The old Denny's in Eureka was open for 50 years. It closed when the franchisees decided to retire, and the people that took over, changed it over to an IHOP. It's a good restaurant. My late dad really enjoyed coming here..... It's your standard IHOP, the people were very friendly and helpful, and the place is clean. They have a very large menu, but of course their specialty are the pancakes. I decided to stop in and have breakfast for dinner. Out of the specialty pancakes, I decided to try the "Cinna-stack pancakes. Basically, they were cinnamon roll pancakes. I had a couple of eggs on top. It was a very decent sized portion, and the eggs were perfect. The yolk just dripped down into the pancakes. They tasted just like a good cinnamon roll would taste. The cinnamon syrup and the frosting were very good. They were, however, very rich and sweet. This is something you would probably want to share with another person. I made it through about half of the pancakes, and then brought the rest home with me. The prices were a little bit on the higher end, but it's Eureka. My boyfriend and I decided to eat at this ihop while on vacation. we love the one in our home town, our experience here on the other hand was aweful. we walked in got sat by the hostess and that was it. No one came to our table after that. We sat for 20 minutes, during that 20 minutes 4 other tables came in got sat, drinks, and ordered. My boyfriend and I just stayed quietly waiting because we do not like to be rude or inpatient since we both work in the service industry. However after 20 minutes of nothing I tried to kindly wave down one of the servers to ask to be waited on. The server saw my put here finger up, saying hold on, but never came back after that. We finally got up went to the hostess stand to ask for some service, the hostess saw us but continued to walk in the back. So we left. Horrible experience read more

When Denny's closed last year we anxiously awaited the opening of the promised IHOP at the space. it finally happened! I have eaten twice there, and while the portions have gotten a bit smaller, (as if I needed bigger portions!) the quality and consistency of the food remains excellent. Many of the employees from Dennys have remained on, giving the place a familiar and comfortable feeling when we visit. Additions of vegetarian options (especially Impossible™ Burgers and Sausage) have made the experience even more enjoyable to me. My most recent (second in a week) visit was especially satisfying... I was taking a friend with mobility issues, and Noah, one of the employees, saw me struggling to hold the door and rushed out to help. Eilia (spelling?) was attentive and prompt with meeting our needs and the food was in keeping with IHOP's more than 60 years of quality food. read more

I was greeted by a very kind and cheerful hostess/server and our food came quickly. I order eggs Benedict every where I go because I always order breakfast items that I am unwilling to cook at home. Well, who would have guessed that a chain restaurant would have the hands down best Avacado Bene I've ever had! The Hollandaise sauce is smooth, flavorful, just right. The egg is expertly cooked to the exact perfect consistency for the dish, not under, not over. Lots of crunch bacon. I am so pleasantly surprised and impressed. Yum!!! Not to par with other IHOPs. The pancakes were dry and a bit hard, not soft and fluffy like I'm use to and expected from a chain like IHOP. The service wasn't terrible, but I did have to repeat myself as the waitress was not listening because she was in such a rush. Once the food came out she never checked on us to see if we liked it or needed anything else. We did, I had already asked but she forgot in her rush. The food was good and the service was kind. I would recommend a little bit more cleanliness, but I still enjoyed the ambience.

The Ihop in Eureka moved in when Denny's moved out. They're very similar. Pretty basic menu in both, but satisfactory. I found the food, the service and the prices pretty good, and, while I probably won't seek them out, I'll likely find myself eating there again from time to time. There were plenty of other customers but I was seated right away, and my server was at my table within a few minutes, and my order arrived pretty quickly too. I would have given this place 1 star, but the young water/drink busboy/ service served it from that doom. We came in this past Saturday to have a relaxing breakfast (11 am) after a morning of family errands. We were pleasantly surprised to be seated in 10 minutes when the restaurant was packed. Once seated, we waited about 8 min before the young gentleman came forward and asked us if we wanted water or any other drinks... We asked for coffee and orange juice and appreciated his honesty when he mentioned that folks have been complaining that the orange juice is sour (likely heat-damaged/turned south). He returned fairly quickly with he drinks. It was 20 MIN of sitting at our table before the waitress came over and said are you ready. Ok, I get that you are busy, but the rule of thumb is to at least touch bases within the first 5 min with your table to let them know you and they exist. Twenty freaking min... 50 min later, no food and empty coffee mugs, I had to ask for the check to cash out. I mean 70 min at IHOP has passed and no food.. During that time I saw two other tables leave, other folks looking around, and sad of all, an older elderly couple looked confused since they had been seated when we were, and still no food. I can say that the wait staff looks struggling to deal with the ineptitude of the food cooks and the disgruntlement of the customers. But I would say that the manager needs to sit down and reach out to other franchise owners and ask for guidance since this appears to be their first rodeo of running a high-output food venue. I mean Dennys, IHOP, and other similar restaurants should be well versed to try to get food out to folks Well within the 30 min period, not 70 min, and NO food! This restaurant is a great place to go if you're looking for a place to sit and wait for your food. The staff is friendly and the ambiance is perfect for a nap. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to spend their day waiting for food that will never come. I'll try this place once I hear more positive responses, but until then I'll go to other sit-down places locally. read more

A friend and I visited the restaurant. I ordered biscuits and gravy and two eggs. The server, Kelly, repeated the request but when the order came the eggs were scrambled. When I mentioned that they were not what I ordered, she argued with me. When she brought the correct order she placed the plate down and walked away. Later, about 45 minutes, I called to talk to the manager regarding the incident. Turns out Kelly is the manager. When I began to talk with her she would not allow me to even complete a sentence. Just talked over me and argued. I understand mistakes are made. Admitting to them are admirable. But rudeness is not acceptable. read more

The food tasted like crap - everything was microwaved. I ordered mash potatoes and gravy and the gravy was thick, tasted rotten, cold and came out of a jar. This waitress charged us for the gravy when i didn't eat it. My friend ordered a cheese burger and it was cold, cheese wasn't melted and overall just disgusting. My mashed potatoes weren't even potatoes, they were FLAKES! The bacon we got was not cooked and no flavor. Just fyi, the coffee isn't complimentary- we were charged for the coffee without being told it was $4 for half filled coffee cup. The restaurant stan and the service was horrible. I am a long time patron of IHop who has noticed the hum on the street about the corporate gal who is swinging a big negative attitude while she is there. Asked for a particular waitress she said no. Attitude. She wears long stringy braided hair that falls over her face and possibly into food. It is a huge turnoff. Don't want her serving me or her ordering staff around that had regular hours and collected many friends plus generations who grew to adulthood because of a friendly atmosphere. It once was a family place dine. As long as the corporate gal is there I will not visit because of her disrespectful tense attitude toward staff. Small towns appreciate the workers but not when they know they are scrapping through begging for hours for a living wage from corporate. Wake up corporate!!!! read more

This was our first visit to IHOP ("International" House of Pancakes). The last time we were at one of these was April 1998 in Medford OR. I remember it as being pretty good, so we thought we'd give it a go. This particular IHOP replaced a former Denny's, so we expected it to be an improvement over it's former incarnation. We were wrong. The place is very clean, the servers were friendly, attentive and enthusiastic. So far so good. I ordered the Classic Eggs Benedict. I think I had had it all those years at the Medford location, so I felt it would be safe enough. The Classic Eggs Benedict is two english muffins, on top of each is a slice of Canadian Bacon, a soft-poached egg, and then the whole megillah is covered in Hollandaise Sauce. Usually, some kind of potato is served with it. I chose Hash Browns. I am somewhat of a traditionalist when it comes to food. What I received: Two stacks: English Muffin, Black Forest Ham (Ok, so the menu did stipulate this), a hard-poached egg.The stuff that covered it all, LOOKED like Hollandaise Sauce. The sauce was bland, at best, and the portion was stingy. As mentioned, the egg was hard poached (on a Benedict, runny yoke is supposed to meld into the Hollandaise. It's a taste/texture thing). The English Muffin's were both rubbery and difficult to cut with a knife. Again, I got "Black Forest Ham," not Canadian. Bacon. Never again. Oh, the cherry on top was very crunchy (burned) hash browns. Wife had the "Banana Strawberry Pancakes.". These looked good on first appearance. And that was it: THEY LOOKED GOOD. Eating them was another matter. The bananas were kind of elderly. The buttermilk pancakes were rubbery and hard to chew. One plus: the strawberries were fresh. On the table, "Maple" Syrup was provided. It was room temperature. It was not natural or organic, but artificially flavored. The menu stated that "no High Fructose Corn Syrup" was used in any product of recipe. That was one positive. I give IHOP Eureka two stars, for service and cleanliness. We will never step across their threshold again. read more

After a not so great stay in eureka my family and I decided to stop at the new ihop restaurant before leaving town. To our surprise this restaurant ended up being the best part of our stay. The food was excellent and hot upon arrival, the drinks were refreshing and fantastically tasteful. The restaurant was very clean, and staff was very friendly and polite. Nothing however compared to our server David. Our server was very professional and super kind, rushing to get us what we needed when we needed it. Whenever we had a problem (which was not often) he was there to resolve it. This was one of the best services I've had in a restaurant and I would most definitely visit again if traveling through eureka. read more

I want to share a frustrating and unfortunate experience I had with the local IHop in Humboldt County. My girlfriend, a friend of hers and I went there after class for a quick treat as the school semester starts. My girlfriend has a 2 year old task trained service dog that acts as a cardiac alert and psychiatric service dog named Tux. Tux came with us into the restaurant as he is legally allowed to and is trained to do so. Once seated and after ordering drinks Tux alerted to a medical episode. My girlfriend sat down on the floor in order to allow Tux to complete the task. The manager had our waiter come over and inform us that she could not sit on the floor nor have her service dog preform the task he was preforming. The waiter stated that if we sat on the floor again and he was not placed under the table the manager stated that they would need to come over and have another discussion about the service dog. We had to loudly inform them that this was a task and he was alerting to a medical episode. We also needed to disclose medical information that is legally not required so that we could eat in peace. The drinks were brought out after this incident and the food shortly after. However, as someone who has fainting episodes and a variety of other medical issues that often require me to sit or lay briefly on the floor and who benefits from having a service dog I found their illegal demands that he not preform his tasks appalling. I strongly do not recommend going here if you are disabled or have a service dog. read more

Service was ok. Forgot my shrimp on a fisherman's platter. Shrimp, when I got it still the poop veins so I wouldn't eat it. Bacon was overly smoked...actually the only thing I can was eatable was the fish. Probably won't go back. Fits right in with eureka restaurants. Save your money read more

Like many others, I was eagerly awaiting its opening. After all, the national commercials make your mouth water. The Saturday I went with a friend was a true bust. First, she found a long black hair in her omelet and couldn't eat it. My pancakes were paper thin, and the eggs were cold but the steak, as small as it was, was okay. I believe that they opened too fast without training the staff properly. While the waitress offered to comp my friend the omelet, she declined and simply did not finish her meal. The staff looked like they had hired every unemployed teenager in Humboldt County and seemed frazzled and disoriented and certainly not adequately trained in good customer service. I have decided to not go back and when I drive by now I see only a few cars in the parking lot-------totally different from the first few days after they opened. I guess folks have realized that while there is a nationally-revered name, the restaurant uses local cooks who leave something to be desired. None of the cooks wore hairnets or beard guards. No wonder that long black hair wound up in my friend's omelet. Too bad we haven't gotten what their commercials advertise. read more
