Um wasn't my favorite place to eat. While I was waiting in line the cashier wasn't really paying attention to me and was putting away their tips Once she looked up I told her I was there for a pick up. This place seems like it has been around and it's nothing really special. Once you walk in, you order at the counter and wait. It's not fancy and not that many seats. I went during lunch so trying to get to this place on 4th street is a disaster.... I thought it was going to be a good place for a quick in and out. No parking at all which made me even more disappointed. I had a couple of slices of pizza. One was cheese slice, and the other pepperoni. It's a thin slice of pizza but it's a pretty good size, the sauce and cheese wasn't fantastic. To each their own. My friend ordered the beet salad and that was pretty tasty. It came with olives and a little dollop of cheese.

Oceanview doesn't have a view of the ocean but it does have a view of the diner next door. Oceanview To Go is the place to go after eating at the diner. I grab an oatmeal cookie and it was worth grabbing, I did not have to go into Peet's to get a cookie. I will come back here again

Little coffee shop right next door to the diner. Everything was nicely organized and the staff were super friendly and patient is my indecisive self took some time to finally decide to order a latte and in everything bagel with herb cream cheese. The latte itself wasn't anything too special but it was an okay latte. Maybe a little bit too much milk flavor and not enough espresso. The bagel was very solid. And I appreciate the amount of cream cheese that was on the bagel. It was enough that if you took the bagel apart there was a solid layer of cream cheese on each half. There's plenty of street parking along 4th Street. May or may not come back but it was definitely a very solid bagel.

If you're walking around on 4th Street and are looking for a quick bite, Oceanview Deli is a great option. They serve slices of pizza for around $5, as well as a wide assortment of pastries and other savory goods. The service here is quick and there's minimal wait for your order, unlike next door at the sit down diner. My wife and I shared a turkey wrap, an egg bite, and the green goddess penne pasta salad with chicken. Not a single thing I wouldn't happily order again. The penne pasta was cooked perfectly al dente, not overdressed, and portion size felt just right. Egg bite was flavorful and fluffy. Wrap was filling and wrap wasn't soggy. Would stop by again!

Ordered the Chorizo Empanada and it wasn't too bad. I like the crispy and flaky crust and the filling isn't too bad. Wasn't a lot of filling though but still taste was on point.

Great place for breakfast on 5th Street in Berkeley. Since we came on a weekday, we were seated right away. On weekends, there's a wait. There is both inside and outside seating. Staff are friendly and service is quick. I order the soufflé pancake again. Normally delicious but today was a little to eggy for my taste still, I love this place and will be coming back.!

They tack on an additional "kitchen service fee" without telling you. Keep that in mind

This review, however, is about their bagels specifically, which clock in at 3 stars. The bagels feel as if someone read a description of a New York bagel and did their best to recreate it without being totally sure they'd hit the mark. Crisp crust? Dense crumb? Malty flavor? The bagel ticks all the boxes. Yet, each aspect is slightly off. The crust was almost comically thick and took a serious bite to break through. (I guess the bakers got too enthusiastic with the water bath.) The crumb was tight but came off more as dry than chewy. And the malt syrup was poured with a liberal hand -- there is no subtlety to the flavor. To their credit, the cream cheese is well paired. It brings its own flavor with a noticeable tang, and it is dense. You need a bagel that will hold up under the pressure of a knife while spreading the thick schmear. I love that Saul's is making bagels in house now, but I think I will look elsewhere on their menu for the real comfort foods.

I like that they have a patio area, but it's been full each time I've been, so I haven't had a chance to sit outside. The staff is kind, though they tend to be a bit slow when taking orders at the front. I guess it's nice that they don't rush things, but it can be a bit frustrating when the line is long and they're chatting with each person ordering, which feels like forever. However, once you sit down, the food is delivered quickly. During my first visit, I ordered the Lobster Roll with fries, a donut to-go, and we shared an order of Fried Mozzarella Sticks. The donut was very mild; I've had way better vegan donuts, so I wouldn't get one again. I thought the lobster roll was good, but not great. It did not remind me of a lobster roll at all and was too acidic in my opinion, so I wouldn't get that again either. I loved the mozzarella sticks, though. As a vegan, that typically dislikes vegan cheese, they were a hit. My non-vegan best friend loved them too! During my second visit, I ordered a Jalapeño Business sandwich with potato salad, rocky road to-go, and mozzarella sticks to share since I loved them so much the first time. My friend got a Buffalo Ranch Fried Chicken sandwich, and we decided to swap halves to try more things. I love spicy food, so if I had to choose a favorite, I'd pick my sandwich over hers, but both sandwiches were fantastic! The potato salad was good, but kind of bland for my taste. The rocky road was so yummy, and like last time, the mozzarella sticks did not disappoint. I love supporting fully vegan restaurants and will definitely go back to try more items on the menu. Maybe brunch next time I'm in the area? Not sure, but I highly recommend dropping by. Whether you're vegan or not, they have something tasty for everyone. In fact, each time I've gone, it's been with non-vegan friends, and they all say they'd eat here again.

Awhile back, I tried to bring as much business to Star Meat as I could because 1. it's a small business and 2. it's inside Star Grocery (which I LOVE, so it's convenient). When I would go there, there would often be 2 or 3 people behind the counter and oftentimes I would be the only customer. I felt like I had to stand there forever before anyone even acknowledged I existed. Each person would be busy doing something, but there was no "I'll be with you in 2 minutes." Finally, I went one day and there were 3 workers behind the counter chatting with each other. I was the only customer and was standing around 6 feet away from them, looking right at them. They went on with there conversation (not doing any other work) for a full 5 minutes. Finally I thought, "OK, they really don't seem to want my business, so I can go to any one of 4 other places and get what I want." That was a year or two ago. So, today I thought, why not give it another try, it's certainly convenient. Again, I'm the only customer at the counter. One guy is washing equipment and two guys are making sandwiches. I know that they know that I'm there, there are mirrors all along the back wall exactly for the purpose of seeing the customers. After around 4 minutes I think, who knows how long I'm going to be standing here. Maybe they have to make 20 sandwiches and I'll be here for a half hour. So, I left. I don't have anything like this experience at the 4 other meat counters I go to in the area. I'm totally fine waiting if I have some sense that I'm waiting for a purpose and that the worker will get to me as soon as they can. But at Star Meat, it feels like I'm more of an inconvenience than a customer. "Hi, I'll be with you as soon as I can," goes a long way.

One of my biggest pet peeves is when restaurants reduce the guality or quantity of their meal to cut costs while charging premium prices. I will say I didn't mind paying a few dollars more for their subs in the past. I went there today for the first time in a couple of years, ordered a regular size basic ruben sandwich (no add-ons) and was ok paying nearly $18 dollars for just the sandwich until they handed it to me. what I got was a small 6" sub. When did their subs shrink?? in this economy we are all struggling. I get it, things cost more but Craves' owner is not doing his patrons a service by charging them premiums while cutting back on the meals. If you're ok paying that much for a shrunken sub, more power to you. I l, however, will not be going back there.
