because you will be taken very good care of. read more

ChickenFried Steak & mashed potatoes; Sautéed beef tips with onions, two eggs over easy, grits with butter and hash browns- that was dinner! It had been a few years since my wife and I visited an IHOP, and recently while going to the theatre nearby figured this was opportune. As usual in most IHOPs experienced, the place is nice and neat, service is what you'd expect... but the menu, WOW! Their menu has grown exponentially in some ways, and shrunk in others. I must say though, they still have the corner on chain breakfast joints. Although there are a lot of better breakfast joints out there, at least the consistency is still there. Everything we had was OK, not the greatest, and the prices are fairly reasonable for what you get. It may be another few years before we visit an IHOP again, but I'm glad we got it out of our system! This one's good and I recommend it... just make sure you enjoy it at a time you don't have to wait forever to get in. read more

I haven't been to this IHOP in years. This review is not so much specifically for the IHOP itself, as much as it is as part of a watershed moment in my personal history. Back in 2004, my girlfriend who I was living with had to fly to Florida for a few days of job training. For reasons I can't recall, she flew very early out of Reagan National, something like 6:30 or 7 on a Sunday morning. That would have been difficult on its own. Thing was, a good buddy of mine had his bachelor party the night before. Between a weak dinner (Hooters wings and not much else) and breaking my number one drinking rule (Never mix beer and liquor, especially not shots), my poor body took a beating that night. When I finally got back home around 3 am, I wanted to die. Problem was, I knew if I went to sleep I'd never get my gf out for her flight. So I stayed up the rest of the night, and it was PAINFUL. Fortunately, right before I dropped her off, we had an early breakfast at this IHOP...one of the better ones in the DC area. My meal was satisfying, but after a night like I had I just couldn't finish it. But thanks to that meal at IHOP, I mustered up enough energy to get my girlfriend on the plane, and made my way back home to take out my dog and then ultimately collapse in a heap. The post script to this story is that the next day, I surprised her by boarding a plane to Florida myself, and showing up at her hotel. When she opened the door to let me in the room I was on one knee with a diamond ring. It'll be three years next October. :) read more

I come here on the late night tip to get a laugh at the slap happy servers. There's a server here, who, by far had the entire restaurant and kitchen in tears (it's 2am so there's not that many people for his embarrassing stand up comedy!) To the food-ask for real eggs. Like the kind with a shell and they'll give it to you. Bacon-always turkey. Pancakes-yes, Heavenly Father, give me more. OJ-weirdly the freshest I've tasted at a restaurant. Wait for food-if you come like we do at 2am there's no wait at all! Management-Bueno! Staff-friendly and hilarious. I pass 2 IHOP's to get to this one, even at 2am! My gf and I came for the all you can eat pancakes one weekend. Since it was a weekend we figured we would have to wait a while but we were seated immediately so that was nice. The food was tasty and we didn't have any issues there. There were at least 20 servers working but for whatever reason ours was slow as hell. In short, good service, a little dirty and grubby, and the food quality you'd expect from a chain diner. 2.5 stars. Coming off my first night shift ever, I had a caffeine hangover. Dizzy and a little nauseous, I realized hadn't really had much to eat over the last 24 hours. Even though my hangovers usually involve depressants rather than stimulants, I knew exactly how to treat this one. I determined a big breakfast was in order, and decided to give this IHOP a try on my way home. So here is the breakdown of how things went: First, the good: Very fast and friendly service. It was 12 minutes from when I sat down to when I had glorious, glorious breakfast food in front of me. I proceeded to cover everything in copious amounts of butter and syrup and shove it into my face, washing it all down with a big pot of (decaf) coffee. The food was fine--there's not much you can do to mess up or dress up two over easy eggs, some bacon, and a Belgian waffle--the coffee was hot, strong, plentiful. Now, the bad: Before my meal, I went into the bathroom use the facilities and wash my hands. It was pretty nasty looking and seemed like it needed to be cleaned. I touched the sink handles only with the back of my hands and used paper towels to grab the door handles, just in case. The rest of the restaurant kind of had a mild, random gross smell. They could probably use a carpet shampoo and a once-over with bleach on pretty much everything. This is kind of what you expect from a diner, but it was a little too much. I choose to be blissfully ignorant of what this probably says about the cleanliness of the kitchen. So you probably don't want to come here if you can't tolerate/appreciate a grubby diner environment. But otherwise, if you're craving the classics of American diner food, this will do just fine. read more

This has fast become a guilty pleasure. I can't believe I'm writing a review of it on Yelp and giving it 4 stars. Does that make me lose my elite cred? Well, I don't care. This place is like a machine. Both times I've been there, they've had their entire waiting area packed with people crawling around outside waiting for their tables. But, when you put your name on the list, and they say 10 minutes, it really is 10 minutes. Shortly, you're whisked away to your table, given your laminated menus and within 2 minutes you have your waitress asking for your drink orders. Perfect, because you're not at IHOP to mingle and have a casual breakfast. You're there to eat and get out. Both times, our food came out within 5-10 minutes of placing our orders. Incredible. I usually come in with my boyfriend during the weekdays around 9 pm my opinion on the food is this: One week : the food comes out on time, freshly cooked, hot and full of flavor The following week: food comes late, very cold , and is very bland. This place is a hit or miss even with the staff. There had been numerous times where I would have to wait 20 minutes or more to get a refill on water. I do know that their drinks ( ex: hot coco, coffee ) is very well made & fresh. I will be coming back for the convenience however never sure of what to expect for quality. read more
