Lets just say that I moved here within the last month and with in the first 24 hours I was in search of the best sushi around. I tired multiple places with in a 20 mile radius. The day I tired IKKO, I also saw there was a bartending position open. I figured I would see how the food was then decide. I took the food over to a friends house and we both devoured the food. I told her I was going to go back and apply for the bartending position which I did. I have been working for Ikko for about a month now and I couldn't be happier! Everyone who works here is amazing. Tried Ikko for the first time last night, loved everything about it. The restaurant itself is modern and elegant. The quick service was great. I had a couple drinks which couldn't have been better, a scorpion bowl with the flame lit! And a raging bull, very delicious and unique. The food, so great! My husband had the steak and shrimp he couldn't have said anything bad. Steak was cooked perfectly and the shrimp had great flavor. I had a shrimp tempura roll. I am very picky with sushi even if it is tempura, it was fabulous from taste to presentation. I do wish they had a spicy shrimp tempura! But I can not complain. Coconut shrimp as an app I could have had 10 more! Very good.Highly recommend! read more

Ikko is a great Japanese restaurant. We did the Hibachi / Teppan style dining where you sit around a large flat grill on which a chef comes and prepares your dinner right in front of you along with showing off some tricks. They have solid cocktails here and many specials throughout the week. The Hibachi options are wide with chicken, scallops, shrimp, steak, lobster, and filet mignon available as well as various combinations of these and come with either fried rice or noodles, vegetables, salad, and miso soup. The soup and salad were good, but not exceptional. Fried rice was great as it was prepared right before us and served immediately. I had the chicken and filet mignon combination and both came out nice a juicy and flavorful from the sauces they were cooked in. Our chef was not the most upbeat, though. Other Hibachi chefs at places I've been to before were much more upbeat and showed off more tricks. read more

Went here for dinner. Food was decent, but my five stars goes to Mike, our chef. My parents wanted to go to a hibachi place for food but they have a breadstick's sense of humor. Mike was able to read the situation and skip most of the interactive stuff, keeping it simple and pleasant, and serving us our food promptly. read more

Only complaint I really have is that our waitress Jess really didn't allow the diners much space; hovering around and swooping in the moment an empty plate appeared. We had sushi for two and the quality of the fish was not appetizing, the shrimp seemed old and rubbery, the rolls appeared to be just thrown together. The service was lacking even though there were only a few other customers. Most disappointing, they were hosting a fundraiser and would not contribute a portion of our bill because it was take out. Meh. I really wasn't impressed at all! Which is too bad, because friends and family rave about Ikko. I went with a couple friends who were in town visiting briefly and we settled on Ikko, none of us had been before. We were seated in the dining area (non-Hibachi) and ordered drinks. The place was totally empty, so we were surprised the service sucked as much as it did. Drinks took forever and when they finally arrived, my dairy free friend (who told our waitress she was dairy free) had whipped cream on top of her daiquiri. She politely said she would need another drink because, again, she is allergic to dairy. The waitress huffed and said, "I'll just take it off". Uhhh no, dairy ALLERGY ma'am. I chime in and say she needs a new drink, please. Huffy waitress returns with a whipped cream-less daiquiri, so yay... time to order food. I got a fried tofu dish and everyone else ordered some pretty easy dishes - still took 45 mins to get our food, but ok. The fried tofu was literally offensive. Tasted gross and wiggled when I tried to stick a fork in it. FRIED tofu does not jiggle like that or have a semi-liquid form. Just nasty. I ate my friend's side salad and said nope to the icky tofu. The waitress never checked on us, refilled our drinks/water, nothing. We finally flagged her down to get the check and we couldn't wait to leave. All set. read more

Went today for lunch with my family. Informed the server of my gluten allergy and ordered sushi while my family had hibachi. I asked about the miso soup since that sometimes gas gluten in it and was told that "it should be ok" and was informed by the server that they had gluten free soy sauce which she never brought over. I had my own my own, so that was fine. Later on in the meal the waitress came by to refill my husband's water and I guess she thought it was a good idea to give him mine since I hadn't had had a chance to drink any of it. Oh, and I somehow ate gluten. I'm not sure that I would give this restaurant a second chance even if I wasn't a celiac. read more

I've recently moved to the Dover area & was craving hibachi so I checked out the reviews on yelp and decided to go. I was NOT disappointed. Everything was great. We had sushi for an appetizer & chicken hibachi for dinner. It has to be one of the best hibachi places I've been to. From the second I walked in I was in love with how it's decorated. The bathroom sinks were so unique & everything is clean. Our waitress was adorable & very helpful for my first time trying sushi. I'll be back for sure! read more

My family and I went on a Tuesday evening the water taste awful , then the iced tea was gross flavored bc they use tap water. The sushi was not tasty either. Then the chef couldn't understand what we was saying . He couldn't cook with any flavor either. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone ! I know good jap food and this place was awful. Took the family here for the first time this past weekend, it was not just great food but the kids stayed entertained the whole time. Usually it is tough to keep their attention and interest at restaurants but this was like a show at the same time. Everything tasted excellent and was cooked right in front of us on the hibachi. Both experiences I've had with this restaurant were horrible. My first dine-in experience took 20 minutes to get my drink which tasted disgusting, food was not properly cooked ($20 medium rare steak was well done and flavorless), waitstaff poorly trained, and food was really overpriced. I Decided to give it another try, however my wife wasn't feeling well and having a 6-month old, we decided to call for takeout only to be rudely told that they aren't doing takeout on a Saturday night followed by a slammed phone. With the credit card machine not working most of the time (cash only) and some of the rudest front of house staff I've ever dealt with, I won't be back. read more

Great food, but it turns out the owner/manager (not sure which) is a jerk! I initially ordered a salad as an appetizer because I wasn't sure what I wanted for my entree. I ended up deciding on terriyaki, but it turns out that came with a salad. Obviously, I didn't want another salad so the bartender said she would see what she could do to back that out of the bill even if it is just a couple bucks. Her boss gave an adamant no and, being very taken back, I asked to speak to her boss directly. When I addressed to him, he was completely tone deaf and basically acted like I was trying to "free load a salad". It was totally not the money that I cared about, but the principal of accommodating a customer in some small way for an obvious mistake. Long story short, he gained a couple bucks for the night but lost a repeat customer. Very lame and not how you handle a good customer at all. He just didn't get it. read more

I had lunch here today....a lunch box with chicken teriyaki, shumai, and shrimp tempura,, soup, salad and rice. It was delicious! I will definitely come here again. It seemed pretty busy on a Friday afternoon, so it looks like they are doing a good business. I actually preferred Ikko to Shio in Portsmouth. The chicken teriyaki at Ikko was more flavorful. Visited this evening. We were greeted and seated immediately. Pin was our servers name. He was outstanding. We had the Philly roll, spicy tuna roll with cream cheese, chicken maki roll, Rock Shrimp appetizer, and the Lady Finger Roll. Very good! Tried this place tonight for the first time! Excellent! If you go, be sure to get a hibachi meal at least once, The food is fantastic and the entertainment by the hibachi chef is something to behold. I had the hibachi shrimp. ($21) It comes with a small bowl of Japanese onion soup, a very small salad, fired rice. veggies and the shrimp of course. The fried rice, veggies and shrimp are cooked in front of you at the hibachi table. There must have been over 15 shrimp! Everyone gets a free sample of about 5 shrimp regardless of which meal they order. Portions are large. The steak and scallops are also very good from what another customer told me. The Scorpion Bowl for 2 is a sneaky thing. It has five liquors and a lot of fruit and fruit juice. It tastes rather fruity, mild and smooth. But it hits you after a while and you realize there was a lot of booze in that thing. The food, the entertainment from the chef all add up to a great dinner experience. By the way, the yellow sauce, which looks like hot mustard is not hot mustard. Not sure what it is, but it's very good on anything! read more

5 of us went in opening weekend and we will give them another month or two to work out the kinks, or to see if they're even still open. The initial hibachi wait was an hour and 45 minutes, so we opted for regular restaurant seating, which we were told was 30 minutes. We waited at the bar and let the entertainment begin. A gentleman came from his table to the bar to get drinks because he hadn't seen his waitress in awhile. The older lady at the bar was the only one who had half of a clue of how to be a bartender. One girl dropped at least 4 glasses while she was hanging out back there. Then the older lady proceeded to yell at everyone else behind the bar because they were in her way. We watched a group of people who were there when we got there get seated at a hibachi table after about an hour. A half hour after that, they still hadn't even seen a waitress. Mind you this whole time there were several empty tables in the dining room. At this point (1 hour after our supposed half hour wait) we decided to go to Oriental Delight in downtown Dover and sat down right away and had our food within 10 minutes. read more

Ordered from this restaurant for the first time. We decided to sit at the bar because we had about an hour before we had to be someplace on a Sunday we ordered the calamari which came out to be about seven dollars and we wanted to get the vegetable tempura and the red snapper teriyaki and one or two other items on the lunch menu we came in at about 1 PM but we were told that we cannot order from the lunch menu so we had to figure out what we were supposed to order from the dinner menu however they said we could get the fried rice which was still on the lunch menu which I didn't see on the dinner menu. When we got the order the calamar was pitiful it was about seven rings they look like onion rings. It was definitely not enough for someone to share as an appetizer I do admit the tempura Was plentiful and very good the fried rice was a letdown the manager kept hassling people to drink more sake and I found it a little bit of a put off the location looks nice and it's well decorated but the food needs a lot of work that hibachi look like it was the same as sakio of Japan in the mall. I saw a lot of people sitting around the grills with no chef because it looks like there were only one or two chefs at one time and when we ordered the Ramen a soda the one with the crystal ball in the bottle they actually gave us a glass to pour in which defeats the purpose of the soda.
