Marcus at IHOP was genuinely the best waiter I've had in a long time. From the moment I sat down, he was friendly, attentive, and on top of everything without ever making it feel rushed. My drink was always full, the food came out exactly right (and I ordered something off menu and a little crazy) and he checked in at the perfect times. What really stood out most was his attitude from the moment I walked into the door--positive, professional, and clearly someone who takes pride and joy in making sure guests have a great experience. I arrived just before 7am on a Monday morning. The sign said "Please Wait to be Seated". I waited. I waited. I waited. I could hear the sound of plates rattling in the background, like it was busy as all get-out, and they were having a problem keeping up, but there was just one, single customer in the dining room, with a menu on their table that they had finished reading about the time I came in. They were waiting, too. I kept waiting. At first, I was curious just how long it would take, and whether anyone would apologize for not acknowledging me sooner, but after more than five minutes, and no seeing any sign of life, save for the lone customer waiting for someone to come back to their table, I gave-up, and left. If I could give zero stars I would, it is that bad. It is easy to understand the 2 star rating so far at this location. I was meeting a friend at the nearby BWW to watch football, but I was early so thought I would have a simple breakfast. I have only been to IHOP once, in Seattle and it was very low quality. I never got to eat as the hostess, Mandy, determined a wait list was mandatory when there were plenty of open tables. I was the 4th party added to the list and was told it would be 15-20 minutes?? I asked her if they were shorthanded as I saw numerous tables available. Mandy stated that she had just sat three tables, and wanted to slow it down...hmmm. I then went to the empty, not being seated section off to the side and then asked why it was empty. A taller gentleman told me when they try to seat the section they are always told it is too cold?? I then stated I would sit in this area, but Mandy quickly stated there were no servers available for the section. I then told her to take me off the list, and I would go somewhere else. IHOP is definitely executing the art of "sales prevention". They want the sales to be right where they can control them. But they won't receive any of my dollars in the future. I love coming to this iHop and this is the first time I've had a bad experience. Came in with my friend for breakfast but unfortunately we didn't find anything we were craving on the menu. My friend asked for a coffee to go and the waiter says to us, "no food?" We said "no thank you, sorry." To what his response is, "yeah it's a lot to pay." Like what the hell?? So rude and stupid. However, other than having to wait for a table despite half the restaurant being empty on a late Saturday morning (indicative of being understaffed), the service was friendly and attentive, the food was surprisingly decent (I had the Bourbon Bacon Jam burger, my wife had the Pesto Veggie egg-white omelette, and our son had the French Toast sticks with fruit), and the restaurant cleaner than most diners I've encountered. We recently went to a different location on the Washington side and it was a great experience with good food. I wanted to give our visiting family members a taste of nostalgia after picking them up from the airport and that was a big mistake on my part. The only thing good about this location is the convenience to the airport and there not being any other breakfast places nearby, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's worth it. Our waiter was very frantic, lacked knowledge about basic menu items, and was overall very short with us. There weren't that many other customers dining in at the same time but service the entire time was very slow and we had to ask our waiter for water multiple times, let the waiter know we were ready to order multiple times, ask for the check multiple times, and the food took longer than it ever has at an ihop to come out. Once our food did come out, three out of five of our orders were wrong. No one in our party even had any crazy modifications or requests to their order but somehow it was like we all ordered completely different items. North then made it seem like we were in the wrong for what we ordered and that it was a hassle to correct the modifications. For example, I ordered "a full stack of buttermilk pancakes" and I was given a place of two pancakes. Now for the worst part...While waiting for our food, there was a fight that broke out at the front of the restaurant. Since we were in a booth, we couldn't see all that was going on but we heard yelling from multiple guys, saw and heard dishes being thrown in the air and slammed on the floor, and then two guys ran out the front door. Additional iHop workers were called from the back to stand guard at the front of the restaurant (even though they were trying to cover up what just happened) and the police were called to monitor the restaurant for the rest of the time we were there. When we asked our waiter about the commotion, he lied to us and said there was no commotion at all even though we all just saw and heard a big, honestly frightening thing going on. We asked if we were safe staying where we were and the waiter laughed at us... We do NOT recommend this location. read more

My family and I walked over to this IHOP in CascadeStation (next to PDX airport) around 8:00am on a Sunday morning to find the doors locked and the inside completely unlit. We checked the hours of operation posted on the door and 8:00am was within their stated hours of operation, but there were no notes on to door to tell customers the restaurant was closed. My family and I had to settle for overpriced microwaved food at the hotel we were staying at. This instance in my opinion shows a complete lack of respect for customers and represents a failure of owners and managers. I understand times are tough for restaurants in terms of finding good, reliable help, but how much does it cost to put up a sign saying something to the effect of "We are closed Sunday [insert date] and apologize for the inconvenience"? This location has so much potential given how many hotels are in the general area. AFAIK, this IHOP location is also the **only** breakfast location in CascadeStation, so why can't it capitalize on this advantage? What am I missing??? read more

Our waitress was Isabella and she was a delight. She was so personal and thought to take great care of us party of six. Her level of hospitality was out of the roof. I'm going to spend this review time talking about our experience. Today is Easter and IHOP is one of the few places that you don't have to make a reservation and no crowd. Though they were short staffed Isabella made sure we were well taken care of. We enjoyed everything from pancakes, to waffles, hash browns, bacon and sausages and orange juice. My grandchildren and I saw the 2 star rating but decided it was worth a try. So glad we did!!! It was a Sunday evening and not many customers but we were greeted by Marcus who served us and he was wonderful. My grandaughter ordered Silver 5 with fruit side (bananas and strawberries) and it was delicious. My grandson ordered chicken and waffles and he says they were the best he has ever tasted. The chicken was average but we took most home and reheated it the next day and he ate it all! No carbs for me so I had eggs and bacon and they substituted fruit for the pancakes. We had great service. This is a big restaurant so should always have plenty of room. You park in the back and it looks closed but the entrance is the front facing the road. A friend of mine and I stopped in here to grab a quick breakfast before he had to catch a flight. The restaurant is unfortunately understaffed in some way it seems, because even though most of the tables were empty, there was still about a 15 minute wait to get a table at 9:45 a.m. However, once we were seated, service was remarkably fast. Our server came by before taking drink orders and said something along the lines of, "I don't mean to rush you, but I just want to let you know, a 12 top just sat down and we only have one and a half cooks right now, so if you're ready to order right now, it'll get in before that 12 top order goes in." Which was perfect, because we already knew what we wanted and if we had to wait around, we would have had to rush to make it through security. In what felt like minutes, my burger with onion rings came out, along with my friends Philly cheese steak. Fun fact: you can choose pancakes as your side! It had all the toppings on the side with pieces of cheesecake in the batter. Also got a cinnamon roll crepe and some crepes with fresh fruit. I would never have gone here as a vegan or bothered then with a strange order if the website didn't specially recommend it on their specific vegan menu. Our experience at this IHOP location was A-OK -- the service was excellent, but when comparing the food to other breakfast establishments in the Portland area, my overall rating comes out at a solid 3 stars. This location was very convenient for us, as we had just dropped our son off at PDX for an early morning flight -- and we wanted to go to IKEA after breakfast. Since we were at the "International House of Pancakes", I had to get a stack of original buttermilk pancakes -- I had tried them 20+ years ago, and remembered they were actually pretty good. The flavor of yesterday's pancakes were great, but the consistency was anything but the "fluffy" description on the menu. It didn't help that all they had to offer was fake high fructose syrup, and not real maple syrup -- but I suppose the majority of customers prefer the fake stuff, anyway. I also opted for a side of bacon with my pancakes, which I found to be nice and smoky, but very much on the thin side. Once again, they were just OK. My daughter went with a French toast combo, and she enjoyed her meal, but agreed with me about the thin bacon. The French toast itself was nice and thick, and it was perfectly cooked, but we found it had a strange floral aftertaste to it. If you come in knowing that this is a national chain, and without the expectations you might have for a local café, then you can have a decent experience here. read more

SERVICE like I remember 50-years ago! Growing up in a serving family I thought service of old was gone; I was wrong. I had a late lunch yesterday during their 'Happy Hour' and not only saved money but had an extremely relaxing meal. My waitress was from the 'old school' and I appreciated it. I had Strawberry Tea, a 'Happy Hour' Omlett made to order, and a short stack. I was seated within 3 minutes and had my meal before me 15 minutes later. The food was excellently prepared and my waitress refilled my drink four times without me having to ask. She took the time to talk to me about her role in customer service as we reminisced. It was 'Happy Hour' so the restaurant was relaxing. I haven't enjoyed this level of service (with good food) in over 30 years. I now have a challenger to my favorite breakfast restaurant. read more

My fiancee and I were starved for choices for brunch places that are open during this time. This was a pretty standard IHOP although the exterior looks like it may be an older franchise. Everything was pretty much as expected. I had the country fried steak which was crunchy and huge but nothing crazy to write home about. Similarly the pancakes were pretty standard. We were certainly not disappointed and left satisfied and full but not overly impressed. However the one thing that stood out was Adam our server. He was upbeat from the get-go and definitely livened up the mood in an otherwise quiet dining room.
