I've dined at this IHOP in Ramsey, NJ several times, it's always hit & miss for me. Either there's something off with the food or service is slacking. Today the food and service were both better than average. Diana H was my server, very pleasant and cheerful. I ordered breakfast (pancakes, bacon & OJ), which was promptly served. Food was hot (as opposed to the usual warm food I received in the past). This was an improved experience over the last few times I've visited this location. 3 stars, "A-Okay." Recently renovated, it looks warmer and modern, similar to a Marriott Courtyard. Now take that comment for what it is, it looks like the entrance lobby of that hotel chain. The service has been decent, where you order and you eat then you pay. The only warm greeting I've received is from the manager. It's just another drudge day at work for the wait staff. For a breakfast themed restaurant, I'd like a warm friendly welcome to start my day. The food is like any other IHOP in the chain, and I've ordered through a large swath of the gambit of choices. Consistency for this branch is there. This is a safe bet for an IHOP, where I've been to a few off color ones, and a few shining stars across the country. This location is great, as long as you go at the right time. Midmorning on a saturday is my usual choice. There's usually not a wait and the service is decent. It doesn't take long for the food to arrive. My server didn't know what grapefruit juice was, he asked me what color? Yikes! Other than that, no complaints. Took an hour for us to get our pancakes, and both our coffee cups had lipstick stains from prior use... Waitress was very very nice and took care of us, but the management could care less. When we Tried to redeem our gift card, the waitress needed access to the computer that only her manager had access to, he was on the phone and couldn't help her, so in turn couldn't help us. It is clear that cooks, management, and wait staff are not working together at all. read more

Came in today for the early morning special which I go mostly every week morning before 9am . This special is great service fresh & fast before I head to work, better part it's only $5.00... But only today I was refused by my server then the manager. When I asked why Manager why she stated they don't honor this special on Holidays. Have gone here for years, probably for a decade. It's time I write a review as I've gone several times in the past few months. There is still somewhat of a crowd on weekend mornings, but almost no wait during the week. There is a special now for $4.99 that gets you two strips of bacon, two eggs, hashbrowns, and two pancakes. I've gotten this the past few times, one time everything was a different temperature, but the other times it was fine, one time it was perfect. The consistency leaves a bit to be desired, but you can't really complain for the price. I always order the cracked eggs, and the quantity is a bit different each time. I've also had the waffles (plain) which are good, but my favorite by far is the French toast (plain). It's really good, in my opinion even better than "high end" places that are double in price. Plus they often will give a coupon for a short stack of pancakes during your next visit if you fill out a short survey. And I've actually mentioned a few things they could work on and they've "fixed" them the next time around. Can't go wrong for the price, and it's a pretty well run and enjoyable place. read more

you kind of know what you can expect with any chain so don't think it is a 5 star restaurant in terms of food and service. having said this, if you want pancakes or eggs on the run it is worth the stop. Service was friendly and attentive, thanks Lori. Food is what you can expect, eggs were cooked to order and pancakes (I had double blueberry)! was served hot. Lori properly asked if we wanted coffee and once we did, asked if we preferred milk or half and half. Overall experience for this visit was ver nice, didn't smell anything negative as someone mentioned. Pretty packed today during lunch but didn't affect service or quality of the food. Like I mentioned don't expect more than what IHop is and you won't be disappointed. Still a good value for your money and if you wanted pancakes, eggs and waffles, you either go to a diner or IHop. I woke up having some heavy cravings and this place satisfied it. I got the strawberry and banana French toast and it was made with perfection! The French toast was very savory and fluffy and the strawberry syrup added a sweet after taste taste. The friendly atmosphere and speedy service enhanced the family dining experience. read more

This place has really dropped the ball lately. I go here a lot for breakfast with the kiddos. This time I brought friends and their kids. The waiter was very abrupt and rude with a heavy Spanish accent and rushed us through ordering. When asking for more place settings or sour cream etc (things we needed) he would "yes" us and forget we asked. The place was not busy at all only two to three other tables at a time while we were there. The food as always been decent and pricing good and thats why we return. She even helped calculate out the best discount coupon to use (extraordinary to meet anyone under 25 yrs old able to actually think through a calculation, in her head no less). For anybody avoiding salt, this might be the place. But I just had a very concerning experience. Had lunch with family this weekend and was disappointed with Cyndy, our server. Her fingernails were verrrry long that it was touching the food she was serving. Those long nails can be a hiding place for dirt and bacteria. My 4 y.o daughter asked me "why does she have claws?". When we asked for a glass of water, Cyndy was holding the top of the glass where customers would put their mouths. Is that the way to serve water? She just looked very untidy. Since iHop is in the food business and with the many health concerns especially food borne illnesses, managers or supervisors should emphasize cleanliness amongst their employees and retrain them on how to serve their customers the proper way. read more

I am a huge fan of IHOP, but this location is beyond terrible. I went with my dad for breakfast and we were seated right away. It took a little over 10 minutes for the waiter to come over and take our drink orders. He then disappeared for a good 15 minutes, and we placed our order when he came back with our coffee. After 30 minutes of waiting, we paid for the coffee and left. I will not be returning to this location. Do the population of Northern New Jersey a favor and just close your doors for good. read more

Worst experience ever. The manager at this location berated me in a room full of people for ordering take out and then requesting a seat, as my four year old autistic son and my five year old daughter decided that they wanted ice cream with their food. The manager made both my children cry and accused me of trying to cheat the system, and the threatened to throw my kid's meals out. On top of it, the manager was covered in sweat and was touching the food, extremely unsanitary and down right gross. The avocado toast came out but no eggs, I asked for my eggs, the waitress forgot to put in the order, she put in the order . but she brought out 2 sunny side eggs. I said I ordered scrambled . Waited 45 minutes after given the standard 15 to 20 minute wait. Then AFTER finally sitting down we were told they were working only with one grill!
