IKEA is just a fun place for inspiration and ideal place to get all your home needs. Not to mention, they have an awesome cafeteria with vegan and vegetarian options upstairs at relatively good price point. Walking through the showrooms are always fun, but it is annoying how some items are only available upstairs and not downstairs! I would appreciate a sign that says so. Instead I had to run all the way back to look for it and if you've been here, you would know it is almost a maze. A great place to shop for modern furniture at an affordable price point. Do double check if you have all the parts though before you leave the facility. Sometimes they stack the boxes incorrectly and multiple boxes may be needed for a piece of furniture. Furthermore, annoyingly some boxes may be missing the required screws and pins so opening them to check before you leave is a good idea (especially if you live far). I wouldn't say all their things are great, some are bad quality, but just be mindful what you buy! read more

The last time I've been here was about 6 years ago. I forgot how much I love this place! Everything you need for your home or office is here. I found beautiful serving dishes for entertaining. I snagged some cute cat beds. They have a great amount of kitchenware. I love how environmentally aware IKEA is and they purposely create home goods for the environment. I purchased a queen bedsheet set made of wood chips for $40. Crazy! It's absolutely comfortable. They have beautiful types of lamps and lights. I love how they set up the showrooms to give yourself inspiration for your own home. And the prices! They are so affordable! Wow, this is sensory overload IKEA! There appeared to be only one level of parking under the store and everyone went through the same route (hello traffic jam!). Then once I parked and made my way over to seemingly the only one area of entrance/exit, I found out the escalators didn't work, and there were construction signs everywhere. It created chaos as I was only interested in picking up a few plant pots. Fortunately being familiar with an IKEA layout, I made my way and had to navigate around harried and inattentive families. Checkout lines were also pretty long with people filling up their cart(s). I wish they had lines for people with less than 10 items? It's good and even almost great. Parking is usually available but theY may want to consider adding more spots. Prices are fair. Food is mostly good but used to be incredible. Store is sometimes messy & it's hard to find a human being to answer a question for you. Mostly ikea just needs to open up a store in Fairfax or Loudon counties so we can all stop making the trek out to College Park or Potomac Mills. I will NOT ever return to this IKEA location. I would not recommend anyone to patronize the location at all. The customer service is unprofessional. The manager came and approached me with an attitude. I was just trying to exchange two small storage items. The manager would not give me his name so all I can say is he is African-American with a little pony tail. They did not take into account Covid-19 is the reason it was a year and a half before I could come and exchange. Also, I am not from Virginia. We drove from North Carolina for non-courtesy. We were only trying to exchange two Drona storage boxes not Fort Knox. IKEA still has Drona on the shelf to sell. He dismissed our request by shoving the items back into my hands as if to say "get out" in which he did say "are these the items" ,"are these what you are talking about". I am not confrontational. So I, my husband, and my 7 year old son just left. They made us late for our hotel check in. The reason for our visit to the area was to bring our son to the National Air and Space Museum. This store is a messss. I used to love ikea but my experience at the Woodbridge location has been pretty bad. I ordered a desk online and my order was cancelled. I was told to go to the store. I went to the store and they were completely out of desks under $250. Like literally no desks. I figured since I was there, I'd pick up some other things I wanted like a lamp, kitchen cart, comforter, 20x20 pillows, and plant stand. Every item was sold out. I know we're in the middle of a pandemic and this is so trivial but it was still frustrating. I asked an employee about ordering some items and she rudely said "I can't do that" and walked off. A little look into my "customer service" experience with IKEA. My apologies, because this is going to be lengthy: Alec and I ordered a fair amount (and spent a fair amount of money) of furniture from IKEA. All of this was to be delivered on September 9th. Things went wrong from the beginning. Called the delivery company the day before so I could get my delivery window. Was told "we don't have a time yet, call back at x time and we'll have it then." I called that delivery company 4 more times that day and each time was told a later time to call back before eventually it was 8:45pm and I was told "Sorry, everyone has left for the day, call back tomorrow." A little annoying, but okay, I'll call back tomorrow. Next day, delivery day, furniture finally arrives, but there's no table top even though we ordered and paid for one. Talk to the delivery dispatch "sorry, call IKEA". I call IKEA several times that day and each time I call I don't even get a person on the phone, I get a recording: "Sorry, we're expecting a high volume of calls and cannot take your call. Please call back later." I call IKEA the next business day, Monday, and still the same recording that they can't take my call. I call again on Tuesday and finally get through to someone. They were pleasant and so sorry I didn't get what I paid for. "Okay, we can have the table to you Monday the 17th." Wait... I have to wait another week to get what wasn't delivered to me? Can't you just overnight it? Can't you put it on the next truck out? "No, I'm so sorry, this is when the delivery company can get it to you." Okay... fine. I'll wait. Yesterday was Monday the 17th. No table top. No attempted delivery. No phone call from delivery company or IKEA. I pick up the phone and call IKEA... "Sorry, we're receiving a high volume of calls at this time and cannot take your call." I call the delivery company, they have no idea what I'm talking about and don't have my table. I call IKEA today, the day after I was supposed to receive my table for the 2nd time. I have to call them 20 times, T-W-E-N-T-Y times, today before I can get an IKEA customer service associate on the phone. "I'm so sorry you didn't get your table. Looks like it hasn't left the warehouse yet to get to the delivery company. We can get it to you on the 22nd..." Wait, that's two weeks after I was promised this table the first time. It was supposed to be here yesterday after they messed up the first time. Can I get this sooner? I haven't had a dining room table to eat meals at for over a week now and I have to wait yet another week? I paid for this table and the delivery and it wasn't delivered twice. Please just tell me what we can do to get me this table. "Sorry, you'll receive an email from us when your table to going to be delivered." At this point I offer to drive up the College Park IKEA (in rush hour traffic on the Beltway) to get this dang table. I'll pick it up myself! I just want a table top. "Okay, but you'll have to re-purchase it when you arrive to the local store. We can't cancel your order now because it's in transit." But it's not in transit. You just told me it hasn't left the warehouse and isn't even in the hands of the delivery company. It's sitting in an IKEA warehouse waiting. At this point I ask for a manager because I really just want my table and I'm at work, I'm already spending my whole lunch trying to get someone on the phone. This is where is gets frustrating. The manager has no interest in helping my issue. She tells me repeatedly "Your options are either to wait for the table to arrive on the 22nd or you can call us back when you receive an email that your table has shipped, and we'll cancel it and you can go in store to pick it up." Ma'am, I don' want that. I want the table I paid for over a month ago. I want the table that was promised to me twice over now. I will pick it up myself. I'll do whatever, I just want my table. When I say this manager told me repeatedly her same answer above, I mean she repeated her scripted non-resolution, deal with it attitude answer of "Your options are either to wait for the table to arrive on the 22nd or you can call us back when you receive an email that your table has shipped and we'll cancel it and you can go in store to pick it up." Verbatim. For nearly 20 minutes. Okay, well will I be reimbursed any way for this? This has been incredibly inconvenient and time consuming. "No...you'll have your table." IKEA, I can promise you that you will never have another order from myself or my husband. Had there been any "Let me solve this for you" or "we messed up, lets fix this," then we might be in a different boat. But if you read all of this and still want to deal with the headache and waste of time that IKEA will give you at the cost of your own time, money, and patience, then be my guest. 3.5 stars for this IKEA location... Boy, do I love IKEA. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help myself. When I suggested we hit up IKEA Woodbridge today, husband yelped (literally, not our kind), "Are you serious? SUICIDE!" He's right. This place gets puh-acked on weekends. But if you get here early enough, or during a weekday and know what you're looking for, you can cruise. I like to amble, however. And browse. Even if I do know what I'm after. And this location is perfect for that: a meandering maze of showrooms and furniture, followed by the sensory-overloading Marketplace. Love. And the helpful blue arrows are there to follow for those who are directionally challenged. It'd be hard to get lost, tho, despite the enormity of this place. They route you right through the cafeteria, too. I can usually entice husband to come along with me by breathing, "Meatballllls with lignonberrrries," in his ear. Suggestive, right? IKEA furniture comes in all price-ranges, which is nice. From the super cheesy, super affordable, to the much nicer, much more expensive and higher end. And I love the accessories. I never knew I needed a magnetic spice organizer or or gigantic decorative vase of bamboo until I perused IKEA's Marketplace. My one gripe about this location is that half the time I get the assemble-yourself-with-the-help-of-the-wordless-fat-cartoon-man furniture home, something is missing or broken. Seriously. So frustrating. Especially when this IKEA is in the boondocks and so hard to get to from civilization. OK, so another gripe is that getting back here to return/exchange something (somewhat of a nightmare in its own right) is a real pain in the arse. read more

My visit to Ikea on Saturday reminded me why I both love and feel intimidated by the store at the same time. Let's start with why I love it: 1. Cheap furniture. 2. Fun showrooms that provide endless design inspiration. 3. A super organized system that allows easy tracking and then makes finding desired products painless. 4. Cheap home decor and accessories. 5. Helpful staff. 6. Did I mention it's cheap? Now let's move to the intimidation factors: 1. So many products to choose from that it's hard to make a decision. 2. The showrooms could be easier to navigate in terms of figuring out exactly what items make up certain displays (for example, I was really interested in this one shelving unit, but I couldn't discern which pieces from a particular furniture series were used to create the unit.) 3. Everywhere I turn, I'm faced with yet another piece that I'd like to purchase. Enter consumer confusion. 4. Did I mention there are a ton of products to choose from? If you're like me and have to travel to visit Ikea, here's my biggest tip: take accurate measurements, and check them twice, before going. Shipping costs are insane if you try to buy online, so make sure you can stock up while in store. I wanted a $70 shelf, but shipping was $100! No, thanks. I'd rather make the day trip to NOVA. Oh, IKEA. We've had such a long relationship -- my first Billy bookshelves full of Dr. Seuss books, that crazy loft bed from my teenage years, artsy lighting and cheap futons throughout college, and now, my partner and I even decided to remodel our kitchen using your cabinets, countertops and appliances. All from this one IKEA location too, since we never left Virginia. Hell, I remember sometime back when I was a wee tyke and IKEA was actually attached to the rest of Potomac Mills. So then why, IKEA, must I give you only three stars? It sounds like I've been a devoted customer all my life, even if some of those years it was my parents' money being spent, not my own. It's because of the bullshit you threw in my face when we started ordering our kitchen. Like a moody ex-boyfriend, you made excuses, lied, and didn't deliver. Setting up the kitchen was easy enough using the online kitchen planner. When we got there, someone was helpful with double checking our kitchen. However, all of the countertops and some of the cabinet doors we wanted were out of stock, and we were told they wouldn't be in stock for weeks. We couldn't pre-order them, or reserve some for when they did come in. They offered us a gift card (?!?) to "come back and pick them up when they're in stock". How do you know if they're in stock? "Just check online that morning and drive up." Great. If we wanted them shipped, we would have to pay extra, separate shipping to the tune of $130. Once we paid for the items that were miraculously in stock, we wheeled ourselves down to the shipping desk to arrange for shipping. We were told repeatedly that we would be able to have everything delivered within a week. We checked MONTHS ahead of time about this. Called IKEA headquarters in Oslo or whatever. The girl at the delivery desk said blankly, "Uh, the best I can get you is two weeks from now." What the fucking fuck. At that point, they offered no help, no customer service, no APOLOGY of any kind. We scrambled to find a U-Haul and opted to shell out the $200 there to drive it home ourselves instead of waiting an additional two weeks for half of the items we needed. It was ridiculous, and IKEA didn't make anything easier. As I write this review, I now have countertops, although they are not the kind we originally wanted, but only because we checked the stock ourselves and drove back up to get them. Some of my cabinets still don't have doors because they're not in stock, and two of the doors we took home with us in our U-Haul arrived with dings and scratches on the outside. Would we do it again, IKEA? Would we still go on this crazy ride with you? I hate to say it but yeah, probably. You were cheaper than anything else we could find, and honestly, our kitchen (what we have of it) does look pretty freaking snazzy. But that doesn't mean I can't shake an angry fist at you for being so sullen and obstinate. read more

Oh IKEA, my survival furniture through college and now grown into completing my adult home. Be aware that IKEA does cater to all price ranges. From a $5 stool, to your $200 stool, you'll find it here. Best of all, the price reflects the quality. Though, you'd be surprised how long my $10 side table and $25 bookshelf has lasted me and that thing is made with recycled wood. Of course, coming to IKEA means taking a stroll through the showroom as well as the marketplace. Coming here with a mission is very difficult. You will somehow find the NEED to purchase many other items for your house. Suddenly you need 10 more items than you initially intended. Did they read your mind? Or maybe tapped into your deepest interior designer desires. Not feeling like having your kids follow you as you try out every single couch in the store? They have Småland, a play area that you can near the entrance. Not sure about details, but the website states that children 37-54" inches tall and potty trained can stay there. If you have the Family card, you will also get a deal, I think a free 30-minutes or something like that. Speaking of Family card, don't miss it. You also get a free coffee sometimes, and discount on your meal from the IKEA cafe. The cafeteria offers the famous Swedish meatball dish, now expanded to also include chicken meatballs and veggie meatballs. There's also the smoked salmon salad or sandwich wrap if you're not in the mood for meatballs. Downstairs, you can find the food market area where you can grab a $1 cone of yoghurt ice cream. Don't miss the as-is section, where you can find discontinued, display, and returned items for a fraction of the original price. We've found several furnitures and other home goods there for really cheap with only minor damages. Other times we're lucky and found brand new items that seems to be discontinued. Check it often, you'll be surprised what you can find! Customer service and return area has always been very helpful. We've recently returned the dresser that has been recalled and the process can not be smoother. Literally in and out in no time. Missing parts to your furniture? You can get many of the parts for free from the customer service. Tip: Planning to buy a lot of small items? Plan to bring a shopping bag because IKEA doesn't provide one for you. They sell the large blue shopping bags (made of tarp) that you can buy for $0.79. We got one and use it every time we go to IKEA. The bag goes right into the cart they've created specifically to hold the bags (those are the cart you see without the baskets). All in all... Who doesn't love IKEA? :) read more

I love this place mainly because of the cheap and delicious food, Mac and cheese, Swedish meatballs, steam veggies, mash potatoes, and cranberry sauce, and pasta, the red sauce was a little salty, but everything was really good. After my girlfriend and I ate, we went around IKEA to walk off the food. The place was like a maze, but there were arrows to show us the way out. IKEA. What isn't to like? There isn't anything that they have forgotten in the way of furnishing a home. If you can't find it, you probably don't need it. Their furniture is modern and decent quality for the price. It's not high end furniture if that's what you're looking for. If your kids are like kids that run around like wild animals out of a jungle, this is not the furniture to buy; hence, the four stars and not five. However, if you have limited space and live in a city with small doorways, small rooms, etc., you've come to the right place. Everything comes in cartons for you to assemble at home. Kitchenware is absolutely ridiculous. It makes you wish you had a personal kitchen in every room in the house. You might actually need that item that you didn't know existed and will make your life sooo much easier. Tired? Plop yourself on any piece of furniture (many rooms set up) or in the cafeteria (in case you get hungry...no point in leaving) and relax. The food isn't horrible, but it's not great. It compares to pretty much any restaurant nearby but with a more appealing price tag. There is really too much I could write about IKEA, but I won't. I will give a quick tip though: If you see something you like in a room setting, TAKE A PICTURE. If you don't, I guarantee you will wish you had because you'll get home and wonder why it looked so much different there than in your home. I give national customer service some kudos for noting and correcting the problem. ======= This review is not so much about the IKEA store (Woodbridge, VA) itself, but its picking, assembly and delivery service. Last Friday (Halloween to be exact), I returned from a four-month mission overseas to move into a new place. I made a shopping list on IKEA and went into the store knowing I would get assembly for convenience. I added a wardrobe to the list and was assured by a wardrobe/furniture assistant that she could do my entire order. Grace T was her name. She took almost two hours to place the order. No, I wasn't shopping, I was watching her, another employee and a manager struggle with the computer system to figure out how to place an order and adding picking (meaning you don't have to go and look for the items) delivery and assembly. It was 9:45pm when this was done and I rushed to the checkout to be able to get my purchases. Delivery day comes and I discover that Grace and company seriously botched my order. I have a wardrobe that is missing hinges and has components in two different colors. She forgot a chair on the order and didn't request that the delivery company assemble everything I told them two. The wardobe was missing a stabilizer, which means I cannot open it without it tipping forward. The picking service costs $40, delivery was $59 and assembly (which wasn't completed) cost $328! The delivery company, well here are the high and low lights: - One guy did wait while I called customer service to sort things out and assembled what he could. - The pieces they put together were done well. Lows: - They left a piece undone and didn't/couldn't finished the wardrobe. - One guy listened to music and argued with his wife on the phone the entire time he was in the apartment putting things together. - One of them dirtied my bathroom... - They left without doing one piece we knew they were supposed to and one would not come back to help. The other did do it. Another piece they were supposed to do was debatable b/c the store made a mistake. Now for IKEA's customer service. It is a national phone number. You can't ever call back to the store itself and are always talking to some operator. On Monday, November 3rd, I called and spoke to a wonderful man named Lester who acknowledged the mistakes and offered to send another service out with the correct items to finish the assembly job at no additional charge. He gave me a case number and said the store would call me. This seemed like the reasonable and appropriate response from the business. Two days later, I get a voicemail and call back to be told by a different agent with a fantastic attitude that 1) her colleague was wrong and probably was not properly trainined (!) and 2) that there was nothing IKEA would do to fix the issues and this woman actually said "I should remind you that IKEA is a self-serve business." Ummm not when you pay for extra services... After explaining the ordeal that was my experience in the store, she agreed to send another case number back to the store as it was "their decision." I never heard anything else from IKEA Woodbridge. Here is the thing, if I came in with a moving truck and hauled everything away, it would be self-service. I paid for delivery - which means IKEA has the responsibility to deliver everything I ordered or make it right. I paid for picking, which means IKEA Woodbridge is responsible for pulling the order correctly or fixing mistakes. I paid for assembly, which means everything should be assembled or provided so the workers can complete their jobs. This is a mess, if I could post the photos I have, I would. Finally IKEA Woodbridge, your employees should be trained/competent enough to place an order for a customer or have enough integrity to refer them to someone else if they don't have the capacity or skills. Your customer service agents should be trained to give customers decent information and at least call back - especially at the prices these services cost. My advice, do treat IKEA like a self-serve store and don't waste your money on any of the extra services. They can't provide customer service, it's a waste of money and dealing with them is a tax on your soul. read more

Grab a cart and get breakfast in the cafe. The coffee is free in the morning and the food is decent enough for what you're paying... like college cafeteria level. Still I wouldn't give it amazing culinary reviews. The real benefit is that you're already in the store and still about fifteen minutes before opening. Assuming you've done your homework online, you can see the layout of the store and figure out the route you want. There's a couple cut-throughs where you can avoid the path that hits every section. The online stock check is useless. Twice I've been here after checking stock online, only to find the items are gone. Since I checked before it opened and was the first one in, I guess it was magic or Ikea teasing me. By this time, you'll give up on the color you wanted and take whatever's there. The other issue with the warehouse part is they move things without changing the location signs in the showroom. Finding a worker to ask is like finding a Metro worker whenever there's a major delay. The annoying part of the checkout is that they now charge you for bags. I just dropped $400 on a particleboard LAARS bedroom set and a SKAAVENDAR coffee table, do you really have to nickel and dime me for a plastic bag to hold the spatula I picked up??!?!? Since you parked by the loading area, you can back right up to an empty spot. If you do it right and avoid distractions, you'll be back home before 11am. It's cheap furniture but if you do the Ikea trip any other way, you will cry. read more

Well, interesting enough, my former house was fully decorated with IKEA. I used to love their simple and inexpensive furniture, however, I will be the first to say that they don't have the best quality. I've gotten to the point that i'm actually willing to pay $100's more to get better quality furniture that I don't have to put together myself :) Customer service is usually a miss here unfortunately. I've never been asked if I need help (when obviously i'm always walking around trying to figure out how to get out of this place) and the 2 or 3 times that I've actually asked for help, the staff has always just pointed fingers instead of walking me to the item that they're pointing to! What? Where? Which One? OMG...Nevermind! The had their cafe closed for renovation, this should be interesting. Their food isn't horrible but it's like a school cafeteria. We'll see what the new kitchen will have to offer. With all of that being said, you're probably wondering why i was there :) Well, mom still loves this place and I just tagged along for the ride. Ok I love IKEA. I may love the meatballs the most but whatever lol. This location is very large and I haven't had an issue with parking. I just had to return an item and I thought I was going to have to struggle to carry everything but they actually have a returns area out front where you can back in and go inside, take a quick number and you're done! read more

I have to get this off my chest - I don't know what the big deal is about Swedish meatballs in ikea, they were bland and tasteless. Now to the store - one has to get used to this place, but it is an interesting concept for sure. After we had made our selections and went to the self service area to pickup our book shelves there was no one there to help load the rather heavy boxes on to our cart - we waited for a good 15 mins before someone helped us. The same story repeated with the loading of the boxes into our minivan - no help was in sight and finally we somehow loaded the 6 heavy boxes ourselves. The furniture is better quality than what we've ordered from Amazon but we won't be going back to the store any time soon. read more

I'll admit it, IKEA is my guilty pleasure. I come here as often as I can to check out what new things, and sets they have to see. I have to admit that almost all the furniture in my house is IKEA and I don't have a problem with that. If people are complaining about the quality and things falling apart, that is because they have put it together wrong. I have become quite the expert at assembling their furniture and it will take me less than half of the time to put something together compared to the average person. Bottom line? Take your time and read the directions carefully. Another part that draws me to IKEA is the cafe. My god. So you would think that a furniture stores' food would stink, right? WRONG! The Swedish meatballs are something I crave from the depths of my soul and their Daim torte is incredible. All the other food is pretty decent as well. Don't miss the Swedish market by the checkout... Everything here is very affordable and if you don't go during peak times it is actually very convenient and hassle free. read more

I understand why people flock here because the selection is huge and prices are great!! It was a clusterfuck though. IKEA has its own cafeteria, two level parking garage and then some. It just keeps going on and on and on like a maze with furniture and appliances arranged by room type and style. I came at 2pm on a Wednesday thinking it wouldn't be that crowded. Think again! Have you ever been to Tyson's Corner Mall on a Saturday night? I'd compare the congestion to that. Make sure you brace yourself with patience and safety wise for crap drivers. Everyone thinks it is their turn to have the primal parking space. Employees of IKEA are everywhere. Unfortunately I feel some of them are not knowledgeable of their product let alone where something is. I had to ask three people to get a correct answer which caused me to go on a wild chase to find the dining room area to get a table. It could have been worse, and I'm glad I had my first experience here! read more

Worst service ever. Specially a "manager" of the kitchen area - Dominique. So we paid the money to have a kitchen measured and designed. The measurement went fine But going into the planning phase, they didn't know who we were, they didn't have the measurements, nothing was designed, we had to sit there and give our estimations until we demanded they go do their job and get the measurements. They did. What followed was 2 hours of the kitchen planner working as slowly as possible to just put things into place we told them. Then he doesn't even give us access to the follow Fast forward 6 unanswered emails, finally get a call back and then I get yelled at by this incredibly rude, wildly unprofessional garbage "dominique" person. And you know what she was yelling about? That they didn't have enough time to do their job because they scheduled things wrong. What a complete terrible joke. This person needs to be fired immediately. read more

I'm so disappointed in the customer service we experienced tonight at the Potomac Mills Ikea. This location is an hour away from our home and we usually have to battle 95 traffic in order to get there, so it's quite the commitment to make it down to the store. We intended to purchase a patio dining set, and in order to transport such a large piece home required us to borrow a truck. When we arrived at the store, we were dismayed to find that the main piece of the set was out of stock. Now, we've had this experience before and know that calling beforehand is the best way to avoid this issue, however we did call and were placed on hold for nearly 40 minutes. Needless to say, we hung up and figured we would take our chances. Since this shopping trip required special arrangements, we asked the store manager if it were possible for us to purchase one of the TWO display sets that were in the store. We were emphatically told no, and when we explained our difficult situation, were rudely told, "maybe next time you should rent a U-haul." How incredibly helpful... Potomac Mills Ikea staff could take note - when frustrated customers are inquiring as to if there are any options available to help their situation, even if you can't do anything about it in the moment, a little bit of sympathy or even an, "I'm sorry, I wish we could do something else to help," goes much farther than a snarky response. read more

I have a simple philosphy, my things should live for me, but I should not live for my things. To this end, Ikea is perfect medicine, since as the price goes up for objects, we tend to get more and more tied to them, as if they live and breathe and have personalities. This is understandable since we invest our money in things and in a "lifestyle", and since our time, energy, blood is used to make money, the more we spend, the more we are invested. Ikea doesnt make the best furniture. No, certainly it isnt the best quality. But the design style, while stolen from many sources, is affordable, pleasing, and very very functional for small spaces, as well as large. Perfect furniture for modern living, they have multiple styles, not just the funky and clean style I prefer, they also now carry furniture that is more basic and traditional looking. For me, somebody who grew up surrounded by very old and very expensive (in todays dollars, not when I was around with my parents purchasing them over many laborious hours in antique shops as a child) massive traditional colonial furniture, Ikea was an amazing awakening when I went to one of their first stores as a child. My parents hated it, I loved it. When it came time to furnish my own place for the first time, I returned, making the jaunt all the way from central PA to the philly store. I was amazed then as I am now by the low prices, great style, and now over time, very suprised by the longevity of allot of their stuff. An additional benefit is, if you want to change up your style, you arent out thousands or tens of thousands of dollars. So for bringing great style at very affordable prices, and never compromising in that end despite the fact that you see their stuff on tv, and in design magazines from time to time, I give five stars. read more

How do you write a review for IKEA? Cheap food, cheap furniture, and kitchen gadget. Tips: 1. Free coffee if you eat at the cafe before the store opens. Also, if you eat breakfast before 10:00, the cost of your breakfast is deducted from your purchase if you spend $150. 2. If you like a piece of furniture or something, go to the scratch and dent section and ask if they have one in the back. Lots of times they have them in the back unassembled. We got a bed and a shelf this way. Nice steep discounts. 3. The slitbar knives: These are actually really nice. I don't know why but they hold an edge really well and they sharpen well. The utility knife is my go-to. 4. The value pack of plates/bowls/mugs for $25 is crap. You can see fork marks on all of it. Its crap. 5. Wood glue: if you buy a piece of wood furniture, put a thin bead of wood glue on all the sections you can. It makes a HUGE difference in the longevity of the furniture. its worth the extra time it takes. 6. Whitewash: IKEA is one of the only places I can find whitewash stain. Its cheap and works really well. Just be sure to give it a brush with fine sandpaper when you are done. 7: $129 baby mattress: I dont know if this thing is good or not but our baby likes it. The one upside to living in Woodbridge is having Ikea in my backyard. While the wonder of it has worn off, I love running into the marketplace for kitchen gear/towels/orchids. All on the cheap of course, and pretty environmentally friendly. Oh yeah--and the hot dog/soda deal is a can't beat lunch. Sick but true. read more

Woodbridge was one of the first locations Ikea decided to expand into the American market. I remember being a little kid and walking through the aisles in the mid-90s when it was still a part of Potomac Mills Mall. It's nice that it has its own large space, just across from the Mall. In 2005 I bought all the furniture for my college apartment here, and it held up beautifully. Prices have come down for some of the items, like the MALM series 6-drawer dresser which was even back then a good deal for $150. IKEA has inventive ways to cheaply update or modernize your living spaces. The catalog is the holy grail of showcasing all their items in an attractive way to give you all kinds of ideas. I really like that most of their items are really easy to install and assemble, and usually do not require more expensive tools like power drills. Walking through the showrooms is a time-consuming process, just because it's so big! However, before your feet start to ache, they usually have a cafeteria nearby that has quality snacks/lunches that are delicious and healthy. read more
