I really wanted to like this place and give it a good review. Unfortunately the experience led me to write a poor review. I do think the cafe did an excellent job pulling off the quaint European cafe vibe aesthetically. However, service was poor, the quality of the food was mediocre for the price. I can overlook that, but what I could not overlook was my daughter's plate. She wanted French toast. They were hard as a rock and you could not even cut through it with a fork and a knife! I tried to cut through the French toast and a piece broke off the plate and bounced onto the floor. I took a bite of it, I can tell that it tasted stale like it had been laying around for quite a while. It had decent flavors, had it been fresh, it would have tasted great. But unfortunately that was not the case. The only decent items from our order were the cappuccino and the lentil soup. The tuna melt was your standard tuna melt and was bland. The food is delicious, the coffee reminds me of coffee shops in Europe and the atmosphere is so quaint and lovely. While sometimes the kitchen gets backed up, leading to slower service, everything is well worth the wait. I mean, what business doesn't have waits from time to time? For those people saying it's overpriced.. first and foremost, if you want to PURCHASE any item, it might be smart to ask the price of the item you are purchasing prior to committing, as you would with any other purchase you might make. Second, this is a small business with custom desserts. I have EASILY spent $50+ on a dozen custom cookies. Il Sogno gives a variety of desserts to try, all of which are homemade and delectable. The breakfast panini is a personal favorite of our family for breakfast and the Greek salad is also so delicious and refreshing on a hot day; all of which are extremely reasonably priced with the prices right there on the menu. The iced and hot lattes are an awesome compliment to your meal! This cafe is a GEM! Breakfast was delicious, beautifully presented and the fruit was at its perfect maturity. They make their own bread and my breakfast was served with their ciabatta, lightly grilled! My friends had Abocado toast w/salmon & poached eggs & the other a tuna panini and a vegetable soup that was amazing. Brought home a loaf of the bread! Adorable European cafe run by a European. If you have been to Europe you will know what to expect. We recently went to Italy and it is very reminiscent of the small family cafes there. Mira serves custom coffee drinks that are always beautiful and delicious. Her food is consistent, generous portions, and so good! She even has a gluten free bread option. Her pastry display is beautiful. She typically has at least five desserts that do not contain gluten which I very much appreciate. She also takes custom orders. We did a large order of macarons for my son's birthday party this year. I am so grateful for such a lovely cafe on El Paseo. read more

$8 for an iced cappuccino that was essentially a latte? No thanks. After confirming that hey offer iced cappuccinos, to which she confidently answered "yes" to, I had to ask for foam on it and then she dumped a ton of milk into it, making it even more of a latte. Excellent Pear Tart, Aloof Service, Expensive. We were walking El Paseo in Palm Desert in the mid-afternoon and felt like a pick-me-up drink and indulgence when we came across Il Sogno. For service and price, I would give it a '3', but the food and ambiance, a '5'. Food: The pear and almond tart with cream was excellent. The iced cappuccino attracted attention from passers-by as it was so beautifully presented in a curvy glass. Service: I thought the woman serving was a little aloof. They only had 2 choices of herbal teas available. Value: Expensive! We ordered a pear and almond tart, herbal tea and cappuccino and it came to over $25. Ouch. I've never experienced such worst hospitality in my life. the owner refused our service because we are going to have a group of 4 discuss our book while trying to have breakfast and coffee. she said, "We can't/allow chit chat!" even though everyone else was talking amongst themselves. I love this place. It's the first stop we make when we head to the desert. Gorgeous pastries, delicious coffee drinks, and always an interesting assortment of customers. I was there this past Thursday and it was starting to feel like a real summer day, so I opted for a Greek salad and an ice coffee. They totally hit the spot!!! I got food poisoning in this cafe. Stay away from this restaurant!!! I thought that this is a famous street and the quality is guaranteed, plus the price tag there is sky-high, but after such a situation I don't even want to eat anything on this street. It's a pity that I didn't read the reviews, it's my mistake. The food is old, all the pastries and cakes are out in the open. The cookies are hard and rancid and feel like they've been sitting there for a year. I just didn't expect such a thing to still exist, but it turned out that the owner didn't care. ll Sogno is a very quaint bakery on El Paseo. You are offered every kind of delicious bake goods you can imagine. You can also have a number of healthy salads. The Chicken salad is the best! I love being either inside or outside of the café as it reminds me of small cafés in Europe. Inside there are a number of glass pieces to buy that are painted beautifully! Wonderful, European style cafe, coffee house and bakery. Excellent lattes and cappuccinos and desserts - sit inside or outside. Amazing pastries that are fresh, gourmet, yet homemade. The Greek salad and the other food items are tasty as well. The boysenberry crumble like small tart, with a side of homemade whip cream on the side and an ice coffee makes the afternoon so much more wonderful. Open for breakfast as well. We just stopped by this place to pick up 4 small pastries to get for our coffee later today . After leaving the place I looked at the receipt and it was $49 . I thought they made a mistake so called the owner back to confirm that was correct . She was rude over the phone saying they are busy and what ever the price says on the receipt was correct. I wish I had checked the reviews before dripping $50 for 4 old stale pastries. Definitely not coming back as a full time resident of the desert! Very OVERPRICED! read more

The prices here are insane for what you get, and based on the reviews from over a decade ago, the owner has been gouging customers for a long time. Explains why she's still around, I guess. Ordered a tart, a cookie and two Americanos: $27. I was wondering if that price included a ribeye steak. The stale cookie alone was $5, and the pricing seems arbitrary, depending on her mood or if she made enough cash for the day. On another note, in these Covid times, she does wear a mask. Only problem is that it hangs down on her left ear. As others have said, the place is cute, lots of pastries, but so what when you're getting hosed. What a delightful little place right on El Paseo! After visiting nearby art galleries, my wife and I stopped in at the Il Sogno for lunch. Their half sandwich and soup combination fit the bill perfectly. Both of us had the cold cucumber soup that was chilled, creamy and out of this world delicious. I had the grilled cheese sandwich which was crisp on the outside, gooey on the inside with enough, but not too much, cheese. My wife had the tuna salad sandwich which was also perfectly assembled and tasty. The service was friendly, solicitous and yet totally unobtrusive! Remember that documentary about the man who dated a dozen women and jilted them out of their life savings? This is the restaurant/bistro equivalent to that. In fact, I bet they're related to that guy. Why?...any place that does not advertise a price for a pastry and coffee or anything for that matter only to 'surprise' you with an astronomical bill at the end is not worth visiting. This is not Michelin rated nor is this Beverly Hills. Even Joans on 3rd in L.A. doesn't have such absurd prices. The quality does not match the price point and we have heard that prices can 'vary', as in whomever the gypsies are that run the place that day, can charge you ten dollars for your sweet roll and the guy behind you pays 6 bucks for the same thing. Someone from the BBB needs to visit this place and smack them upside the head with a do-over. Not worth the "Surprise Pricing" not worth the visit. Shame because it's a lovely spot. Just ate lunch here with my husband and it's as delicious as I remembered it. I got the same goat cheese sandwich but I added turkey to it. My husband got a turkey sandwich and lentil soup. We both loved our food. Everything tasted very fresh and flavorful. For dessert (the best part of any meal) we got the flourless chocolate cake and it was mouthwatering! You get warm, gooey chocolate with each amazing bite!! The owner was very nice and welcoming and helped to make our experience great. read more

This place is not welcoming at all. Walked in with some friends and was racially profiled immediately and harassed about what we had in our bags, then asked to leave. We were told multiple times we weren't allowed to sit, and weren't welcome. Never felt more attacked for no reason other than my appearance. I've held back my review for over year because there are some special qualities about this place, but I'm over. Yes the coffee is fantastic. But EVERYTHING is overpriced and a lot of the pastries are hit and miss (often stale). On a personal note, I don't appreciate paying obscene amounts of money on coffee and likely stale pastries only to be treated unkindly by the owner. Of the dozen times I've been there spending money, her attitude is insufferable. And the cherry on top is she wants cash and can't make proper change so she adds on a tip to her already overpriced items. I'm done! This is a local bakery with a beautiful selection of pastries and chocolates...so pricing is a bit more on the uppity side. All of the pastries from the Lemon Tart, chocolate dessert, to Apple pie were exceptional. No complaints on taste, I just concur with many other reviews that would appreciate a straightforward pricing list as to avoid the jaw dropping Bill at the end. This place is a local breakfast/brunch spot located on El Paseo. There is plenty of street and public structure parking lots. Great selection of pastries! Just pricing is a bit high.
