I now see that the IKEA Restaurant and the IKEA store are two separate identities so I will separate my thoughts before I type. I have had two recent experiences with the IKEA Restaurant--one not so good and one okay. Two weekends ago, my teenaged daughter had a taste for IKEA meatballs after playing at the nearby arcade so we went over, but the restaurant was jam packed, the kiosks were not being shared in a timely manner, and the restaurant was out of everything, including the meatballs that she wanted. We ended up at a nearby chicken restaurant instead. I usually ask her to be ready to go at the store's opening so this was a new experience for me and I am honestly not sure if that is the norm for a weekend afternoon. Last weekend, I went by myself for an economical breakfast before hammering out errands and to see if the the market area had the frozen food my daughter was looking for. I ordered the medium breakfast which includes their pancakes with lingonberry jam, eggs, and bacon. I also ordered a side of the Swedish meatballs because it simply feels weird to eat at IKEA without eating a meatball. I also ordered a fountain drink because the lingonberry is delicious and feels healthy, a free coffee because I am an IKEA family member, and a slice of the mascarpone berry cake because I am an adult with free will and sometimes I need to do something out of the box so I don't feel suffocated by my usual routines, haha. The pancakes and jam were as delicious as I remembered. The eggs reminded me of the ones you get in a free hotel breakfast and needed ketchup for me to eat them for protein. The bacon wasn't as crispy as I would have liked, but the taste was there. The meatballs were on point. I was disappointed because the fountain drink machine dispensed exactly one cup of lingonberry juice before it stopped working. I enjoy fountain drinks because I can drink a lot of liquid--good thing I don't imbibe, haha. The coffee was surprisingly delicious and didn't even need a type of milk, which is good, because my non-dairy self didn't see any options available. I just added a little bit of sugar and sipped it with my coffee. The cake was not as good as I remember, it felt dry and basically disintegrated into a small plate of crumbs I wasn't quite sure how to eat in public. The tables are usually clean despite it being self-service and they have most everything you would need--silverware, honey mustard, ketchup, BBQ sauce, etc. TL;DR--I would eat here if my daughter asked me for the meatballs, otherwise I would personally choose somewhere else. read more

Hoping to have dinner here, we arrived shortly before 6 PM on a Saturday to find the restaurant completely FUBAR. Nearly half of the ordering kiosks were kaput and there were long, slow-moving lines at the functioning kiosks. Right away, we observed why things were gummed up: Confusion. There is no "Help" button, and if any personnel were available to assist customers with the restaurant's arcane ordering system, they made themselves invisible. By the time we reached the touch screen, one of the few entrées they had not yet run out of was Swedish meatballs. Fine, but we couldn't figure out how to order an entrée without a "meal deal," which includes a beverage. I asked the folks who were standing patiently in line behind us, but they were equally clueless. Exasperated, I decided instead to order soup, salad and dessert. Well, guess what? When in need of a quick cost effective meal while shopping, the IKEA restaurant is the place to go. Although prices have sky rocketed in the past few years, the flavors and food is still the same. I can always count of them for satisfying my craving if Swedish meatballs. The restaurant is located in the center of the top floor and to order you just go up to the kiosk and order as you please. Once you're done ordering you'll get a ticket with a number and it will be called out for you to grab from the counter. I do miss the people aspect of ordering and walking around but I totally understand the chance. Also note that the extra meatballs were $4 for 4 meatballs! I'll definitely be back to fulfill a craving or grab a bite to eat while shopping again. :) read more

Many people know about Ikea and their meatballs at this point right? This location has a very open area seating with ordering kiosks, making it easy to line up and eat. The kitchen is wide open too so you can see your food be prepared. In terms of service, they call your number up when it's ready. But also, the ordering screen will have your number on there so you'll know when it's ready for you. The most helpful thing is that they also have tray carts so if only one of you are waiting for food while the other secures a table, you can grab everything. Now - in terms of food: My partner and I ordered the Swedish meatball meal, she ordered the plant meatballs, the marinated salmon baguette, the 99 cent cake slice, and the $2 chocolate cake too. Including two bottles of water it cost us under $30 for both, so it's pretty affordable. The meatball meal was really good! There was an option to keep/not keep the lingonberries on the plate. Personally I wasn't a fan but my partner liked it so it's by preference at that point. The meatball and gravy like sauce with the mashed potatoes were great though! The peas were a good touch. Definitely recommend it. The salmon baguette, as a warning to folx that don't eat sushi, does come with a mostly raw salmon. I liked it, it wasn't anything amazing, but decent. I don't think the baguette worked well with the salmon but not bad. We split the baguette though which is good because I don't think I would be a fan of eating the whole thing. The cakes were good though! The 99 cent one gave a brownie cake vibe so if you want a legit cake I would go with the $2 one. That chocolate cake was really good! Overall 4/5 rating of the restaurant. I used to stop in the restaurant for a tasty Swedish lunch and enjoyed seeing the different food stations. It was laid out well and check out was easy. They have now gone to automated ordering and it is awful. Not all the machines were running, it was hard to order and they were out of a lot of items. You had to wait for a free machine and each person ordering took a while because it was hard to figure out. The food was good but not cheap. They could give you a roll or cracker with entrees, but do not. Even the automated soda machine was hard to operate and they were even out of cola. You have to hang around near the kitchen while one lady calls your number. Not fun like it used to be. read more

The seating area is mostly clean and very spacious with a lot of room and I really love the little coloring area for small children. That being said I am still mad at IKEA for taking chicken meatballs off their menu as it was the best thing they had. Also the kiosks were beyond frustrating and everyone using them at the time I was there had people having to come over and help them. I miss the days of being able to walk up to the food, see what was fresh, and order. They're fast at serving you, but I dunno I prefer the old way. Stopped in for lunch on a weekday. Arrived early, about 11:30 and there were not a lot of people at the restaurant. The restaurant itself is on the 3rd floor of the IKEA store. Enter in the main entrance and go up two escalators or take the elevator. There's also a bistro on the first floor that has similar offerings. You place your order and pay at a kiosk, get your receipt with order number, and wait for your number to be called. I was looking for a light lunch and went for the "Kids" Swedish meatballs dinner. It comes with 4 meatballs, broccoli, garlic mashed potatoes and lingonberry sauce. On the receipt, it's listed as "small" size. The meatballs are decent, the mashed potatoes full of flavor, and the Lingonberry sauce was somewhat generous and delicious. The smaller portion was surprisingly filling enough for lunch. You can save yourself a trip to the 3rd floor by going to the Bistro in the first floor. read more

This review is just for the cafe/cafeteria portion of the store. This location recently renovated. They installed touchscreen ordering only. This is similar to McDonalds, but fails completely in its implementation. We visited on a 1/13/24. It was lunch hour. With no exaggeration, half of the terminals were offline. While we were waiting in line to order, 2 other terminals went down while people were ordering. We waited 10 minutes to finally put in our order. With the new system food requests that should take about 3 min take a good 8-10 minutes. We are a family of four with two girls 9 yrs old. It shouldn't be this hard. On the menus, there is no customization at all. I prefer my meatballs with extra gravy and no lingonberry sauce. Sorry. It's not happening. There are no options to customize. I get that labor costs and efficiency and all that, but we won't be eating here again. Sadly, we went to the Bolingbrook location which still has the 'order with a human' set up. They told us that that location along with Oak Creek, WI will also be getting this system. This will definitely have us NOT eating at Ikea and ultimately spending less time there. With prices in the cafe what they are, Ikea is making no money on food, but it's there to keep you in the store. I get it. With these changes, it seems there will be less folks spending less time in the store. read more

Been coming to IKEA for decades since they moved in well over 22 more years ago. I've never written a yelp on either the restaurant or the store until now. Recently revisited and enjoyed what I always enjoy there which is the meatball plate. Great to see the restaurant open again as it did shut down temporarily during Covid. Pricing is very fair considering the portions and of course you can buy the meatballs and take them home the only disappointing thing is that that that the gravy Has been out of stock for over a year. Not sure what's going on there but it's a real problem. And at one point last year I did stop by and they were also out of meatballs. But they recently are in stock again. So if you're here shopping and spending a whole day like a lot of people are the restaurant is definitely worth a stop. read more

MEATBALL MADNESS The dining area inside this sprawling Schaumburg IKEA serves cheap food to hordes of hungry shoppers. On a typical day, I wouldn't eat here until *after* shopping at the famous chain, but a hungry Nichole C requested lunch pronto on 7/21/18. The weekend crowds were ridiculous on another "million dollar day" (in which the store nets over $1M in sales), and their foodcourt was no exception. We waited in line for quite a while before getting trays and shuffling over to where they dished out Swedish meatballs in gravy with lingonberry sauce. For $5.99, we each got a dozen of 'em with mashed potatoes and steamed veggies. A great deal, truthfully. I considered getting the smoked salmon, but that (and the cooked salmon filet) looked discolored, like someone painted it with an artificial enhancer. The broccoli cheddar soup ($3) and garlic toast ($1) were mighty tasty. Her blueberry cheesecake ($3) and my "princess" cream cake with marzipan ($1) were solid desserts at a more than reasonable price. Drinks are $1 each, the selection is sparse, and the glasses are tiny, but so what? Just get 12 refills, problem solved. Things were a little messy, but seeing as how they were in the throes of a hectic lunch hour, I'll let it slide. I can't fault them for cleaning up every table spill left behind by some reckless family. They were timely in getting chafers reloaded, though. * TL;DR * It's a brilliant business strategy from those sneaky Swedes: keep customers in your store by offering inexpensive foodstuffs, because once you lose them to an outside place for lunch, they're not gonna come back. IKEA has been the world's largest furniture retailer since 2008, and their commitment to being budget-friendly is a big reason why. Quality sometimes takes a back seat (as evidenced by the salmon items), but no one's doubting the amazing value of their centralized cafe. Following a busy morning/afternoon of browsing the endless aisles of furniture, I'd definitely recommend stopping by this in-store restaurant, if for no other reason than to enjoy a plate of meatballs with a $1 dessert. read more

Amazing food for a great value! I ordered the veggie balls and salmon balls with a side of grilled veggies. The salmon balls had a hollandaise sauce topping and the veggie balls came with a curry sauce topping. Both were extremely satisfying and very affordable! The veggies were even tasty. Veggie balls at $3.99 are a steal. Salmon balls on the side for a couple extra bucks are definitely worth it. Don't forget about dessert. Daim Cake and frozen berry cheese cake were also very good and for only a couple bucks each. I bought all this for less than $11. Couldn't be happier. The exit cafe any the registers also has amazing veggie dogs for less than $1. The Stockholm salad was good but a little pricey. read more

The food is delicious and the restaurant is being very careful with COVID (following local regs about looking at vaxx cards & matching to IDs, etc). The food is delicious, reasonably healthy (depending on what you order), and ridiculously cheap. It's also a great way to break up your shopping experience. I do wish the lines were organized better; if you're new, you line up next to the station that you want to order food from. The more seasoned Ikea dining people know better, but by cutting through the line and lining up on the specific kiosk/food station, it looks like you're cutting people, and that sometimes annoys others. I don't know what a viable solution is, but I wish it was just organized better. This time around, I ordered the smoked salmon sandwich. The BBQ sauce that comes with it was not overwhelming. The bun though was somewhat dry, but that's easily curable with the many condiments you can select from at the checkout station. For $4.99, not too bad. You walking around IKEA is like the ride you can't get off of some when you come to the 2nd level and see it, you take a break! There is free WiFi so you can check email or surf the web. They have some decent size portions for the price so you will leave satisfied. The meatballs were ok but coupled with the sides brought the flavor together. So when my 21 year-old son wanted to go check out Ikea, we had to stop and get some food. It was a Saturday so the place was a mess. Very busy. While the line moved pretty quickly, they were definitely lacking in a few areas. There was no forks in one of the silverware sections so i had to navigate through craziness to try and find another one, which was really annoying. I got the meatballs and he got the chicken strips. After one bite i realized why i choose not to stop usually. And then my son bit into a funky bite in the chicken... so we were both just kinda grossed out. Came here at almost 8 pm on Wednesday night and was worried that the kitchen had closed, but nope--they were still open for business. Score! We could still get in a cheap dinner and then go shopping, yes!! I haven't been to IKEA in years and was pleasantly surprised to see both chicken and veggie meatballs in addition to the normal Swedish meatballs on the menu. But then I spied a roast chicken, which looked juicy and delicious, so I opted for that as my dinner. Unfortunately, the chicken was REALLY salty and the veggies were way overdone. The mashed potatoes and gravy were okay. (It's hard to mess up mashed potatoes.) I washed my meal down with copious amounts of water from my $1 Crystal Geyser and lamented the fact that my meal was almost 800 calories after logging it in MyFitnessPal. Oh well, lesson learned--I'll go for the meatballs next time (only 400-500 calories I think). The food is no nonsense and a little on the bland side but the price point makes me giggle - 99 cents for breakfast, a salmon dish for a few dollars - how can you go wrong? The cinnamon rolls aren't Ann Satherish but once again, it's IKEA. You can apply this same mindset to the furniture, no nonsense, economical for what you get and pay for. Back to the food, the meatballs aren't too bad and I do like the lingonberry spread. I can't think of any other in-store restaurant that even comes close. Some words of caution: don't come here during lunch/dinner hours (12-2pm; 5-7pm). Otherwise, the line is going to be long. I wouldn't mind long lines that much, but their line to the hot-food ordering counter was confusing. I followed the instruction, "line up under the picture of what you would like to order." I wanted to order the salmon dinner, yet there was always someone in front of me popping out of nowhere. I thought most of them were wanting the chicken dinner, and the "chicken picture" was hung at a different counter above. After a few minutes of struggle, I successfully fetched my salmon dinner. I then grabbed one of the pink princess cakes and the ceramic coffee mug. By the way, if you have the IKEA orange member card, you can get a free coffee or hot tea (re-fills are available). That's a $0.75 saving. The entire store provides free wifi, and it worked well the entire time I was sitting at the cafe. Overall, it's a fun store and food is always decent. read more

It's good food at an amazing deal and offers a great break after trekking through three stories of furniture and home goods. Their meatball meal deal is just $3.99 and the portion is huge, comes with Swedish Meatballs, mashed potatoes, lingonberries and a bowl of soup. The portion was so big that two of us shared the 15 meatballs & sides for dinner. Yes you read that right...Dinner for 2 for $4!!! Does it get any better than that? My friend was so impressed he vowed we are going to go just for dinner more often (haha we'll see about that). Downstairs on the checkout floor, you can get 2 hot dogs for $1 or 2 hot dogs, chips and a drink for $2! The hot dogs aren't as big or as tasty as the great deal down the street at Costco but it's still a good deal. Frozen yogurt is just $1 downstairs and a good sized cone!
