Soup and salad lunch special. $16.95. Soup was called Corn Chowder
    Jo Nell R.

Came for lunch on a Wednesday, it seemed fairly busy. The five of us stood for several minutes with no one at the host stand or in the bar. An older gentleman came from the dining room, greeted us and took us to a table. Waitress was pleasant and attentive. It was all of our first time dining in the restaurant with all but myself from out of town. I was excited when corn chowder with crispy prosciutto was given for the soup, so I ordered that with a side salad and the waitress indicated she would give me the soup and salad lunch special. I was good with that. No cheese on the salad, please. Bread and drinks brought for the table. Bread was great, warm with flaked salt on the crust. Meals came out in a timely fashion. I was a little surprised by the portion I received, the salad was quite small and the small crock of soup was only about 3/4 full. Salad was good there just wasn't enough of it, correctly came to the table without cheese. The corn chowder was a big disappointment, aside from the size, I expected a thick, creamy chowder and what I received was thin and soupy. It also had cheese layered on the top that even though I was able to spoon it off, the whole thing tasted like cheese, had I known it was made with cheese, I would have gone with something different. The space is beautiful, and the server was pleasant

Tried this out for Christmas Eve with the family, was one of the few places available to seat a party of nine, solid choice. Located in strip mall, so quite a surprise overall with the classy vibe...the patio appears to be a cool place when warm. Overall great vibe, lively, superb hostess and servers. Sat in what felt like a semi-private area, off to the side...very nice with a large party. Excellent wine list...a ton of variety and not crazy priced for bottles of Prisoner, Caymus or Silver Oak you find at other places. The bread is fabulous...hot out of the oven, both crunchy and soft. Nice touch with the olive oil & balsamic vinegar on the table. The big downside was they were in-between cocktail menu's, so had to order what you might remember, versus some crafty concoction I've grown to love when eating out. Had the meatball app, wifey tried the chef special (sea bass), others had the lamb and I decided on the filet myself. All were solid...definitely 4 star worthy, but not quite 5 star. My wife asked "would you come back?" I think I would, I would like to try some of other menu options and I hope the cocktail menu will be available the next time around. Thanks for a great Xmas Eve Dinner Il Bel Lago!!

My friend and I decided to have a girls night here because both of us love a good home cooked style Italian food. We were the only young people over there and it's mostly Italian Nonnas eating there. Did we have an issue with that? Absolutely not. Nonnas are the best. We made reservations in advance. The service was excellent! For appetizers, we got the lobster ravioli with the cream sauce. The cream was rich, savory, and had a nice tart taste to it in the end. I got the veal chop, whereas my friend got the chicken for the entree. Both were delicious. We got the "Birthday Tiramisu" - people who went there will get it ;) A solid 4/5. Good food! Good time!

Came here this year for my 36th birthday. When we arrived, we were greeted immediately and the man at the host stand said "oh we're celebrating a birthday." I reply. "Yep, it's my birthday." We were seated directly behind the hostess stand. Our server came over and she was super pleasant and helpful. She made great recommendations and was awesome the entire night. We started with the appetizer meatball. It was pretty big definitely enough to share with another person or two. It was also really delicious and authentic. I ended up ordering the smoked salmon pasta, and my husband got chicken with a side of potatoes. My pasta was good. Flavorful and the sauce was really rich, which I didn't mind. Throughout the night, there would be service staff coming to take off decorative plates, replace and replenish drinks, etc. Before our food came, the same service staff came over to take away our unfinished meatball. We tried to tell her that we wanted to keep it, but there was a language barrier. She ended up taking the rest of the meatball, and we'd hoped she understood and wrapped it up for us. Come to find out she threw it away. We brought it to our servers attention and she was apologetic and let us know she would see what she could do. The owner came over and sat down a bag of something on our table. No apology, no interaction, Nothing. Literally sat the bag down and walked away. I open the bag and there were two tiny meatballs inside! I guess that was the replacement for half the meatball that the server threw away??? Then, I asked our server did they do anything special for birthdays and she goes "oh, it's your birthday?" I'm like "yes, I told the host that and he mentioned it when I walked in!" and she goes. "Oh, that's the owner. He didn't even tell me!" Like.... Why did the owner not feel inclined to apologize about the mishap, gave us two small meatballs AND neglect to tell the server it was my birthday? Forgetting to tell her it was my birthday could've been an honest mistake but I really don't think it was. In all, I don't think I'll be back.

Lunch special - rigatoni with Italian sausage in a vodka cream sauce - wonderful!
    Keith J.

I had an incredible lunch at Il Bella Lago in Creve Coeur Missouri. I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a long time and I was very impressed with the high-quality of the pasta dish I ordered. The pasta dish was rigatoni with Italian sausage in a vodka, cream sauce that was the special of the day for lunch. The rigatoni was filling and the spicy vodka cream sauce had to be one of the best vodka, cream sauces I've ever tried. That alone made it worth returning for. The small house salad was very good, but I don't think I will order it again since it's not cheap at nine dollars and wasn't very big but the bread and olive oil they provided went well with it and was tasty. I've dined at many St. Louis area Italian restaurants in St. Louis and this was one of the best pasta dishes I've had to date. It was pricey but I expected that and the service was excellent, and the decor was quite elegant.

This was a surprise elegant dining experience. We've been looking at this restaurant for years but never ate here. As soon as we walked in I was struck by the elegant decor. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. The menu was unique with lots of daily specials. I was particularly excited about the daily risotto. I find it very difficult to eat low gluten when eating Italian but the risotto was spectacular! I didn't feel my meal was compromised in my attempt to avoid gluten. Excellent outdoor dining complemented by a beautiful fountain. Separate bar area and a small party room that seats 18 comfortably. I was impressed by the spacious dining area. I hate feeling cramped. Lots of large tables with privacy for large groups and special events. The only criticism I have is that the booth we were seated in was in need of repair. The bench seats were torn and had been taped leavings sticky residue that stuck to me. Minor inconvenience except that it was on both sides of the booth and it stuck to my clothes. If you're going to charge $30-$50 an entree seating us in a sticky booth should have been avoided. When the maître de noticed the sticky benches we should have been put in a different booth. Despite the booth bother I would recommend. Will definitely dine again!

Not the most accommodating What I have been here a couple of times. I was here for a large dinner work event. The vegan options are very limited. I know I know, it's ilatian... dairy is a must.. I had a couple of seafood dishes and it was decent, not the best. On my dinner entree, I was suppose to have seabass with no dairy but my sides had dairy.. so I couldn't eat it... same with the appetizer platter... Environment Located in a plaza. Lots of parking spaces available. In side is nice, there is booth and also table seating. There is a bar area. Niceness of the staff Not the best especially when it comes to accommodating dietary changes. And in big groups. The water was very careless. I explicitly asked if the dish had dairy and was told no but then it comes out either cheese on top. Dollar Quite expensive but the lunch menu is decent Yes I am not a fan. Especially if avoiding dairy

I came here for a work dinner. They were extremely accommodating for our large group. They fit twenty one of us in their private room. We had one server for the entire room and he did a great job. He recommended that we do a pasta sampler. This was a great way for all of us to try their most popular pastas. The tortellini de vitello was my favorite. The meatballs were enormous. I got the filet with the spinach salad. The filet was great.

What a lovely experience! I came here to celebrate with my boyfriend, and everything--from the friendly servers to the cozy atmosphere to the delicious food--brought back such wonderful nostalgia for classic American Italian restaurants. We especially loved the fresh bread at the beginning, and our server was so kind to split our entrées for us. I can't wait to come back!

Came for HH last night, and ended up evolving into casual dinner at the bar! Their happy hour is fantastic and goes until 7, great for those who can't typically get off work before 5. You sit in the bar area to take advantage. Last night was especially busy and short staffed, but our waitress was phenomenal despite running around like crazy and also making all the drinks. We were so impressed! She still managed to make recommendations, whip out drinks and refresh our glasses, and squeeze wayyy too many happy hour apps and a giant charcuterie board onto our tiny table. The board was beautiful, the mini crab cakes were delish and made of quality lump crab meat, and the meatballs were perfect. We want to come back to try more, but the portions were so generous we had no more room in our bellies (or on the table). I'll also have to come back for the full menu, so many tasty looking options.

We just tried this spot for the first time and really enjoyed it! The food was delicious, we ordered Lobster Ravioli, the house salad, cheese ravioli, surf and turf, and chocolate cake. It is definitely on the expensive side. The service was slow, especially with the restaurant being half empty.

I was taught by brother that you should book your first dinner reservation as after flying all day, one is tired, and not able to make good decisions...hence eating at a TGI Fridays in New Orleans on our first night. I have heard about that since. Charlie's had the perfect vibe going as it has a great reputation. Wendy was also simply amazing and shared may stories of St Louis and was just a tremendous server. The only thing that tricked us was the Toasted Ravioli. It has meat in it, and my wife is vegetarian. The Arancini was terrific and the table bread was also quite tasty. My wife had the Manicotti and I had the Chicken Lemonata. So great. The bottle of the house Gitto's Red was the perfect wine as well. The vibe inside was warm, cozy, and sophisticated. There is also a small patio area that seemed to have a much different vibe. We were seated in a busy area of the restaurant, so there was frequent traffic passing by our table, which took away from the vibe a bit. It didn't bother us but I can see how it could bother others. Everyone we interacted with from the hostess to our waiter Brian and the other servers passing by our table, was friendly and welcoming. The manager even stopped to chat with us while we waited for our Uber. Now for the food, we started with the toasted ravioli we had heard so much about and it was good. For the main dish, we went with the lobster spaghetti which was one of the day's specials. The portion size was generous making it the perfect dish to share with my son. The dish was filled with lobster, shrimp, and other seafood, all tossed in a rich buttery sauce. We both really enjoyed it. Even though we were full from dinner, we didn't want to leave without trying dessert so we took a slice of carrot cake back to the hotel. It made a great late night snack. The cake was moist and the cream cheese icing was delicious. Overall, this is a nice spot for an Italian dinner.

Being from the Bay Area in California, I had never heard of toasted ravioli so I added it to my itinerary. I found this place on Yelp and saw that Guy Fieri (another Bay Area native) had featured it on his show so I settled on Anthonino's. I walked over from the Botanical Garden on a Friday afternoon around 12pm so that I could get a better feel of the streets, locals, surrounding shops, and the Hill neighborhood. The area was very calm, clean, safe and had a sense of pride. I enjoyed the sights and sounds throughout the streets and by the time I arrived at the front door, I was super excited to eat. I was seated quickly at the bar and given a menu and water. The bar staff were friendly and pleasant to talk to and also took my order within a few minutes. The restaurant quickly filled up behind me and it was a lively environment. I really appreciated that the TVs had sports shows on (huge sports fan and was in town to visit Busch Stadium) so it gives you something to look at. I ordered the toasted ravioli and a tiramisu. As a solo traveler, I have to limit how much I can order so this was the perfect amount for me. The food was amazing and I wished that I could have tried more plates. The ravioli had great flavors and texture and the tiramisu was so creamy and fresh. I would definitely return if the opportunity presented itself. The customer service from all staff members was amazing! Thank you for this experience :)

I never actually saw the inside of the restaurant because one member of our party needed handicap accessibility, and unfortunately the entrance only had steps with no alternate accessible entry available. Thankfully, it was a beautiful evening and we were able to dine comfortably at one of the outdoor tables. Our server was kind, attentive, and very helpful throughout the meal. We started by sharing a few appetizers including the toasted ravioli, which St. Louis is famous for, along with calamari. Both were enjoyable and a great way to begin the meal. The meals came with bread, butter, and a bottle of seasoned oil for dipping, which was a nice touch. My entrée included a salad with a sweet Italian dressing that I absolutely loved -- honestly, I would have been perfectly happy eating a larger portion of just the salad. For my main course, I chose the veal parmigiana. The flavor was good, although the veal itself was slightly tough, and the pasta side came with shells rather than traditional spaghetti. To finish the evening, we shared tiramisu and a cannoli for dessert. Both were enjoyable, but the cannoli definitely won the flavor battle for our table. Overall, despite the accessibility concern, we enjoyed the experience, the service, and many parts of the meal.

One of our traditions is trying a different Italian restaurant each visit based on reviews and recommendations from friends. This time, our party of five chose Mama's, and for most of us it was our first visit. I got a reservation weeks in advance and was clear about what we were celebrating. Starting with the positives, our server was friendly and attentive throughout the evening, and the food was good. Every entree at our table was enjoyable, and nobody left disappointed with their meal. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience fell short of our expectations because of the atmosphere. We were celebrating a significant occasion and were seated in the basement dining area. The space felt very sterile, with white walls, white floors, and a white ceiling. It lacked the warmth, charm, and character that many of us associate with dining on The Hill. The room was also packed with large parties, making it quite loud. Rather than feeling like a special night out, the atmosphere reminded me more of a banquet hall or VFW gathering than an Italian restaurant known for celebrations and family traditions. For me, great dining is about more than just the food. While the meal itself was good, ambiance, setting, and overall experience matter too, especially when celebrating something important. Based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend Mama's for a special occasion, and I don't see myself returning. Good food and friendly service can only carry an experience so far when the atmosphere doesn't match the occasion.
