Chef Jesse and his team make the best sushi my fiancé and I have ever had since we came to this spot on our first date almost 3 yrs ago (but I've been ordering delivery from them before that ). I can't believe I haven't posted a review all these years but we always end up in a food coma bc everything we've had there is so good! Some of our fav dishes to order: yellowtail handroll, toro uni caviar truffle sushi (my fav), Kama toro (fiancé's fav), glazed shrimp, mushroom medley, pork belly skewers, sweet shrimp, Jorge's special (live scallops), ikura sushi, firefly octopus (seasonal octopus that comes out only during cherry blossom season) which Chef Jesse introduced us to along with the Kama toro and we end with dessert: unagi, snow crab hand roll &/ blue crab hand roll. The ambience is very chill and we love their decor and artwork on the walls and the staff is very nice and accommodating. The menus doesn't have any descriptions for any of the hand rolls. Salmon hand roll comes with asparagus that isn't listed. Scallop hand roll comes with shiso leaf that isn't listed. Etc... Prices are also higher than what it should be. They include an 18% service fee that isn't disclosed on the menu. But worse, they include that in your bill, pre-tax, so now you're paying tax on a forced tip. Shady AF. EDIT: business owner has responded, but has not addressed that they have been charging tax on forced gratuity (I think that might be illegal? But I'm not a lawyer, so maybe it is legal to charge tax on tips in California...). Nor that their menu lacks descriptions for the food items. read more

Seaweed Handroll bar serves handrolls, but they also offer appetizers that you'd find at izakaya, they serve sashimi and nigiri and select yakitori items. We wanted to get a little bit of everything. To start our meal, we went with chicken karaage and their rice cake sampler. The rice cake sampler was basically crispy rice with varied minced tuna/lobster/shrimp and the karaage was very nicely fried chicken thigh served with a dynamite sauce and a lemon wedge. I got an order of red snapper nigiri and Hokkaido scallop nigiri and these were delicious; however, it was quite heavy on the yuzu and soy sauce. Their handrolls are what they do best here. The best handroll we had was their seared scallop handroll, which came with Hokkaido scallop, shiso leaf, rice, and yuzu. Equally memorable was their Seaweed special, which came with ikura, minced negitoro, shiso leaf, and uni. In both of these handrolls, what was impressive was how much protein they stuffed into the roll. They put so much into a handroll, it was almost like a mini sushi burrito. We came here from Long Beach; however, if we make the drive back to Glendale to Seaweed Handroll bar, we will definitely order more of their handrolls as they have great flavor balance, fair pricing, and they're very filling. read more

Had the best date night in a while, all while enjoying some of the most delicious and fresh fish around! The restaurant feels incredibly intimate, with a U-shaped bar encircling the sushi chefs in the middle. Each seat is pre-set with a plate, chopsticks, and a moist towelette. We began with an order of the spicy tuna crispy rice and glazed shrimp. Both were excellent, and the glazed shrimp had an Umami rather than sweet flavor like I initially anticipated. We then enjoyed a serving of the black cod skewer and a Wagyu skewer. The only challenge with eating these was that they were so tender they kept falling off the skewer. 10 out of 10 for both! Every single piece of Nigiri and each hand roll was better than the next. I don't think I could choose a favorite, but if I have to, I thoroughly enjoyed the Toro Nigiri and the yellowtail handroll for their simplicity that let the quality of the fish shine. The service was great, with food, coming out at inappropriate pace and staff checking on you at an appropriate pace as well. Been wanting to try this place since it opened and we finally got the chance today. Everything from the ambiance, to the employees, chefs and food was amazing. Everything we tried was followed by "oh my god, that was my favorite one" because each thing we ordered was better than the other. I love hand rolls in general because you don't have to commit to an entire cut roll and can try a few things. The prices were reasonable and the food was fresh. Very cute cozy sushi bar in Glendale. When you walk in there are no actual tables. It's all bar seating on stools. Ambience was great lively good music everyone enjoying their dinner. The entire place was a U-shaped bar style so I wouldn't say it's kid friendly. No table seating at all. You can see the sushi chefs make it fresh to order. I ordered takeout and it came in a nice sturdy bag. The wait was supposed to be around 10-15 minutes for my 4 hand rolls but it felt longer. All the rolls I got were all delicious! Definitely lives up to its hype! I'm not sure why I thought they were going to be overpriced at over $20 a hand roll but maybe that was just 1 specialty hand roll but the ones I got ranged from $10-15? I ordered Negitoro, SOS, Araz, and spicy scallop. They all tasted like heaven! The sauces were tasty and it wasn't too saucy or messy and I loved the size they cut the pieces of fish instead of just turning them into mush. The opening of the roll was plastic like those Japanese ones to preserve the freshness but it was hard for us to take out probably since we're inexperienced. Oh wow I just picked up another order from The Seaweed Sushi...Although I wish I was greeted instead of ignored when I picked up my order... but whatever. I finally got to try the sashimi octopus..... Whooo weeee!! It did not disappoint. Fresh and delicious with a believe was a spicy ponzu. I am a wuss when it comes to spicy but it was so tasty I could not stop eating it. I wish I would have ordered 2!! (But I am not that rich) I got my regular albacore sushi and sample trio along with an order of eel. I also tired the miso cod sushi and it was very tasty. Loving the buy one get one on certain days. Not only do they nail the hand rolls here, but the rest of the menu is just as impressive. I ordered the Blue Crab, Yellowtail, and SOS hand roll (with salmon)--all incredibly fresh, and I love that the seaweed stays nice and crisp. Just a heads-up: the Blue Crab roll has mayo, so it's best to eat that one right away before the seaweed softens. My husband went with the Truffle Lobster Roll, Negitoro Roll, and Hokkaido Scallop sushi--everything was super fresh and flavorful. We also shared a few appetizers, including the mushroom miso soup, mushroom medley, brussels sprouts, and chicken skewers. Yes, we came hungry! Since seating is all at the bar, I really appreciated that the food came out one item at a time, perfectly paced. I do wish they had a hook for bags, but we came during off hours so it wasn't crowded, I just set my purse on the seat next to me. There's an 18% service charge automatically added for dine-in, similar to Kazu Nori, and tipping on top of that isn't required. I really like the interior of this sushi bar, it's full of vibes with a mecha-fish along a wall and nice art all around. The U shape bar centers the establishment & goes with the food presentation here is really nicely. Service is really nice, but a bit slow. Not the most attentive but kind of goes along with the chill vibes. I think the food in general is very flavorful in one way or another like the spoons had a lot of ponzu, or the tuna tartare is quite spicy, but kind of missing something to make it really 5 star worthy. AVOID AT ALL COST. Truly one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences I've ever had, and the aftermath made it even worse. After an unreasonably long wait to receive my check, I was forced to rush out to avoid a parking ticket and in doing so, left behind a $45 to-go order I had already paid for. When I called back, a server who had witnessed the entire situation answered, acknowledged what happened, and assured me it would be no problem to remake my order at no charge. I was relieved and grateful. That relief was short-lived. Twenty minutes later, ONCE I WAS ALREADY DRIVING BACK, she called back to inform me that her manager had overruled the offer and not only was I now expected to pay full price again, but I was also supposed to drive back 30 minutes in 90-degree heat to pick it up. When I understandably pushed back, the manager was irritated rather than apologetic. This whole cost me $45. Your management's decision to reverse a goodwill gesture and then response cost you a customer permanently. I'd strongly encourage anyone considering dining here to go elsewhere. read more

Our friend group each ordered about 3-4 hand rolls each person, shareable starters, and nigiris. I ordered the seared scallop handroll, blue crab handroll, Lena handroll, fried brussel sprouts, and glazed crispy shrimp. BLUE CRAB HANDROLL - My favorite hands down. It was not fishy at all and there was a lot of crab meat. Blue crab are usually hit or miss as some are too fish but this tasted fresh and was filled. SEARED SCALLOP HANDROLL - This was okay. It was recommended by my friend who had been here before but was mediocre to me and nothing special. There were 3 pieces of seared scallop but in terms of flavor did not wow me. LENA HANDROLL - I wanted a salmon handroll but this was just okay. It was too lemony for my liking. Just get a regular salmon handroll. FRIED BRUSSEL SPROUTS - I love fried Brussels sprouts and these were good. It had cauliflower as well which added a different vegetable and texture. I think it was also too lemony but still good. They are heavy handed with lemon. CRISPY GLAZED SHRIMP - this was also a hit! A good shareable dish Almost similar to walnut shrimp in my opinion with the mayo and slightly crisped shrimp. Overall, it's good as the hand rolls were a good size. Parking is only metered street parking which is usually hard to find spot on the weekends or a parking garage a block or so away. read more

Excellent evening spent at this establishment. My brother's birthday could not have been spent in a better place. Seaweed always seem to have the freshest fish and the rolls were just outstanding. The spicy tuna hand roll, albacore hand roll with crispy onions and the spicy lobster roll, were especially delicious. This spot also uses the freshest seaweed paper that's crispy every time you take a bite of the hand roll. Just FRESHHHHH! In addition to the rolls, we tried a very tasty steak appetizer. They brought it sizzling on cast iron grill and it was continuing to grill right in front of us. Each bite of steak was better than the last. All of this was thanks to our sushi chef and our waiter Mark, who was nothing short of amazing. Mark was very attentive, kind and knew exactly what dishes to recommend to us.
