Much to my delight, every single plate justified my lack of discipline. The salmon crudo was graceful, the yellowtail crudo bordered on the divine, and the yellowtail roll vanished from the table with alarming speed. To accompany this culinary expedition, I enjoyed a modest glass of water alongside an alcoholic beverage enigmatically titled "Japanese Candy." Its name raised questions; its flavor answered every one of them. Pictured below is the Scallop Iki Toro Special Roll, a rather aristocratic arrangement of scallop, toro, uni, and caviar. Finally, I must extend a formal commendation to our marvelous waitress, Mia. She possessed that rare talent of being attentive, cheerful without pretense, and genuinely welcoming from beginning to end. May fortune smile generously upon her future endeavors. Had a wonderful lunch at Iki Toro today and was impressed by both the food and service. We started with the Spicy Tuna & Crispy Rice, Brussels Sprouts with toasted almonds and a nice spicy kick, and the Shrimp Miso Soup. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious. For sushi, we tried the Zesty Bluefin Tuna Roll, Spicy Shrimp Tempura Roll, Albacore Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, and Shrimp Tempura Roll. Every roll was beautifully prepared and tasted incredibly fresh. The robata skewers were also excellent. The shiitake mushrooms, Wagyu skirt steak, and shrimp were all cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. The service was impeccable, and the atmosphere was one of my favorite parts of the experience. The contemporary music created a great lounge vibe without being too loud, making it easy to enjoy both the conversation and the food. The bar is beautiful, with an impressive selection of sakes on display. I wasn't in the mood for day drinking today, but the Japanese-inspired cocktails on the menu definitely caught my eye. Came here recently for Mother's Day as I love sushi. When we arrived I was surprised to find it was the same sushi place we had visited a lot quite a few years ago. Not sure if they remodeled or if this is a new group but the inside is very upscale and modern now, a complete change from the old place. The food is also very upscale and top dollar. The menu was interestingly presented meaning I was curious to try different things. I enjoyed discovering what everything was. The specialty rolls were delicious, the skewers, especially the waygu and mushrooms were delicious! Large cocktail and mocktail menu. The only issue with this visit was the rate at which the food came out. It was really slow. We got one dish and had to wait a long while for another, even the waitress asked if we got everything toward the middle. We ordered drinks and one of the drinks didn't come out with the others. After waiting a long while we asked about it and finally got it but it was after we already ate a few dishes (Like to have the drinks out before the food comes out). The long wait wasn't on our waitress but I think the back kitchen but she also seemed to be super busy with a lot of tables. Pleasant waitress though, she did check on us a lot. I believe it was their soft opening so get that they are still figuring things out. While the food was very enjoyable, beautiful and tasty, it just needs to come out faster. Was in the area, hungry, and saw this was a newer spot, so we walked in to give it a try. Felt like a soft opening still. We were able to get seated right away and waters were brought to the table. Ordered the Japanese Candy Shop cocktail with cucumber and passion fruit. The cucumber really comes through, as it usually does with most things, and the passion fruit was hard to find. Still felt like a refreshing cocktail, just missing something. Appetizers, we started with the spicy tuna crispy rice and scallop crudo. The crudo was very good, the scallops tasted fresh with different textures coming together. Just a nice bite. The crispy rice was also delicious, nice crisp on the outside with soft rice inside, topped with tuna and a jalapeno. We also tried a wagyu skewer which felt underwhelming, unfortunately, but was seasoned well. Entrees consisted of two rolls. The spicy shrimp tempura roll felt like something was missing to bring it all together, while the Langostino roll was very good with flavor throughout the entire bite. Overall, newer Japanese restaurant in Glendale at the time putting out some decent dishes. Scallop Crudo and spicy tuna crispy rice are a must, as if the Langostino roll. We reserved the wrong number of people and they were able to accommodate us (3 adults + a baby) We've been to this place before the new ownership and it's completely revamped and upgraded. The whole restaurant felt super luxe but not stuffy if that makes sense. EVERYTHING WE ORDERED WAS SO GOOD. No misses or notes. Iki Toro showed up on my social media feed and I immediately added it to my list of places to try. The space is undeniably beautiful and was what initially drew me in. It's one of the more visually stunning new spots in the area. Unfortunately, the experience didn't quite live up to the aesthetic. The service was just okay, nothing particularly memorable, and the food itself felt underwhelming for the price point. Everything was fine, and the dishes I liked the most were the truffle edamame and the brussels sprouts which were of course the lower priced items and that didn't feel right. It was surprisingly expensive for what you get, which made the overall experience feel a bit disappointing. On top of that, the cocktail selection was limited that night (only three options), so I didn't even get to try what I originally had in mind. That said, since it's a new restaurant and there's always room to improve. I might give it another shot down the line later this year. read more

So pleasantly surprised with this place. If you don't already know, Glendale is not exactly the place for sushi... I've learned that the hard way. It feels like 99% of the spots here miss the mark, so I wasn't expecting much coming in. But Iki Toro completely changed that for me. The location is great, the decor and ambiance are really nice, and the service was wonderful and attentive throughout our visit. Most importantly, the food was actually delicious. We tried a wide range of items across the menu- appetizers, sashimi, nigiri, sushi rolls, and yakitori, and there honestly wasn't a single thing we didn't enjoy. You can really tell the quality is there, which is rare for the area. Trust me when I say: try the seabass yakitori. You will thank me later. We sat inside, which was a great experience, but I can already tell sitting outside on a nice summer evening would be even better. I was extremely impressed with most of what I ate! Admittedly, I did not eat any sushi, but the grilled meats were top notch. The pork belly salad had a delicious dressing that was sweet and salty enough, and the pork itself was pleasantly firm and delightfully tender. The lamb was so soft and juicy. The skirt steak was okay; it was the least well-cooked cut of protein of the night, but it was still pretty decent. The miso soup could have been served a little hotter. Ultimately, I'm glad that a place like this exists in Glendale, and I hope they continue to do their thing. Give them a try! read more
