First time we ever ordered from this place was amazing. Great pizza and even better garlic knots. We were so excited to finally find our pizza spot, that we are devastated to know it must've been a fluke. Second time we ordered, they sent us 5 barely baked knots instead of the advertised 12, and all of our food was cold. They argued about not refunding all of the knots, only partial, even though all 5 of 12 were inedible. Third time we ordered is a "shame on me" learned moment. They never added our apartment number on the delivery man's receipt so he drove to the apartment without ringing our bell. Wouldn't you think they'd call us before he left to verify the number? Nope! We schlepped over to Il Porto in the middle of a snowstorm, but no worries. The arduous walk there, during which I fell on my bum, actually added to the charm of this Italian eatery out in the middle of nowhere. When we arrived, we realized that there were actually two different rooms: a pizzeria-type room and a dining room. There were only three other couples out braving the storm, which left plenty of empty tables for us. The ambiance here is at once rustic and intimate. And even in the craziest of weathers, there was still live jazz. We started with drinks and a salad: red wine sangria and Spinaci salad (baby spinach, Bartlett pears, gorgonzola, crispy pancetta, and red wine vinaigrette). The salad was huge, extremely light, and fresh. The sangria was wine-forward (is that a thing you can say?) and chock full of alcoholic fruit. For our main course we ordered the grandma pie (thin crust, homemade fresh mozzarella, fresh tomato, basil, olive oil, grated cheese). I think this may be the best pizza I've had in New York so far, and it is DEFINITELY the best sauce. Worth falling on your bum many times over. The service was perfect. Came in here for dinner and everything was delicious! The ambiance and décor was very homey. The live band was definitely a plus! Also the service was beyond amazing! I came with a group of 6 and we had family style with the seafood paella which is my absolute favorite! Then we ordered our own entrees. Ordered a grandma pie for delivery one sunday. Food came on time and nothing was a mess. I just felt that it lacked a bit of flavor. I may be biased because I personally love flavors that kick you right in the mouth and I've been accused of using too much garlic before (there's no such thing in my opinion). Good but not so sure the peaches weren't from a can. Chianti was good. Bread before meal was warm and tasty - one crusty and one soft with tomato. Caesar salad served in Parmesan cheese bowl! A bit overdressed but tasty. Grilled octopus salad - salad good and nicely dressed but octopus was rubbery. Tortellini soup was hot and delicious. Chicken with sundried tomatoes, mushrooms in Marsala was very good. Came with string beans and potato croquette. We made our own dessert of vanilla gelato with espresso poured over - affogato. I had the pleasure of spending many lunches at this restaurant during the last month working out here, and think this restaurant alone will be worth returning to New York frequently. Their pizzas are true Italian masterpieces, and the lunch slice options make this place a wonderful balance of quick and convenient for lunch. The ingredient selection available is second to none, and the quality of the ingredients would be enviable at a farm. They also have what was by far the best version of my favorite combination I have ever had - the Prosciutto, Arugula, Mozzarella and Parmesan pizza. It's flavor profile has unbeatable balance for all of the senses. There is only one minor reason why I give this place 4 instead of 5 stars - the location, specifically as it relates to parking. It's nighmarish. It's nightmarish by Brooklyn / NYC standards. The root cause of the problem is that there are several warehouse-type places right there with "24 hour no parking" that they only sort-of use, but because of that, you can only get about 5 cars around the store; and due to the ammount of the business in the area you're not likely to get within a few blocks unless you bend the rules. I hate to derate the store for this, since it's not really their fault, but it's bad enough to detract from the overall experience unless you are close enough to walk. read more

To my absolutely disappointment when I tried to pay for my pizza I was told I will be changed additional $2 for the use of a credit card. WTF! I know this is illegal! I used to live very near and have since moved farther and farther away but I still make the trek to Il Porto - tho less than I used to and less than I like. I've taken my father here when he was in town and he always wants to come back when he visits. The night my husband proposed to me we came here for dinner after. It was Valentines Day and we had missed our reservation at a new restaurant cause the proposal took longer than he thought it would (they didn't hold the res- and that's fine cause this was so much better!) Mo is a wonderful manager! We always feel like we are coming home when we come here! The service is great. The busser/Backwaiter is really on his game. We never want for anything! This restaurant was absolutely terrible in terms of customer service. I will tell you just how disgusting and anti-Covid friendly this place is. 1. They messed up our delivery order not once but twice. We were given completely different pizza pies than what we ordered. So we called back and the delivery man showed up with a new set of pizza pies but one pie was still incorrect; 2. The person who answered the phone at the restaurant asked for the wrong pizza pies back. Yes - he ACTUALLY asked for the pies back. But here's the kicker, he had the delivery guy give those pies (that were opened) to a group of people that were in the same rooftop bar that we were at. Those ppl had no idea that was happening; 3. The restaurant staff was very disrespectful even after messing up the order the second time around; and 4. The food was basic and tasted like cement-oven, not brick-oven.
