Came in from Jersey last night and it was welL worth the trip! Great little find in Brooklyn! The food was unbelievably delicious from the calamari right down to the bomba! The chicken parmigiana was so good along with the bolognese! Best sauce I've had in a very long time! They also have a terrific jazz ensemble that plays on Thursday through Saturday. This restaurant was absolutely terrible in terms of customer service. I will tell you just how disgusting and anti-Covid friendly this place is. 1. They messed up our delivery order not once but twice. We were given completely different pizza pies than what we ordered. So we called back and the delivery man showed up with a new set of pizza pies but one pie was still incorrect; 2. The person who answered the phone at the restaurant asked for the wrong pizza pies back. Yes - he ACTUALLY asked for the pies back. But here's the kicker, he had the delivery guy give those pies (that were opened) to a group of people that were in the same rooftop bar that we were at. Those ppl had no idea that was happening; 3. The restaurant staff was very disrespectful even after messing up the order the second time around; and 4. The food was basic and tasted like cement-oven, not brick-oven. Best pizza I've had in a really long time. We got the margherita with pepperoni, sausage, olives, and mushrooms. It came out to $31 without tax or tip for the delivery guy. We needed a place to eat before going to the Stranger Things experience nearby and we were so happy we found this gem. Casual roomy place with indoor and outdoor seating serving a large menu of delicious and reasonably priced Italian food. The red sauce was excellent so everything we had with it was amazing. The Margarita pie and the eggplant Parm were outstanding. The fried calamari was very crispy and abundant. My husband loved his baked clams. Authentic Italian food served with love!!! My second time in a week, and I cannot wait to go back again. OMG Il Porto is the best! Great fresh Italian food in a delightful atmosphere. Cozy and comfortable, you feel like you are eating with family. The owner Sal greets you and makes sure you feel so welcome. Warm and so kind, after a few minutes you feel that you have known him for years. The food itself was wonderful. He makes by far the best grandma pizza I have ever had, and I have eaten all over New York and New Jersey My wife had the pasta which was cooked to perfection. The portions were generous, and everything was so delicious, my wife even had enough left over for lunch the next day. We had a marvelous evening as always. They have Jazz music on the weekends. Okay, it's slightly ridiculous that I am updating my review the next day, but honestly I don't think my rap did this place justice. Today I had another fresh mozzarella slice, and a grandma slice. HOT DAMN. The grandma's crust and top was oily, garlicy, with just the right amount of fresh mozzarella and zippy sauce. I could not get enough. The fresh mozzarella slice, while excellent, couldn't stand up to its quadrilateral counterpart. There was way too much mozzarella. One of the best things about these slices is the crust. It's not so thin and crispy that it hurts, or tastes charred. It's a crust, and it tastes like it. They must use really good dough because I savored every little bit. The triangular slice is totally foldable, no spillage or limpness detected. I am SO happy that I decided to try these varieties, because before I thought Il Porto was just another corner pizza joint masquerading as a classy establishment. read more

Dining in at Il Porto is a bad idea. This is strictly a review of the on-site restaurant. My best friend and I are fans of the Spinaci salad. We've ordered it dozens of times for delivery over the past few years. Naturally, when we arrived to eat in house for only the second time in these few years, we ordered the same salad. But this time, we felt sassy. So we asked the waitress if we could add steak to said salad. She said it would be the same price, no problem. That seemed weird, but we rolled with it because she seemed generally bored by our existence and we were starving. What actually arrived was two 16oz steaks, cooked beyond saving. We had ordered the steak to top our salads medium rare, we instead received very well done steaks, no Spinachi salad. We told the waitress, and she half apologized but did not seem to want to take our steaks back. And, again, we were starving: so we ate them. Then the check arrived. It was exorbitant. The manager/owner(?), a man who had been walking outside to yell into his phone right next to the seating area repeatedly throughout the course of our dinner, decided to explain to us exactly why it was our fault that the bored ESL waitress had ruined our order, then told us that he'd only charge us for one of the steaks (he actually charged us for one and a half steaks, but apparently assumed we couldn't do basic math). The whole thing was demeaning and sketchy, and we watched him yell at the waitress through the doors while waiting for our revised check. We didn't argue a second time, because the experience had been icky enough and we just wanted to get the hell out of there. TL;DR: continue to order delivery from Il Porto, sure. But don't go in for dinner. Ever. (Actually, Il Porto, can I recommend that you just totally shut down your dine-in restaurant for good? Because you're bad at it. Really, really bad.) read more

Have to agree with Ben here, I've been ordering for awhile via seamless and had my first ever delivery issue last night. Ordered a Caesar and a Washington pizza last night (my usual) and asked for an extra side of sauce for each. When the delivery got here, he asked me for $3 cash before he would give me my food. What? So on top of a $16 pizza, an $8 salad, a $2 delivery fee, and a $6 tip you need $3 for sauce? Granted, I have no issue ever paying for extras but typically a restaurant will call first to let you know about an additional charge. When I informed the delivery guy about not having received a call, he suggested maybe it went to voicemail. Again - what? Anyway, having ordered through seamless I obviously had $0 cash on me so I suggested he have the restaurant call Seamless and add the $3 on to my already $35 bill and he left in a huff. I promptly received a $3.27 upcharge from seamless. In the end it isn't about having to pay for an addition, it's about the custom service. Unfortunately, the quality of the pizza has been going downhill recently (hence why I knew I needed extra sauces in the first place, plus chewy cuts of chicken scattered haphazardly) and this helped me decide once and for all about how I feel about ordering again. This is my favorite pizza place. I've only ever gotten delivery from here, so I can't say I've ever eaten a super fresh, flaming hot, straight from the oven into my piehole pie, but this pizza is incredibly tasty. Their salads are good too, but I usually end up eating the pizza first until my stomach cries uncle. The delivery is pretty fast, and the guy on the other end of the phone is a pleasant human being. It's always a little surprising when a neighborhood spot ends up beating out NYC pizza legends like Patsy's, Grimaldi's, etc. The only other place I've tried that rivals Il Porto is Lucali. love, love, LOVE Il Porto. I only have good things to say about this cozy, family-owned restaurant. My advice is to go soon, since that area is rapidly gentrifying and developing - I presume that the ambiance of the restaurant may change as well. My spouse and I bike a ton. We bumped into this restaurant about 4 years ago, when it was the ONLY venue on that block, and it quickly became our favorite local pizza spot. But it is SO much more than that. Their salads, entrees are all top-notch. The food is FRESH, really tasty and you feel like you are eating in a family restaurant in a small town - not Brooklyn. The owner often comes to your table and chats with you and the service is always wonderful. My favorite pizza in NYC is hands-down DiFara. However, due to the 2-3 hr wait for a pie there, I only go there 4-5 times a year. When I just want a quick slice, I get a margherita slice from Not Ray's in Fort Greene. However, when I want to order pizza pies or go to a restaurant for pizza and good food - Il Porto is my favorite local spot (bonus: they deliver!). Favorites (In no particular order): 1) Margherita Pizza: Best local and easily accessible pizza in the area (i.e., no need to wait 1-3 hours); 2) Cesare (Caesar) Salad - OMG, must order. I have never had a caesar salad like this one. It comes in a dried cheese bowl. It cannot be explained - you have to see it for yourself. It is really delicious; 3) Smoked Ahi Tuna Salad/Insalata di Tonno - It is not on the online menu, but they always have it. It was a special a few years ago and anytime I ask for it - they have it. It has fennel, arugula, lemon and is unique and really special. 4) Tiramisu Martini - I order this for dessert. I don't usually like sweet drinks - this is actually not sweet, despite the name. Disclaimer: The food here is excellent, and my review is not based on it. Instead, my review is based on their delivery service. Ordered last night, around 5PM, let them know I was paying cash. Told me it would be 30-45 minutes and I'd have my food. Awesome. In reality, the delivery took closer to an hour and 15 minutes. I'm not one to complain, and despite my pizza being a touch cold, all was good. However, the delivery guy told me to sign my receipt? I told him I was paying cash and he said no, they ran a card. I have used a card with them before and while I did not like to think they kept my card on file (I don't think they do), I asked again if he was sure. He was sure. I signed for it and went upstairs to eat. Fast forward to 10:45 that night. I get a call from Il Porto. I don't answer because I am asleep. 6 calls later, I am awake and officially pissed off. They had plenty of time to catch their mistake and I have to work in the morning. Does this stop them from coming to my house at 11 and try to rectify their mistake? No. The delivery driver comes by and rings my door bell over and over again until I march down stairs, still half asleep. Apparently this isn't his fault, or so he proclaims. I understand mistakes happen, I don't refuse to pay for what I had ordered, but as a business when you make a mistake like this you eat the loss. What you don't do is harass your customer, late at night, long after the exchange is over, and expect good results. So I paid the guy what he thought I owed, and when he didn't give me my change I let him know I had no intention to tip. This might make me an asshole, but at this point I don't care. Il Porto, as much as I enjoy your pizza, your terrible customer service and annoying delivery drivers have changed my mind about your establishment. Based off principal, I will never dine here again. If your looking for good food, however, they have it. What angered me about the establishment? When I paid my bill, I requested that $3 of the change be in any combination of coins (as my metro card was empty and the nearest spot to fill it was a 10min walk away... and the bus I wanted was right on the corner by the restaurant). The frustrating moment was when my server had the audacity to tell me that between both sides of the restaurant, no one had change. Really? Your a restaurant with zero coinage and you expect me to believe that? Needless to say: I still gave have her a $5 tip on $23 (though it was going to be $8)... but yeah. Great pizza in a part of town where good pizza is easy to find. Their left entrance leads to their rustic-in-the-cool-way pizza parlour, where they sell singles and whole pies, to eaten on the premises or to go. And to the right is their dining room, which keeps some of the same ambiance in a slightly more sit-down kind of way. They serve a caprese salad, where they toast they tomato first, somewhat of a twist on a classic, but I'm pretty sure I'm clinically addicted to it. And their pizzas are top notch, from the sweet-yet-tangy sauce to the soft, melty cheese, and the variations on the toppings. Their signature pizza is the "Classic Grandma Pie", a square pizza (yes, it IS hip to be square) with a slightly thicker crust than normal NY pizza. Its a good variation, and newcomers to the place should try it, but I have to say that their "normal" round pizzas are my favourites. In the dining room, they also have a more than adequate bar, I recommend trying the signature cocktail, Navy Yard, before dinner. But not with dinner, unless you want to leave dinner feeling more than a little tipsy! read more

It was my birthday weekend so a group of friends and I decided to go for a whiskey tasting at the Brooklyn Navy Yard and wanted to go for dinner somewhere in the area afterwards. I looked on the map and found this restaurant. I emailed them to see if they offered a prefix menu option as i had 12 guests and knew it would be easier. The managers Sal and Anthony could not be more accommodating!!! They allowed me to create a menu that accommodated my vegan friend and 2 non dairy friends and 2 people who weren't going to drink and everyone else who wanted to drink! We then had great service by Amir, our server and there was a live jazz band who even sang me happy birthday which was very special. Oh and i cannot forget to mention that the found was AMAZING! We had the misto salad and antipasto for starters, pesto pasta with penne pasta, suprema di pollo, salmón allá griglia and for the vegan friend spaghetti bella Donna, all of which were cooked to perfection! Then for dessert we had the dessert pizza and to accommodate my non-dairy friends they did half of one pizza without ricotta cheese. I went once by myself, and once with a date. The atmosphere is spot on, and the service is pretty good too. The food is where they lost me. I had the Parpadelle ai Porcini the first time and the Millerighe alla Bolognese the second. I found both dishes to be decently executed on the pasta, but just bland where the saucing came about. All the ingredients were *there* they just weren't pulled together in a style I found to work. I thought the wine selection was ok - but a bit overpriced for glasses. We also had the Bianca pie, and the Cesare salad. The salad came in a parmesan cheese fried bowl. This was fabulous for presentation value, but overall it was just way too much cheese. Same with the parmesan they "shaved" over the salad - it was literally slices of cheese, not shavings. Again - the elements were all there for something amazing, it just didn't really pull it together into a dish. And the same with the Bianca pie - Ricotta and roasted garlic is amazing. And a few bites were great, but they quadrupled down on the ricotta to the point that it overloaded the crust. I'm not sure if they just didn't spread the garlic around enough, or the mass of cheese let it pool in one spot, but it'd be 3 bites of cheese, and one bite of almost all garlic. The same ingedients could have been used to create something amazing - that was some good quality cheese, and the garlic would not have been overpowering if distributed properly, but the execution lacked again. I might try again for this Grandma's slice I'm reading about. I also think this place has a good deal of potential. I definitely would not think it out of place if there weren't so many amazing options in this area as it is, and if you just want to run in for a regular slice or something light - go for it. read more

I work for a company in the Brooklyn Navy Yard- right across the street from Il Porto. So, naturally, Il Porto is our go-to place for lunch and any meetings or events we need catered. Aside from their food being delicious every single time, their staff, especially the delivery guys, are great. The owners have worked with me many many times getting me great deals on my large catering orders. We've been eating Il Porto for some time not, but no one in our company (of 50+ people) has yet to get tired of it. Nor has anyone ever gotten a bad meal! And if they ever mess up (which has happened maybe once or twice) they immediately resolve it. Sometimes when we need to get out of the office we'll go to the actual restaurant. It is such a cute place and when it's nice out, the outdoor seating is great. Overall, phenomenal food and service and I highly recommend them. read more

We happened to be moving in on a Sunday of a holiday weekend and lost track of time, so NOTHING was open for dinner, and our doorman suggested we contact Il Porto. We called in our order 5 minutes before 11 pm, their closing time, and they took it. 30 minutes later, our pizzas were delivered and they were absolutely delicious. Big pies in the wood-fired style. Great ingredients, simply prepared. Just can't go wrong. The delivery man had forgotten our salad and though I just told him to take it off the bill, he came back 45 minutes later (way past his shift) to deliver it. Amazing. read more

The food here is FANTASTIC! I live on the block and I love my neighborhood more than life itself so I always hope that when a new place opens, it does well. Well Il Porto has done great in my opinion. They serve a great brunch...also the best damn shrimp Caesar salad I have ever eaten! The appetizers are fabulous, pastas are well executed and the fresh mozzarella and tomato brick oven pizza is a staple of my diet. Delivery is also quick and the delivery guys are super nice. Il Porto, a lost little Italian restaurant in the dead zone that is the Brooklyn Navy Yard. In a pretty unassuming area of the neighborhood, Il Porto is churning out some pretty great food that this is pretty much the go to delivery spot for everyone at our office. I've had their panini's and pizzas and it is pretty tasty. The sandwiches aren't what I would actually call a panini but a plain sandwich on a quality bread. They're quite large and coupled with fries and a salad a pretty fulfilling meal. The pizzas are pretty fantastic as well. If you get it fresh and immediately, the it's nice and crispy yet chewy at the same time. The toppings are high quality and fresh and super tasty. I'm sure as the neighborhood develops further, this restaurant will get plenty of business and well deserved. read more
