My first time here. Came for a late Valentine dinner with hubby. One of his customers recommended. The service was astonishing. Like super friendly and very respectful toward our time. We reserved at 8 but restaurant technically closes as 9. But we didn't feel rushed whatsoever. We ordered our food which were delicious and had a very interesting taste to each. I had the chance to try something new that I don't usually see in other Italian restaurant. The Tagliatelle Was interesting and unique. My husband ordered it and it was worth trying. We ordered 2 appetizers, the cheese/meat board cuz we ordered a bottle of wine and what's a better combo! We added the seafood Mista, sauted with side sauce. Great experience on a Friday night for dinner. Our server was Dale, and he was excellent. He described the menu and the specials. I tried the basil limencello martini. It was tasty but more sour than expected. We had the meatballs as our appetizer, and it was pretty flavorful. For my entree, I got the surf and turf. It was delicious. The white wine sauce was delicious. For dessert, we split the cheesecake, and it was awesome. They only have single stall bathrooms, and it's near their service area. read more

I had 2 drinks, the hillside sour and apple spritz. Not bad, a little heavy on the alcohol. Some times, that's good, right? We ordered the meatball appetizer. It was 2 large meatballs and 3 slices of bread. Odd 3 slices and not 2 or 4? Not sure why all the negavity about the lasagna. I thought it was pretty good. It was more sausage than regular meat, so it had a little spice to it. Extremely filling. Lastly, order cheesecake for dessert. Good too. Our waiter Dale was on the ball. Extremely polite and helpful. The servers came around often to fill our water glasses. It got crowded later, so we timed it perfect by coming early. read more

This is a quaint little spot in downtown Hinsdale with a unique balcony overlooking the main dining area. The bar looks impressive but unfortunately the cocktail list didn't impress. They had a lot of fruity & light cocktails but lacked even one or two of the more hearty bourbon/whiskey choices. The service was excellent and our burrata appetizer plate was scrumptious - the perfect size where you felt satisfied but not stuffed. My mushroom truffle pizza was forgettable. It lacked flavor and had very few thinly sliced mushrooms. My husband's orchiette was good but nothing special. read more

After "Hunkering-In (again)" for three days, this time due to wildfires in Canada sending Chicago some of the dirtiest, smokiest air quality on earth, we got invited to unhunker [sic] with some friends in Hinsdale at the lovely Il Poggiolo Restaurant; we did so under the condition we got a table inside. Our table was fine and Il Poggiolo is this vast / beautiful restaurant with all the Italian standards. We had: * A Burrata Salad - that was very good * Pollo Parmigiana - that I enjoyed * Orecchiette Pasta - with sausage and broccoli * Caesar Salad - that was excellent * A Chopped Salad - that was big enough to feed two people * Tiramisu - great way to end this meal * I had a Roth Blend "Red" that went perfect with my dinner Us four all had a good meal and a very nice time at Il Poggiolo. The Octopus is something I love trying and this one was different due to it being panfried and I absolutely loved it. The Burrata is always a classic, and carpaccio had a ton of bright flavors making it really easy to eat. The Cesar salad had anchovy dressing as it added some nice saltiness to the salad. The bucatini carbonara was simple in preparation, but tasted fresh and was al dente, and the pancetta added a slightly deeper flavor to the pasta. We tried their truffle mushroom special that was creamy and very aromatic from the truffle. This pasta was a little bit heaver, and the last pasta we tried was the paccheri in a well balanced vodka sauce. It was my first time trying Il Poggiolo and I highly suggest making a reservation if planning to dine here for dinner, especially on the weekends. We were seated on the second floor dining area and our server was pleasant and efficient. These were the dishes that I have tried from my visit: BARBABIETOLE- fresh and great but this salad could have been a little bigger in portion size BURRATTA W/ PROSCIUTTO- delicious PARMIGIANA DI MELANZANE- it was ok SALSICCIA AL GRINGLIA- tasty RISOTTO- this dish was just ok. I wasn't a fan of the consistency of the rice. Overall, the service was spot on from the start to the end of my dining experience. The place was busy, neat and had a happy vibe. We had a reservation for 4 people, upon arriving a friend's text asked for a change to 5, then a change to 6. The friendly staff reaction was yes, we can. Graceful and accommodating. The server was engaging and menu savvy. We ordered wine with a suggestion after we said it was a full bodied red with character that we were looking for. (This reviewer has mastered some of the wine jargon if not the underlying ideas). The wine was very good. I was tempted to test them with a lasagna order--but the idea of such a test is being smacked by the reviewer's realization that he does not believe there is a perfect lasagna. Anyways, the ravioli special was perfect. And when the server had asked whether we were celebrating anything in particular (another sign of the right kind of place), after responding we were celebrating life, the reviewer's week-old birthday was mentioned--the meal was topped off with a very nice sharable cake. read more

My wife and I love this restaurant in downtown Hinsdale. It's becoming a weekly thing for us. We love the ambiance, especially the ceiling light fixtures many photographs on the wall. I've had the veal picatta a few times which is superb. Thin slices of veal with spinach and fingerling potatoes. The picatta sauce is incredible. Ceasar salad is served on a ice cold salad plate and is enough to split. My wife had the sea bass which she said was outstanding. The only problem was it was served over calamari which didn't seem to fit. Our waitress gave us a side of polenta to take home with the leftovers. In the past we've had chicken marsala, bucatini carbonara, and salmon. All excellent. Oh yeah, Wednesdays is half price bottles of wine. The wait staff is excellent and very attentive. read more

My husband and I dned at il Poggiolo for dinner. It's a cutely decorated Italian restaurant. The tables are a little too close together for my liking. There's a bar on the first floor, dining tables and the second floor has an additional dining area. My husband and I shared the grilled calamari as a starter. It was fresh and tasted good, not rubbery, but I like more of a char and I was missing tentacles. My favorite part! My husband had the cavatelli for his entree, and the marinara was decent and the cavatelli was fresh. I had the scallops, which were perfectly seared. Both good choices. The food here is very good, the attention from the servers could be better, as well as the close proximity of the tables. I would recommend I'll Poggiolo. read more

First time visit. The food was excellent. The bruschetta was amazing. The entree's were excellent. Also, the Caprese sandwich was very good. Jerry Kleiner who owns some of my favorite spots in Chicago (Carivale, Gioco, Marche, etc) has done it again with his latest venture- this time out in the "Burbs". Yay! And it's actually in my town of Hinsdale. Il Poggiolo (the balcony in Italian) opened about 8 days ago in what used to be a silent theater in Hinsdale back at the turn of the century. Characteristic Kleiner touches are evident- the huge oversized red chandeliers, the metal and leather chairs, the bar reminiscent of Room 21 and Park 52, the eclectic decor of Marche. And scattered around the walls are pictures of Kleiner's various trips around the world (or so says the manager). Hinsdaleans are obviously in need of a good restaurant as this place was packed on a Monday night. We got there around 5:30 to enjoy a drink at the bar before our 6pm reservation. We chatted with the bartender, perused the specialty cocktail list and basically checked the place out. We were seated right on time and as per our usual- ordered a variety of things to split and taste being that it was a new place. For our appetizers- we went with the carpaccio and the meat antipasti plate. Both were good but the meat antipasti was the clear winner with three kinds of meat, figs, grapes and 3 kinds of cheese. Finally on to the entrees. We had the sea bass (served with skin and our least favorite as it was dry) the lamb chop special (delicious, tender, done perfectly) and the pasta with bolognese sauce (absolutely delicious!) We also ordered the risotto special of the day which came with figs and Gorgonzola cheese. It was just okay. The chef, Jim Kilberg, who recently was the chef at the now closed Via Ventuno creates some wonderful dishes. I was a fan of his there and now that he is just a couple a blocks away makes me a happy camper. The biggest issue Il Poggiolo has right now is service. They are still finding their way. The wrong appetizer came to our table the first time. There was a long delay in getting the right one (not sure if the server entered the wrong one or what). Three times people came to our table with food that was not intended for our table and had no idea where to take it. Flatware was removed and not replaced so we spent quite a lot of time just looking at the food on our table as we had nothing to eat it with. And finally- water and wine were cleared before we were ready to leave. All signs of a new place with some settling in time needed from it's staff. But for me, the shining moments of service in the evening came from a young man named Austin. I have no idea what role he plays at this place but twice he noticed something that was wrong and ran to rectify it long before we had to ask. Nicely done. And because of him- the other service glitches were remarked on and forgotten. Hinsdale needs a place like Il Poggiolo. Good food served in a classy ambiance right in the neighborhood. Give the service a couple of weeks to catch up and I think we've got a winner. You can almost hear the old silent movie stars who once graced this place clapping their hands and saying "Bravo"! read more

This was my second visit and what a difference! Saturday night, mildly busy, and our server, Paul, was great. He was spot on for delivering our drinks, checking on us after being served. The Burrata appetizer was very good and a generous appetizer, probably a taste for 4 people? My daughter and I shared and she loved it! We also ordered the calamari fritti, which I took home because it was a generous portion. Flavorful and perfectly cooked. We order the Branzino (which was Chilean sea bass.) The fish had a nice crust on the skin and a flavorful clear fish broth. The asparagus and fingerling potatoes completed the dish. All of our food was delivered nice and hot, too. We ordered the pistachio mousse and were actually too full to finish! All in all, this downtown Hinsdale restaurant had nice, family ambience, and noise level was pretty calm. Il Poggliolo is a restaurant with hearty food but heavy portions. While the food is solid and the drinks are good, I wish they had options for lighter fare. Definitely on the pricey side. I'm giving 2 stars because sitting outside was very nice. Even though all tables were full other servers attended to them and were very pleasant. We hardly saw ours. He came to the table asked us if we wanted bread and if we knew what we wanted to drink, we were there for 2 min. We said bring the bread and we will give him our drink orders then. I picked up the menu and first thing says bread basket $10, when he came with it I asked if that was correct, he said yes, I said no thank you. I had ice tea and hubby a beer. We were celebrating my birthday and when my husband made the reservation I guess he told them. When we checked in they said happy birthday and said they'll bring us a dessert. We really didn't care about that. I had a chopped salad that was fine, my husband had the pork chop polenta dinner. You would have needed a saw to cut the chop it was so over cooked but we never saw the waiter to say anything. I asked for a refill of iced tea to every bus boy that passed. It came with the check, $7.00. No one offered us a dessert menu even though every other table was being offered one. We just got a check. The only good thing was the salad, we shared it. When the check was dropped off he offered to wrap my husbands full meal, he said it was over cooked but he would take a properly cooked one to go. The waiter said he should have told him earlier. He said you dropped off food and didn't see you since the check came. The waiter laughed and took our credit card. Live and learn, Il Mio in Clarendon Hills for the win!!! This place, as well as Cine, have gone through some staffing changes. I've been here many times and it's usually pretty good. I always sit at the bar so I cannot comment on all of the complaints about service. Generally speaking, the appetizers are above average but the entrees are just average. Nothing has been bad, but it's standard Italian. A few pastas are made in house. They do have a good Caesar salad. I feel that most of the time we went in because we enjoyed the bartender, who is no longer there so that will definitely impact how often we visit going forward. But decent food, cute atmosphere if you're in the area. read more

Another excellent meal at Il Poggiolo. The buccatini is very good as is the chicken Marsala with the best green beans I ever ate & perfect mashed potatoes. The appetizer are stellar as well. The staff is attentive and friendly. Only draw back is it's a bit loud when it gets busy but if you sit upstairs it's somewhat quieter. Update.... we keep going back and it's now one of our favorites. We love the warm & friendly service. We haven't had a meal we didn't really like. Great halibut, salmon, pasta. They may have been off their game this past Monday night. service was slow to non-existent. we had to ask for bread, oil and cheese three times only to be told they were cooking the bread. The antipasto platter had very little cheese although the meats were good but nothing else was on the platter. Things started out well. A group of us was gathered near the front at a couple high boys for some pre-gaming appetizers and drinks. The appetizers were really good, but then again I rarely meet a bruschetta that I do not like. The dinner was also okay. Not a ton of menu choices but enough. My food was not to my taste, not very flavorful. My husbands food was also bland. Others at the table seemed happy, so maybe it was just us. Our server was nice and efficient. Here's where things get strange. During desserts and coffee, someone starts yelling "last call". Mind you, this is restaurant, not so much a bar. There are a few tables filled, probably 30 people in the place, so fairly populated. Shortly after, the heat is off. Completely. No heat, no oven. It gets freezing in there fast. I did not think we were there past close, rather, that someone needed to get out at close, which mean everyone had to be out the door. It was strange to say the least. Our bill for 10 was over $1,000, we weren't loud, and we weren't the only ones there, so I'm not sure what was happening, but for just okay food I am in no hurry to get back. We ate here during the summer of Covid while looking at homes in Hinsdale. After having moved to the area now, and eating at (well, more often *from*) other places, this remains one of our best meals in the burbs so far. The dishes are far more authentic (and better tasting) than nearby Crapi (yes, that was intentional). The service was professional. And, unlike many Italian places, the menu here wasn't overwhelming. The focus seemed to echo that of Italian cuisine as whole: classic, simple dishes prepared well and with care. And in that Il Poggiolo succeeded. When asked how my steak was, I made it known that it was wayyyy overcooked. Nothing was done about this, absolutely nothing. They added more spice, a little spinach and it was much better. They were very nice about the fact the dish was lacking. Good food but pricey. We ordered the meatball sliders as an appetizer. It only came with two, so we ordered a second since there were 3 of us. Also ordered the calamari, which my husband enjoyed. I had the rigatoni, which was tasty and had sausage in it. The only thing that bugged me the whole time was the constant need to clear our table by the staff. We were eating our appetizers and they came twice to try and take them away. After telling them we were still eating the first time, they left and returned 5 minutes later to take them again.
