While the rest of the IKEA was fairly average, the food court had a great energy and had a long line of customers. Coming here after shopping was always a treat for me, and today was no different. Their Swedish meatballs are as good as any other IKEA restaurant, and the staff was quick to take my order. What I found really unique about this location is that it is situated right next to the Bay, and I was able to see the sun set behind San Francisco across the water as I was eating. The restaurant also was clean and had ample seating. Has great potential for 5 stars, but the staff seemed to be a bit unenthusiastic and I didn't feel the most welcome when ordering and purchasing my meal. read more

Great food and great prices! I think I come here more often for the food than furniture :P I love the Swedish meatballs! It's so cheap ($5.99) and filling too! It comes with a side of cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and steamed vegetables. I want to try their other main dishes like the beef brisket and turkey meatballs but the Swedish meatballs are too good! The sides are cheap and delicious as well. I got a generous serving of Mac and cheese for $1.99. The cornbread is delicious as well. One for $0.69 and two for $0.99. I've been meaning to try the desserts (the chocolate cake looks so good) but I always get so full from the food. I just really really like Ikea. And their food is yummy too! The meatballs are a classic, and I'd like to try the veggie balls next time. Does anyone else remember the tan colored almond cake? I miss that. When I went they only had the almond chocolate layered cake. Service was great even though we only got there 15 minutes before closing, and there were apparently a lot of people coming in for the last rush. I will admit, this ikea location in general is worth 2-3 stars due to the majority of its items being perpetually out of stock and general disorganization and lack of cleanliness (in comparison to some other ikeas I have been to). HOWEVER, this ikea restaurant absolutely made my trip to ikea worth it. Their iconic Swedish meatball meal was absolutely bussin and brought back fond memories of going to ikea with my mom as a little girl. The rest of the meal was nothing special, but I wasn't expecting gourmet quality food considering the whole meal was $8. You could even see the sunset and a view of the bay from the cafeteria. I'm not sure that the food served here is an accurate representation of Swedish cuisine but if you're shopping at Ikea and you're hungry, this is the place! The selection is limited but there seems to be enough to satisfy most folks until they can get somewhere else. The line is long but moves at a decent pace. The seating area isn't huge so if the line moved faster, there wouldn't be anyone to sit unless you went into the store and found a dining room display. (lol!) Seriously, if you're shopping with someone, after you've selected your food, have them scout for a table you wait in line at the cashiers. I recommend the Swedish Meatballs which comes with Mashed Potatoes and Steamed Root Vegetables. The Chicken "Cordon Bleu" isn't bad either, though they call it something else. We also got $1.00 side salads of Mixed Greens, Grape Tomatoes, and Cucumbers. There were also chopped onions available. Getting hungry hike shopping is a universal problem. I faced it too recently on a cold day when we could not decide which lamp to buy, we took a lunch break. My first observation was of shock at the long lines for the food. It reminded me of being in an airport for some reason. We ok got in line which actually moved fairly fast. The food is extremely well priced and fresh ( which I was not expecting). We got the Chicken Tenders 6/10 and the Swedish Meatballs 5/10. We also tried the chocolate cake 3/10. I personally preferred the tenders as they were seasoned well and the fries were crispy and delicious. The whole meal was very welcome and I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I already know that I must try the salmon next ! So if you are at IKEA and get hungry this is not a bad option at all. It's a ho meal that's well priced and so convenient. Swedish meatballs and almond cake are delicious and affordable here - they're my favorite things to order when I visit (although, if I'm really hungry I toss in some corn bread and the chicken tenders and fries). The restaurant is conveniently on the second floor. Seating is quite tight, but there's a lot of seats nonetheless. If you're there when it's not busy, I recommend taking in the sunlight and grabbing a seat by the windows (it's pretty nice). Anyway, there's more to it! Cinnamon buns, ice cream, and hot dogs can be found on the the first floor at super affordable prices! (Like, $1!) Prior till this past weekend, I have never stepped foot inside an IKEA before, much less tried their famous meatballs. My date, who happens to live in Emeryville, was quite astounded by this fact so we finally made plans to check out IKEA and have some of their famous food. As this is not a review on IKEA itself, I'll skip over the whole experience navigating the giant maze that is this furniture store. Instead, I will focus solely on their restaurant/food court area. Contrary to what one would intuitively imagine, IKEA actually has their restaurant split in two. On the upper floor, you'll find the main entrée items such as their famous meatballs, salmon, ribs, or wraps. And downstairs, you'll find all the important meals such as ice cream, hot dogs, and the like. Being that this was my first time here, we of course had to get the Swedish meatball meal. At just $5.99, you get a dozen meatballs (your choice of pork, salmon, or vegetarian), a scoop of mash potatoes, some greens, and a side of lingonberry sauce. Individually, the gravy, the meatball, and the lingonberry sauce was quite bland and not very appealing. However mixed together, it produces the perfect blend of saltiness mixed in with a kick of sweetness from the sauce. For dessert, we purchased a slice of cranberry cheesecake, which was also pretty good. Overall, I'd say the food here is average. Definitely nothing I would ever be craving. Service here was lukewarm at best. Most of the employees looked like they hated their job and was just going through the motions. However the price for the items definitely cannot be beat! And outside of their meatball staple, IKEA apparently changes out their menu items quite frequently as well to provide some variety. So if I ever find myself at IKEA again, I might just hit up the food court area to try out something new. read more

Came here recently for a quick meal while needing to buy a dresser for the kids. They make it super convenient to eat and shop - so thanks Ikea. Upstairs is where you'll find the food court. My go to, but also the most expensive for 8.99 (at the time of this review) is the salmon filet with the sauce. And I dont really like sauces but this one is pretty darn good. Goes well with the salmon filet, the broccoli and the potato/brocolli medallion thing is pretty good. Just make sure to dip it all in the sauce and you should be good. Sadly due to COVID the all you can drink Lingonberry is not available at this time and you have to buy a self contained beverage... maybe it will be back. Oh and if you really want something to save money, go downstairs and you can buy a hotdog, cinnamon bun or ice cream for about a buck each. You can never go wrong with IKEA food in my opinion. It's good and cheap! It is cafeteria style, so you pick some options yourself (salad, soup, bread, desserts) and for the hot options you tell the worker what you would like. Depending on the time you go, you can tell the food isn't fresh and has been sitting out. But if you go during a more busy/active time of the day, the food will be more fresh because they have to be making new batches for all the customers that are coming in. I personally enjoy strolling through the entire ikea's showrooms and ending it with my go to meal: kid's Swedish meatballs, side of Mac and cheese, and a slice of garlic bread. I have never gotten the chance to try their breakfast only their lunch/dinner! I believe they do switch out an item or add an item every month or so! Good taste and value, but sometimes not always the freshest. I prefer going to the Palo Alto one bc the overall ikea feels bigger (I don't know if it actually is) but food wise taste the same. This location does seem the more in the messier/dirtier side compared to Palo Alto (the tables and floors), but I still enjoy coming from time to time :) read more

Standing in line, there was something about the aroma that reminded me of Belgium. I'm not quite sure what it is but it's got a certain ambient aroma that you don't get in any of the local delis or cafeterias. I have to admit that I loved the Swedish meatballs plate. The meatballs were light and plentiful (15 to a plate) with a side of creamy mashed potatoes, lingonberry sauce, and gravy. The meatballs were delicious on their own, or with a dab of the sauce. The sweetness of the lingonberry was a very good complement to the meatballs. The mashed potatoes too was prepared really well. It was creamy and delicious. I opted against the gravy. I had the meal option which included a soup or salad, and a soda. The chicken noodle soup was on point; nothing fantastic nor anything to complain about. It was light, tasty and, dare I say, heartwarmingly filling. At just $7.99 for the whole shebang, I think it was definitely worth the money. I would have it again the next time I'm here. read more

Is it odd to crave food from the cafeteria of a furniture store? Cause I might just be your local Ikea-lurking oddball! This summer I've driven up to Ikea a handful of times because I'm seeking out new furniture and decor for my room. These occasions are an all-day affair type of thing so I usually end up having lunch or dinner at the Ikea Restaurant. But now that I'm done refurnishing my room, I still have lingering cravings for Ikea cafeteria fare! Smoked Salmon OMG! Why are you so delicious?? The salmon are a dish of thin slices marinated in spices and flavorings. It's not quite "smoked" as I imagined it to be but it's pretty darn good. I watched the cook prep and prepare the dishes in the background while standing at the counter like an idiot and I can vouch that these are fresh. They haven't been sitting 'round for hours on end. The dish comes with a huge mound of pickled veggies - julienned peppers and whatnot. They don't really go with the salmon and serve more as decoration. Somewhat wasteful but I won't complain. Marzipan Cream Cake These things are so darn cute and are literally like a giant petit fours. Not overwhelmingly sweet, but it did worry me a tad bit because I suspect that the cream IS in fact, made of cream. Chicken Strips with French Fries Your average breaded chicken breasts and potatoes deep-fried to fast food perfection. This particular item is notable because I ordered the kid's sized meal and that alone was very filling. The strips were huge, you get two with the kid's meal with a heap of fries. By the way, you can totally order off the kid's meal as an adult. No one will reprimand you for it if you want to get a sampler of everything. ;) Meatballs Again, we ordered the kid's meal version for the sake of being able to try everything. There are amazing! They are tiny but they pack a punch of flavor and the texture actually feels like meat, not some weird homogeneous mystery meat concoction. I personally love to slather them in a generous portion of lingonberry sauce. My BF loves them with the mashed potatoes gravy sans sauce. Lingonberry Juice I don't care if it's syrup mixed with water out of the soda dispenser, I have a new juice love and it's name is Lingonberry! Lingonberries have a taste that's sort of cross between a mild cherry and light cranberry. I ended up buying a few of the juice boxes to take home but I recommend that you get the dispenser variety just in case you don't like it so you can switch to a soda or something instead. In addition to the awesome offerings, everything here is super cheap. You can order to your heart's content and it would probably be around $10-15. I think if you buy $100+ of furniture, your meal is free. Be sure to say hi and smiles to the employees there. I love IKEA restaurants! Everything is affordable, convenient, tasty, and gives you a glimpse of what Swedish cuisine could be like. The only downside to this location is the slow moving line due to having only one side of food instead of two, like at East Palo Alto. The employees work hard with smiles but there are too many customers to serve, especially right after Black Friday at lunchtime. Food! The fam loves salmon in any form-- smoked gravad lax: with spring mix, by itself with julienne carrot mix, with a bagel and cream cheese, cold filet with bean salad; hot salmon filet with a vegetable medallion & additional veggies, etc. We also tried the new chicken meatballs-- antibiotic free chicken and oh so tasty with mashed potatoes, gravy, and lingonberry sauce. I liked their corn bread! Two squares for 99 cents. Dessert wise, Princess cream cake is my absolute favorite. They defrost it so the cream atop a thin layer of jam and sponge cake is soft, wrapped up in pink marzipan with chocolate drizzle. I usually get my meatball place favorite, but this time I happened to see the Braised Beef and had to give it a go. It looked so delicious! And it WAS! What a surprise to have such a filling and tasty meal. I've ordered it twice now and it's still good so consistency is apparent. I'm only reviewing this for the buy one get one free frozen yogurt / ice cream. However, there were 3 of us, so I skipped out, and looked at the little market instead. Which leads me to a story i'd like to share. Don't worry, it's fairly short. My sister got married in Denmark (it's the north border of Germany) a few months ago. I went to a bar there that had this special "iced tea" that was very fruity and delicious. The next day, at breakfast, my friend ordered a drink that had elder flower. It was the same flavour as that iced tea, and I absolutely loved it. I bought that drink for every meal I had. Upon the return to the states, I didn't find any retailers that sold this drink. Up at the restaurant, I bought a small box thing of it and it was good, but just not quite the same. It still hits the spot though. Down stairs they sell the box drinks, as well as in bottles! A bottle is 4.50, so it's quite expensive. I'll be back for a case. I'm going to test out this recipe and i'll let you know how it is: 1/2 bottle of elder flower juice 1.5-2 oz vodka 1 oz orange juice 1 squeeze of lemon 1 squeeze of lime Anyway, the rest of the bistro has a bunch of other stuff from the frozen meatballs, to cheap hot dogs (not as cheap as costco), lots of drinks, ice cream, bake a home cookie dough. read more
