We had a delightful afternoon lunch celebrating my birthday - lunches included beef ravioli, short ribs and halibut. Absolutely delicious Italian faire. We shared an antipasto Mare Kiaro was perfect for the three of us. The deserts were astonishing - including Tiramisu, panda cotta pistachio, and the lava cake that was hot and oozing molten chocolate. The meal was only enhanced by our server Mauro. Have eaten here five times now - food is always good and great service. They are doing a sneaking thing now which I don't like. They bring bread to the table, which you'd assume is free, and charge you 7.95 for it. They don't say anything they just place on your table. It's a trick of many low class restaurants. I finally went to Il Posto last night and it did not disappoint! Our server was super friendly and helpful. He didn't know it was a birthday celebration, but ended up bringing us the Nutella panna cotta on the house; it was delicious! He recommended the linguine ai frutti di mare, which was loaded with seafood. My husband had the diavola pizza and friend had the lasagna. Large portions, we all enjoyed our food. My friend is more of a cocktail guy and they currently have beer and wine only. They have a small patio that is dog friendly and lots of vegan options; gluten free options too. read more

We went there Saturday night. They told us while we were waiting for the table, they'd be open three weeks. From what I saw, it's a huge success! We had two pasta dishes and an appetizer, and ordered a pizza to go. They have an extensive menu and wine list. We had a pretty bad experience at Il Posto on sunday. Granted it was mother's day anf the place was packed , but this has gone from one of our go-to restaurants into never again. We had 11 people including 5 and 7 year old grandkids. We otdered them kids plain pasta with butter which didnt attive at the table until the adults were finished eating. We had two chicken parms- both were cold and by no means of the quality weve had there before. My wife had pasta with added mozzarella and eggplant and no oregano. It was loaded with oregano and no cream sauce so she sent it back and the second plate had no eggplant or mozzarella! They attempted to remedy this by placing about 1/4 cup of cold cheese on top of the pasta. Others of the dishes they got plain wrong! Their attitude about the evening was to attempt to have us believe that they corrected the midtskes, which of course they hadnt, then they gave us a hard time when we told them to take off the bill the items that never arrived. They acted like they were doing us a big favor. They were not at all gracious or apologetic and there was no attention given to the mothers at the table as theve do at Cesarina. read more

Brand new so growing pains in effect. Beautiful location. Attentive service. Ambitious menu. Loved the choose your own pasta and pizza and indredient options. Apperizers came out luke warm. All good. Pizza was really good, chewy crust and sauce was great. The pasta dishes were ok, a little mushy. Pesto was creamy and didnt have that fresh pesto earthiness. Service slipped a few times with dirty app plates and no parm offered for pasta for kids. They will get there for sure and will continue to support neighborhood restaurant. Its beautiful and vibrant inside. Restrooms could use a little mid dining servicing but give this place a whirl and support while they find their sea-legs. read more

They served us raw chicken just seared on the outside!! Do not go here, when we went back to the restaurant they refused to comp the meal or weren't even really apologetic. We sat at the bar on a Thursday night. Service was great. Had the Italian Spritzer (much like an Aperol spritz) which was great. Had the wedge salad and the chicken parm. There are quite a few well-reviewed Italian restaurants in the south park / golden hill area, but I feel like this is the only one that is actually good. Actual Italians run the restaurant and kitchen and the pizzas are excellent. I've only tried a couple of the pastas, such as the spaghetti pesto, and they were good too. read more

The atmosphere is cute, the food came quick and let me mention, the quality of food is to die forI ordered the Diavola pizza, too bad I couldn't get a photo I ate it way to fast. The tomatoe sauce tasted perfect, very unique and the right amount of salami and cheese. I finished with the penne pasta with arrabiata sauce and added in artichoke and WOW. We've come here 3 or 4 times since they opened and unfortunately the service has gone downhill a little. First time my partner and I visited, it was on a whim since we live down the street. The service was great - very attentive, food was amazing and price was reasonable. They even boxed up our leftovers for us at the table. The next time we came for a special occasion and had to wait almost 30 mins to order drinks, and we had a reservation. The last time we visited, we had to sit in the overflow room (again, we had reservations) and it was hot and stuffy. We ordered the caprese, which we had tried before and enjoyed. This time it was about half the size - 3 small slices of mozzarella and 4 slices of tomatoes. It cost just as much as our entre - $17. Maybe it's so expensive because they put a decorative flower on it? 4 different waiters also came to "check" on us about 6 times during our meal. It definitely felt like we were rushed out, despite the overflow room being practically empty. Overall, the food is decent, but the portion size and service are not consistent with the price. read more

We came to the restaurant on Sunday of a holiday weekend. We had three adults and two kids under six years old. We asked for suggestions from our waiter and went with the two options he suggested for the adults. For the kids. we got a cheese, pizza and a child pasta with carbonara sauce( both entrees were 20/ each). Service was fast and the kids entrées were delicious. The two adult entrées were not as good - 1 dish had saffron, an ingredient two people at the table did not like, but we ate it- the risotto special with tenderloin. If the waiter told us about the saffron in the risotto, we would not have ordered that entrée. The other entrée was very rich and overly heavy. The person that ate it felt sick later that evening- a beef ravioli special. At the end of the day, the waiter charged us as a large party and added the tip even though we were ignored for most of our dinner. If 3 adults and 2 kids are a large party where bad service is charged for we will definitely not be returning to this restaurant. There are a lot of good eateries around. read more

The pizza is a little below average. That might be OK in a neighborhood that didn't have a zillion pizza places already when they moved in. I thought I can't believe they're moving pizza in here when we have a pizza place every block and one of the best pizza places in the world nearby, it would be nice if there were something I would actually want to eat instead of the worst pizza in the neighborhood. This place needs to be in a neighborhood where they have very few options not in one that has more pizza perhaps than any other neighborhood in the city all better than this place. I guess because this is a family neighborhood they think all we want is pizza? They think even though we have the best pizza in the city in our neighborhood and several other others that are a little bit less, we still need another one that's a little bit worse than all the rest? really disappointing, ordinary overpriced not needed in this neighborhood. they are trying to stand out by being a little fancier than the others but it is an unpleasant loud environment and worked much better as the breakfast/chocolate/grocery place it used to be. Sadly it is three blocks from my house and I am starting to feel completely surrounded by Italian restaurants that are not as good as the main one you all know with the amazing pizza oven that is two blocks on the other side of me, or the one two blocks up the street from it, or the two three blocks on the other side of it. I am omitting several even from this list. Saturating a neighborhood with Italian restaurants all of which have very similar menus starts to make it a cliche and is one of the reasons San Diego does not get its due as a great food city. I looked it up and the restaurant is a transplant from suburban North county, which does not surprise me at all. I guess South Park is becoming like a suburb now, with boring choices offered by non-urban folks coming in to our nice neighborhood to capitalize. It is certainly boring for someone who lives in the neighborhood unless they are a rut eater who wants to eat the same thing constantly and have few other choices. read more
